The Governor of Edo State yesterday at State House issue a stern cautious statement to Oshiomole and his camp as regarding the progress of Edo State and the APC in the state... Below are his statement:

“Can you imagine a national chairman that is creating problems in his own house? Because of that, we had to suspend him and he remains suspended. We pray that God should have mercy on him because he has done something bad against God and the people of Edo State. He should find his way back into the party and apologise to all.

“If he comes back remorseful and apologetic, we will consider taking him back.”

“If you cannot be a disciplined member of the party, you will leave, whether you are a national chairman or not,” he stated.

“He cancelled the primaries that were done by the party at the state level for the 2019 general elections and did his own. Because he could not control us at the executive, he manipulated the legislature so that he can use the House of Assembly to impeach us.”

“Oshiomhole thought he was setting a trap when he chose Philip Shaibu as my deputy and Osarodion Ogie as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He thought we will always quarrel, fight and then run to him for settlement.”
“If you behave like a godfather, we will fight you.”

A mild but funny drama played out on Thursday at Eko Hotel In Victoria Island between two of Nigeria’s giants in the Music industry, Davido and Olamide at Kizz Daniels concert. Both artistes were invited to perform at the event when Davido walked past Olamide, oblivious of his presence.

YBNL boss, Olamide had just finished performing on stage and he was making way out of the hotel when the DMW boss and his gang arrived. The indigenous rapper called out to the singer immediately after he sighted him but the latter didn’t even respond.

Olamide ran after the ‘Risky crooner’, holding his shirt to make him stop which he eventually did. At the end, both artistes exchanged hugs and chatted for a while.

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is no longer a member of the ruling party.

According to Obaseki, President Muhammadu Buhari, had also directed the Edo State chapter of the party to deal with the pro-Oshiomhole Edo Progressive Movement and the former Governor for anti-party activity.

The Governor was quoted to have said this at a rally of the APC members from the Owan East and West Local Government Areas in Sabogida-Ora earlier, yesterday.

A Nigerian immigrant in the United States, Anthony Akinyemi, has been reported dead 24 hours after he arrived at a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in the Mid-Atlantic state of Maryland.

Mr Akinyemi, 56, died on Saturday after he was found unresponsive in his prison cell at the Worcester County Jail in Snow Hill, Maryland, the ICE said in a statement made available to APO, a public relations firm on Wednesday.

According to the report, the official cause of death was not immediately determined, but authorities believe Mr Akinyemi killed himself less than 24 hours after he arrived at the ICE custody.

Officials at the ICE also said late Mr Akinyemi entered the U.S. lawfully on a non-immigrant visa in 2017 but did not comply with the terms of his admission.

The late Nigerian was also said to have been charged with sexual abuse of a minor and was convicted last week in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Many Nigerian travellers have been found to overstay their visas in the U.S.

PREMIUM TIMES in May reported a U.S report that stated that an estimated 29,723 Nigerian immigrants living in the United States overstayed their U.S. non-immigrant tourism/business (B1/B2) visas between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018.

The report, titled: “The fiscal Year 2018 Entry/Exit Overstay Report” and prepared by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said the Nigerian immigrants, who entered the United States legally, refused to leave the country after their visas expired.

One too many deaths in ICE custody

The deaths of immigrants in U.S. detention centres has been of concern to rights agencies.

The Human Righ Watch in October reported the death of two immigrants: Roylán Hernández-Díaz, a 43-year-old from Cuba, who died in a detention center in Richwood, Louisiana; and an asylum seeker from Cameroon, Nabene Abienwi, who was reported to have died in ICE custody in California nine days before the death of the Cuban.

The late Hernández-Díaz’s death drew controversies after he came to a U.S. port of entry on May 20 and entered ICE custody two days later to apply for asylum because he had spoken out against the Cuban government.
