FamilyRe: Wives: Would You Submit Your Paychecks To Your Husbands? by GL(f): 2:32am On Feb 15, 2006
It's good if couples are close enough to disclose such information. It's the best.

However, if the man wants to make it a submission issue, no woman should agree. Let the man go and earn his own money and mind his business.
FamilyRe: Nigerian Men Who Rule their Homes With Terror by GL(f): 2:25am On Feb 15, 2006
This goes on a lot and it is very bad. I think that women are to blame most of the time, though. This is because you see women who have been maltreated several times still making excuses for their husbands. If women would have the courage to pack up their belongings and leave, men would be forced to calm down.

Even more disconcerting is when u see this happening amongst unmarried couples i.e. a boyfriend and a girlfriend / fiance and fiancee. I think that is pure rubbish. How do you keep going out with someone who terrorises you?

Christianity EtcRe: What Church Do You Attend? by GL(f): 1:52am On Feb 15, 2006
I attend the Redeemed Christian Church of God (R.C.C.G), but I do not believe it is the best church ever. I am concerned that many R.C.C.G members tend to think of themselves as superior and others as rivals. God called ALL of us and has given everyone work to do. We should see others as partners in getting our Father's business done. We should encourage and support one another.

In my opinion, Jesus didn't want His children to see themselves as rivals but as brothers. No bigotry, no competition.

Luke 9:49
And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

What matters is your personal relationship with God, not the church you attend.

Let all of us Christians join hands to drive this spirit of rivalry and competition out of the Church.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus Prophesied and Warned: Paul is False Prophet/Messiah by GL(f): 1:24am On Feb 15, 2006
I saw Jesus in the topic and checked it out, but I'm not so sure if this is an Islamic thread?

If you're preaching to your Muslim brethren, that's ok. Though I must say that i'm surprised your sermon should be based on the Bible - the holy book of another religion, and not the Koran - the Islamic holy book.

However, if you're preaching to everyone, I must say that it is all hogwash. u're twisting the bible's message and doing a very terrible job of it. Maybe u should take some time out to read the New Testament all over.

Are you hoping to convert christians with ur sermon, or , ?

If you are, I think you'd make far more impact living a good Islamic life and preaching what the Koran says, rather than twisting the bible to fit ur sermon.

Whichever way, I think you'd be better of sticking to your religion rather than trying to be a pastor preaching from the bible.

IslamRe: Prophet Muhammad in the Bible by GL(f): 12:27am On Feb 15, 2006
NO, Muhammed isn't mentioned in the Bible. Why? the bible was written years before Muhammed was born.

BTW, the Comforter Jesus said He would send is the Holy Ghost, who came down on the day of Pentecost. see Acts 3. Muhammed was definitely not born then.

I notice some ppl are trying to make it look like Muhammed was good so the bible should have acknowledged him. However, that is where Christianity is different. The truth is, Christianity excludes all other religions.

Jesus made some very bold claims, "I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life, NO ONE cometh to the Father EXCEPT by ME." (emphasis mine)

This is to say that Jesus didn't regard anyone who didn't acknowledge Him as the Son of God - and God- as from God.

The bible goes further to say in 1 John 2:22-23 -

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
CelebritiesRe: Mc Weird Confesses She Is A Lesbian by GL(f): 12:27am On Feb 13, 2006
my sister and I were arguing earlier 2day about her gender. I thought she was a man but my sister said she's female.

A lesbian!!!huh

It's such a pity cos I love(d) the song.

Well, with this new law she'll either have to change or leave the country.

In the meantime, let's see what her confession would do for/to her musical career.
TV/MoviesRe: Silverbird Cinemas, Nigeria by GL(f): 1:40am On Feb 11, 2006
I think Silverbird Cinema, being the main or only cinema in Nigeria, should show Nigerian movies, however bad they may be. They can help to improve the quality.

I've never visited because I live on the mainland and VI is far - the last time I was in VI, I spent 2 hours in the traffic jam going and 4 hours coming back. It is usually a whole day's affair so I can't go there just to watch a film. My neighbor went there sometime ago with his kids (they watched Shark Tale). He spent so much time in the traffic jam to and fro and had to spend a lot of money buying the kids snacks on the way. He said it was a great place but he wouldn't go through all that stress to watch a movie again.

I watched Shark Tale sometime later in my house and had the luxury of going back whenever I missed something.

Silverbird is a great place for those who live near or happen to be in the area, but for those who live far, I think it isn't worth the time and expenses. Once silverbird starts advertising/showing a film, u can be sure it is already on sale. So u can try buying the film and watching it in the comfort of your home instead: film- 300, popcorn- 30, coke- 120; total- 450.

LiteratureRe: Those Who Love Novels by GL(f): 1:03am On Feb 11, 2006
Danielle Steel is good but i don't like the way her books end, they always make me want to cry. I always feel depressed after reading her books so I stopped. The first was Daddy, then Fine Things, Wanderlust, Full Circle, The Kiss, Palomino, Lone Eagle, Crossings (that's about all i've read). The Kiss had the best ending. Lone Eagle and Crossings were the hardest on me. After Crossings I decided not to read Danielle Steel anymore.

V.C. Andrews is quite similar to Danielle Steel, in that her books also have that sad note, however, i think she's on a higher plane.

LiteratureRe: Does Harry Potter Encourage Witchcraft? by GL(f): 12:36am On Feb 11, 2006
Of course, Harry Potter encourages witchcraft. Why? Because it portrays it witchcraft as having power to do good or bad. Like you can do a lot of good for people through witchcraft. It gives one the impression that you can either be a good or a bad witch. In other words, it isn't a bad thing. Now, everyone loves to have power.

I think the question should have been if it is good for children. For those who do not believe in witchcraft (or its existence), Harry Potter is just a figment of the author's imagination and is a great book.

But for those of us who believe witchcraft is bad, always bad. Harry Potter isn't a good book for children, maybe even adults.

I read Harry Potter some years ago, when I was 13. I LOVED it, couldn't put it down. It was so interesting, I took it to the school chapel during service and even read it during prep the night before exam. Before reading it I heard ppl say it wasn't good, witchcraft etc. I read it anyway. After reading it I thought about it for a long time (I'm like that after reading any interesting book) and actually began to wish I was a witch! When I told my friends, who hadn't read it, they were shocked. I began to explain to them how witchcraft could be used for good. It wasn't until someone sat me down and began to show me that the bible forbids any form of witchcraft (i'm a christian) that i came to my senses. I haven't read any other Harry Potter book since then.

Some ppl argue that it teaches morals. Personally, i believe that for religious ppl the holy books (in my case - The Bible) are all we need for inspiration and moral instruction. There are other books that teach morals without introducing witchcraft e.g. eze goes to school, without a silver spoon, second chance, mother's choice etc.
