When I see people in England asking for connections for jobs I get amazed. Have you been to a place called Swansea in wales😂 If you find 1000 care jobs in Manchester, you will only see 35 in Swansea. Go on Indeed Jobs plenty Apply as much as you can And these agencies bringing people to the UK, let’s be careful, carry plenty money, borrow if you have to. |

I have an Amex card that I don’t use and I think I have zero points too. Apart from using it for daily transactions how do I build my Amex points Solumtoya: Credit Cards (CCs) are one of the best Credit Tools you can have but yes, like every good thing, it does have its dangers.
Most folks here are trying to build Credit Score and to be very honest, CCs are the easiest way to do so. There are so many other ways, of course, and you should do them: Registering in the Electoral Register, Setting up Direct Debits for Utility Bills, Phone/SIM Contracts, etc but from experience since these are not Credit facilities, they may not boost your score as much as a CC.
The rules of CC usage are simple: ensure you pay at least the minimum balance (usually 10% of your usage as at the statement date). So if your cycle is 1st to 30th of every month, on the 30th, you get a statement saying you have used £2,000 and you are given a grace period (typically extra 14 to 23 days) to pay back 10% or more, and whatever balance is unpaid, interest will be charged to the card after the grace period. During this grace period, the next cycle has obviously started running. And the next month balance will sum of what you spent in the month, plus the unpaid balance from the previous month and the interest added. IF YOU DON'T PAY THIS MINIMUM, YOU HAVE DEFAULTED.
Now, the main reasons why CCs are a brilliant facility are evident: 1. Their Interest-free periods means you can use them without ever paying interests: to do this, you must pay everything in full as the interest only starts counting on the unpaid balance after the grace period. An exception is usually Cash Withdrawals, Interest on Cash Withdrawals start counting immediately. Another evil trick of Cash Withdrawal is usually that their interest is higher. There's another evil of Cash Withdrawals but it might be a little technical to explain in this post. Just avoid Cash Withdrawals if you don't want interest 2. CCs are revolving, meaning they are like Overdrafts, not Term Loans, so if I have a limit of £6k, when I spend it and repay, my full limit is re-instated, so I don’t need to re-apply (ever) unless I void the contract. 3. Rewards: Most CCs earn you Miles, Points, etc for usage and referrals. 4. Fees: Many CCs come with little or no extra fees to the Cardholder. I could go on and on.
So, pretty much, you can use your Debit Card for only Cash Withdrawal and use Cash for non-Card payments, while you use your CC for everything else and pay little or no interest while building your credit score.
Now, as beautiful as it sounds, in my 7 years as a Credit Card Product Manager, I have seen so many people wallow in heavy credit card debts. The truth is most humans are not just disciplined enough to handle such an allowance of funds. They deep their hands into it at the slightest opportunity and end up living above their means. CCs are very addictive so don't get a CC if you love to spend, the CC provider would love you and keep increasing your limit and you may land in a gloomy state: you earn just £2k monthly and are given a £6k CC, as you spend and spend, they keep increasing the limit and before you know it, you have a £20k CC fully spent on that Funeral you sponsored inyou sponsored in Oshogbo and that trip to Turkey. How will you pay You break the card and start paying back £600 monthly, but that covers only the interest and the amount is NOT reducing every month. You realize you are stuck and have fallen for our trap and that is how we make our interest income and cover for those who are using the card wisely.
I'm sorry this post was really long, I even had to cut this short because I could go on and on about the benefits of CC (purchase protection, chargeback, acceptance, etc), the financially wise know this and hardly ever use Debit Cards but enjoy the benefits of a CC. The financially foolish use CCs to have fun for a few years or months and spend the rest of their lives as slaves to it. The choice is yours!
EDIT: For those who want the easy-to-get AMEX card with NO FIXED fees, you can use my referral link below. You get points for British Airways flights and and Holiday bookings. You get 8,000 points while I get 6,000:

Why do we actually need the name of the company? To do what? Is that the only company recruiting on indeed? Go on indeed and look for jobs simple. I know how funny my fellow Nigerians can be lol. I gave someone info on sponsorship job and this person did something that made me look stupid. Next time I go shut my mouth. |

God bless you guys I have not been eating well lately as I didn’t know how to go about it. Ticha: You are right. OP, Pay for January - follow it up immediately with an email explaining that due to circumstances beyond your control, you can only pay monthly for the foreseeable future. Include that you love the home, look after it as it it's your own, will not default in rent and you're happy for them to come have an inspection at a mutually convenient time.
They will have to give you 2 months notice to leave, you can also choose to stay and not leave and continue paying rent even when the notice ends. They'll have to take you to court and if you're paying your rent, have evidence the house is looked after and that you also informed them of that, you have a very strong chance of the court ruling in your favour too.
No sane agent/ landlord will go through the hassle of the court process of a tenant that is not an issue.
Good luck |

Thanks Will let you know how it goes semmyk: Your clarity is loud and clear. So essentially, you've moved in already. Your contract started ticking, (Lexusgs430 assumed correctly). Your clarity also shows that you're on a 9 mths contract (Oct to Jun) and you have two more quarterly rental payments to make: 05 Jan and 05 Apr. Your rental agreement doesn't look like the norm. However, it is what it is. It's the subsisting contract. It has to be honoured. With that said, pay attention to Onecoder valuable suggestion: cordial, frank engagement with the landlord. Be factual yet 'firm'. Lexusgs430 suggestion remains valid. LaXxOnebody was not way off either. With the clarity you've provided, you have to engage the landlord to reason and effect changes. Whatever you do or the out outcome is or is not, one thing that must happen by 04 Jan is that you must ensure £700 is paid for the rent. You'll take each month as it comes, dealing with all the issues that might crops up. Regarding you ensuring you at least paid the one month for Jan and monthly subsequently, kindly guard against using the phrase, unilateral change, whether by you or the agent/landlord. Just use the term, circumstances or any similar. All the best. @Ticha, any suggestion from rental law point of view on effecting monthly payment in good faith? This seems one of your strong areas. |

I want to start paying monthly. Thanks for your time semmyk: Your post is not clear enough. Also, you didn't provide what might people to assist you So, kindly provide the wording of the section that talks about this 3 mths payment. As you can see LaXxOnebody is asking you to read that section properly. - extract of contract that talks about this 3 mths upfront payment - have you moved in already or not. - if not, when are you supposed to move in - If yrs, when did you moved in All of these would shape how to provide you with suggestions on ... how do you go about this
[UPDATED] Just read Lexusgs430 rule of #contracts and way 4ward. Great suggestion to you. However, vyour post is not clear on those parts I've listed and underlined earlier.

Can I apply for a credit card as a student ? I work part time and don’t make much I will send an email to my estate agent Thanks Lexusgs430: Rule 1 -:
- Always read and understand any contract, because when you sign it, it's legally binding - Never sign a contract under duress/desperation
Way 4ward -:
Speak to your estate agent and try renegotiating payment terms.......
One of two things would happen, it's either you get a section 21 or they renegotiate.........
In the interim, apply for a credit card, that would give you a breaching limit ( with 3 months minimum interest free period).......... |

I have read it again and again and it says subsequent rents must be paid 3 months in advance. LaXxOnebody: Read the contract again. It's possible that the 3 months payment was just the initial, subsequently rent should be monthly.
Wait for input from others too. |

Hello everyone Merry Christmas
Please I need you guys to help me not crucify me abeg.
What if I can’t afford to pay 3 months upfront as it is in the contract ( I didn’t even read contract properly then as I was very desperate to get a house and all the agents requested upfront payment. My first payment was 3 months upfront and it is due soon. I can afford my rent monthly. I don’t even get paid that way. This rent issue is already affecting me, thinking too much. I feel it’s very unfair to people coming from outside the UK.
How do I go about this? Will I be chased out? I live with my child. I like the place and I don’t want to move out.
Please help me guys. Thanks |
