LaudateII:Check the guy you initially quoted who replied me. I get your point. I understand things aren't getting better I also understand and agree the useless Lagos state govt should have ensured the alternative route was good enough before implementing the new tariff regime. However, As much as I understand your point including some others on this thread, I need you to also understand my own point of view as well. Do you really know " there was no time it was easy in Nigeria ". Infact, No December people wouldn't say na wa oo this December e get as e be. worse than last year's. No money. Economy is bad. See how everywhere dry. It was so during Obasanjo, GEJ and now Buhari. We'd always lament of not being financially buoyant but in reality many people still do great things, buy cars, build houses regardless of the standard. Let me give you something to ponder on. What's the most prominent complaints of Nigerians abroad? Two things. 1)E nor easy. 2)Tax. Dem complain of e nor easy from Naija carry am enter another place even when they can't honestly say it is not getting better. They lament about tax all because WE ARE NOT USED TO IT. We need to start embracing some cultures Let me tell you this at this junction, if the country is going to be better than this, I really don't see how we won't pay dearly for it. If tomorrow we decide to elect those our desired Technocrats who are well exposed and experienced. One of the very few available routes they'd use for infrastructural development, job creation, social welfare is wielding a heavy hammer of Taxation (this might not necessarily come after the proposed development but prior, to generate the needed funds) which I don't see how it'd ever be easy to do giving the fact that most people would call them Capitalists and resent it. |

LaudateII:You should have replied maturely like this earlier before tagging yourself a derogatory name. I like sensible discourse. That's where the problem lies. The government itself hasn't made themselves to be trusted enough though. Else, if truly they incurred a huge debt that needs to be repaid or recovered the increment is justifiable. My point is, you know even on some African countries where they enjoy good amenities, the citizens pay heavily for it. Same thing in developed countries. The sad part is the decadence in our morals and values couldn't make anyone to be trusted any longer. Hence one can't be too sure if truly the money won't be diverted. Meanwhile, I need you to understand that there's no time in Nigeria that anything would be increased by the govt. that many of us wouldn't frown at it. Meanwhile on a lighter note, when we get to Bar and we meet 50 to 100 naira increment on our favorite brand, we don't leave immediately nor cuss out the bar attendants . We dip our hands in our pockets and still buy as many bottles as we can enjoy. Yet we we'd always make ourselves and everyone believe we don't have money. I understand everyone's point as to the inconvenience. But let me ask you this. If the current amount just increased to had always been the initial start-off amount since the inception of the toll, do you think it'd reduce number of people passing there? My point is, as sad as it is, we'd always get used to it. Bro this kind of thing is expected in a place like Lagos. Lagos is like Las Vegas of Nigeria (expect many expensive shitts regardless) but for the corrupt government we have at the helms of affairs who wouldn't deliver as promised. |

LaudateII: Imagine! What an excuse. A very funny one. They should borrow money to pay the toll too since they could borrow to live a good life. As far as being responsible in Nigeria is concerned , NO ONE IS EVER FINANCIALLY Buoyant. They'd be heavily taxed on all those their luxuries in some climes. Who send dem to borrow money buy am. That's the mindset killing us in Nigeria. We want almost free everything. Government should be responsible for everything. Let me make my point clear again. I'm not here to throw banter with you. I agree our elected Leaders are very useless and sometimes might put up policies solely to enrich themselves and their cronies. Meanwhile, if the increment in toll is to avoid indebtedness or raise more revenue for the development I am totally in support of it provided it'd be used for its intended purposes. Meanwhile, how would know that for sure if we don't give them the benefit of doubt. For things to work, we have to tighten up our trousers and be ready to pay the price. Is it going to be easy, definitely not. However, we all going to enjoy it at the long run. |

YoshiMaster: Read my post well. That's why I said it's rather unfortunate if a low income earner is caught in the web. Bro, please let's be sincere with ourselves. For things to really work the way it's supposed to be, prices must be paid. Sacrifices must be made. We complain too much in Nigeria. I am in a place where I pay toll as well meanwhile there's no any alternatives to that. I just have to pay it. That's the way they generate revenue to put things in places for us to enjoy. Unfortunately, same thing can't be said about Nigeria as the fund generated might become diverted along the line. I fully support toll and increment if only its intended for the comfort and benefit of the populace. That's how things work in other places. They increased the toll of a particular place I used to visit just of recent. No one protested and you pay regardless of your financial class. The thing is, the affluent ones on the island are the main cause of the traffic gridlock on that alternative route. They also avoided the toll thereby increasing the number of vehicles plying the alternative route and increasing the burden. Meanwhile, these same people travel out of the country and pay for EVERYTHING WITH TAX, even smile while doing it. They pay toll on roads and never frown. They get back to Nigeria and complain about everything when they do nothing to contribute to her growth. I'm sort of happy that these rich people are being invariably taxed heavily in lagos via several avenues. Unfortunately, when you prune a tree branch, some other things suffer with it. I understand your plight. It is well. Meanwhile let me tease you a bit. When you tell people you stay on the Island and they hail you say Chairman you be big man oo. When some other people would even respect you and class you among the elites of Lagos, do you tell them No oo I nor be rich man oo. Don't you smile and say Yes Na we be that. Lol. Why is it now that it concerns increasing tolll that you're saying nor be everyone wey dey island be rich people. I know how my guyz back then dey always feel when guyz hail dem as Island boiz (esp. in the presence of dem mainland Ashanas) , despite say na one suburb dem kaban dey oo. But the kind rep the thing dey give dem nor be here. Bro you're a Rich Man, pay and pay other motorists own join 4 Likes |

What amazes me is the calibre of cars using the alternative route. If you could afford luxury vehicles, how much is the toll you can't pay, but ona go dey club tonight buy the bar completely and pay Oloshos more than their charges. But naijas can too whine sha. If to say alternative route nor dey na that one dem for dey use criticize the govt. Now wey dem get two options dem still dey lament. There's a reason the toll is on that particular axis and not on the mainland. However, if you now happen to be caught in the web while you don't belong to the class of people known to stay and work around that place, I can only be sorry for you. It's rather unfortunate. Meanwhile, for things to get better in naija we should be ready to pay for it. |

Politics / Part Of Many Reasons To Be Proud Of Nigeria by GetUmad: 5:06pm On Jan 25, 2018 |
Regardless of whatever is happening in the country and how our leaders keep plunging this country into more doldrums, we still have in ABUNDANCE great products coming out of Nigeria being appreciated and well utilized in countries like the United States of America and other developed world. Many Patriotic Nigerians out there making us proud and flying the Nigerian color in Sport, entertainment, medical, academic and political spheres outside the shores of the country. Just came across the trailer of this upcoming movie, GRINGO starring award winning Actor David Oyelowo. Just like Adewale Agbaje and some other movies I had watched in the past featuring Hollywood actors of Nigerian descent, He was proud to speak his mother's LANGUAGE (I had actually seen so many Hollywood movies even not so popular ones where out languages were spoken by our great Brothers). See the trailer for the Gringo below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-bZLM3I-C0 Also, I was opportuned to come across a truck one day offloading some bagged contents. I could not beleive my eyes seeing written on it MADE IN NIGERIA. I asked the Old man delivering the contents what it was and he said it's a material used in plastic production. I thought within me so apart from our crude oil, there are other mineral resources that are actually valuable to some sectors of the US economy. I was so glad to see that a manufacturing company in the State actually makes use of a mineral resources coming straight from our Naija. That's just one company I was opportuned to come across , how many more of those rely on it and who knows how many other of resources are actually this valuable and are generating great revenue for the country. Nigeria is truly blessed. So many talents and resources. Even in our diversity. I pray soon God would deliver the country. May all the enemies of the state be destroyed the same way they destroyed the economy. Does anyone know about the product as attached below ? I mean maybe anyone who knows about its production . Let's discuss about something positive coming from Nigeria and have a relief from Sad news every seconds.

shagaman: Good points. You didn't remind them that their conversion is BEFORE TAX . Many people think those money they are fast at converting is what you earn directly like its done in naija. After tax the person might end up earning Just around $1600. Tax varies on number of dependants. About the gas, its also the function of the distance between your place of residence to where you're working in addition to your vehicle fuel consumption rate. I've seen people drive more than 20 miles daily to work just to earn 11 dollars before tax. I had someone who spends well above that your figure on gas. Car insurance not included on your list. A single room apartment is around 800 usd in some places. Many of us also think the kind of job they talk about in US is like that of naija where you'd claim you go to work but in reality only spend average of 3 hours daily dedicated to that actual work while remaining hours spent on frivolities. The kind of work that'd earn you that quoted figures above I assume are the "under the table" jobs and you work from the time you resume till you clock out. Only on break you have time to rest. Not like naija that you'd chat, do aproko in between, even take a stroll. Infact some people are reading this from their workplace in Nigeria right now. No chance or opportunity for that. It's a hard labor and when you even see people doing overtime they use all their might and strength to sustain just not to get into debt of recurrent bills and to have a paltry sum to save for their future. That said, of course if you're focused and determined, regardless, there's hope for you and you'd do better especially if you're not lazy. The problem with many people that complain is they thought it was going to be easy for them especially cos of the nature of Nigerian jobs they left back home (where all we do is just go to the office doing practically nothing and earn salary at the end of the month. Some would even call in sick, yet they receive their full pay at the end) . When they get to those western countries and see where the real non-stop work is, they cower and start lamenting. It gets worse when they feel tired and frustrated but can't call in sick or resume late cos the jobs are paid mostly on per-hour basis and you get paid only for the duration you worked. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Despite the fact that my display message on whatsapp is a stern warning ⚠ against sending me useless messages that I had read over and over, you still see many doing that. The most annoying thing is, majority of them are actually not of any significant use to you on that platform as they don't chat you up or do any meaningful thing with it other than broadcast msg. If you do that twice, I block your ass off. Majority of the people insulting the OP are the culprits. |
