tkObserver:I have sent a response to your email |
Project Location: Ogbe Village, Off Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, about a Kilometre from Day Waterman College. Quantity of Bricks Produced: 10,000bricks |
Badgers14:So sorry for the long silence... I have not been active here recently... The cost analysis of using red bricks is best done with the whole picture in mind.... not just bricks price versus sandcrete blocks price.... Where you save money when you use red bricks is actually on mortar.... both for joining the blocks together and cost of plastering... (cost of sand, cement and labour for joining and cost of sand, cement and labour for plastering) For 12,000 bricks the eventual cost depends on a lot of factors... availability of laterite in the location can help lower costs, how far from our base the site is, is another factor... the price isn't the same for all clients... you can talk to me on WhatsApp for more info on the price. |
johnson232:You are welcome sir |
ekanDamie:Going by the way you described how the foundation was done, I am afraid i don't know the solution... except to manage it as some experts as earlier advised... The saying goes... if d foundation be faulty what can the righteous (the house owner) do?? Next time endeavour to employ the services of experts, it pays in the long run... (The way you described the way the foundation was done does not show the person who handled it knew what he was doing, there is no need to cut corners with the foundation of a house... It is a very important part of the building....) |
johnson232:Bearing capacity is one of the reasons, foundation type is another... but most times having a knowledge of the bearing capacity can help you in putting a suitable foundation type in place... The essence of doing Geotechnical tests in some sites(especially for big projects, such as high rise buildings) is to ascertain the properties of the soil to design appropriate foundations for it... |
ekanDamie:When you erect a building, naturally, after a while it "settles" or sink... depending on the weight bearing capacity of the soil beneath your foundation... Differential or uneven settlement occurs when the soil beneath a structure can not bear the weights imposed. The settlement of a structure is the amount that the structure will “sink” during and after construction. Differential settlements become a big problem when the foundation settles unevenly. I am not saying this is the ACTUAL problem you have but the MOST PROBABLE cause of cracking... The soil type in your site can give more clues... |
ekanDamie:Your house is most probably suffering from DIFFERENTIAL SETTLING... It's a foundation(al) problem as rightly pointed out by other posters |
adanny01:You see... Exactly, just like you said... there are creative ways to achieve your objectives, without following the traditional practice and still enjoy the benefits of a red bricks building... It would be nice to work with you, seems you have a full grasp of things... Building with this technology is our passion.... |
airsaylongcon:Level of awareness... |
obongitiad:This technology has not been as embraced as it should be here in Nigeria, unlike in India and Southern Africa where it is more popular. The advantages of a red bricks building far outweighs that built with sandcrete blocks. This technology is the most ideal for our climate because of the thermal efficiency of a red bricks building and the climatic conditions we have. In actual sense these buildings are only a more technologically advanced version of the typical mud houses in the village, for those that have had the experience of living in them you will agree that even with their very small windows, they still maintain a very cool ambient temperature internally during hot weather conditions and a very warm ambient temperature in cold weather conditions... This is just one of its advantages... Construction speed is another... For others, check my earlier topics on this... |

|
adanny01:That is not entirely true, you can have conduit with interlocking red bricks, everything boils down to level of expertise, the only thing is that you may need to plaster the interior.... but you can have conduit wiring and for mechanical, you can use a plumbing duct.... See pictures below... Last picture shows where a plumbing duct was used...

engrbrain:I think this settles it... |
I think it will be more appropriate to employ greener technologies in building a GREEN CITY. Check my posts for more information on our technology and how this project can key into it.... Click the link below for pictures of ongoing project built with a greener technology.... https://www.nairaland.com/3677261/ongoing-massive-red-brick-construction |
We also have a similar technology now available in Nigeria with better aesthethic Check the links below for details.... https://www.nairaland.com/3677261/ongoing-massive-red-brick-construction https://www.nairaland.com/2818337/why-should-use-red-bricks |
Advantages of red-brick over traditional cement (sandcrete) blocks. * It is bulletproof. * It is more environmentally friendly than sandcrete blocks (it is a greener option) * It is the most appropriate for our climate and environment (being thermally efficient, in that when the ambient temperature of the exterior is very high it maintains a cool interior and when the ambient temperature is cool, it maintains a warm interior.... similar to how mud houses in the village works... same principle, but a better technology employed). * It is sound proof. * It is unique ( the aesthetics of a red bricks building, singles it out... (cos it's beautiful and unique) * It is made from natural materials (main ingredient is laterite) * It has long term cost benefits (especially when you leave it unpainted, we will only apply varnish to it, to make it waterproof, that way fungus and mosses can't mess with it.) However, You can paint the exterior too if you so wish. With sandcrete blocks after a few years you will need to repaint (retouch)... infact red bricks is d most suitable for public or government owned buildings because of uts low maintenance cost in the light of our poor maintenance culture (especially for public buildings) * It has shorter construction time... You can set up a red brick building within 4 weeks.... * When faced with the threat of demolition you can simply disaseemble it and relocate the building.... |
PLEASE NOTE... THE SALES OF CASSAVA STEM FOR ME WAS A ONE-OFF THING.... ADVERTISED WHEN WE MARKETED KINDLY NOTE THAT IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE |
