champredd:Thanks ooo my brother. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this line of thinking. |
laudate:Laudate, actually, my response to this thread was also based on reports that Yar 'Adua plans on making about 4 ex-governors ministers, including James Ibori (because he funded his campaign). We need to start placing technocrats like Okonjo-Iweala as ministers and not these air head politicians. But as far as the position of SGF goes, Kingibe, while not my favourite choice, is still okay. |

MAMAJAMA:lmao ![]() you guys need to stop the dissing. |
You said the woman looted from the ministry of education, I asked you how do you know this, you still can't answer. No one should ever take people like you serious, you make statements based on emotion, not fact ! And when asked to back up your claim, you carry on ranting with your tantrums Next time, don't come here and make statements about issues you know nothing about. |
Again, you cannot make blatant accusations without proof. STAND BY YOUR WORD ! No where in Nigeria's vibrant news media has she ever been linked with looting. And as far as her leaving the ministry of education, again, its her life ! She doesn't owe you or anyone an explanation as to where she chooses to work. If you don't like Ezekwesili, fine ! But don't come here and say because she only spent a couple of months at the ministry of education, that she looted from the place. An opportunity came up to work at the world bank and she chose to go that route. That is not a crime now, is it ? Wetin B big big grammar and post This is the Budget monitoring price and Intelligence unit/due process federal website. Just because you have not heared of it does not mean it doesn't exist. Take a look at it and see what it's all about, okay ? http://www.bmpiu.gov.ng/online/ |
Sorry, but can't rely on Sahara reports. I'll believe your story when it comes from a more reliable source. |
Please provide proof that Ezekwesili looted while in government. When did leaving a ministerial position turn into looting ? If she stayed too long now, people would say she dey chop too much and no wan commot. Please do not make accusations you cannot back up. |
But Ezekwesili was Minister of Education for only a couple of months. I believe she shouldn't be seen as the worst under OBJ at all, she performed creditably well as head of Budget Monitoring Price and Intelligence Unit/ Due Process. The Best minister under OBJ was Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. She talked our creditors into writing off $18 billion of our debt, a great feat indeed. |
Isn't it obvious by now that what we need are younger technocrats to move our country forward ? During OBJ's first term, the bulk of the folks of his cabinet were the oldies - Danjuma, Ali Chiroma, & co. During his second term, he appointed people like Okonjo-Iweala, Oby Ezekwesili, El-rufai & co. We all know how much the younger technocrats have contributed to our country within the 2003 - 2007 period. Rather than appointing the likes of Kingibe, Yar 'Adua should take a cue from the accomplishments of OBJ's second term appointees so we can move this country forward. |
@egoldman Thanks for sharing your indian experience with us. I would think a country with a population of over 1 billion people would have tight labor laws in place to protect its citizens. I guess the bottom line is that the Nigerian government must make sure that companies operating in Nigeria have looked thoroughly for skilled employees within Nigerian shores before they attempt to bring people from outside the country. The federal ministry of labor, for instance, could have a job bank/database of skilled Nigerian workers such that, a company cannot bring in a worker from overseas when a worker with similar skills/knowledge exists in the job bank. |

fromuk, Watch your mouth young man ! Learn how to be civil. When I said the north would have come after OBJ, I wasn't condoning obasanjo not going after IBB, I was making a factual statement. People can't voice their opinion in a civilized manner on this forum. There is nothing about what I said that is stupid, watch your mouth. |
Wow This is very impressive. These Silverbird folks have taken real estate to a whole new level. I take it this is at Victoria Island. This is nothing short of impressive ! |
So, Ugwumba are you saying that Obasanjo's inability to recover all the monies stolen prior to 1999 means his war against corruption was a failure ? I won't use that to gauge his level of success in this initiative. Besides, going after IBB would have just pitched the whole north against him. Anyway, this is beyond the confines of this thread's subject matter. |
chidichris, Next time, read my previous post thoroughly before responding to it. I said he met 1900 MW and brought it up to 4000 MW, but it still fell short of national demand. In other words, he didn't do enough as far as power generation goes. please tell us what will be the duties of the aso rock occupants if their is nothing to be managed by governmentI really can't figure out the basis of this question. What do you mean by "if there is nothing to be managed by government" ?? Where is this coming from ? Did I say anything to this effect ? I suggest you read my post over and respond to it because what you have written has nothing to do with my post. |
if anyone is saying that ibb stole money from nigeria it means obj did not fight corruption as he claimed.IBB stole money when he was in power. What does OBJ have to do with this ? These are two different times in history he was not for one day arrested over any corruption charges.During Obasanjo's term, over $1 billion of money stolen by Abacha was repatriated back to Nigeria, yet Abacha was never arrested for corruption charges. Just because someone didn't get arrested, doesn't mean they didn't steal money. ibb and abacha were not elected and as such could not be called presidents obj as far as history will tell is the most corrupt nigerian and he remains a disappointment for not deleievering the bad state of the country which he swore to protect. So because IBB and Abacha were not elected president justifies their corruption ? It is okay for Abacha to steal over $3 billion because he was not elected president as OBJ ? Are you listening to yourself ? by the way, he was a president for eight uninterupted years as a well as the petrolium minister for seven years so what does he give back to sucha society that he hijacked the two most important positions for such a long period of time.Criticizing his policies is completely different from talking about his net worth. There are lots of threads talking about OBJ's policies, the last time I checked, this thread was about OBJ's amazing wealth. What does his being Petroleum Minister have to do with this thread ? Please stick to the thread's subject matter. |
The difference with OBJ is that most people know where his money is as his investments are less concealed, secret compared to those before him.Exactly ! How can anyone in their right mind ever say OBJ is the most corrupt leader Nigeria has ever had like I have read many times on Nairaland ? People are just saying this because they are aware of his assets. I guess IBB stole nothing from Nigeria's treasury because he doesn't have the equivalent of an Ota farm, plus, no nigerian shares can be traced to him. |
He brought GSM to Nigeria. He cleaned up the banking sector He formed the National Pension Commission - Pecom He formed the EFCC He cleaned up abuja and largely restored it to its original master plan He formed the Niger Delta Development Commission - NDDC Thirteen percent (13%) derivation for oil producing states He saw to the establishment of private universities in Nigeria Allowing the inclusion of private firms in power generation We were owing over $30 billion in 1999, now we owe around $5 billion He met $3 billion in reserves in 1999 and left $40 billion in reserves. He didn't obey court orders - withholding Lagos LG funds against court orders He neglected Lagos Abuse of power - spending funds that have not been appropriated by the National Assembly Greatest Airplane crashes in Nigeria's history He played a big role in the Anambra/Ngige scandal Lots of politically motivated killings remain unresolved He was selective in his fight against corruption - he went after Tafa Balogun, Adolphus Wabara, but has left Tony Anenih, Sule Lamido alone. |
A lot of them, not all, are unqualified. There was a guy, right here on nairaland, that was in his 4th year of computer science and said they were still running pascal programming of the 1970's ! He said they were using some outdated operating system (i think it was DOS or Windows 3.1). He said he took a programming class once where everything was written on paper, he didn't run any program on a computer. Everything was theoretical. Would you consider this type of guy qualified as a computer science graduate in today's labor market ? We have the smarts, but our schools are not equipped so they can provide the necessary skills needed at the job market. Bear in mind that it's not just the expats that are given preference, but Nigerians that graduated in foreign universities such as in the United States, Canada and the UK are given preference over our indigenous graduates. How will you catch on when you're not given a chance to work at all?.I think a lot our graduates qualify for lots of entry level positions, but not at the managerial level. A chunk of the folks coming from India and co. are bringing their experience along with them. They are not coming for entry level positions. Sooner or later, a Nigerian working at an Internet Service Provider (ISP) as an entry level personnel, would learn the ropes and become a manager (if they are not discriminating !) . Before you know it, the need for expats to fill these roles will decline. But it'll take some time. |
