Hehe.. hopefully, not all remain stuck there.

In life, we all make choices. Take two men of 40 with kids and put them in a workplace. Its almost guaranteed that in a period of say 15yrs, outcomes would be very different. Some of this might be by chance, some by effort. Infact many people refuse to japa in their 40's cos they dont think it's worth it whereas, I've seen a man in his mid 60's sell his house and japa. I've had married colleagues come into the country together, start at entry roles, after a while one keeps pushing on to advance while the other enjoys the entry role and remains there for periods on end. Again, none of these folks necessarily took a bad decision. They just focused on what mattered to them.

Even out of the workplace, the effort people put in things differ widely mainly based on the importance they attach to it. Move things over to say religion and some folks who were docile at work become firebrand. Again not bad, just choices- all of which come with implications.
My sister parents in-law migrated to the US years ago in their sixties after her father in law retired as a top management staff in one of Nigeria’s mega banks. It was so strange to me then in fact we had to rush my sister’s marriage ceremony then as the man threatened we may have to do the marriage without them if we don’t hasten up, we think say na play o 😂. Apart from his house he sold every damn thing to migrate. He’s almost 80 now living the best of his life in fact it was when he got to the US a growth was discovered somewhere on his body and successfully operated upon, if he was still back in naija of course we can easily predict the outcome. I must admit that was one of my motivations to also japa as I told myself if that man and his wife at that age could take such a decision then what is my own problem so all these our younger people complaining of deciding to migrate as they are too old is laughable. The issue is understanding your why and clarity around your objectives with no pretence and reliance on what others think.

No serious nation should ever let its immigration system go unchecked. Even with how unserious Nigeria can be, immigration should still be guarded carefully. However, the problem is that many of these people seem to focus on demonizing legal immigrants, often acting like they don’t even understand the very laws they’re trying to enforce. I keep hearing things like “migrants shouldn’t be on benefits,” and I honestly struggle to see how that makes sense, especially when it’s not even the case in reality.
There are migrants on benefits like asylum seekers, approved refugees including European citizens who are in legally. The problem is those who aren’t entitled to benefits are not always separated from the discourse.

Second gen? Lol

As much as I love to help, I don't think I can in this instance as your premise is flawed. For starters, not sure who referred to immigrants as parasites - I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure I didn't hear Shabana say that, or even Suella.

Also, no where is it stipulated that a descendant of immigrants must forever be a proponent of uncontrolled migration, or else be labelled a sellout, gatekeeper etc - even a 1st gen migrant can be concerned about high migration levels if they see its detrimental effects.
There’s never anything like uncontrolled immigration, visas were applied for and granted, even those coming by boats are being received and not that they just sneak in without anybody seeing them. The term or word uncontrolled is just political to always irk people against imaginary enemies. And even when the figures go down we still continue to heard the word uncontrolled!

Violent, lawless, broken Britain? The facts tell a different story

“The populist narrative of a migrant-driven crimewave is catnip on social media and oil to the wheels of Reform. But it is so far from the truth that we’re in danger of losing sight of the country we live in.”
Just like immigration they will always cherry pick data they want to use to drive any narrative for political reasons just imagine how Trump and his gang keep deriding the London Mayor for all kinds of imaginary things. We are indeed in an era of disinformation and propaganda.

Right now immigration figures are down but still they will keep putting word out there that the country is still being invaded in their own imagination. And the way it will continue to drive up migrant driven crime like that mosque being put on fire hmmm.

Hehe... In UK, many of those have not even seen a church in ages but all of a sudden become defenders of the church because the brown man next door is of a different religion.

I was only just having a conversation about that on Nairaland as it seems Kirk is now the new martyr. The rally of certain Christians towards lunatics- people who hate them for their colour all because that lunatic said 'go to church' or uses certain phrases is something else. Religion can truly be an opium
Dem just Dey use Christianity do guiding 😂 it’s actually an old playbook used by colonialists back in the day. If you remember the words of Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa he said when the colonial masters came they (south Africans) owned the land while the colonialists owned the bible then they told them to close their eyes for prayers and when they opened their eyes they the colonialists now owned the land while they the South Africans now had the bible so no be today!

After 2 attempts, I did watch most of it. Not surprised. What's more telling is that though folks in this video look largely rundown, such narrative permeates thru most sectors in different shades. It usually usually only takes a scratch to bring it to the fore.

Also not surprising that the distinction is based on colour and religion not when ones progenitors arrived. It's a very thin line between true concern about immigration and these folks.

What I however find surprising is rising islamophobia. As someone who is a Christian, though I sadly don't go to church regularly, I was usually the most religious person in my cohort. I begin to wonder where all these Christians that want to save their country come from.
Those kind of aggressive and violent Christians are not different from Islamic fundamentalists. They are much in America and are great proponents of gun rights. They will tell you they are pro-life when it comes to abortion laws but can never be pro-life for gun control 😂

She said her parents, who settled in Birmingham in the 1970s, didn’t “just come to work – they settled, they made a contribution to the local community, they were volunteers, they got involved in local politics. They did more than simply work and earn a salary.”

I have always wondered what goes on in the mind of certain second gen folks. It appears they truly believe their parents had widely different (i.e 'better') characteristics than those coming today. At what point does this thinking take hold?

Looking at the description of her parents, it's quite clear they were everyday hustlers however, she's made up this complex in her mind about them being high-riders. I'm sure if you ask Kemi, she'd say her mum who edged in her birth in was also a 'contributor'

I am truly curious as this is a narrative I'd look out for in my kids and challenge if present.
When Braverman too was reminded that her parents were refugees she replied that they were legal refugees 😂 that’s when I knew these folks are just jesters!

ILR reform has promised to scrap!

The way the UK is now, spend less, stockpile on cash to give yourself the possibility to explore an alternative course of action. Avoid any long term investment that cannot be salvaged or easily exited.

Very cruel and little sense in locking people into a restrictive SWV for 10years & that is not even the worse thoughts out there. They are threatening more restrictions!

Last, last many of their changes will push many of the tax paying migrants who are not dependent on benefits away and leave then stuck with the one they house and pay a stipend to from day 1.

Since they have been aggressively pushing these policies, legal migration has declined rapidly while illegal migration has increase sharply. Common sense should have prevailed that the approach isnt right, but not here.
When policies are based on deliberate misinformation and disinformation what do you expect? Even MAC the advisory panel has done several research to dispel some of these false narratives like legal migrants are stressing the nhs where they said they are even the healthiest group in the society who rarely use the nhs still every word out there is how migrants are the ones blocking nhs appointments for citizens. They also once said International graduates and those on post study visas were earning less than the average brit on low skilled jobs, MAC dispelled that too. Lies upon lies everywhere. For as long they continue to lump everyone together whether illegal or legal or those seeking asylum the saga continues.

Those on other immigration routes can also apply to have the NRPF condition lifted:

"You have permission granted on any other immigration route and you want to apply on a discretionary basis because your circumstances are particularly compelling"

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-change-of-conditions-of-leave-to-allow-access-to-public-funds-if-your-circumstances-change

The below report also shows that despite the ability to apply for a change of their conditions,

British National (Overseas) from Hong Kong accounted for under 50 applications for Change of Conditions, of which just 17 have been accepted. compared to other nationalities that average in their thousands.

https://ukonward.com/reports/loophole-nation/
It is even well specified from the link you shared on those who can apply for NRPF conditions being lifted, those on family routes, private life and bno visas. So it’s not true that other visas routes can apply. Again that’s so clearly written.

Hongkongers are not refugees - they are British Nationals Overseas/ British subjects and have connections/rights to the UK, which is why they are also exempt from the proposed settlement policy changes.

Hongkongers also tend to be very well educated and high earners compared to the average, and do not have access to benefits.
https://www.gov.uk/british-national-overseas-bno-visa

What you can and cannot do
You can:
• work (except you cannot work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach)
• study (including at school, college or university)
You cannot usually get most benefits (public funds).
Once you have a BNO visa, you might be able to get access to benefits. You'll be eligible for this in certain financial circumstances, for example if you:
• do not have a place to live and cannot afford one
• have a place to live but cannot afford essential living costs like food or heating
• are at risk of losing your place to live or being unable to afford essential living costs

You want the UK to give you soft landing and fast path to citizenship ke? How naw?? When you are the reason they left the EU, why housing costs have gone up and they cant get NHS appointments?

Let us focus please!

It is indeed a starting point for lots of people. My housemate, a staunch UK supporter and lover had to leave for the US 2 weeks to his UK post study ending. He has married now, gotten a well paying tech job and is heading towards PR while we are still here debating 10 year routes and if immigrants should get citizenship in 100 or 200 years

grin
😂 the UK has never been a soft landing place even before Brexit, as a matter of fact it was after Brexit the UK looked like a soft landing place due to generous wave of student and care visas. Ask lots of immigrant doctors, nurses and other professionals in North America of many years you will be shocked with the number of those who started from the uk so it’s nothing new or strange at all. The Uk just knows how to lower the bar of entry when they feel like compared to other countries. But strategically if you’re highly skilled you should aim for countries with quicker route to permanent residency of which the Uk has never been an option, it’s more like a place of temporary refuge 😂 unless you’re just fortunate enough to get settled after a long while. It is what it is.

The H1B has always been exploited and needed some form of revamp at a point. Its even worse than what UK has as its "ballot" based.

At least, while on H1B, you can earn $200K (before you earn £160K in the UK, you go see wennn) without having to be in healthcare while the UK shits on you as you collect your 2 portion peanuts... plus you can choose other immigration options without breaking a sweat like marriage --> GC ---> military (with benefits) and then citizenship. The EB2/EB2/O1 requirements are also "easier" to meet than UK's global talent where they pretend to want talented individuals but tie it to having worked in "product led" kinikan.

Canada & AU both offer PR from the scratch if you are skilled while there is no way to get this in the UK (correct me if im wrong). If you are skilled in both countries, you will likely eat good although I admit Canada's job market is not so good except for maybe IT and healthcare.

The truth of the matter if that its the illegal immigrants who get to enjoy the bulk of what the UK has to offer from Day 1 and that is why it is being exploited. Healthcare, housing, translators, benefits, hotels, no council tax etc while students / skilled workers are berated daily.

Waiting for them to implement their 10 year route stuff in totality although I suspect it will be the same as before but with plenty English grin
😂 very annoying thing, the uk global talent visa looks like the O1 visa for the US ( I even feel that’s where the uk copied it from), which also enables many highly skilled workers to enter the US legally across a far wider range of disciplines, if the uk global talent was not limited to that product led thing so many folks on skilled worker visa will be able to switch and not get stranded when they are laid off by employers.

My two cents to anyone in the Uk, if you know you have skills and experience that will qualify you for some visa categories in the US, Canada or Australia stop deceiving yourself and explore such opportunities as those countries still gives you a chance to either get permanent residency from the start or pathways to permanent residency asap. All these talk of it’s not greener at the other side are just flimsy excuses cos it’s not worth it risking your legal residency and that of your family at the mercy of those who will prioritise refugees and illegal migrants over you. The Uk is a good starting place for people but many don’t make it to the finish line. Save yourself first before thinking about what others say.

Not just that.

Most of them are brought on humanitarian or asylum visas are immediately settle on benefits as they do have a strong grasps of the language or market skill set.

Rather than Zia Yusuf to call out his people, he would rather create the impression that migrants in general are benefit scroungers.

Someone who supports women wearing burqa, claim recent migrants are unitegrated and benefits scroungers?

Is any of the burqa wearing women he supports integrated or working ?
In addition both Ukrainian refugees and hongkong refugees are all exempted from the new rules, groups that are also on benefits. But it’s hardworking migrants with no recourse to benefits they will still lump up with others to tell the entire world that they are all on benefits while some groups actually on benefits will continue to have them. This is how they continue to sacrifice law abiding and tax paying migrants to please a racial minority as Hustla puts it.
