seunmsg: I hope those calling for the break-up of Nigeria can learn from this scottish referendum. Scotland is far more developed than most of the geo political zones clamouring for independence in Nigeria and still, they voted to remain part of the United Kingdom. If we put our acts together as a country, we are far better off as one big united country. Nigeria must remain a big, united and indivisible union. All we need to make it work is to vote for good leaders based on merit and not tribal/ religious sentiment. Nigeria was never meant to be. It was created by foreigners. The minor and major tribes in Nigeria didn't hold a meeting of unity. Nigeria was imposed on the tribes. |

ritux: Well for me, there is no way I will buy a car worth 24M without first owning my own house. I keep trying to figure out why some people (not Linda) drive big cars and leave in rented apartment. The other day, I went to visit a friend in some compound with a 3 blocks of one story building consisting of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom flats. On the parking lot, I saw so many exotic cars, range rovers, jaguar, g-wagon etc parked. What came to my mind first was, why won't one drive these expensive cars and still live in a rented flat.
Finally, I concluded that maybe I am wrong...they might have built some houses somewhere in other parts of the country. Some might have built houses in other parts of the country. Some want to live a false life. Some want to package themselves as been wealthy. Some are living on loan. e.t.c |

Kirinwa: Wrong priority: With 2 million you can buy a brand new car, 2 million get married, 10 million buy a land and build duplex. Remaining 10 million change.
You can invest 7 million, give 1 million to charity and leave 2 million in bank.
After blowing up her money now, you guys will ask us to donate for her like OJB Jezreel or Ngozi- not that I wish her ill o.
Once that car leaves that car mart it is second hand and would rarely go beyond 10 million. Car is a liability not an asset. She makes at least N3million monthly... She'll make the N24million back in less than 8 months. Stop behaving like u won't do more than her if u more than enough money. Besides she already owns at least one house. |

BlackTechnology: I understand asset in terms of basic accounting/economics
But note
Some definitions were defined years ago with little subjection to real life economic challenges
That is why we update our definitions with time when we see their incompleteness.
Is like you saying your TV is an asset
If banks do accept assets as collateral
Will any bank accept your TV as a collateral.? No
The only reason banks will accept your house as an asset that can be used as collateral is because it is assumed that the land beneath it will always appreciate in value with time.
Now to the topic
Akwa Ibom spent xbillion naira to build a stadium The questions the governor should have asked himself are
, How much will the stadium generate.? Will the profit be sufficient to maintain it.? Will it have a much desired socio-financial impact on at least 50% of indigenes.?
If the answer is no,
what he would have done if he still wants to build the stadium for beautification of Uyo is to acquire assets whose cash flows are sufficient to maintain the stadium
Why
Because the stadium will need maintenance and the next set of governments might not be stadium conscious.
Or
He focuses on other projects that will lift the ordinary indigenes out of poverty since it is well known that a large number Akwa Ibom people are house helps etc
What are those projects
Education but he failed in ensuring that teachers salaries are paid constant
Microcredit facilities but the commissioner did not mentioned it
Others which he never mentioned. this your opinion is long.... it depends on the type of tv, so banks will still accept it depending on the value of the tv but it is wiser to use... but in cases of economic meltdown where the value of houses reduce... banks will not accept it that's what led to the fall of banks worldwide which also led to a global economic meltdown in 2008/2009. back to the topic: all the govt needs is to generate income from different means... |

BlackTechnology: If it puts money into your pocket it is an asset But if it takes money out of your pocket it is a liability
The only other time when a liability house becomes an asset house is when it is sold.

BlackTechnology: His words: “When you are talking about allocation of N135.84 billion, it sounds big to you, but it is not a lot of money when you are doing key projects. When you look at projects like the new international stadium, these are not bread and butter projects. These are quality projects that cost money.
“You don’t build flyovers with N1 or N2. You don’t build underground tunnels with N2; you don’t dualize federal roads with N2; you build them with billions, so you put these monies into big projects. So, the states you are mentioning, are they able to do these types of projects?”
Every good state government desire to transform their states into a mini America. This causing them to build beautiful infrastructure as fulfilment of their dream
But one challenge we face is in balancing infrastructural development and financial empowerment of indigenes with limited resources.
SOLUTION TO THIS DILEMMA
1) Invest in profitable ventures and infrastructures first then
2) Use the profits and low taxes to obtain and clear loans for infrastructures that generate little or no income. Eg Schools Hospitals Stadiums Roads Bridges etc.
" Prepare your fields(assets) first after that build your house(liability) " PROVERBS 24: 27
Asset which is what puts money into your pocket should come first before liability which is what takes away money from your pocket
For every liability built, they should be assets whose incomes can sustain it
The Stadium which profitable ventures are sustaining its maintenance and loan if it was built with borrowed money
Likewise other infrastructures
Akwa Ibom govt you failed in this aspect. Pls don't teach people nonsense. A house is an asset. |

Jarus: I shared same sentiments in an article I wrote last year, titled: Excuse me, Mr Self Employment Advocate. http://www.jarushub.com/excuse-me-mr-self-employment-advocate/
Some people make it seem as if being in salaried job is a crime. I don't believe that trash. We are called names such as "slaves", only that some of these "entrepreneurs" will come back to beg you doing "slavery jobs" for money at the end of the month.
I don't have any problem with self-employment, entrepreneurship or whatever it is called, but the advocates overdo it. Not everyone is cut out for self-employment. There will always be people doing salaried jobs. you are wrong... because of your naija mentality cos in naija when the term entrepreneur is brought up only "one person" comes to mind. You should know that most companies are started by a group of people with "one person" as the public and media figure. Get your facts right... |
Business › Re: Why I Think Being An Entrepreneur Is Over-hyped by GodMode: 1:21pm On Sep 15, 2014 |
INDESTRUCTABLEX: And to those calling me dumb, you are entitled to your opinion.
I never said being Bill Gates makes you an entrepreneur. But you will agree that these men are risk takers and innovative.
Go to universities, you will lose count of the number of "be your own boss seminars". While these may motivate you to act, the truth is that not everybody will act. The number of those that act and quit afterwards because things don't come easy is relatively high. Does this make you an entrepreneur?
IMO sitting down and doing nothing doesn't make you an entrepreneur, neither does being skeptical and sitting on defence make you one.
And like one of the comments, the definition is subject to personal interpretation. You are very dull... U're probably a teenager cos your mind set is messed up. Steve Jobs was someone who only sat down and brought ideas. He never created anything. People brought his ideas to life for him but as long as it was his idea he took all the praises. |

INDESTRUCTABLEX: Not everybody is meant to be an entrepreneur. And a lot of people that call themselves entrepreneurs are sellers and hustlers. The title is so being misused, that's my point. The more entrepreneurs in a country the lower the rate of un-employment. There are low-income entrepreneurs Medium-income entrepreneurs High-income entrepreneurs The term is not been misused... Its your level of understanding that's affecting your reasoning. |
