godlyguy:
President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerian youths to stay and advance the cause of their motherland.

The president, who was represented by Suleiman Raman-Yusuf, the deputy executive secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), was speaking during the 44th convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife on Saturday.

“It is high time that universities took more proactive roles in ensuring that graduands perform more meaningfully in the world of works,” he said.

“It is in view of this that we wish to exhort our youths to start looking inwards, stay and advance the cause of their motherland. We have no other country than Nigeria. We should remain here to salvage the country together.”

Buhari said the future of Nigeria lies in the mode and quality of education provided to the citizenry adding that the government needs support with funding education.

He, therefore, tasked universities on the need for them to increase their internally generated revenue (IGR) to enhance sustainable education.

In his remarks, Eyitope Ogunbodede, the university’s vice-chancellor, announced that the university is currently reviewing the curricular of all academic programmes, in line with current developments and standards.

Ogunbodede added that emphasis was being placed on training job creators and not mere job seekers.

He informed the gathering that the university would no longer be dependent on the national grid, as it would soon generate its own electricity.

NAN reports that event witnessed the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on some personalities including Ibukun Awosika, Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Plc. and Benedict Oramah, President of African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK).

Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogora has assured Nigerians that the dark days and challenges currently facing the country will certainly fade away one day.

He admonished the people to be rooted in God and remained law abiding that the current season will vanished one day.

Hon. Dogara disclosed this on Sunday in Jos during the thanksgiving service and commissioning of Constituency office for member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos.

“We are all aware of the challenges in the nation, some wonder what will happen tomorrow but I want to assure you that whatever difficulties we are passing through as a nation, it is just a season and the season will pass.

“Just like Christmas will pass, the season will pass; it will not remain forever. No matter how dark the days are, a new day will break; that should be our faith, that should be our hope and we should not despair. Very soon, we will see transformation.”

Hon. Dogara urged Jos South/Jos East Constituency to uphold and pray for their representative for more wisdom, fear of God and to continue with the strides he has started.

He said frequent changes of their representatives will not give them the opportunity to produce Speaker of the House and said it was because he was reelected severally by his constituents that he became Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos said he will continue to render selfless services to his constituents in fulfillment of his campaign promises.

“I desire to work each day in touching positively several lives in my constituency. I took an oath to represent them well and that I will continue to do each until my tenure finish.”

Cardi took home $1 million for her performance in Nigerian and was allegedly paid $800,000 for her show in Accra which was preceded and plagued with a lot of drama last night.Though this information can't be verified as at the time of this report, we can assume she would not be paid any less, considering how big and global the Cardi brand is.

Meanwhile, Cardi B has apologized to the Ghanaian celebs whom she shunned to have a bite of khebab when they were waiting patiently to meet her in a Meet & Greet session, unbeknownst to her that such thing has been prearranged..

See me eating in prison, Orji Kalu tells visitor
December 14, 2019
I didn’t steal Abia’s N7.2b, says Kalu
FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedInWhatsAppEmail

THIS is a classic instance of the instability of human conditions. At the age of 20, he had become a millionaire at a time the naira was worth more than the dollar. At 26, he became the youngest Nigerian to receive the National Merit Award during the Ibrahim Babangida-led military administration in 1986.

Orji Uzor Kalu became the governor of Abia State when he was not yet 40 and ruled the state for eight years between 1999 and 2007. He capped a life on the fast lane with his recent election as the senator representing Abia North, eventually emerging as the Chief Whip in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

But all that took a dramatic turn penultimate Thursday with his conviction by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court which sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment for N7.65 billion fraud while he held sway as Abia State governor.

Although he has become a prison inmate since then, Sentry gathered that the reality of his new condition did not dawn on him until some of his associates began to visit him in the prison. Recall that the former governor reportedly asked the prison officials who led him out of the court after the judge pronounced his conviction: “Where are we going now?”

A few days after he landed in prison, one of his business associates was said to have paid him a sympathy visit but was shocked at the pitiable picture cut by the former governor, who was said to be wearing a pair of bathroom slippers.

“See me now eating in the prison,” a pensive Kalu reportedly told his visitor, who struggled to find the words that could console him. An erstwhile colleague of his as governor, who spent some time in incarceration, also visited him. The flamboyant ex-governor advised him to stay strong and regard his travails as another phase of life.

Sentry gathered that the former Abia State governor has been moved from Lagos to the Kuje Prison in Abuja for reasons no one could fathom.

While reading the lead judgment, Justice Adah stated that the proceedings of the CCT shouldn’t have been conducted “in a shady or clandestine manoeuvre” the way the ex parte order was obtained by the prosecution.

However, the court said it could not upturn Onnoghen’s conviction since the trial had already taken place.

A source said, “Even though the NJC (National Judicial Council) recommended that Onnoghen should be paid his benefits in full, I can tell you that he has not been paid anything and all his allowances have stopped.

“His accounts remain frozen. It was some judges who even contributed money for him recently for medicals expenses.

“I was told that his ordeal might be connected with his decision to challenge his conviction at the Court of Appeal which the government of the day might have found embarrassing because the Court of Appeal accused them of depriving Onnoghen of a fair hearing.”

Onnoghen, who was CJN from March 1, 2017 to April 5, 2019, was suspended by Buhari in January, a few weeks to the presidential election, on allegations that he failed to declare five bank accounts in his asset declaration form at the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Buhari hinged his decision to suspend Onnoghen on an ex parte order by the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar.

Onnoghen’s many attempts to stop his trial were futile.

He also faced a mini-trial at the NJC where the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission presented evidence against him.

The NJC subsequently recommended his retirement with full benefits and Onnoghen immediately complied and tendered his resignation before Buhari on April 5.

However, his resignation letter was not acknowledged by the buhari regime until his conviction by the CCT on May 28.

The CCT ordered Onnoghen’s sacking and barred him from holding public office for 10 years.

It also ordered that the sums of money in different currencies found in his Standard Chartered Bank accounts, a total of N46m, be forfeited to the Buhari regime

The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has been barred from travelling out of the country by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Saturday PUNCH reports that the move may be part of a fresh probe into Onnoghen’s affairs. Onnoghen was convicted for not declaring his assets by the Code of Conduct Tribunal in April

An internal report issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service, which was read out to our correspondent by a top officer, stated that Onnoghen, his wife and daughter were attempting to travel to Accra, Ghana when they were accosted by immigration officers.

The report stated, “On November 11, 2019, retired Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, was attempting to travel to Accra, Ghana. He was in company with his wife, Nkoyo, and daughter.

“His passport, with number A50445233, was flagged because Justice Onnoghen’s name was on the watch list. The passport is currently in custody of the NIS.”

The senior officer told Saturday PUNCH that the passport seized from Onnoghen was not a diplomatic passport but the ordinary green passport.

The immigration officer told our correspondent that the directive to seize Onnoghen’s passport came from the Presidency.

“Justice Onnoghen will have to meet with the Presidency to know why his passport was seized. We are only following instructions,” the officer said.

Those pix in there shows that Calabar is ever beautiful
chibaby1985:
The Old Residency Museum, the First Aso Rock in Nigeria that housed the offices of Lord Lugard and other early administrators and colonial officials of Nigeria are still intact in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

You can still see the massive offices that served as Nigeria’s first ‘Aso Rock’, where both the Northern and Southern Protectorate of Nigeria were administered from before it was amalgamated by the same Lord Lugard in 1914.

Materials used in erecting the structure, were all brought in from Britain by the Royal Niger Company, with the experts to build it. The one-storey edifice was built in 1884 in Old Calabar. Now called Old Residency, it was originally known as the Government House, and it accommodated the early British administrators of the Niger coast territories.

The Old Residency is situated between the residence of the State Chief Judge and the official residence of the deputy governor, and with presidential lodge in front. The building, in 1950, also served as ministerial guest house. After the Nigerian Civil War, the Old Residency accommodated offices of the then new South Eastern States of Nigeria.

The building was declared a national monument in 1959 and has been renovated over time by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in 1986.

Credit is given to Dr. Ekpo O. Eyo, the first Nigerian who became Director of Antiquities of the commission and later Director General in 1968 till 1986 by which time the place was open to the public. He influenced the retention and upgrade of the Old Residency to present national status.

The pioneer surveyor of antiquities at the commission, a Briton, was Mr Kenneth C. Murray from 1943 to 1968.

Curator of the museum, Mrs Evelyn Osuagwu said the first man that occupied it was one Consul Hewett, who now has a street named after him in Calabar. She said the Old Residency is now used as a national museum, adding that after Hewett, many other colonial administrators and key government functionaries had offices and lived there with their families.

The Curator said that the museum was the first tourism site in Calabar, which attracted thousands of visitors therein. She explained that the museum also showcases the culture of Nigeria and historical artefacts.

“We keep antiquities and ancient things that have values. We collect things that have values and that include educational, scientific and ancient values.

“We also have a research department whereby we research into people’s culture and showcase to our visitors.

“Today, the museum is a tourists site, attracting thousands of visitors who wants to sight the the items and machineries used in the colonial era,” she said.
History lives in Nigeria’s first Aso Rock, the old Residency Calabar.

If you are thinking of tourism, think Cross River.
