I am less concerned of him rejecting those awards but his arrogance and purported legendary figure which I can't see from his works. I still stand on my ground that he is a great writer but there is no an iota of evidence to prove he is a legend even within his own folks. To me he's overrated though.
@Ten Kobo
That is not activism but show of pride. Activism is engaging not just rejection of an award - in this case was for the list of those filed up for the awards not to disapprove of his discontentment with the govt which he has not exhibited until now. I would like to see some instances of his activism during the regime of our former dictators.
@Baawaa
It's all his own choice to be reckoned with. Does that bother me? Hell no!But, it shouldn't be treated as an excuse for activism. That's where I don't always agree with people on issues concerning this famous author. I do not know you, but will swear that you are yoruba from what you have said. Tribalism does not pay. 9jaganja: I seldom start threads or rant on here but sometimes when you've been thinking too much, your thought process maybe subconsciously threading the wrong path because you didn't check it with an external view,
Jonathan's ascend to power is very very sketchy from the very beginning. Alams going to jail, Jones taking over, Y'aradua going to his grave, Jonathan taking over. It all look designed as reality is not fairy tails.
Nigerian military helped the violence in Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc, Are you telling me the same military doesn't know how to tackle these Boko Haram people?
Our president is calling for foreign help on everything including mossad security? Now the rumour is calling for US military help when we have a military that helped where the USA wouldn't?
The last person to ruin our economy before 1999 was babangida and his measures were also, subsidy removal, devaluing the currency etc, same path Jonathan is going and some people wonder why he called IBB mentor?
When IBB made his intention to run for office known, he was visited by American "diplomats" IBB is an American puppet and they liked the way he "ruled" and IBB did his job well, Same IBB is who Jonathan called his mentor,
Jonathan is not clueless. If he is, he is by design, When you want to destroy a company, you make it very ineffective first. Jonathan is making it look like he doesn't know how to do it so his masters can offer "help",
Okonjo Iweala, a world bank puppet that ran the third world into debt in the 21st century is now our whatever her post in finance is in Nigeria. Iweala who was voicing about Jonathan's budget being fraudulent due to recurring expenditures from contracts awarded and paid for being re awarded, This same woman is quiet about it,
Olusegun Aganga of Goldman Sachs. @ the mention of Goldman sachs, people already know what it do, How can such a fraudulent thief exec be in any fragile post in Nigeria?
The above two failures on a global scale are now in key positions in Nigeria's government. One of them is pushing for sovereign wealth fund; now their wallstreet masters wants to do something with that fund,
These two failures are corporate puppets and now look where they are. In Nigeria, One of the failures wanted to be paid in $$, Haven't we done enough to help the $$ value? Our corrupt politicians are already making the $$ beat naira in every way possible reducing our purchasing/bargaining power,
Ain't nothing I say a law so pleeaassee leave your flame behind your fingers and let's talk, Explain you opinion please don't just say yes or no, Also, leave your sentiments in your heart; don't bring them to your phalanges while you type. thanks Believe me you are very right. You understand where we are and where we are probable heading to. I saw all these before the election and that was why I worked and voted for Buhari. All the people that have ruled me and you, not only in Nigeria but in all African nations are western stooges. They are all programmed to ruin us for the benefit of the Western powers. IBB was helped to power. Muritala was killed by a plot that originated from CIA. Buhari/Idiagbon was eased out of power by a plot helped by the Saudis via America. Tafawa Belawa was imposed on us through a British mediated agreement between Zik and Saduana. GEF the biggest mumu was helped to power thanks to Obama that encouraged him to contest. So was Thomas Sankara killed in Bukina Faso. So was Patrick Lumumba eased out of power in early 1960s, CIA agents ensured he was killed, Mobutu Seseko imposed to destroy Zaire. So have they removed Gadafi and Libya is beginning to boil. So have they pallyied Mugabe to prevent a just land redistribution in Zimbabwe until represented and they choose to destroy his country's economy in retaliation. Have we taken a look at that their stooge that is challenging Mugabe to see who he is? So was Apartheid supported in South Africa until their stand became untenable. So was Haiti destroyed with an unjust economic embargo when they choose to rise against French colonial powers. This is the fate of the blackman. This is our fate. Our people have been deeply brainwashed with the type of school we all went to. We have been brainwashed by the churches we go to. We have been brainwashed by the Media we are exposed to. We have been brainwashed by the civilisation we have adopted. We have lost our culture. Our identity is gone. Unless we get this, our nation and our people will never be free. The best leaders can be found in any part of the country, gentlemen. It shows how useless our leaders and people have become that someone will post this topic. I wonder why the moderators allowed this.
For the posters information, the best leadership material I can lay my hands on presently in Nigeria is from the NORTH.
He is no other person than Sanusi Lamido(the present CBN Governor).
I say this not because I agree with most of his economics policies ideologically, but I have seen he is PATRIOTIC AND FEARLESS. That is the leader Nigeria needs. We need a Putin in Nigeria. Someone that can be guided at all times by the greater interest of Nigeria. Someone that can look anybody in the eye and say the truth.
I am Igbo, except maybe Ngige, I don't see any good Presidential material in the East. Except oldman Tam David West, none from the South South. I cannot presently get any from the South West (Fashola has disappointed me by allowing Tinubu to mislead him).

Politics › Re: Boko Haram Is Fighting A Jihad, Nigerians Should Wake Up! by Godmann(m): 8:44pm On Nov 09, 2011 |
tyson55: Nigeria continues to grabble unimpressively with the threat of Boko Haram. The recent killing of more than 67 people in the north marks a worrying escalation of this smouldering conflict between the forces of ignorance and knowledge that demands appropriate response by the government and people of Nigeria. This attack certainly marks a worsening escalation of the crisis which no well-meaning Nigeria can ignore. What Boko Haram wants to achieve is to desensitize Nigerians with violence and blunt their revulsion with fear. It is intriguing that the terrorist activities by Boko Haram coincided with the election of Goodluck Jonathan (an infidel) as the president of Nigeria. Even though Boko Haram indiscriminate attacks affects Muslims, the condemnation of the Islamic leadership in Nigeria has been at best Muted. Rather they have been in the forefront to protect them from law by negotiating amnesty for the members of the grough arrested by the security forces.
Typically Nigerians, have resulted to fasting and praying instead of articulating an appropriate response to what is my all means a declaration of war against her. I write because the great majority of Nigerians cannot continue to inhibit a country with people whose aim is to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of the country by force. All it would take for Nigeria to fall apart is for the different ethnic groups to establish their own militias to respond with terror on Islamic targets. As many people have said, the sponsors of this Islamic militant group should understand that no religion or group of people has monopoly of violence.
Violence is a primitive response to problems, there is a better way. This problem is probably the greatest problem Nigeria has had to face since the Biafra civil war, and the government appears to be prevaricating without any clear strategy to address the threat it poses to the existence of the country. Government apparent inaction has emboldened the Islamists with devastating consequence for the people. At the moment it has caused capital flights from Nigeria as many companies have relocated from Nigeria to neighbouring African countries and many countries are thinking of moving their Embassies back to Lagos or outside Nigeria. If the government does not quickly regain the initiative and confidence of the people in its ability to protect and defend them, it will become increasingly difficult to persuade the other parts of Nigeria to continue to be part a country where some people are determined to prevail by violence.
Nigerians, especially Christians, do not seem to full understand that Boko Haram justifies its terror with the Quran which is why those who present themselves as moderate Muslims often find it difficult to condemn them. Muslims claim that Islam is a religion of peace and they believe that they have the truth while all others are in the wrong. However, time and time again, the evidence does not seem to support this. Non-Muslims do not seem to realise that at the centre of Islam are a set of fixed impervious beliefs that offer justification for what Boko Haram are doing in Nigeria and give them impetus for their evils This very violent and sinister face of Islam is intolerant of descent and rejects plurality of views. Until all religious people accept that there is no justification whatever for a human beings to resort to terror, intimidation, violence and killings; and that all justifications of war in the name of God or Allah are work of some unenlightened primitive and ancient minds who contributed to the scriptures: religion will continue to be a laughing stalk toenlightened men who see clearly its contradictions, ignorance and delusions.
The fact is that Islam is waging a jihad in Nigeria and it is convenient and strategic for it to claim that Boko Haram is a radical fundamentalist group. The aim of this Jihad is to impose a Taliban type government (Islamic State) in Nigeria, or make Nigeria ungovernable if they are unable to gain power. I am at lost as to why Nigerians appears unable to see that Islam is just continuing what it started in Zamfara state. They feel that it is only by violence that they can prevail in the rest of Nigeria. They believe that Nigeria is a pagan nation which Allah wants them to Islamise. These conclusions are based on the following teachings in the Holy Qur'an. In Sura 9:123, and 66:9, Muslims are enjoined to "Make war on the infidels who dwell around you." In Sura 48:29, Muslims are required to "Be ruthless to the infidels," while another injunction in Sura 4:101 declares that "Infidels are your sworn enemies". The Islamic definition of infidel appears to simply mean non-Muslims. Muslims believe that Christians are “infidels" because they do not pray like Muslims and eat pork unaware that there are Christian groups who share the same core beliefs with them is this area. History tells us that Islam only tolerates other religions until it can conqure or eliminate them by violence and this happens once they get political power. The evidence is before us in what is happening to Christian and members of other religions in all Islamic states (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia etc.). Perhaps it is this apparent inability of Christians to read the world and articulate appropriate response which made Jesus to lament that the children of this world are in their generation, wiser than the children of light.
Islam can only tolerate with disdain what it does not approve of, and is incapable of accepting differences. This is what makes it an intolerant religion. In spite of this, Muslims claim that Islam is a religion of peace. No religion can claim to be a peaceful religion, if it urges its adherents to kill unbelievers and justifies violence and terror. This is a clear incontrovertible evidence that Islam is an intolerant, violent religion whose aim is world domination, and why all over the world (In Philippines, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Nigeria etc.)Fundamentalist Islamic groups are fighting to take over governments. They are actively using religion as a political vehicle to acquire power. Islam is about power, money and domination. They seek political power so that they can enforce their religious beliefs on people against their will because they believe that theirs is the true religion. The religion appears to have no place for freedom of choice and conscience which Christianity holds very dear. This is why it is difficult for Islamic countries to guarantee Christians freedom of worship and beliefs while Muslims enjoy and often abuse such freedoms in western democracies funded on Christian principles and beliefs. It is a religion that persecutes its opponents. it would appear that they took literally Machiavelli’s assertion that ‘a prophet who does not bear arms come to ruin’.
Contrast the above quotes from Qur’an with the following quotes from the Bible, Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God (Matt. 5:9); you are the light of the world… (Matthew5:14). But I say unto you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the cheek offer the other also ;…( Luke: 6:27-36), ‘Do not judge others so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by the standard of measure, it will be measured for you’…(Matthew7:1-2), ‘ You have heard that it is said, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR and hate your enemy’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your father who is in heaven’ Matthew 5:43-45); and the religion of peace will become clear. This is why there are no fundamentalist Christian groups fighting to take over governments. Christianity is not about power, domination of others and prevailing by force, but about, serving and loving others and ones enemies. There is no place in Christianity for any teaching that justifies violence. The eternal principle of God is to overcome evil with good because God knows that nothing is stronger than love and that love overcomes all things. Having said these, some of my best friends are Muslims which gives credence to my view of religion that religion has great capacity for evil in certain minds.
Nigerian should wake up to the magnitude of the challenge this intolerant and extreme attitude to life continues poses to its existence. Members of Boko Haram believes that they are carrying out the will of Allah when they bomb buildings and kill innocent children, women, pregnant women, elderly people and disabled people. This is their own understanding and making them to understand the evils of their beliefs is a herculean task because they can justify their evil and monstrous beliefs, attitude and actions from the Quran. You can begin to see how religion can destroy logical reasoning. Muslims like it when Boko Haram is described as fundamentalist sect of Islam. They are not. They are simply the military wing of Islam. Until the world realises that Islam is at war with it, it will not articulate appropriate response to the threat the religion poses to freedom of choice and conscience and equality of all before the law. Boko Haram is waging a Jihad in Nigeria and those who think that it will respond to reconciliatory dialogue are misguided if not naïve.
Nigerians must hold on to the freedom we have gained from the forces of oppression and continue to fight more. The battle has just begun. Freedom elsewhere is a threat to tyranny everywhere. It gives the oppressed hope of what is possible and indicts the tyrant that he is evil and wrong. Nigerians cannot fail to address the role of religious intolerance, ignorance, delusions and misconceptions at the root of its current conflict and woes. It is time for her to accept that only light can banish darkness, knowledge, ignorance and misconception; and treatment delusions. Religious fanatics must first understand before they can think about their beliefs and assumptions. Beliefs no matter how firmly held, can be shaken by truth and knowledge. This is the battle of the mind which must be fought alongside any other effort to rid Nigeria of intolerance, religious delusions and primitive attitudes that threatens its peace. I hope Nigerians understand the magnitude of the problems we have to confront and that our corrupt leaders are equal to the task. God bless Nigeria

Now that they have told us they want to increase fuel price come January, can we start planing a counter measure? Can Nairaland forum stand and be counted as the forum that laid the foundation for the liberation of Nigeria?
How do we start?
Let start planing on a march in Lagos come January if they dare increase fuel price? Let go about printing polo's, cap's etc. for protest come January. Just a peaceful protest like the one happening in US. The business men among us can even make a small living out the sales from the protest items.
Thank God the ACN opposition party will find it convenient to protect us.

igbo2011: BRICS are the next emerging market economics. Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Russia might leave this group because they aren't growing as fast and Indonesia might join the list. Nigeria is set to overtake South Africa so they might leave too.
Nigeria is a country that is growing fast, it is set to be the fastest growing economy over the next 40 years. Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/fastest-growing-economies-2011-2#1-nigeria-10 We are projected to be the number 6 economy by 2050 Source: http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/2011/02/2050-ad-india1-japan-9/ There are also articles about this here is one: http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5680398-182/story.csp
If Nigeria joins BRICS that means that more investors will invest in Nigeria. They will set up shop and give people jobs or start doing more trading in the country. Many youths need jobs so they will be able to get them. With investment comes taxes so this will help the government raise revenue which will help the people of Nigeria. Nigeria's economy is comparable to Indonesia's. If they can make it then so can we. What do you people think about this? You do not join by mouth. You join by being serious. You aren't growing anything. Forget the lies. Look around your streets and villages and see if there are any evidence of growth. You are dumb to believe lying Aso-Rock. We have heard those stories for ages. Open your eyes dear. First thing first. Get the right leadership. |

I declare myself ready and willing.
My only condition is that we must get other 999,999
Because in my estimation, it takes just that number to sack the idiots.
If they choose to kill some, let me be the first to be killed so long as we sack them! |

prince4lif: I woke up on the morning of October 1st and reflected on the blessings of Nigerian and why we still suffer this much, we are said to be a great nation, yes we are, our greatness is in us all as a people and the blessings God has bestowed upon our dear nation, but it's unfortunate that the SONS OF PERDITION among us who have re-branded themselves as politicians, came to rule us with the vision of their father the devil, they are thieves just as the bible has said, the thief only come to steal, kill and destroy, but I know by the grace of God it won't be long before the creator of heaven and earth brings judgement on them, the blood and souls of all innocent Nigerians who dies due to neglect or inadequate facilities or because of poverty will definitely hunt them. I am proud to say that Nigerians are naturally hard working and intelligent and this is why we have been able to survive in the hands of our greedy leaders, if we were like the Libyans who wait on the government on everything and don't work but yet receive a social security of about $400 per family every month then we would have resulted to into brutal war. Politicians in government are committing more crimes than ordinary citizens. Frustration and poverty has forced so many Nigerians out of their homes and we have a government who doesn't care, I live in Ghana and I can see the difference is clear, I have lived in Europe I see how people are being treated especially when in need and and in times of emergency, this bloody politicians travel abroad everyday and see the difference but can't tell why they will never implement policies that will change the lives of their people, they spend our money as if it's their inheritance, MAY GOD PUNISH EVERY SELF CENTERED AND FRAUDULENT POLITICIAN, their generation will suffer for all the harm they caused our great country and above all they will use all the money they stole from us to treat incurable diseases, CANCER AND STROKE shall be their portion. Even the bible says "Righteousness exalts a nation and sins a reproach to every nation". Oh God of heaven avenge our course and deliver us from blood sucking and greedy politicians, Let the words of the national anthem and oat they swore on assumption of office hunt them and their family. Amen!!!
GOD YOU HAVE ALREADY BLESS NIGERIA, MY PRAYER IS THAT YOU NOW DELIVER NIGERIA! AMEN |

jarkbauer: first we need to compare the per-capita incomes of these countries US $47,200 (2010 est.) UK $34,800 (2010 est.) NGR $2,500 (2010 est.) Now we see that comparing us/uk in term of economic responsibilities is unfair.subsidy removal is feature of capitalism. US/UK can practise capitalism because they are wealthy and the govts are more responsible.the case is different in nigeria while many of her citizen live below the poverty line, the govt is irresponsible thereby making mixed type(mixture of welfarism and capitalism) of govt the only option. do you know to see a GP in US clinic if not insured costs abt $200 so shld we tell nigerians to pay 30k to see a doctor? if govt wants to remove subsidy they must provide good roads and good public transport free health care free and good public schools electricity(so u wont buy generator) etc You got it. ours is an irresponsible government. |
