Did everybody see the different reactions ,on this thread ,to the Muslims who kicked somebody in the head ?

Or the councillor calling for heads to be cut off? I did not see a single "underlying causes " excuse on this thread.
We all agree that Swift justice was visited on them and rightly so.

That's where we differ. We are not the same QED.
"underlying causes" my boot.

There’s no point bothering ourselves much, one major thing is clear before, during and after this crisis; you’re already a confirmed criminal when you run foul of the law as an immigrant before and after the crime but as a British native there are underlying causes, the earlier we accept this the better for peace to reign. So many revolutionary revelations. wow!

As much as i support Trump i don't believe he will deport anyone if he is re elected. It is not that easy to deport illegals massively as he claims.

The more people go in, the likelihood of increase in crime

No, for example in the uk stats has shown that the the influx of immigrants never increased the crime rate.

Poverty, mental illness etc, increases crime rather

Well no proof that they are stopping legal immigrants.

Even if that's the case, why should they have increasing number of immigrants?

Resources will get depleted over time and even the legal ones still commit crimes

No proof? Something that was public knowledge when Trump was in power.

How do immigrants who contribute massively to the gdp of any nation depletes resources? Who is telling you these lies?

Criminality has nothing to do with one being an immigrant, it’s down to individuals whether citizens or immigrants.

Bro your head is correct 💯!
Most people here don't know anything about America immigration all they do is to argue blindly. They don't even live here.
Under Trump some people with green card were even denied re-entry into the US.
And for those awaiting green cards he did everything to frustrate them.

Our people are too ignorant it’s only when they become victims they become realistic.

Why go to another country with illegal documents?
Is his wife in America with illegal or false documents?

What type of reasoning is this?

Don’t be fooled when they say it’s illegal immigrants they will deport, they are just trying to please their people, at the end when they discover they can’t do much about people crossing the border they now turn their focus to legal immigrants who are yet to get permanent residency. During Covid, skilled immigrants who had h1b visas were not allowed re entry into the US by the same Trump. There are lots of backlogs as we speak on residency applications due to Trump hardline stance on immigration when he was president.

Look at the Uk, they started their propaganda by shouting about stopping those crossing into the country by boats, at the end of the day it was legal migrants like students, care workers and other skilled workers that were restricted either by stopping them to bring in their families or increasing the salary requirements for skilled workers meanwhile in the last one week as we speak over 700 people have crossed into the uk by boats so you see it’s all propaganda for politics to woo votes when in reality they can’t really do much on illegal immigration. it’s on record that even Obama did more deportations than Trump but Obama made no noise about it. It’s legal immigrants that always bear the brunt of all these anti-immigration propaganda.

Various reasons. Some are full-time carers. Some are women/parents who have dropped out of the workforce to raise children. Quite a few older people left work during Covid and decided to start their retirement from there. There are some who were self-employed outside IR35 and got sick of the whole IR35 thing and don't bother working (or declaring income) anymore and just do their own thing. There are also people who want to work but cannot access jobs - they may be in towns/villages where there are few opportunities but can't travel/commute/relocate to where jobs are either because they can't afford to or there is no available transport (high cost of train fares, for instance) or they have support networks they cannot leave or the tight housing market won't allow it.

The actual number of people who are the Telegraph's enemies, i.e. so-called persons on benefits who supposedly actually can work is debatable.

The flexible working scheme has been in place to address some of these issues listed but still no headway

That’s more than 10% of the country’s population, issorite. 😳

To the best of my knowledge the issue is beyond training and encouraging the local workforce. Like every other country there are fundamental issues of social values that need to be attended to.

Well said.
We just finished an election where the Reform promised zero migration among numerous freebies- why didn't they win?

I agree with the constant demonisation bit and that build up is the reason why many have taken issues with Zahra. She is well known for far right views but the parts I've taken her up on is subtle belittling of migrants. From quick memory,

My first contact with her here was when she mockingly 'warned' us that those who voted Brexit did not do that because they wanted Europeans to be replaced by 'brown and black' folks (her words). My response was reminding her that the stvpidity of Brexiters means nothing to me and their shortsightedness has been of good benefit to Nigerians which I welcome.

Next it was heaping struggles of the NHS on immigrants who in her words arrived with many untreated medical issues. Had to remind her that immigrants are overwhelmingly young and fit and would rarely visit their GP. Many are not even registered despite working in healthcare or paying more that their fair due via the IHS.

Next it was international students and how they are a drain. I had to educate that fees paid by international students are not only a lifeline of many universities but also subsidise local tuition fees.

Next it was how the NHS doesn't need migrants. Again had to remind her that a few years ago, the number of newly registered international doctors in a year surpassed new local doctors. Also, the government willfully stopped paying nursing students bursaries as it was cheaper to get oversee nurses.

Next was how the last government didn't know the care pathway was being abused in a bid to absolve them. Had to remind her stories were rampant in the media for years and that the home office issues every visa and should have a live tally of numbers issued and lastly why the care pathway had not been scrapped even after all the abuse. grin

The last one was showing hypocritical concern to developing nations who loose healthcare workers. Had to remind her that Britain donated millions of it's citizens to US/Aus/Can. I wonder when they'd ask them to return.

The next, I'd guess is how the UK would stop recruiting healthcare workers from certain nations. Again I'd say, I'm surprised it took so long.

It is such subtle insults that people noticed and came to the fore with the riots and the classic 'but' game she came with.

😂 that’s why when those countries start chanting anti immigration rhetorics, I just laugh. In their own eyes they have become more native than the natives they met there. Only God can forgive all their sins.

I like painting scenarios.

If you were a black American, who hasn't had to convert dollar to naira mentally for years, do you believe you would be happy to take lower than minimum wage under the table jobs for example? Cos those are the jobs that Nigerians wey japa with visitor visa, or those from Mexico wey cross the border typically dey do.

I think the average black American even when shit poor, thinks he is likely better off financially than the black immigrant, cos he hasn't lived his entire life converting dollar to naira for example. All he knows is the concept of what the dollar can buy and the concept of a comfortable life based on what he can do with the dollar. The black immigrant due to his knowledge and experience from the other side, knows damn well that at all at all na im bad pass. So just like I waited a year and didn't take the 50k jobs, the 70k jobs and preferred to sit my ass at home till the one that I felt I would enjoy better and would pay what I desired came along, cos while my folks were not rich, we sha dey ok, but someone from Niger or Benin Republic with the exact same qualifications as me would happily take those jobs of the opportunity presents itself. Same with artisans, in the very recent past before balablu killed naija patapata, Togolese and Benin Republic guys would happily collect less than half of what naija artisans will charge and do an even better job cos their realities/outlook on the pay differs our own.

Just my opinion, can't support this one with hard facts

So who’s actually responsible for all these? Immigrants, govt, private sector or who?

Why have all the successive governments from all the political parties not addressed this? Don’t you think it’s high time the govt come clean to their citizens on the true affordability of wages? how much do people earn in the uk civil service? So does it mean the govt itself is undercutting their own people? So why do they lie to the people that immigrants accept low wages when the government itself offer low wages. Can you see there’s no transparency in all these yet immigrants will continue to be the object of attack and propaganda. How much salary does the nhs itself offer. Are junior doctors and nurses not agitating for salary increases? Does that have anything to do with low wages accepted by immigrants? I hope you know these jobs can’t be done using visitors visas so the under table jobs don’t even apply. How much do teachers earn both in the uk and US, The govt itself should show example and pay more living wages so its citizens who automatically have the right to work documentation can access it instead of going after immigrants that can easily be stopped at the border by the same govt.

Low wages/salaries. Typically immigrants will accept lower wages for same job as Brit. Then there's the benefit system, why work when i can get it for free (for work shy able bodied folks). Laziness and entitlement. Lack of incentive for productivity.

The Low wages narrative is what will continue to make immigrants as objects of attack even with the increase in the salary threshold for skilled workers and the planned increase again in the construction and IT sectors will this narrative go away? I thought there is a minimum wage that applies to all occupations. Even in a country like the US where wages are much higher it’s still the same narrative politicians used for campaign purposes. So you see this low wages shit it’s all propaganda, simple.

To make matter worse, all political parties have used "immigration being the problem" to campaign. This is one of the causes.

These are things that have been mentioned here before but the propagandists told us to shut it and be grateful that we're here. The rhetoric in the mainstream media and by the politicians have been the most despicable. If we call African leaders despots, I wonder what we should call the politicians here. No be you Grandma dey talk about...and the fact that there is no way to differentiate in the heat of a hostile/volatile situation who is legal/illegal is the part that is scary and fxxxked up...but still shying away from those underlying causes doesn't make the resentment go away. Addressing it head on is/was Zahra's point/proposition, and it is valid....else this almost certainly will still happen again in the near future.

Why are most still NOT getting the point?

She shared her opinion on the topic, a broad topic, not a dissertation on 'Nairaland living in UK thread as a case study'. Why the angst?🤣

This is not me being agreeable, cos Zahra sef know say we don disagree on some points/subjects.

If you were still in Naija, earning say 150k a month, and you find a horde of Ghanaians or Nigeriens are trooping in unabated and being treated by the FG to hospitality that your 4-months salary can't afford you, and this goes on for an extended period of time, honestly answer yourself, would you harbor some resentment towards those Ghanaians/Nigeriens?

We know the govt is the one that should be challenged and we are not saying that resorting to violence on the Ghanaians/Nigeriens is right, but are you gonna tell me in all honesty that you won't harbor resentment towards those Ghanaians/Nigeriens?

The story of the prodigal son in the Bible, a son stayed and served his father, while the prodigal son went and squandered his inheritance. He came back after hitting rock bottom and daddy took him.backwith open arms, put the finest robe on him and killed the fattest cow to celebrate. All well and good. The story is about love. Now let's add a twist, let's assume the father kept celebrating and partying and spoiling the prodigal son with gifts everyday for years, while not doing anything close to that to the son that stayed, would you as the good senior brother that stayed tell me in all honesty, tell me you won't harbor resentment towards your brother and/or your father?

Inheritance sharing lasan in some families divides them irreparably, some even seeking each others lives. Psquare wey share the same womb sef are literally sworn enemies for the most petty of reasons, much less strangers.

We are talking of human beings here, not angels. The violence is not right, and the govt are the cause we know, but human emotions will override all that, as with the two scenarios I painted up there.

Agentxxx already summed everything up well. That this non-issue still keeps dragging like this shows it's personal jare.

So how can we manage Grandma's emotions in Barnsley bayi, should we all go to Barnsley and beg Grandma that we are sorry for trooping into her country unabated so Grandma can be happy abi wetin be the solution bayi cos I don't still understand how this is our bloody business. You have even mentioned it's Govt business so what's your problem here?

If you want to hear the truth and I mentioned it already, close both the air and sea border but if you can't close it then please channel your grievances to the appropriate quarters e no concern us but if you don't gerrit forget about it. Sounding apologetic can never assuage anybody's feelings in this matter.

Thank you Agentxxx. I stated several times (although I thought it went without saying) that I did not support the violence, rioters, racism etc regardless of who it was targeted at, and that I supported swift action against the criminals;

Nothing I mentioned about the festering issues in some communities meant I was justifying their violence, attacks or vandalism (why would I, for crying out loud Worst case they should be protesting against the government, which I also stated)....but as you pointed out to me, my timing and tone was off and I took that on board.

However when people don't like you, they'll allow their emotions and bias to twist everything you say and thus they chose to run with a narrative of "Zahra is coming on a BAME platform to say that the far right thugs are justified to attack black and Asian people. She defends their actions and and she is gleeful about the attacks against black folk" 🙄

Meanwhile on the evening news yesterday, they commented that while it was good news that the riots were subsiding, issues still remained. They didn't say that the issues justified the violence. They then went on to speak to people in Barnsley. A white grandma came on TV to say that she was not far right and that she condemned the violence. She wasn't racist she said - she had mixed race grandchildren, Muslim family members etc. However, she said, "I am very angry about illegal immigrants who are being housed for free and given freebies" (her words).

So as the unrest starts to die down, the media and govt will probably shift to analysing some of these potential issues and it will become apparent if this all happened in a vacuum or if there are lingering concerns in the minds of peaceful Brits. (All the far right criminals will hopefully be in jail).

Anyways moving on lol....

How's it going with your sponsorship renewal now that the occupation code was rectified? All sorted I hope?

You still don't get it and you keep insulting our sensibilities here, what's our damn business here with illegal immigrants who are being housed for free? does the solution lie with either legal or illegal immigrants?
