Chika21:

I didn't want to quote the whole thread for easy readability for other users. I've a few questions, hopefully you can answer them at your convenience:

1.) Is it that it is impossible to get entry level IT jobs in Finland?

2.) How easy is it to land the remote jobs. I know being in Europe is an advantage but I want to know if your country of origin can affect it.

3.) How high is the racism on a scale of 1 - 10, so that some of us can know what to expect?

4.) Does learning the language improve your chances of landing a job?

Thank you for your insights as I anticipate your response.

1 ) Impossibility is nothing, I am not fit to say something is impossible. The reality is that, it is difficult to get an entry level job in IT, you must really know what you are offering the company. I think what can make an entry level job easy is through recommendations as most jobs are still not posted online.

2 ) Your country of origin doesn't affect your IT job much, but the case is a bit different in Finland (Institutional racism). The reason is that, in a country like Estonia, I know more than 5 companies that hire black African people working in the office. Ofcos, you can get a remote IT job from America companies and co, I know someone like that.. Don't get me wrong, we still have African guys in Finland working in IT, but entry level will be difficult.. I don't doubt the power of luck here, but relying solely on luck is a gamble.

3 ) I can personally put Finland on a scale of 3, but that 3 is basically focused on the job sector for foreigners from the 3rd world nations. Average finn people will open the door for you, will firstly greet you, can offer you a help when you are stuck in the snow and so on. In fact, you will get Finnish passport once you merit the requirements, but there is much limitations to the job you can do as a foreigner.

4 ) Yes, learning and knowing the language can increase your chances of getting a better job in the skill you are proficient in, because we know many people here that speak the language very well but still doing the cleaning job.

Hope this helps.

The Reality of Living In Finland.

I will try to write based some common questions people are asking here.

Taxes

Someone said you pay 40% taxes in Finland. €400 from a €2000 salary. Well, in Finland, everyone doesn't pay the same tax. You pay tax based on what you declare at the tax office. When you get a job as a new comer, your employer will ask you for what is called "tax card" which you will get from the tax offer (Vero skatt). Now, before you get this card, you will be asked at the tax office to declare or estimate how much you think you are likely to earn in a year. Your tax percentage will now be set based on your estimated annual income. For example, I know someone who is paying 17% tax on €30,000 annual income.

Now, if at the end of the year you happen not to earn up to that €30,000, government will refund you back some money simply because it means you have been deducted an excess tax of 17% which is meant for that €30k and whereas you did not earn up to that. Otherwise, if you warn more than this amount that you declare, then you will be the one that will pay money back to the government. So, it is advisable to declare more money so that you won't be the one paying back some money or big tax % henceforth for the following year. Let's say, you will be earning €1500 every month, that is (€1500× 12 = €18k per year). Don't declare €18k to the tax office, it is safe to declare €25k per year.

Job in Finland

There is no doubt about institutionally racism as it is almost impossible to have an office job in Finland. The readily available job that one can do in Finland is mainly Cleaning 🧹 job. That's just the reality. In fact, more than 50% of foreigners from third countries will probably do cleaning job or have done it before - (Statistically I may not be correct). There are other jobs like delivery job (not easily accessible again), Caregiver (mostly given to Nurses), Taxi (Need a taxi licence) and IT (You must be really good at it, not really entry level o) and Dishwashing. From 2021, Finland has been chewing more than what they can consume, hence, the reason for tough time finding even cleaning job now. Holding a PhD or Finnish passport as a foreigner doesn't stop you from doing meanial job. My advice for anyone is to learn any IT skills for better remote job opportunity even while living in Finland. Europe generally is all about minimalistic lifestyle, but better welfare.

Tips: If your school fees is between 8 - €10k per year and you have no scholarship but only relying to work and pay tuition, you will likely get stressed and suffer. In fact, you may not finish that studies.

Weather

If you passionately hate cold, you will eventually hate Finland. Almost six months of winter ❄️, so get prepared for cold dark winter. Throughout last week, it was all average of -25°C. Just getting better now at -12°C.

NOTE: This post is only to save you from shock when you get to Finland. You can only tag this as a discouraging post only if you are a hater of the truth. Besides, Finland still remain one of the best countries in the world.

Thank you for your explanations. Actually i do not want to relocate now to the country, i wanted to see if is possible to get PR using number of years i work remotely then i can easly visit the country anytime i want without huddles but with information i got here, it does not work like that i have to reside there with work permit then after some years i might be given PR.

Great! As many have said, yes, you have to live in the country in order to receive PR. Which field of IT are you in?

I'm currently in Nigeria working for a foreign company remotely, my offer came in as full time employment. I earn 2k USD monthly. Can I apply for PR in the country I'm working remotely. ? Or i need to relocate to the counrty before i will be granted a PR
Hi there,

I don't know the exact country where you got your remote job from, so I would give a general answer.

You can actually get a residence permit of the country, I think you have to inform your employer about it if they accept to sponsor you to come over, however, they would have to re-evaluate the terms and condition of your job. In this case, your job has to be for onsite rather than remote, with this, you stand a better chance of getting work visa/permit.

You cannot get PR (Permanent Residence) just like that, it has many requirements you need to fulfill before you can be given that, unless if you win a DV lottery to the US, Express Entry to Canada, or the immigration program to Australia/New Zealand... With all these, you can easily become a Permanent Resident. Otherwise, many countries require you to live for 5years legally in their country before you can apply for PR... But I'm guessing you wanted to say RP (Residence Permit).

My advice, it's better to check very well if $2k will be sufficient for you when you move to such country. You know $2k is actually a good salary for someone living in Naija, so try to make your calculation before any move.

All the best.

Please suggest that they spend a day or 2 thoroughly reading page 1.

Someone also suggested searching NL....try searching the keywords " nursing rn two degrees". Example here: https://www.nairaland.com/4212543/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled/518#66379046

Wife being younger is great but having only 1 year work experience is a disadvantage. Husband's BSc is it also in Vet? If so, it is a professional degree (equivalent to MSc) and can be accessed by any of the ECA bodies. The specific ECA for doctors does not include Vets. There is no value to waiting till MSc is finished if BSc is in Vet Medicine. Read here : https://www.nairaland.com/6081746/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled/360#97864334

Each of them could create a profile once they have ECA and IELTS to maximise the chance of a provincial nomination.

Either of them could also begin learning French for bonus points.
Really appreciate this ... Thanks a lot. I will direct them to read this page.

So for the wife (I hope the nurses on this thread will help out here), since she has a Bsc, she can try evaluating her Bsc and the certifications perhaps Wes could evaluate it as two or more. But I understand there is an evaluation body preferred by nurses who didn’t do the Bsc Nursing so their degree can be split into two.

For the husband- Evaluating with Wes means his degree would be evaluated as a Bachelors degree only but MCC would evaluate his degree as a professional degree which is equivalent to a masters degree in the pool. I believe Vet. Doctor is a medical degree irrespective of their kind of patients so my advice is based on that. However you may need to do your research to find out if MCC evaluates a DVM otherwise, a Wes evaluation is okay.

One year experience is too small, what about her NYSC? Did she work as a nurse? If yes, she can add that as well.

I advise you play with the CRS calculator to see what the scores will be with the wife being the PA, the spouse being a SA, IELTS for wife maxed out, IELTS for spouse a minimum of 6 or 7 in each modules, two or more certificates for the wife and a Bsc for the spouse to see what you get, then do it again with a masters evaluation and then compare the scores to make an informed decision.

Thanks so much. Her NYSC would probably make it 2years work experience. It is clear, will do more research to proceed with the evaluation.

Allegory:

1. Yes that’s the desirable score for IELTS
2. I don’t know what body évaluâtes nursing degrees favorably but you can use the NL search button to find out.
3. Start the evaluation first because it might take time to get your transcripts, you can start practicing for ielts now and write it whenever your evaluation is almost ready. So you get both results around the same time.
4. Yeah husband should write ielts to further increase your points, his ielts is optional though.

Thanks a lot

Yes, those are the exact scores to max out. She should get her Bsc Nursing evaluation done with Wes, not so knowledgeable about the nursing certificates but did she do the school of nursing thing before degree or she went straight to Bsc Nursing? If she did that, she can get that evaluated to as well to claim two or more certificates (this would boost her scores in the pool).
2. Husband needs to get his degree evaluated (There is a special evaluation body for Doctors) and write IELTS to boost their scores.
3. You can do both concurrently, one doesn’t stop the other. Write your IELTS while also getting your degrees evaluated and please be fast about it.
Thanks a lot. The wife just studied Bsc. Nursing straight.

Your advice is appreciated.

@Prettiepearlz
Edited'

I just got to know that the wife also had certifications in Midwifery and Public Health Nursing.

Now, when evaluating with WES, are we to submit all these certificates along with the main Bsc Nursing certificate?

And for the Hubby, are we to evaluate just his DVM (Bsc) certificate or we should just wait till he finishes the Masters and evaluate the Masters certificate? I don't know if this gonna make any difference in the score point.

I made a research and found that WES also do the evaluation for Vet. Doctor certificate. But you said there's a special body doing the evaluation for Doctors. Now I don't know if my findings are correct or not.

I would appreciate your further clarifications. Kiitos!

The wife should be the primary applicant because she is younger and has an occupation that is in demand in Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. She should try to max out as one of the conditions for getting a NOI with Nova Scotia is a CLB 9 based on the NOI sent out recently. The PR pathway for Doctors and Nurses to Australia is not that straightforward from all I have read (I maybe wrong).

Hello, thanks so much for your response.

When you said "Max out", did you mean she MUST have a score like this in IELTS; Reading =8.0, Writing =7.5, Listening = 8.5, Speaking= 7.5 ?

We've never started any processing at all. Do we write IELTS first or certificate evaluation? Don't know if WES is gonna handle the Nursing certificate evaluation.

Lastly, since the husband will not be a primary applicant, will he writes IELTS too?

Sorry for much questions, I just need to get this straight so we can start as soon as possible.

Hello guys,

Please, I'm making this enquiry for a relative ..

HUSBAND
Qualifications: Bsc, MSc ( Will soon be completed) in Veterinary Medicine.
Work experience: 3 years
Age: 35yo

WIFE
Qualifications: Bsc. Nursing
Work experience: 1year
Age: 27yo

CHILD: 1 year old

Please, what is the best route for them to migrate to Canada? Can they get job directly from Nigeria? I'm a bit confused on the best place or route for them. The hubby like Australia, but I don't know if it's a better place for their profiles. Liking a place doesn't guarantee better opportunities for your future., So, no much cincern about that.

I would really appreciate any sincere advice here.

The cost of living in California is scary and that’s why many prospective students avoid the state even though they’ve best universities in the states! Try and look at other states like texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Illinois etc this states are affordable, cheap and destinations for many international students as they offer Graduate Assistantship positions to students and there is high diversity of International students so as to acclimatize on time.
Best of luck !

Thanks for this sir... Pls do you have any information about surviving in Turkey as a master's student? cry any posibility of migrating to Europe from turkey?
@basalt
Hey there, I was in Istanbul a month ago. Believe me, Istanbul is too rough. There is no much to do over there except you travel there for pleasure or business because they are highly industrious. I met a guy, who is a student, he told me that there is no work for student or anyone searching for greener pastures. In his word, he made me know that you can only do Yahoo or work in the factory to earn 350€ per month. Turkey has a good road chanels though, I drove from Istanbul to Ankara, and it was very fantastic.

Something that got me shocked in Turkey was their stray dogs. Dog and Cat everywhere!!! As a Muslim country, I never expected to seeing stray dogs roaming in the street. Almost everywhere, you also find hotels and boutiques because it's a business and tourist place. I experienced power cut off 3 times around the centre of Istanbul.

Generally, it cannot be compared to Nigeria X5. Again, all what I have said may not be problem or big deal if you are going from Nigeria. But if you have lived in the western world before, you may find them faulty.

I hope this helps in you in your decision. Take care.

Hello my people, I’m a newbie. I have read a lot on this thread, but still not really clear with something, maybe because I have not explored those websites.

My question is:

If I found a nice domain on “expired domain dot net” and purchase it, please does it mean it has been automatically registered and suitable for listing on Afternic or Dan?

OR, I need to take the purchased domains to a registrar ( Like dotster, Godaddy, Namesilo and co) to register them before listing for sale?

I would appreciate this if anyone could reply me. Thanks
