Again and again, atheist dont have anything to prove. Atheist are not hostage to any beliefs or dogma. Most atheist are walking question marks, seeking and asking. A great man once said that " Its better to start from a position of doubt and arrive at certainty than to start with a position of certainty and arrive at doubts". That statement is what defines Atheism. It is not a belief. Unlike religion, science evolves and self corrects itself when new knowlege is obtained.Considering all the knowledge we have accumulated just over the past two hundred yrs, in just another two hundred years, we will definitely know more than we know today.
Logic and reasoning is far more superior than blind faith in understanding the world, the universe and ourselves. Let me give u a simple analogy to illustrate this point.
In Nigeria, all the indices used to measure properity and standard of living have been falling for the past 30yrs or so. Today, the industrial sector is comatose, education is very low quality, so we are not producing human capacity for future economic growth. Add corruption and high cost of governance, decayed and neglected infrastrucure, police corruption and its attendant insecurity, week and unstable currency due to low productivity and week exports. Add all these up and u'll get high unemployment and high crime rates. By stuying all these data, one can peer into the future and predict accurately that it is not going to be rosy at all. According to the world bank, Nigeria needs 30yrs of uninturrupted economic growth at the rate of at least 8% per annum to achieve some measure of what we call prosperity.
On the other hand, churches have taken over abadoned factories to sing halleluya. In those same abadoned factories, Religious pastors like Adeboye have been telling his followers everyday for the past 20 yrs that God has revealed to him tha he(GOD)is going to do a special thing for Nigeria very soon and that each member's prosperity was assured. For those empty assurances, he gets to pick their pockets for his own prosperity.
The point am trying to make with analogy is this: Would a rational mind ignore emperical data to cling to  what comes out of another person head in the form of visions , dreams or revelations?Religious belief or feeling is subjective and therefore cannot be trusted. let me put it another way: Religion might taste good on the inside ( for the religious person), but it tastes horrible on the outside.

First @ sweetnecta . Sweetnecta asked whetehr their has been any bridge that designed itself. The answer is no.But that is a false analogy. A brigde is designed and built by teams of designers, engineers and workers of different deciplines who themselves had priors education and training on the laws of Physics as it pertains to building bridges. The brigde comes about as a result of the collaboration of these teams of engineers and the different processes over a period of time. A process is involved.
To sweetnecta and those who claim that only an omnipotent and omnipresent god could have created the universe, that is ok. But let me ask you this question, and pls pls answer me:How did the omnipotent god come about without a prior source or another designer? If God created himself, that is , he ramdomnly appeared out of nothing, then why couldn't have the universe appeared out of a random big bang as well? Do you see how your blind faith belief contradicts itself. You believe that god self-created himself(CAME TO BE FROM NOTHING) and at the same time you beleive that the universe could not have come  to be from of nothing. How do you explain that contradiction?

For some reason, IBB commands so much loyalty and admiration from his 'boys'. You never hear of an IBB loyalist flipping on him and taking sides against him. On the other hand, OBJ can't seem to maintain the loyalty of his own son. Even people he made ministers and governors have insulted him on various occasions. Who would have thought that Fani Kayode would make such disparaging comments against OBJ. It's like they all could not stand this dude but just put up with him for what they could benefit at the moment. He's probably the kind of guy that belittles, victimizes and ridicules you as he helps you, knowing that you don't have any other choices. Meanwhile, IBB's boys from over twenty years ago are as steadfast as ever. Not taking sides, but just observing this glaring difference in these two characters.

So what does that tell you about the two men? In war, IBB would make a better leader, a better commanding officer, and after war he would also make a better healer and unifying leade,r because of his charisma and better understanding of human nature. But when entrusted with the commonwealth of 120m Nigerians, those same qualities made him a destroyer rather than a builder, leaving ill mannered, hot tempered, but commited leader like OBJ to clean up the mess that he and his band of locust inflicted on the nation.

Interesting. I wonder why Fani- Kayode issued this statement because he contradicts himself in some many words. First, he states that OGJ is the greatest president in our history ( I agree 100%)as the records speak for themselves ,and later, he says that IBB is the better man because IBB stands by his loyalists. He does not say anything about IBB's Horrific perfomance as president which is the theme of this debate and controversy. He conveniently forgot that IBB fired the first shot in this war of words between the two former presidents. That IBB saved OBJ's life by foiling Dimka's coup is such a silly and immature statement coming from Fani Kayode. IBB was performing his duty as a loyal officer of the Nigerian armed forces and not for the interest of OBJ.
There is just no comparison between the two men.OBJ is a builder, IBB is a destroyer.The records are there. Though it might appear that OBJ failed in his attempt to rebuild and revitalise our nation, that was simply because the collapse and rot in the system was much more severe than any one ever imagined. We must give OBJ credit for his sincere and dogged effort. The same cannot be said of IBB who, with his band of vultures and jackals(the so-called IBB boys or loyalists) destroyed our educational system, our health system, our infrastructures, our police force, our currency, the judiciary, our industrial sectors, and the armed forces etc etc. Loyalist my foot. I'm happy that Fani -Kayode acknowledges that OBJ is not and has never been beholden to any so-called loyalist.
I wonder how many loyalist IBB would have had by now if he did not fraudulently enrich himself and his so-called loyalist.
OBJ is human and although his loquacious personality might have diminished his peformance in office, I am very proud of his many achievements and his dogged commitment to the Nigerian project.
Unfortunately, OBJ has become everyone's whipping boy. I imagine that his main crime wouldi that he dislodged thousands of our parasitic elites  from their cozy feeding positions.

What a Pity for Africa. You can only reap what you sow.The continent with the least investment in human capital can only reap confusion and stagnation. The main reason that our third world peers like South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil , India and others are light years ahead of us in economic progress is simply because these same nations have been investing greatly in the development of human capital over past 4 decades, while , we on other hand, have jostling and scrampling to get a piece of the so-called national cake.
Our wealthy elites are still not investing in human capital, rather, they building private universities for pure profit. With the high poverty rate in Nigeria,How many many average Nigerian parents can afford to send their Children to these mushrooming private Universities? The gap between the rich and the poor will continue to widen.
When will the leaders and wealthy elites begin to invest in human capital? It is the only thing that can save us.

You are going to be sorry for yourself. I can bet my money on that. Forex trading is not the answer for unemployment. It is for proffessional traders who trade with billions of dollars of intstutional money for banks, mutual funds, hedge funds and even soverign wealth funds. They can well afford to lose millions today and hope to make it back tomorrow. I have never met any individual who is living on profits from forex trading.The many who lose all their life savings are often too ashamed to admit it to anyone.
Let anyone that you know show you proof that they are making a good living on forex trading. It sounds fun and exciting when ur doing practice trading,but when u put your real money into it, sadness and sorrow will become your constant companions.
If you are very wealthy and you can afford to lose $5000 to $10000 while trying to hit a jackpot , then by all means go ahead. Otherwise, DONT DO IT.

My heart is delighted to see a young person on the right track. Your mind is in the right place. Food business is the best business. Just buy whatever food items u are interested in , transport them to lagos and you can start by selling wholesale to market women in agege, Ogba, Ikeja, oyingbo and other markets in lagos. later on, you may want to clean, weigh and package them for exporter buyers like myself. Now to those that say the existence of life and all the wonders of the universe show that it had to be designed and created by god, let me briefly agree with you just for the sake of this argument. If we accept that the universe was designed and created by a singular entity, god,then a deeper question arises. Who created god? and who created the creator of god ? and on and on and on. Unless, god also created himself, as I have often  heard them claim. If there is one god, then why not too, and if there are two , then why not three or an entire clan? The religious folks often say that god is a mystery, and thats why we cannot understand his ways. Fine. BUt If that is so, then religion is redundant, superflous and highly irrelevant.
If god is a mystery, then why not employ the scientic or empirical method in the search for god?  

It is worthy of note that the authors and later editors of the holy books did not know what an atom was and did not understand that germs were the causes of disease and death. It is also worthy of note that the ancient hebrews worshipped a variety of gods contrary to what is commonly portrayed.  they worshipped, Baal, Ashtera, Lillith(the queen of heaven) as well as yahweh. It may shock you to know that the ancient jewish rabbis considered the foursome a family, with Yahweh as the father, Ashtera as the mother, Baal was the son and Lillith was the daughter. It was during the time of Elijah that the Yawehist declared war and attempted to stamp out the worship of the other three dieties. (first recorded case of religious intolerance). From that period on , the yahwehist gained control of the preisthood ,and naturally, they wrote scriptures  from their own point of view , eversince .

The bibble  has numerous and repeated references of multiple deities competing for power. The older scriptures mention, several canaanite deities such as  Adoni, El, El Elion, El Shadai(god of the mountain) and Yahweh. Modern  revisions and editions(??)( can a mortal revise and edit the supposed word of an all-knowing and infallible god?) have removed the names of these different dieties by simply compressing them into a singular LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. Very clever indeed.

It is also worthy of note that when a people are conquered, the god of the conquerers become the supreme diety and the god of the conquered people becomes the demon.

Africans are not religious. Africans are simply superstitious. For Africans south of the sahara, the part of the brain that is responsible for logical reasoning and healthy sceptism is immasculated from infancy and therefore rarely manifest in adulthood even with some education. Most africans live in fear all of their lives, so it becomes a matter of necessity to substitute precolonial superstitions ( i.e ancesteral spirits protect me) with newer or more trendy superstitions( jesus or holy spirit protect me). As for religion, especially christianity, far majority of african dont really understand it and dont care to understand it except for the supersttitious aspects of it. Thats why precepts of Jesus regarding meekness, tolerance and love are sidelined by the new age churches in favour of miracles(superstitions) and properity(greed), deliverance from the devil(fear) and damnation to those who do not follow(wickedness).
The abundance of religious houses in every street corner is evidence of the fear, not religiousity. every one feels that they must belong somewhere to protect them from both real and imaginary obstacles they face in the very complex and sad economic , social and political realities of the modern world.
lacking political and economic stability, quality education and any rigid or codified philosophical system, Africvans seem to be the most handicapped in adapting and coping with modern life.
Why Do i need to understand the compexity of our universe when its easier for me to believe that an omnipotent diety just snapped his fingers and everything came to be?. Why do I need to understand bacteria and viruses as causes of illness and death when i can just blame witches and evil spirits?

The average Nigerian, for example stands petrified each morning as he contemplates the many challenges that face him each day. Robbery attackes in his home or in his car, robbery inside a bus, accidental discharge from a police rifle, or a stray bullet from a rober's gun, being crushed to death by a moving vehicle on an okada, being crushed to death by a fallen container on the road, being kidnapped or abducted by ritual killers, and the list goes on and on.
So he has no choice but to surrender his spirit, his will and his wallet to any one who can offer him carefully crafted delusions of omnipotent protection and blessings.

My point is : The pre-eminence of any philosophical or religious precepts or system can easily be seen or measured by the sum of its output or achievements. Emperical science seems to be the ultimate saviour of humankind. If you are reading this posting, then u are validating my point.

How do they work? From data gathered from computer simulations,scientist are saying that the earth may have had two moons up until abt 4 billion years ago? WOW. Its seems that the two moons collided and fused with eath other.I sn't that interesting? That might explain the extensive debri found in the astoroid belt in space . It all kinda makes sense, doesn't it?

First, who and or wat is the source of the scriptures upon which u base your belief in the existence and divinity of Jesus? And where is the proof in the very scriptures that you speak about? Jesus was proclaimed son of god by a group of bishops under direction of Constantine at the council of Nicea in 325AD. In other words, by imperial edict.
Outside of the gospels written by unknown persons 300yrs or so after the facts, there is no historical or archeaological evidence for exixtence of the very character that supposedly had so much influence on the people of his time. The time of Jesus was an era of great political and religious schisms in Palestine. It therefore was an era of great literary activity. Its quite suspicious that there is nothing, I mean nothing, mentioned or written of Jesus in the roman archives, the Jews of palestine, or any other historical sources of that era.

I always laugh when people ask for proof of evolution. We see microscopic organism like bacteria and Viruses mutate from one form to another in order to become drug-resistant. In other words, they mutate to survive. That is evolution at the microscopic level. Science is only a few hundred years old considering that evolution takes millions of years to manifest in any observable way. It is known that human beings of today are taller than those that lived just about 300yrs ago. That is evolution. The fact that today, we can manipulate the genes of plants and domestic livestock to create and promote desired traits for the food needs of our growing population is sure proof of evolution, but at an accelerated level.

I also find it very funny, and very sad that the very Africans that believe so much in the religous and superstitious myths of the ancient hebrews as history , share so much disdain for the colorful historical legends or myths of African tribes like the Dogons or the Yoruba. The Yoruba myth, sorry, i mean history of creation and the dramas among the yoruba deities is as colorful and enlightening as the myths from the land of Caanan and Greek myths (borrowed from egypt). Who has ever Studied Yoruba cosmonogy In School? We are the most brainwashed people on the planet.
A yoruba man was preaching to me abt the miracles of moses and elija when i interupted him and asked him to tell me abt the miracles of Shango . I get so sad when I see the way majority of Nigerians reason. I wonder if there is a stupidity gene running through our blood. We love sentiments soo much that we easily clutch on to it to escape any form of critical thinking or to face realities. After 12 or so yrs in detention on murder charges, Al Mustapha has come out to make some revelations. People have been responding with all sides of their mouth on these revelations, yet i hv not read any response that has made much sense to me.
Lets take critcal look at these revelations and ask ourselves some critical questions.

Al mustapha alleges that:

1. That he was a close friend of Abiola and had been helping Abiola to actualise his mandate.
Question: Really? As Abacha's CSO, would that not suggest that he was not loyal to his boss Abacha and had ,therefore committed what would have been deemed treason against Abacha?

2. That prominenet Yoruba leaders visited aso rock after Abiola's death and took money as settelement.
Question: For those that have a very short memory, i remember that there was so much tension in the land that it was imperative for Abdusallami to summon Yoruba leaders and elder statesmen to Aso rock to plead and apeal to them to help maintain and guarantee peace in that critical time. What is the big deal abt that? It is common for heads of state to summon leaders and elder statesmen to Aso rock on critical issues affecting the nation and we all assume that there are video cameras all over Aso rock.So wat is the big deal about video showing yoruba leaders going to or coming from Aso rock?

3. That Bola Ige and Pa Adesanya came to aso rock to be settled:
Question: There were dozens of yoruba leaders who were summoned to aso rock during that period, why does Al-mustapha only remember the two who just happen to be dead? Isn't that just too convenient? How much money was given to the two and where is the video tape evidence showing them taking the money? who else benefitted from the loot?

4. That abdusalami withdrew money from the central bank during that period.
Question: So? withdrawing huge sums of money to aso rock or their private residences has always been the perogative of Nigeria's military rulers. Babangida did it, Abacha did it, and so what if Abdusalami did it?

5. that prominent Yoruba leaders were used to scutlle abiola's mandate.
Question: Was this during Babangida's rule, abacha's rule or within the few days between abacha's and Abiola's deaths? And wat is so new abt this revelation? We have been hearing it since 1993.

Now to the mother of all questons: How does all these so called revelations justify or absolve Al-mustapha of the charges of Conspiracy and murder of Kudirat Abiola? As a soldeir, why does he not take full responsibility for his actions while serving his former boss abacha? All he has to do is show evidence that he did not commit the crimes for which has been charged, rather than ramble abt irrelevant issues that we all probably know already. I do not see the bomshell in these so called revelations. All I see are the incoherent ramblings of a murderous, power drunk psychopath ,who cannot adjust to the realities of his new life even after 12 yrs in detention. It is very scary to think that this type of human material was so close to the seat of power. I wonder how many Al-Mustaphas and Abachas are out there waiting for an opportunity to wreck more havoc on our dear nation.

Interesting reading. At last, someone has been reading the bible with an open eye. But I would like add another angle on this story for you to ponder. First, one roman legion is equal to 2000 soldiers. It appears that the roman authorities were certainly pissed off enough to send legions to apprehend one man. From the bible , it apears that the scene at the temple was not just a small skirmish after all,but had turned into a full scale battle during which many roman soldiers were killed. the biblical authors or later editors did not elaborate on this and now , I'll reveal  why they could not. It appears that during the battle or attempted uprising in the temple, many of Jusus' followers were also killed and some captured. The authors or early editors of the bible seemed to have a terrible habit of maligning anyone that was close to jesus, for example, they labelled his wife, Mary Magdalene, a harlot(mary magdalene could not hv been a harlot simply because the mary was not a name but a sacred and higly revered title given to special women who were from a sacred bloodline that goes all the way back to egypt. In egypt and in those days, you can only become pharoah or king only after you wed a MARY because the MARY carries the royal or sacred blood .So jesus had to marry the MARY of Magdala in order to become the legitimate king and reclaim the throne of Isreal. Their first and second wedding ceremonies are even mentioned in the bible for those who can read and reason. Hints: The annointing of his feet with rare and expensive oil by none other than the MARY of MAGDFALA is the first part of the royal wedding ceremony while the wedding at Bethany was the concluding part of the wedding. Do you see the pattern? why were they doing this and wat were they trying to hide? As a result of his first son's capture, Jesus used his most trusted and wisest desciple, Judas, to negotiate a surrender in order to exchange himself for the release of his son jesus bar-rabbi. Non of his other disciples were privy to this arrangement, that is why at the appointed time , he remined Judas to go and do what he must do(what they had agreed upon): that is to usher in the roman soldeirs for his surrender. When his other disciples drew their sword at the sight of the roman soldiers, Jesus commaned them to put their swords down.The bible tells us that jesus bar-rabbi or barrabas as he was renamed by editors, later regained his freedom( just as they had agreed).

So correction. Judas was not a traitor, rather, was  a trusted companion of Jesus whom the editors and early church fathers of the new christian religion had maligned and calumnized in order to hide the family life of jesus and therefore rob jesus of his humanity, having crowned him a god. In so doing , they robbed Jesus of his family life, his youth, his sojourn and education in India, Tibet and egypt where he was exposed to the Buddhist and hermetic doctrines and philosophies that shaped his adult life and teachings.

But as emperor, he hijacked the council and forced the council to adopt the articles of faith(the Nicean Creed) of the newly born Roman Universal (Catholic) Religion. It was at the council that the word Yaesu (the man) and Christos(abstract spiritual pricinple or saviour ) were merged together as Yaesu christos. Thus Yaesu or jesus became became the son of god by emperial fiat at the council of Nicea. As the sole custodians of the scriptures, the scriptures were REDACTED to reflect the new status of jesus and the newly incorporated doctrines. The scriptures or books that were too difficult to redact were simply rejected and not included in the new christian Bible. 65 books in all were rejected. They are called non-canonical books. They include the book of Enoch , the book of Jasher etc.Those that vehemently opposed him were silenced or killed. The rest we all know is history.

Is religion not about finding a path to inner spiritual refinement?. You are a very bad poster child for your religion. You seem so obsessed with finding fault with other faiths or sects. You are so zoned out by the sweetness of the OPIUM that you smoke that you cannot see any good in other peoples opium, therefore u feel compelled to slander and demonise them. why dont you just bask happily on ur own delusions and leave others to do the same?

Sound familiar? The spiritual journey is a long, tedious and lonely path. If you were on this journey, surely you would not have the time nor the temperament to antagonise people of different faiths or sects.

From the responses to your posting you can see that that there ia a dearth of intelligence in our land. Nigerians are hardly capable of deep critical thinking especially when it comes to matters of religion. We just love things that divided people. You chose the wrong audience for this topic. When it comes to religion, we are deaf and dumb.
Our educational system is configured and rigged to produce shallow and fragmented minds, not thinkers or philosophers . Fragmented mind equals fragamented reality. I am harrased everyday by people who have little or no inner virtues to shine forth as examples, but who spend much time trying to convince me of the superiority of their beliefs.
