The Kano State Government has banned persons of opposite genders from plying same commercial tricycles across the state from January, 2020, an official has announced.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje revealed this on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by Zone A of Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) held at Bayero University, Kano.

Mr Ganduje, who was represented by Commander General of Hisbah Board, Harun Ibn-Sina, said the state government is committed towards upholding Islamic values.

Commercial tricycles, popularly known as ‘A daidaita sahu’ in Kano, were introduced by a former governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau, as a means of transportation for women only.

This was after Mr Shekarau’s government banned commercial motorcyclists from conveying women.

Since Mr Shekarau’s exit as governor, however, tricycles have been allowed to carry people of both sexes, a move the state government has now said will be changed.

Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje at the event charged participants to face their studies and shun drug abuse.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how during his address at the event, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar lll, faulted the Christian Associstion of Nigeria’s reaction to a United States classification of Nigeria as one of the nations where religous freedom is not guaranteed.

In his address, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi ll, cautioned Muslims against “growing their needs beyond their resources.”

The emir attributed the increasing rate of out of school children in Muslim North to “uncontrolled polygamy and high rate of divorce.”

The Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) was attended by students of secondary schools and tertiary institutions from the 19 Northern states and Abuja.

The Presidency wishes to clarify the release on bail, of the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 elections, Omoyele Sowore.

Some international news outlets have mistakenly been describing his release as that of a journalist.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Buhari administration has never, since coming into office in 2015, detained a journalist, seized copies of newspapers or shut down a medium of information.

Sowore called for a revolution to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nigeria. He did so on television, and from a privileged position as the owner of a widely read digital newspaper run from the United States of America.

He founded an organisation, Revolution Now, to launch, in their own words, “Days of Rage”, with the publicised purpose of fomenting mass civil unrest and the elected administration’s overthrow. No government will allow anybody to openly call for destabilization in the country and do nothing.

The government believes strictly in observing the rule of law but must safeguard public security and will not allow trouble makers to incite the public and cause a breakdown of law and order.

President of Kingsway International Christian Centre Global, Matthew Ashimolowo, has said that corruption can only be reduced if there is order and a system that kills the act.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Newsnight programme, Ashimolowo stated that President Muhammadu Buhari needs subordinates that can pilot the affairs.

He said, “The President, in my own opinion, he is just like every good leader should be; must have a helicopter view of what he wants. But the microcosms should be dealt with by the subordinates under him.

“If the President says he wants a government that kills corruption, then the people around him should now come up with the systems that make corruption difficult.

“We need those who will take the vision of the President and turn it to systems so that even if you wanted to do it, you were not allowed.”

He added that despite the fact that corruption cannot be killed, it can be reduced through a system that is captured at the lower level.

Ashimolowo stated, “Wherever there is disorder, you cannot kill corruption. For you to kill corruption, you must create order and people who like corruption, hate your order.

“Corruption can be stopped, maybe not 100 per cent.”

Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, has said that the prediction of US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on the disintegration of Nigeria will come to pass if care is not taken.

The former INEC boss stated this on Wednesday while speaking at Tell Magazine’s 20 years of democracy conference in Abuja.

Recall that the CIA had predicted that Nigeria would disintegrate in 2015 following the outcome of the presidential election.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan accepted his loss to President Muhammadu Buhari, a move many said averted anarchy and saved the country.

Speaking at the conference, the former INEC chairman said the country has witnessed some “reversals” in the progress it made during the 2015 elections.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, popularly known as Shiites has justified the United State of America’s action of including Nigeria in the Special Watch List of countries with intolerance against religious freedom, saying that their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is a victim of religious persecution.

Although the Nigerian government, through the information minister Lai Mohammed had frowned at the U.S’s action, the Shi’ites spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, in a statement on Monday, said officials of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration must be held responsible for allegedly engaging in extra-judicial killings.

“If anyone deserves to be held and tried for crimes, it would be the top officials of the Buhari government who killed over a thousand unarmed citizens extrajudicially and buried them in mass graves, and have used all the might of governance to hide the truth and obstruct the course of justice,” he noted.

Mr Musa said the persecution of IMN members by the current regime was known to the international community, adding that it was a subject of a preliminary investigation by the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

“Furthermore, many local and international human rights organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Islamic Human Rights Commission have all investigated and documented the atrocities meted on members of the Islamic Movement and its leadership, purely based on their religious beliefs.

“That the ongoing persecution of the Islamic Movement has drawn the attention of the world, especially very lately, the United States government is a reality that no forms of lies by Mr Lai (Mohammed) can obliterate.”

According to the IMN, the world was not deceived by the false charges levied against Mr El-Zakzaky.

The statement read, “We, the members of the Islamic Movement and our leader, Sheikh Zakzaky are entitled to freedom of religion, association and expression like every Nigerian citizen, all of which the Buhari regime is denying us and perpetually persecuting us because of our faith and beliefs. Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky is, undoubtedly, a prisoner of faith.”

The movement admonished the government to respect the rule of law and release El-Zakzaky while calling on the public “not to relent in their efforts at denouncing the tyrannical trends of the Buhari regime.”
