The following is the guidelines on how we can embark on a 40 day fast without food, and not die but rather become mighty in the holyspirit, through it. Firstly, when it remains 7 days for you to begin a long fast, i mean a fast like that of the Prophets and Apostels and especially for the one christ ordained, you first of all give alms(matt 6:1-4) when it remains six days, you will start with a prayer of confession of sins and forgiveness for those who offended you. If they are living afar and you have to write them you must do that immediately(matt 6:14-15) you must as necessity reconcile with everybody totally. Matt 25:23-24. In the first day, you will first give thanks to God, the second day, you will begin to explain to God the reasons why you are going on long fast and set specific times for prayer, as follows 6am,9am,12noon, 3pm,6pm,9pm, 3am. On the first day, you will not drink water, ditto for the second day. But on the evening of the third day, you will drink and if you like you may drink cold or warm water. This is how you will continue to drink water from then on, you may drink thrice or four times daily. This is how you will continue until you get to the number of days you wish. God bless you. [b][/b] I used to fast for about 3 to 5 days in those days, and i usually entertain fear that i may die during those period, but when i came across one small book written by the late Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola,the founder of C.A.C and the man who caused revival in 1930. My ignorance about long fasting dissappear. What is fasting? Fasting is abstinence from food, it is a way whereby the flesh is put under. Fasting subdues the lusts of the flesh and all other evil desires. Fasing quenches the revelings of the flesh. This means you will not derive pleasure in the flesh. When the pleasures of the flesh ceases, God will move nearer us and we also move nearer him. The moment we meet him, revival begins. Fasting usually ascends to take hold of that which prayer alone cannot contain. Fasting makes the power of prayer to become fervent and broader. Fasting pleases the spirit. The flesh and the spirit are enemies to one another. Fasting will make our unanswered prayer to become answered. And nothing shall become impossible or difficult through prayer and fasing. Sorry, this is not a religious thread, however, what happened to mr speed is not far from this true testimony. Let us learn. A man of God from nigeria went to a particular country abroad, in one of his Gospel ministrations, he met a white woman complaining about his husband's terrible behaviour of always willing to commit suicide, he may take fork, knife or anything harmful, just to commit suicide. She brought her husband to the man of God for prayer, the man of God ministered to her husband to first of all accept Jesus christ into his life, after that, He was given a prayer point to pray. Later,The man of God left him. After some time, Something strange happened, this man with the thought of suicide scream, i have seen him, i have seen him,his countenance changed, the face that was gloomy became bright with a wondeful smile. What! The man of God came closer and asked him what happened, the man said he saw JESUS opened his brain spiritually and brought out a ROPE and closed the brain back to his normal position. As from that moment the thought of killing himself vanished from his life. Information from the family of this man recorded that some members of his family have died by killing themselves. That sucidal tendency has become a pattern in this particular family. So, it is possible for somebody to manifest those traits that his father, grandfather,greatgrandfather manifested when they were alive, now, if something like spiritual intervention is not done, the person may end up, the same way his father,grandfather or greatgranfather died. A lady that was about to wed on her wedding day dressed gorgeously at ijebu-ode in Ogun state, Nigeria. It happened that this particular lady, that was gorgeously dressed ran mad on her wedding day, thank God they rushed her to Mfm church, where they prayed for her and she was delivered. Later, it was discovered that the chief bridesmaid was behind the problem. May God helped us in this evil world. God is not like a substance that you put inside a test tube, and say this is how you want the result to be. God is sovereign. He decides. He has the final say. Jesus said in this world we will have tribulation, and that we should rejoice, because he has overcome the world. Fasting,praying,giving are all good christian ways of provoking answers to our prayers, but God will eventually decide when the prayer will be answered. For the past 15 to 20yrs, i have discovered that, God answers prayers in a mysterious ways, some cases, you may not even aware that God has answered your prayer, until you start seeing the manifestation, in some cases, he may comfort you by the holyspirit in your dream or through his annointed servant that he has answered your prayers. A man looked at the signboard of the logo of mountain of fire and miracles ministries(on that logo are seven tongue of fire on a dark back background) and started shouting fire,fire,fire,fire,fire,fire,fire,fire,fire, he continued to shout fire, people started gathering together, after some time, he broke down and wept, and said what am i doing here, i am a student of university of Benin. Later, people called on the pastor of the branch of that church, pastor,pastor, come o, a miracle has happened in front of your church. Thank God, the man has been healed, they dressed him up and took the man back to benin in his home. Immediately, they entered into the home of this man in benin, they discovered that her mother has suddenly become mad, the mother became mad instead of the man. As children of God and indeed for a genuine relationship which endagers righteous and holy living, one of the key elements that cannot be discountenanced is suffering. And there are handful of lessons to learn in the process of walking through the crucible. Job did not see his adversity as an opportunity for patience and for letting God mould him, Job grew in resentment toward his creator. He shot his mind to the open possibilty that he could learn something of great spiritual and physical value from his suffering. Job's exprience explain why the righteous may go through discouraging and traumatic times and be tempted to resent God for not obviously and quickly intervening on their behalf. Like Job, we too can fail to understand that God sees far more than our physical eyes can comprehend. This happened in the eastern part of Nigeria, actually, it was the man of God that gave this testimony. A sister in the Lord had hunchback, she is 41yrs old, she has been looking for husband to marry, you know because of her stigma, it is a big challenge getting somebody to marry, the hunchback has become a challenge. God helped her, she got somebody to marry, she got pregnant, on the day of delivery, no money to go to hospital, they assisted her to deliver the probably by the midwife. The first baby came out, then somebody said i see another thing, the second baby came out, again, somebody said i see something again, then the miracle happened. The hunchback of the lady came out as the third thing out of her, then the sister straightened up and the hunchback left her. It depends on the way God answers prayer. God is sovereign. He may say , yes, capital no, or wait. He has promised to answer, but a good father will not give his children what will kill him. God might have been speaking to you, through dreams or other means, if only you care to listen to his gentle voice. Then check your life, is your request in line with his will? Despite the fact, Job was upright and blameless before God, there are still some deficiency in his life as regard knowing who God really is. In chapter 38 God asked Job some questions. Let us see" Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for i will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when i laid the foundation of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath streched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? When i made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, and brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, and said, hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?" A short cut to heaven? Please, be more explicit. However, we are in a mysterious world, we need to know that, God has given us the basic information before we leave this world, that is through the Bible. Job's friend ( Eliphaz,Bildad and Zophar) wrongly accused Job that the suffering came as a result of sin. They believed Job sinned against God. In chapter 2 verse 9" Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die" The wife of Job came with another blow. Also, a young man named Elihu came with a different comments. Rather than dissipate his mental energy in trying to get at the root of Job's sufferings, Elihu probably believed that only God can make out why Job had to pass through this suffering. Read Job 32:6-8. Job himself was not left out, he asked questions, but in chapter 38 God asked Job a series of questions, it will be interesting to read those questions. Job is not an israelite, but depicted in the story to be a foreingner. The third son of Issachar. He was married to a wife who bore him seven sons and three daughters. He was a very wealthy man, although his wealth is measured in terms of livestock rather than gold and silver. Inspite of his riches and wealth, he was a righteous man, faithful to God and careful not to do anything evil. His wealth is valued at $970,000:00. The suffering of Job which is the central point of discuss came as a result of satan's accusations. He questioned Job's motive and decency and traced it to his abundant blessings from God. In other for God to prove his righteousness, God gave satan the power to test Job.

Nairalanders, let us look into the Book of Job in the Bible, if we can get an answer to this question. Job, a wealthy and upright man, lost his wealth, his children, and his health. Job did not understand why he was suffering. Why did God allow this to happen to an innocent man?
