The whole floor is covered too and based on my research the external wall is necessary too
sonnie10: For it to work, please try to cover the whole floor and not just the walls. I don’t think there is need to cover the sides of the wall below your DPC level
I am implementing a wooden slat ceiling with MDF and not POP because I just love wood. Everyone was just saying why not POP? I said I want something different, not what nearly everyone else has
This method are common in most African countries I don't know why we don't use this method here in Nigeria,in Kenya they use this method is called Beam & Blocks think of how much someone can save on formwork, steel bars, bamboos etc...using this method
Akerewe: Am seeing this for the first time. U mean this is a decking of a building? What are the sizes of those steel bars used? Nawaaaa ooo!
Thanks maybe you can inbox me will be well appreciated I have a project going on ATM and coming from a zero idea so any knowledge will help me a lot, this is my first project and the little I know now is what i read from the internet and most are from here and YouTube
KIDfurniture: It will cast our little secret. I don’t want the handy guys to know our little secret. I always share with project owners only.
I'll advise you to seek another structural engineer advise before is too late
Akerewe: Yes I involved an engineer nd I was told 12mm is ok but the welder collected money for 12mm nd got this type which 12mm was written on it's body but after d casting I decided to check d iron with caliper we discovered its below 12mm in size nd it's already casted. D engineer said that's d 12mm everyone is using but am still worried because d caliper show that it's not d full 12mm size but 12mm was written on it's body
dongc: I would say major advantage of steel trusses are span... they can span further than timber and can be manufactured to exact standards without warping like wood.. More especially industrial buildings ...I dont know what building codes says...
1.the average age of your roof is increased as steel is a highly durable material. 2 It lasts longer with proper coating and can bear high stress and pressure
This look good sir,can you please share more light on this kind of formwork and why you chose iron not wood ?
rmx: Not an expert by any means , but all the challenges I have heard has to do with water entering due to so many reasons . Am confident in the engineer handling the projects that this will not be the case , in addition to the hidden roofs , also have roof terraces in 2 of the build, 1st build is in operation , no issues so far
Hoisting of the roof gutter into place just this afternoon on my third build
Your are correct sir there are so many ways to go about it the best way (depends on what you are shipping) is to pay for a space in one of those guys that ship containers regularly (especially those guys that ship used tires)
The only way to get it cheap is to buy it cheap overseas and then ship it in through the cheapest possible means.
I have done this several times, but this also means that you will not deal directly with customs.
it also means there will be some delays in clearing.
The one time that I tried to ship directly, item was in Nigeria in 3 days then customs slammed me with unspeakable charges, we had to go into serious negotiations to reduce the cost, it took almost a month.
Finally, I was offered a lower price to pay which was tens of times the cost I would have paid going through a third-party shipper.
Since then, it is a third-party shipper or nothing.
The is so much human intervention and opacity in the operations of customs clearing in Nigeria, don't be a victim.
I only do this when I compare the cost both ways and confirm I can despite everything get it cheaper importing or quality cannot be sacrificed.
sethtsadopp: This actually sounds good. I have a cousin living in Germany. Will you be willing to to share your friends contact? Want to find ask a few things especially about shipping.
Why not try and order from Europe most of this things are not expensive and the quality are way better than China, a friend of mine bought wc for over 15 years here in Germany for 15 euros and nothing happens to it till date
sethtsadopp: Has anyone attempted to buy house things from Alibaba. Stuff like toilet and kitchen fittings, toilet sit, washing hand basins, etc. Even some electrical fittings... From what I'm seeing, shipping by sea will reduce prices drastically. My fear is determining quality. Does anyone have any experience in this line or ventured this route before and is it worth trial or a no no even though potentially cheaper. I'm not new to buying stuff generally on Alibaba, my solar system, battery, inverters etc, I bought myself from there but I know little about building materials
Born2conquer: After staying in several serviced apartments and hotels, I've come to the perfect conclusion that simplicity (perfectly done) is the true luxury, it is not about those golden chairs (taste different sha) and those plump rock standard Chandelier (that you will get tired of seeing after 1 year) or those Italian golden POP.
Just a well done Simple finishing by a good and creative interior designer and I am good to go.
Do you know how many millions of people visit Nairaland ? how I wish you know what's going on behind the scenes is not everyone that comes here to BUGA and for the record my engineer was recommended to me here, my broda I beg bring down your shoulder you never know who's going to help you grow your business
dangoteinlaw: don't fool yourself there's really nothing going on here.
I thought you don't attend to Nairalanders calls Always think before posting anything out there "INTERNET NEVER FORGET"
dangoteinlaw: lasgidi however architecture has no boundaries. I have made nairalanders here from ibadan and I think ekiti state residents here landlords all via online connection and sending drawings accross to them. One is already at roofing stage and I speak and I still don't know his face
Define professional services in Nigeria and if you don't attend to any call from nairaland why are you advertising your skills here buga po
dangoteinlaw: I guess he couldn't find a cheap architect what will take his 5k. Which nairalander can pay for professional services non. Any call I get from nairaland I don't bother attending to it.
If I can remember you said you were living in Germany before relocating to uk so you should know better is not about getting an architect to draw the plan but the implementation to the standard am used to was my biggest concern
diordaves: You don't need a carpenter. What you described is called a chalet bungalow. You should have gotten an architect to draw up plans for a chalet bungalow and give the plan to your builder or the architect to build. There are chalet bungalows in Nigeria nicely done.
Or you can get an architect to design just the roof space and give the roof design to your roofer. It's not rocket science even in Nigeria standard.
Because you will face the challenge of straight cut wood, you have to deck upstairs instead of using wood trusses for the loft floor.
That is so sad because of this I had to change my building to duplex I wanted to build a bungalow with a loft in the roof but after a long time enquiries I couldn't find any reliable carpenter
InvertedHammer: / In Nigeria, do your best to keep it simple. Most of the people you will encounter no sabi work--muscle without brain.
