enque: Voucher All other interested mamas
I just thought to add this - U can spice up your baby's potato/plantain/yam puree/mash with boiled green peas, boiled carrot or even boiled liver.
For liver - I cut into little cubes and pre-boil separately. Add to the already cooked potatoes/plantain/yam and mash/blend.
I also boil and mash my carrot and peas seperately and then mix with whatever puree she is having. How often does your baby eat, lemme know of mine is still normal. Secondly please can you take a picture of the bag and plates you use to pack food for crèche or when u leave her for the nanny and do the plates keep them warm of do the crèche people have to warm them esp the purees and mashes. And do you have a separate bag for where they would put the used plates/bottles for you. So how many bags in total do you end up taking to the crèche I want to start getting mentally prepared Id really appreciate pictures pls when u get the time Cc: Hunniesuzie, any other mama with a crèche going baby. |

eksbabe: Hello mamas, please i have come again oo. Sometime ago i mentioned that my son spits out alot and some mamas here told me to burp him between feeds and hold him upright afterwards for some mins before putting him down. Well i have tried it but he still keeps spitting out. Thing is he can go a week without spitting out so much and the next week he is back at it. He doesnt eat much at a time, could spend about 5/10 minutes and he is okay, so i dont think he is being overfed. He is gaining weight, weighed 3.4kg and 6kg at 10 weeks. The spit out often comes with a burp and sometimes i just see it trickle down from his mouth. It gets much sometimes that it can get to the floor while he is on my shoulder. It is not forceful and he doesnt cry afterwards. I have spoken to my doctor about it but she thinks it is normal and he will stop wih time. I have even tried formula to rule out my breastmilk being the issue but he still spat out some of it Please mamas is this normal? I have to change bibs like 3 times a day which is not a problem when i am at home but it can be a lil embarassing when we go out. What can i do again please? He would outgrow it. My baby's own was out of this world. Her reflux game was on fleek from birth. The paed refused to discharge us the day she was born cuz she was spitting up after every meal and it continued this way until around week 20. Sometimes when she spits up, you have to bring mop cuz it would be all over the floor like someone threw up. The burbing and everything didn't help much. For the past two weeks it just seems to have stopped, haven't seen her spit up or maybe it's because her diet has changed to food that's a bit thicker. Either way she's stopped. As long as it's not bothering her, Take bigger, thicker face towels when going out and spread it on your shoulder to avoid getting baptised. It will pass. |

curvilicious: @ Anc today i only added 1kg to my last Anc weight which was 4weeks back (if i mention my weight una go run). So, the nurse say na pple like u dey born fast. I said why? She said no excessive weight gain. When met ob/gyn, he said 1kg increase is not bad in as much my child is fine. After palpitating nd gbogboe he said madam: you & ur son are very well. Then i began my questions 1. How much is birth with epidural? He said 100k 2. What abt CS? He said 250k 3. What if im HIV+? He said ARV abi na HRRT i cant remember. 4. What if i refuse the meds? He said: madam, you wont for the sake of your child. 5.I said cant an hiv+ person birth a -child? He said: she can but, the chances are slim due to exposure in birth canal I dey fear to test since one day when i go fix weavon( i dont know who sent me o) when the stylist mistakenly chook my head with needle( i used to goan test like kilode until dat incident i come start dey fear). Mamas, plz encourage ur sister in the Lord to goan take her test He now said why all these questions? i said to him I'm open minded nd like to look at worse case scenario
Finally he said if you have all those ur many many questions dont hesitate to come next week nd ask me. If not see you in 4weeks Fear fear go and update your diary. The chances of you getting HIV from the needle prick is very very slim, except your village people are really after you . One hairdresser once shooked me like that as if she was trying to drive the needle into my skull and I was already scheduled for a compulsory HIV test that month, turned out negative. I heard the virus can only last an average of 30 seconds in open air, so unless she is deliberately trying to infect you with HIV, the chances if catching it through your hair dressers needle is really slim. Either way go get tested and get it over with |

poshestmina: Helllllllllllllo mamas, long time no saw!
Divine healing for all the sick Lo s ijn.
Please my daughter started bringing out this milky pulse looking thing from her eyes , should I be worried ?
Secondly, can I introduce her to any food now, we are 4 months and 4 days today . Don't know about the pus-like thing, I see it every once in a while in my baby's eye but it doesn't bother me cuz I assume it's just the eye cleaning out itself. if it doesn't happen very often you should just ignore it. If it looks bad tho I've read here how dropping breastmilk in the eye helps clear it plus you can see a doctor. As for food, you can breastfeed for one more month but if you still want to start now, I started with Heinz cereal for 4+ months, my baby loved it but it made her poo green so we stopped but some other mamas here have used it with no issues. Just make sure any brand you buy is for 4 months plus. You can also try pap mixed with formula, tho my baby preferred the pap bland so I breastfeed a little then give her pap. When she's closer to 6 months you can introduce the fruit purees and stuff. |

lotannad1: pls help!! my 2mths old has been coughing seriously! I took her to d hospital and was given antibiotic. is as if d tin aggravated d cough alongside vomiting. what can I do? It would get better. The cough was prolly caused by a chest infection and the antibiotics is to treat the infection, once the chest clears the cough would go too. Have patience and administer the drug a drop at a time so she doesn't vex and throw it all up. Also give her the drugs like 40 mins after a feed cuz she is more likely to throw up on a full stomach |

She seems to be doing better this afternoon, I hope it lasts. Hospital people have bluntly refused to admit us, I sha don't blame them, whenever my baby gets there she starts jumping up and down and trying to eat the doctor's note pad, they don't believe me when I say she's showing me pepper at home. helovesme: my dear, i have just been shaking my head on all the things i have been reading.
if I say what's on my mind, they will say I have come again.
Giddyperson please take your baby to the hospital ASAP. sepsis is a life threatening condition that needs to be taken seriously and treated urgently. I am surprised the hospital sent you home. they should have kept you at the hospital for at least 24 hours to monitor your baby.
enque please next time, give your child 'baby ibruofen;. (neurofen) it brings the fever down in record time compared to paracetamol and it avoids situations such as convulsion/seizures. as soon as the fever reduces, then take the child to the hospital.
cc. all mums always have a bottle of baby ibruofen (neurofen) in your first aid kit.
fever in children should never be taken lightly and can be due to so many reasons such as immunisation and infection.
once the fever is hovering 37-38degrees and paracetamol isn't working, please use neurofen. neurofen will bring down the temperature hence preventing a seizure/convulsion (I am speaking from personal experience and also advice I received from experienced health professionals)
it is an over the counter medication that can be used for babies from 3 months.
it can actually be used interchangeably with paracetamol (every 4 hours) for kids older than 12 months.
for kids below 12months with any symptoms of illness, take them to the hospital that same day - worst case scenario, first thing in the morning.
older than 12 months - monitor for 12 hours (max 24 hours) and then take them to the hospital.
with children, the earlier they are treated, the better as things can go from bad to worse very quickly. thanks I'd see if the neurofen is sold around here. |

Ambient I can't say I understand how you feel, the doctors haven't said anything at all? I won't recommend trado care sha but like I said earlier, I have no clue how to advise in this case. Praying for divine healing for your baby
Enque and Giddyperson hope your girls get well soon. It is well
Burntcoal give her the multivitamin and disregard the rest just to pacify MIL. keep the paracetamol for immunization days. That's when you'll need it. If MIL isn't there don't bother giving her any meds so far she's feeding well with no health issues lol the native doctors have to advertise their trade. Thanks |

Perhaps you should take her back to the hospital When my son had sepsis/malaria/pneumonia, he was placed on admission for 4 days. i just fed her the egg and she took it very well and has finally agreed to breastfeed, id go back if she throws up again. Waiting for hubby to come back first. |

enque: This was me all thru last week Her temperature got to 39.8...was moping her body with tap water and the water was getting warm. Got to the hospital and they ran tests and said it was malaria and her white blood cells count was high (Dr said her body is fighting an infection). We were given antimalaria and antibiotics. She refused eating anything with milk and and only wanted to be backed. My mum had to ask me to bring her over so she cld take care of her personally.
She is fine now...we are trying to regain her lost weight and her appetite is gradually returning. It was really stressful but thank God.
Hang in there... Give her her drugs as prescribed and she ll b fine. Ask for help in taking care of her if necessary.
Take care She doesn't even want to suck at all. She took little pap before which she's just thrown up. Can I boil an egg and give her the yolk cuz I'm running out of ideas here. |

womanofsteel: Trendytressy its not circumcision at all. When my mum was pressing down my dd clitoris, I actually saw the reason why she did that and I continued from where she stopped when she left till about 3 months. Learn how to do it when she's still around. Its just a gentle press
In newborn girls, the clitoris points out in a way that the labia doesn't cover it hence the pressing which makes it go inside while the labia cover it up
If you don't press it down, the labia may not closeup together there will be space between which is not nice. I can't explain it without pics but your mil is on the right and its not disguised circumcision in any way. Remember in circumcision, there is absence of clitoris. Sorry this is a load of crap. All that unnecessary rubbing desensitises the clitoris which is naturally meant to be extra sensitive. You better leave the vagina to be perfect as God made it if not what you are doing is moulding a girl who in future would pleasure her husband without getting pleasure in return. If the labia doesn't close up properly (which I doubt) so what. You probably want it to look nice for her future husband. The earlier people stop 'moulding' little girls as tools for men, the better for all of us. |

hunniesuzie: Try it with some formula or use apple puree to sweeten it. You can also make it into a shake and see if she drinks it. The mixagrain has that sweet vanilla-ish scent, maybe that's why.
It's the veggie beans that my son spat in my face this afternoon. He loves the other 2 I threw away my second half used tin of Nan yesterday cuz it's been open for over three weeks and she's just not a fan, I'd try sweetening with Apple then when I have energy |
