Sorry please read and comprehend my post again. I never said u shouldn't respect elders, I said respect is reciprocal. Elders should respect the younger once.

Even the bible teaches that parents should also respect their children and not provoke them to wrath but yoruba parents and elders do provoke younger once all because they are elders.. So many ignorant people here. When you are in camp, you are as good as a potential soldier under recruit. Until the passing out day, those soldiers are superior to you. I don't know what kind of beating was involved. Pictures woulds have helped. Hoping the reported is not demonstrating hyperbole. However, if the level of stubbornness of the corp members constituted an assault on the authorities within the camp, you fit see anything. After camp, corp member are treated with the regard given to a lieutenant in the army. I served in the barracks and was informed by military officers. Recall your oat if you have taken one - you are there to pay the supreme price (death) should circumstance call for it. Your University certificate means nothing in the camp. The only thing that makes you different from a recruit foot soldier is that you are not been trained to shoot. Else, same same.

The education ministry of Nigeria or whatever section of the government responsible for this mandatory one-year bullsh*t called Youth Service should remove it from the academic system. It is very military in nature and doesn't look like a modern approach to those who acquired knowledge. We aren't living in the world of physical approach to activities any more but of technology, intelligence,etc. The ones with better intelligence win the race not physical strength. Why do Nigeria always like stress and unintelligent processes. As if the educated youths are in the communist North Korea. I can clearly see one of the reasons the Nigerian army is so unprofessional. Ptui!

Plz, just go there, be a mugu for 3 weeks, and move on with your life.
If u don't disobey orders, u'll enjoy camp.
Camp is enjoyable.......once-in-a-lifetime chance to live n mix up with all ethnic groups at the same time.........u'll never get that chance again.
There are some spoilt kids who are not used to obeying orders ........they find it hard when they get to camp.

Bros it's better than face the hard life of Nigeria for 6k per month. Look am a prey nysc person and will be going for service in June. Since I graduated, I attached myself to a magazine company and they made me the deputy editor cus am the only real journalist and I can write articles and news very well. They used to copy paste articles but as soon as I came I wrote all myself, they gave me a well furnished office with computer. People have been calling to commend the new guy(me). Do you know how much am being paid? 10k per month. Am the last kid in the family and now no one listens to my cry when I need money. They will say o boy you are now working so fend for yourself. All my salary goes to transportation and upkeep and no savings. I only needed the experience though cus I will be going for nysc soon. So tell me if I was a full time employee earning so low how would I have coped? I

Most schools do not pay their teachers less than 18k, simply because that's the minimum wage. But then, I have also heard of graduates earning ridiculous amounts as Salaries. Most people who opt to do these jobs simply do it to escape the 'shame' of sitting at home and to at least have some money to spend at the end of the month.
But then, if one decides to work and get paid 10k per month, how then will you have the time to search for better jobs...Hmmmn, again, if you refuse the low wage, and you don't get a better job, how will you make money to fend for yourself.

The situation is pathetic and sad, I really wish our leaders and those that steal us blind have a change of heart.

Funny how we don't value what we have. Some Nigerian schools would rather substitute Yoruba language for some "Ede elede ta o gbo tan fi tipatipa ko wa" such as French. lol. Many Independent schools are guilty of this.

I remember when I was an undergraduate at OAU, some Chinese students and some dudes from Sweden came to study and learn about the Yoruba culture, they were always happy to relate with the black students and also exude so much joy anytime they were relating with the locals, especially the market women. This country is really great.
