HealthRe: Nigerians Can't Donate Blood In The US? by gigitte(f): 5:50pm On Jul 19, 2006
some of you dont even know the real deal there!

as the first posted said nigeria and four other countries were specifically mentioned, and you know what it said? (this was when i was considering donating blood in 2004). it said if you were born in nigeria, if you had ever been to nigeria or if you had had sex with a nigerian consider yourself exempt. i dont think uganda was part of those four countries mentioned because i remember having a big fight with my YT roomie about it. she said it was because of the high prevalance of HIV and it would be expensive to test for HIV in the blood, since you most likely had it anyway. I wanted to slap that nonsense out of her mouth, because i remember that Uganda, kenya or South Africa went even on that list. (maybe things have changed)

also i know its not cos of malaria, because malaria was specifically mentioned elsewhere in the guidelines as were other countries and stuff. like if you been to england in the last three months or so, you cant donate for so and so time or something like that. but nigeria and these four other countries or sumn, no explanation was given and they were all from africa

since then, i always snarl at anyone who looks at me hungrily and asks for my blood, they especially like doing that thing on college campuses angry angry angry

im in the same exact predicament. i love him so much but i know theres no future together, so im like really torn on what to do at the moment. keep living a lie or just come out and say goodbye. i want to do the latter but don't know how. would hate to hurt him. help me people! cry cry cry cry cry
i'm going through the same thing, except i dont love him oh, i like him a lot sha. funny thing is i can never be sure that the he feels the same way even though he says that he does. being together is next to impossible. but what can i do? im just going to walk away. everyday you wake up and ask God to give you the strength to keep walking away.

Music/RadioRe: Beyonce New Single "de Ja Vu" Feat (jay Z) by gigitte(f): 8:46am On Jul 13, 2006
have y'all seen the video?

first of all, shez modelling way too many clothes from her HOD line, it looks like one big commercial

two.she's just acting crazy, whats up with that ooga booga dance. now ppl will be saying shes getting in touch with her african roots.nonsense

three.why is she all up on jay-z like that. jay-z was acting like she was a hip-honey and not his gf. and she too was doing like she wouldnt let him breathe. i hope its not like so in their real life (i think it is lol)

four. what was that aSS tap? simply ridiculous

five. a lot of ideas in that vid look stolen

six. i respect that she went in a diff direction but abeg the vid in no way complimented the song.what was she even doing? running around in new orleans all sweaty and stuff and then dancing in the sand like a possessed person. maybe if they had used the fact new orleans is know for magicky stuff or sumn, then they could have shown her as a creole in the old days with all her gloves and HOD stuff and as a cosmopolitan woman today and shes fallin' in love with jay-z as a plantation worker then and as a hip hop record exec now.

she just wasted this chance, cos a lot of ppl werent really feelin the song. and unlike crazy in love, i dont think this one will grow on me.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Can A Non-nigerian Hot Sista Becomes A Movie Star In Nigeria Movies? by gigitte(f): 12:32am On Jul 12, 2006
this babe you're too funny!
i dont know about packing ur bags and moving to naija lol cos our actors and actresses don't make it like that
i think you should try and find the contacts of a few good naija directors like tayo ogidan or sumn, not all these Iweka road ppl.
work on your acting skills and charisma and star quality and sell yourself as a brand. tell how you can help them sell okay. dont go begging for roles. but abeg i hope you know how to act. i think you will be hot akara cos you're a foreigner.

it doesnt matter that you arent nigerian. who cares! after all abby and mwisho from big brother did some naija movies.
good luck hun
remember nairaland when u hit it big!

Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Be Ordained To Head Churches And Mosques? by gigitte(f): 7:34pm On Jul 03, 2006
i wil as usual speak from a catholic point of view

who ever mentioned that without mary magdalene the ministry of jesus would have been incomplete is completely right but i disagree that it means that women should be ordained. after all, mary magda was not a disciple of christ even though he could have very well chosen her. i think the whole ordination question is like when u tell some naija parents you want to be a nurse and they tell you to be a doctor. y'all feel me that doctors arent really superior to nurses, they may work closely but their work is different and they need each other to make the health care system work, its a symbiotic relationship. i think it is the same way with men and women in the church, men being ordained into the roles of priests and being allowed to say mass and confer sacraments etc etc may have the more 'glamorous' roles, after all they are the ppl we see at mass, as cardinals and as pope but does it mean that women who take holy orders are less important, i think not, their work is just different. but a lot of ppl dont see that they just see as marginalization or patriarchy but they way me i see just like in a marriage, a husband may be the head of the house, but his house will be not be the same without his wife who may not be head but is just as important, and a singer may always be in the limelight but she needs good producers, etc etc etc, are those ppl less important than the singer? i dont think so

and in cases where there is a shortage of priests, nuns can run the parish and just have another priest come say mass.

in summary, men and women for the most part are called to different roles in the church, both of which are equally important

LiteratureRe: Weep Not Child by gigitte(f): 8:05am On Jun 30, 2006
i read weep not child when i was very young, i would say like fourth/fifth grade
and it made me really sad, i really cant explain why
i think it was the on going struggle in the novel, struggle for independence, identity, good life, struggle for that girl
i dunno, everything just seemed kinda sad, like there was no respite for that poor boy and he couldnt really escape his circumstances

or maybe im just talking nonsense, thats how i remember the book sha. i know i will have a diff perspective if i read it now that im older
