Car TalkF1: Max Verstappen beats Lewis Hamilton to F1 world title on last lap in Abu Dha by Godszilla(op): 4:27pm On Dec 12, 2021
Max Verstappen secured his first Formula One world championship with victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After a tense and highly controversial season decider at Yas Marina he beat his title rival Lewis Hamilton into second on the very last lap of the season after the pair had gone into the race level on points.

It was once more a straight head-to-head battle between the two at the front but where Verstappen and Red Bull proved to have the edge at the very death, leaving their rivals furious.....

HealthRe: Three Fresh Omicron Cases Confirmed In Nigeria by Godszilla: 9:28pm On Dec 07, 2021
So here is the thing am agreeing with you on most things and they are true yea. We don't keep records,we are never serious. We can't do dat volume of test cos we cant afford it. A single test is more than the minimum wage here.
Am in a school of thought that believe is not about the number of cases but death mayb dats y ain't too into test. Beside we now have massive millions asymptomatic people walking around randomly but dey say they are vaccinated. B4 the vaccine these asymptomatic people where dreaded but its OK now I suppose.
Look my point is people over here are dying
From covid but it's not at the rate over there it's a fact and that's the reality.since u av bin in medicine u can agree with me som diseases affect som race than other, same as gender and age. Maybe covid is more virulent to white or temperate climes. Maybe it's an old age disease like you yourself confirm. The question is what are we doing right and why is vaccine only solution to this problem?why is natural immunity completely ignore?we cannot continuously inject billions, humans ain't junkies its not realistic n unsustainable
idolda:
So you believe only 1k people died in Nigeria due to Covid-19 related case? Lol. Maybe the 1k is those who have confirmed cases and are held in isolation centres. Nigeria has no reliable data trust me (I'm a health personnel and worked in Nigeria health sector for over 10yrs) and I can tell you that. Nigeria doesn't test citizens for Covid-19. A small country like UK for instance with a total population of 67million has conducted over 370million Covid-19 test, Nigeria on the other hand with a population of over 200million has not even conducted up to 4million Covid-19 test.

If you don't test people, how will you know they have Covid-19? Where will you get reliable data to use? In Nigeria people die due to covid related complications but they are not tested or reported but in Western countries every sick and most healthy people are tested for Covid-19. And it is a criminal offence (they treat that person like a thief who rob bank) to bury someone without reporting and registering the death
HealthRe: Three Fresh Omicron Cases Confirmed In Nigeria by Godszilla: 8:32pm On Dec 07, 2021
Again I agree with you age population thing and they do hype this alot.
But again why must we believe that our average age life expectancy is in the 40s or maybe close to 50s study as accurate n why do most disregard our covid date as wrong, why?why should we copy a solution from som1 that's already practising it with over 400k death and we have over 1000 deaths,is it logical?doesn't it point to their us somtin dey no doing right or there's somtin we doun rit?y wud u copy and f9 candidate if u r a c candidate.
Again age population is jus 1 of the factors not all but I wish dey would really com study Africa since our people are completely docile
idolda:
I just dropped part of the reasons in my response to oakinshield. Here is the summary of the Reasons:
Covid-19 is mostly killing the elderly and Africa doesn't have much aged population like Western countries.

Secondly, westerners and their media value lives and always take extreme caution. For instance my child finished eating in school and immediately ran to join his colleagues to play football. Because he just finished eating without resting before joining them, he vomited. We were called to come and pick him despite him explaining what happened to them, they said they have to exercise caution. When I got there the head teacher confirmed he was ok but I still need to take him home and observe him for 2 days at home and if nothing happened after 2 days he can resume school. That is how they are they hype things especially when they are not yet sure they want to put in place extreme measures and assume the worse which is quite alien to us in Nigeria

Agree with you on omicron very much here 100% who Eva that is disputing that not facing reality, whatever future variant dey Eva find out we already have it.
But the tin is we av live with this tin for like 2 years now officially can u personal say this thing is deadly to us seriously let forget propaganda and news outlet.look around u in 9ja and say covid is devastating here.av neva bin to ladipo b4 until recently my God if covid is a tin half of dat market will b gone, plus miles market. Why are these market still busting with human activities with virtual disregard to covid after 2years.
Why do we av to keep testing for covid?why then did we stop testing for malaria when we have average over 200 deaths daily from malaria?is dying from malaria ok and dying from covid not.why does the US have more death this year under a shorter time than last year plus vaccine, why is it OK to have more deaths even with vaccine available?even if the vaccine is effective why is it OK to have 6billion plus human on reoccurring injection every 3-6 months, why?for a disease that is 99.7% recovery rate for any healthy human. Covid is real but there's somtin going on here that's beyond logic
idolda:
Reading some comments above make me feel so sorry for the future of the country considering that these are made by the youths which are the leaders of tomorrow. We love to live in denials. I understand the mistrust for the govt but that doesn't erase the fact on ground that the Omicron variant is widespread in Nigeria already. The fact that Nigeria isn't actively testing and massively sequencing samples doesn't erase that fact omicron is in the country.

2 people who arrived in Canada from Nigeria tested positive to Omicron

21 people from Nigeria who arrived UK testd positive to Omicron

A student from Nigeria who newly arrived in Sydney Australia tested positive to Omicron variant

Ghana Health Minister saaid 28% of new arrivals from Nigeria and South Africa are testing positive to Omicron variant
The above news and more lend credence to the assertion that the omicron variant is already circulating in Nigeria.

Rather than accept this fact and take measures to protect ourselves we kept on screaming it is a scam. People are dying due to Covid-19 in Nigeria yet we kept on denying it because we don't have access to testing which is readily available in other saner climes.

So i don't know much about the flu but the malaria is not a virus but a parasite, they are kind of different. However, malaria mortality is till very high in Nigeria, kills an average of 216 Nigeria daily from this article https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/nov/08/nigeria-unlikely-to-reach-impossible-covid-vaccine-target "Malaria kills an average of 216 Nigerians a day, according to the minister of health, Dr Osagie Ehanire", so you can see how much we really need to focus on Malaria not covid.
From information coming out of SA not what these news station are spreading, its symptoms are mild which means the virus is on its way becoming a "successful organism". Successful organism donot kill their host but live symbiotically or mutually with their host. But hey they just want to keep the panic going and shut Africa out. I believe this is what is happening now
tundess:
I would like to know how many flu or malaria variants there are and how their lethality compares ? Every Yr flu shots are given. Are the shots new or same as previous yrs ?
It was inevitable that a highly mutable virus will evade current vaccines. My fear is that the virus acquires genes of more fatal viral/bacterial genomes (antigenic drift, recombination etc) and bodies start piling up.

Yea i stated there is no proper study why its virtually very mild here.

Its either no covid in africa (Nigeria) which i know there is covid here or maybe we acquired the immunity to it spiritually since there's no study.

HealthRe: UK To Ban Travel From 6 Nations As South Africa Detects New COVID Variant by Godszilla: 1:00pm On Nov 26, 2021
This is a big lie.

Covid has already run its course in Nigeria and we have achieved herd "natural" immunity but nobody want to do the study. We will continuously be experiencing mild form of covid here. the question is how did we achieve this with virtually no "vaccination"

Here is a UK publication

https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/commentisfree/2021/jun/27/why-most-people-who-now-die-with-covid-have-been-vaccinated
TMKsouth:
Yeah, 96% recovery rate cool

Vaccination rate stands at 24% despite dumping AstraZeneca and having long delays waiting for J&J and Pfizer. Now there's an oversupply of vaccines in SA - we asked pharmaceuticals to halt exporting for a while.

Noticed Nigeria only sitting on 1,7% vaccination rate. If this new SA variant indeed is the most transmissible and worst yet much of Africa will be in big trouble with these dismal vaccination rates.
HealthRe: UK To Ban Travel From 6 Nations As South Africa Detects New COVID Variant by Godszilla: 12:45pm On Nov 26, 2021
No vaccine is 100% we all agree but this thing is not really a vaccine. I believe they went with calling it a vaccine as that is what most are comfortable and relate with. The thing doesnt contain the covid pathogen that should stimulate your natural defense mechanism matter of fact its bypassing it and acting to reduce its severity. which i thought was bad before the advent of these "vaccine",the so called asymtomatic individuals where derided way back then but now that the vaccine basically makes you asymptomatic its ok. so you can carry the virus and spread as vaccinated and it ok. but its not ok anyway, thats why they are still asking you to mask up and social distance after taking the "vaccine". Why is natural immunity under attacked and never get a sniff?
This thing is not vaccine but gene editing therapy
https://guardian.ng/opinion/what-to-know-about-the-covid-19-vaccine/
passion007:
So?

Which vaccine ever claimed to be 100% effective?

From the very beginning, it was established that the vaccine will prevent severe disease especially among those vulnerable.
No scientist ever said that once you're vaccinated, you'll never get covid. God knows where you read that from.

HealthRe: COVID-19 Fourth Wave Imminent, Lagos Commissioner Warns by Godszilla: 6:07pm On Nov 20, 2021
Was ever any wave in the first place.

I (we) use God to beg this people not to copy what's obviously not working from the white please we are begging ejoor
iwaeda:
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has raised the alarm over the imminent fourth wave of the COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Abayomi, at a briefing on Friday, said passengers coming into the country from high-burdened countries may likely increase the spread of the virus.

He said, “Many Nigerians staying abroad will be returning home to celebrate Christmas with their families. Most of these people will be coming from countries where there is a heavy burden of COVID-19 and where we know the virus is changing and mutating.

“The potential drivers of a fourth wave in Lagos and Nigeria are passengers arriving, especially from heavy-burdened countries in Europe and the United States into Lagos. 86 per cent of all inbound flights into Nigeria come through Lagos.

“It is only inevitable that if passengers are travelling in large numbers from these countries where they are about to experience a fourth and fifth wave, we should expect some activities in Lagos as a result of these movements. At the current rate of the response across the country, we are likely going to encounter a fourth wave of the COVID19 pandemic in December 2021.”

The commissioner lamented the low vaccination rate in Nigeria, saying many countries had vaccinated more than 50 per cent of their eligible populations.

“The other problem we have in Lagos and Nigeria is that our rate of vaccinations has been quite low; it is just below three per cent, whereas our target should be over 40 per cent. Many countries around the world have exceeded 50 per cent vaccination of eligible populations.

“At the current rate of the response across the country, we are likely going to encounter a fourth wave of the COVID19 pandemic in December 2021. Lagos State has only vaccinated about 2.6 per cent of its population, leaving it susceptible to a fourth wave. Fully vaccinated people with a vaccine breakthrough infection are less likely to develop serious illness than those who are unvaccinated and get COVID-19

“About 360 health facilities have so far been identified for the administration of the vaccines in the next phase of Lagos State’s vaccination campaign. Of this number, 225 are public facilities, while 135 are private facilities,” he said.

HealthScientists Mystified, Wary, As Africa Avoids COVID Disaster by Godszilla(op): 5:31pm On Nov 20, 2021
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — At a busy market in a poor township outside Harare this week, Nyasha Ndou kept his mask in his pocket, as hundreds of other people, mostly unmasked, jostled to buy and sell fruit and vegetables displayed on wooden tables and plastic sheets. As in much of Zimbabwe, here the coronavirus is quickly being relegated to the past, as political rallies, concerts and home gatherings have returned.

“COVID-19 is gone, when did you last hear of anyone who has died of COVID-19?” Ndou said. “The mask is to protect my pocket,” he said. “The police demand bribes so I lose money if I don’t move around with a mask.” Earlier this week, Zimbabwe recorded just 33 new COVID-19 cases and zero deaths, in line with a recent fall in the disease across the continent, where World Health Organization data show that infections have been dropping since July.

When the coronavirus first emerged last year, health officials feared the pandemic would sweep across Africa, killing millions. Although it’s still unclear what COVID-19’s ultimate toll will be, that catastrophic scenario has yet to materialize in Zimbabwe or much of the continent.

Scientists emphasize that obtaining accurate COVID-19 data, particularly in African countries with patchy surveillance, is extremely difficult, and warn that declining coronavirus trends could easily be reversed.

But there is something “mysterious” going on in Africa that is puzzling scientists, said Wafaa El-Sadr, chair of global health at Columbia University. “Africa doesn’t have the vaccines and the resources to fight COVID-19 that they have in Europe and the U.S., but somehow they seem to be doing better,” she said.

Fewer than 6% of people in Africa are vaccinated. For months, the WHO has described Africa as “one of the least affected regions in the world” in its weekly pandemic reports.

Some researchers say the continent’s younger population -- the average age is 20 versus about 43 in Western Europe — in addition to their lower rates of urbanization and tendency to spend time outdoors, may have spared it the more lethal effects of the virus so far. Several studies are probing whether there might be other explanations, including genetic reasons or past infection with parasitic diseases.

On Friday, researchers working in Uganda said they found COVID-19 patients with high rates of exposure to malaria were less likely to suffer severe disease or death than people with little history of the disease.

“We went into this project thinking we would see a higher rate of negative outcomes in people with a history of malaria infections because that’s what was seen in patients co-infected with malaria and Ebola,” said Jane Achan, a senior research advisor at the Malaria Consortium and a co-author of the study. “We were actually quite surprised to see the opposite — that malaria may have a protective effect.”

Achan said this may suggest that past infection with malaria could “blunt” the tendency of people’s immune systems to go into overdrive when they are infected with COVID-19. The research was presented Friday at a meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Christian Happi, director of the African Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases at Redeemer’s University in Nigeria, said authorities are used to curbing outbreaks even without vaccines and credited the extensive networks of community health workers.

“It’s not always about how much money you have or how sophisticated your hospitals are,” he said.

Devi Sridhar, chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh, said African leaders haven’t gotten the credit they deserve for acting quickly, citing Mali’s decision to close its borders before COVID-19 even arrived.

“I think there’s a different cultural approach in Africa, where these countries have approached COVID with a sense of humility because they’ve experienced things like Ebola, polio and malaria,” Sridhar said.

In past months, the coronavirus has pummeled South Africa and is estimated to have killed more than 89,000 people there, by far the most deaths on the continent. But for now, African authorities, while acknowledging that there could be gaps, are not reporting huge numbers of unexpected fatalities that might be COVID-related. WHO data show that deaths in Africa make up just 3% of the global total. In comparison, deaths in the Americas and Europe account for 46% and 29%.

In Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, the government has recorded nearly 3,000 deaths so far among its 200 million population. The U.S. records that many deaths every two or three days.

The low numbers have Nigerians like Opemipo Are, a 23-year-old in Abuja, feeling relieved. “They said there will be dead bodies on the streets and all that, but nothing like that happened,” she said.

On Friday, Nigerian authorities began a campaign to significantly expand the West African nation’s coronavirus immunization. Officials are aiming to inoculate half the population before February, a target they think will help them achieve herd immunity.

Oyewale Tomori, a Nigerian virologist who sits on several WHO advisory groups, suggested Africa might not even need as many vaccines as the West. It’s an idea that, while controversial, he says is being seriously discussed among African scientists — and is reminiscent of the proposal British officials made last March to let COVID-19 freely infect the population to build up immunity.

That doesn’t mean, however, that vaccines aren’t needed in Africa.

“We need to be vaccinating all out to prepare for the next wave,” said Salim Abdool Karim, an epidemiologist at South Africa’s University of KwaZulu-Natal, who previously advised the South African government on COVID-19. “Looking at what’s happening in Europe, the likelihood of more cases spilling over here is very high.”

The impact of the coronavirus has also been relatively muted beyond Africa in poor countries like Afghanistan, where experts predicted outbreaks amid ongoing conflict would prove disastrous.

Hashmat Arifi, a 23-year-old student in Kabul, said he hadn’t seen anyone wearing a mask in months, including at a recent wedding he attended alongside hundreds of guests. In his university classes, more than 20 students routinely sit unmasked in close quarters.

“I haven’t seen any cases of corona lately,” Arifi said. So far, Afghanistan has recorded about 7,200 deaths among its 39 million people, although little testing was done amid the conflict and the actual numbers of cases and deaths are unknown.

Back in Zimbabwe, doctors were grateful for the respite from COVID-19 — but feared it was only temporary.

“People should remain very vigilant,” warned Dr. Johannes Marisa, president of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association. He fears that another coronavirus wave would hit Zimbabwe next month. “Complacency is what is going to destroy us because we may be caught unaware.”

Maybe they shud start testing for malaria cases too and reporting them daily as well.

So reported cases are the thing now?since when it has bcom a crime human fell ill?its not the number of cases pls but death n maybe hospitalization.

And if its increasing in Europe, it must increase here too?wot a logic. I still don't no wot it will take for people to com to understand that covid is not an issue for us over here. The fact n evidence is there for all to c,the question is y is it not deadly here. Thats what the research shud focus on.

They claimed marriage is not important, not for everyone, that you can stay single and be having children outside wedlock, so long as you can take care of them. Yet, they go about talking you down as soon as you're of age and have no wife/husband.

A girlfriend of mine in her late thirties just declared she's getting married and everyone is sharing her up, sending her congratulatory messages as if she has not been existing.

Does marriage really worth that hyping or what's so special about it that civilization is hiding from us?

That's y the electoral college in USA is a genius and dats what most sensible system should adopt.

HealthRe: The Doctors Want To Amputate My Mum's Leg. Advice Needed by Godszilla: 4:21pm On Nov 06, 2021
Sorry about your situation must b really tuff for you.
However, from your explanation if this whole episode just started about 3 weeks ago which I believe is still early maybe blood vessel surgery could allow blood to flow to this/these cells/tissues.
Second or third option wont hurt as long as its a trusted hospital or even traditional option (yes our tradition medicine has been badly abandoned). But you av to move fast as obviously her case stems from the diabetes and hopefully the bacteria infection slow down all.
We are all praying for you and your mom will be fine. We all always need true motherly love
Spark2:
Hello NL.
I'm going to keep this brief.

It started three weeks ago. my mum, who was walking normal with no problem suddenly could not walk. Her left leg began paining her severely that day. My mum was all in tears... She was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that her sugar level was on the high side. The hospital gave drugs which stabilised it, at that point my mum was very weak, couldn't eat, each time she eat she throws up and also had some pain in the leg still. After a week in the hospital, we were then referred to a teaching hospital after a test showed that creatinine in her kidney was high.

The teaching hospital tried their best and I can say my mum is now okay. Except for the left leg. She can't still walk on it, the leg feels cold to touch with a little discolouration above the foot.

Doppler test showed that blood isn't really flowing through the leg. And they said they will need to amputate the leg to prevent the infection from growing to the other parts of the body.

Please I want to know if you know anyone who had similar condition and amputation was recommended but was later healed without need for amputation.

Please share your recommendations. I need my mum now more than before in my life. We are confused on whether to allow them to go on with the amputation or seek other alternatives.

Thank you very much.

Pls note that as at now, her sugar level, creatinine and other things are normal.
FamilyRe: What's The Advantage Of A Court Wedding To Men? by Godszilla: 4:55pm On Nov 03, 2021
If you right you probably the only person that has answered the op question but the final you final part doesn't sound humane
Lordsonn:
There are a lot of benefits for men:
1) If your wife died, all her properties belong to you.
2) If your wife dies, you are the one to decide where and how to bury your wife, not her family members.
3) Court wedding stops every family members from interfering in your marriage matter. The parents of your wife do not have a say in anything that concerns your marriage.
4) Court wedding take away every responsibility to your in-law from you. You are not under any obligation to buy anything for your in-law or do anything during burial of any of them
5) Whoever interfere in your marriage relationship is liable to 3 months imprisonment including your wife's mother.
6) If the husband dies, the properties automatically belongs to the wife and children. No family member will come and reap where they did not sow. Even the father of the husband have no say in the properties of the deceased person.

I did Court wedding and I'm enjoying it. Christmas is coming, I have no responsibility to give anything to in-laws and I mean it. I don't even go to greet them and don't want them in my house, because it is not a statutory obligation under the marriage Act.

NEWSCOVID-19: Get vaccinated or be barred from offices, markets – Abiodun warns Ogun residentsPublished on November 1, 2021By Ishola Oludare

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Monday gave a 60-day ultimatum to unvaccinated residents of the state to obtain the COVID-19 vaccines or risk being barred from government offices, markets, schools and public transport.

Abiodun made this known during the flag-off of the COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to the governor, the 60-day is to allow unvaccinated Ogun residents to take the jabs, saying this was part of the moves to flatten the curve of the disease.

He stated that the state was targeting the vaccination of additional two million residents in the new mass vaccination exercise.

“We are going to give a window to allow for this vaccination exercise and that window starts from today till the next 60 days. Anybody that is not vaccinated after 60 days will not be allowed into our offices, schools. Such people will not be allowed to do business with us. We will chase this person in our markets, you will be required to carry your vaccine cards with you at all times.

“This is my vaccination card. If you don’t have a card like this, you will not come to our secretariat, we will not do business with you, we will not allow Okada to carry you, we will not allow taxis to carry you, you will not be allowed in our Market. We will enforce this card, to be forewarned is to be forearmed,” the governor emphasised.

Abiodun disclosed that Ogun had increased vaccine centres from 131 to 509 to allow eligible residents access to the vaccination.

In his remarks, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib mentioned that the Federal Government was targeting the vaccination of 50 per cent of eligible Nigerians by the end of January 2022.

Shuaib stated that as at September 2021, a total of 5,684,939 Nigerians had taken their first dose of the vaccine, adding that 3,730,937 had been vaccinated with the two doses within the period.

He said the figures represented 5 per cent and 2.8 percent of the targeted population of 200 million Nigerians.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, explained that Ogun had recorded 5,370 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 80 casualties so far

Does anyone see logic here please.
FamilyRe: Don't complain that your husband is cheating on you if you are on this table by Godszilla: 6:26am On Oct 19, 2021
Since our tradition is diverse we cant 100% say it allows polygamy but if u look at the history evident points to yes it does I don't think most can argue with that maybe it's the tradition, the individual or even the society.
Now the court marriage it's essentially free u don't need to spend more them 30k maybe less n it's done. Yea it's protects the woman more n obviously we all no dat.now again looking at precedence the court marriages doesn't encourage polygamy but it doesn't stop cheating cos that's not a crime. So has the court marriage made life beta or the family homes beta evidently no. We have higher divorces now compare to olden days yea u may say women enlightenment but is this really progress?anyway its u choice how u want to interprete it.
Is is beta to av 2 wives n not cheat or av 1 wife n cheats uncontrolled, again this is hypocritical situation. Which is beta?it's still com down to u choice cos its has always n will always b "your" choice.
Anyway here is the tin the Law controlls the lesser man while principle control the greater man.marraige like life is tuff any other tin u hear or people tell u is probably not true.cheers
maureensylvia:
Only women who are married monogamously under the marriage act (in court or in an approved church) have the right to say “My husband is cheating on me”! If you are only married traditionally, your husband never vowed to be faithful to you!

when you are married only under native law and custom your husband has the right to marry as many wives as he wants and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Also your children belong to him custody wise under native law and custom.

Constrictive criticism is allowed
