Having read your postings all over NL threads, I am persuaded you need your brain examined by a psychiatrist. I've met a Tunisian Muslim and a Professor of Law who drank beer, my old course mate in the Uni who hails from Palestine and who's a Muslim by birth eats pork. So, what are you on about here on NL? Am one of this people who saw the grandstanding of the pastor. his action may be consequential, immediately on him. but for sure his thought will be rewarded by the Revealer of Quran.

I have, for over the last 10 years, picked up copies of the quran and burned them to ashes. In one particular year, I had a copy in my toilet and regularly used it as a toilet paper. Nothing has happened and I'm, as ever, very prosperous in all I lay my hand upon. Stop wagging your acidic tongue and then utterly get lost in your slavish and barbaric religion of war and violence.

mr golder, why can't you apply your sense how can some one withdraw money from your account without a check book when it's not a ATM huh even the stucture of the story lack authenticity first how did get his account number , how did the know each other and how did he know who transfer the money

1. How can some one withdraw money from your account without a check book when it's not a ATM? If a third party can withdraw money from your account without a checkbook and without using an ATM if s/he: (a) connives with bank officials and personally withdraw money over the counter by completing withdrawal forms; (b) steals your account details, including security passwords/pass codes and transfer money electronically; (c) forges your signatures; and (d) impersonates you, to mention a few.

2. How did he (the alleged fraudster) get his (customer's) account number? The female cashier divulged the bank customers account numbers.

What an absolute zuwo you are? You cannot accurately digest a simple story line. Yet, you are critiquing the structure of the story itself, and hence you asked those two foolish questions I've answered above. What can you not understand in this simple, plain English? You failed your NECO? Your kind wouldn't have passed the Primary Six Leaving Certificate of those days. But, the likes of you would pay someone to seat your NECO and JAMB, and then pay/buy/bribe your way through the debilitating Nigerian university education system, only to call yourself a university graduate, and complaining of no jobs. Just bugger off! OK?

well i can't believe  that story am sorry , how can a bank do that without check book and someone will just withdraw your money is that possible? it can be possible if it's ATM but there is nothing like ATM fraud here , and please any link to that story.

May I ask which planet are you from? You can't believe this story and you think a national newspaperm would splash a fictitious story in print and online, passing it on to the readers as real? I'm sorry, I'm in doubt concerning the depth of your critical, rational judgment?

•Pastor Kunle Odeyemi.

I agree that this is poor journalism becuase the quality of the reporting falls far below the expected standard. What can you say? The reporting journalist(s) and editors are ostensibly products of dysfunctional, dilapidated and debilitated Nigerian educational system. However, does that render the storyline inaccurate? Not so in my opinion. It would be a serious offence (libel, to be precise) for a National newspaper to not only carry the news in print-form, but also splash it over its website, making the newsline accessible the world over. To this end, I would like to say this story/incident is true to life.

What does it say about the RCCG? Its pastors, as epitomised on discussion threads on NL, are bunch of rogues. I pray they would continue to be exposed day by day for the world to see that they are wolves in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15-20). Religion is the greatest scam on the planet earth and pastors/priests/bishops are the greatest scammers anywhere in the world. Don't be fooled!

Amitex:

Tudor,

Pls be careful of what you write here, IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE TO GOD'S ANOINTED, WELL I AM AFRAID YOU ARE SURE TO RECEIVE THE REPCERCUSSION,

It’s appalling that Amitex had the audacity to ask people to change their attitude towards these self-styled, so-called god's anointed, but failed to realise that the conversation ongoing here is the repercussion of the dastardly and disgraceful acts of these wolves in sheep's clothing whom Amitex needs to appeal to for a change of attitude. Even if Mr Adeboye and/or the RCCG didn't know that one of its pastors (i.e. Akingbola) was a crook, since knowing what everyone now know about this fraud what has Mr Enoch Adeboye and the RCCG done? You might say well, we can't tell! He may have done something(s) privately. But before anyone says that, this disgraceful matter is of significant public interests, and as far as the public is concern Mr Adeboye’s and RCCG's inaction concerning this matter is, to say the very least, very reprehensible.

Speaking of helping to change lives for the better , helping to give hope in life to drug addicts, the homeless and changing the psyche of the destitutes in Nigeria, may I invite and challenge Amex to pinpoint how the N28bn which Pastor Akingbola starched away in the UK could have impacted not only on drug addicts, the homeless and destitutes, but also on millions of jobless Nigerian graduates! Religion, in deed, is the opia of the oppressed. Religion, in deed, is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions (Karl Marx).

It's appalling that some conjecture on this thread that it's fine to do dirty, dishonest, shady deals during the weekdays in their secular calling (e.g. banking) and on Sundays "pretend" to be godly, pious, religious, spiritual, and holy person (as Erastus Akingbola has ostensibly done) is beyond me. But, this is precisely what happens in Nigeria. People who identify with a religious tradition or the other are the same set of people perpetuating all sorts and conditions of crime. These people therefore bring their religious tradition to the mud.

The earliest preacher/pastor (or whatever title you wish to ascribe to him) in the Christian church, who also had a secular job is Paul the Apostle. Paul was not only a preacher, teacher, and the author of the highest number of canonised Epistles in the New Testament, but also a tent-maker (a builder). In both worlds (sacred/church and secular/tent-making), Paul didn't live a double life. In other words, he wasn't a rouge at work and preacher at church. A preacher (be it a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish or Hindu) who cannot live-out whatever  s/he preaches in her/his day to day life wherever that may be (secular jobs, homes, families, etc) is not fit to be a preacher. Otherwise, he would be a "do what I say and not what I do" preacher. It's irrelevant whether or not Erastus Akingbola is a honorary, part time pastor. The reality is that he's a pastor. The most disheartening thing is that Erastus Akingbola is not only a pastor in the RCCG, but also one of Pastor Adeboye's right hand man. This, in my own thinking, speaks volume about the man Adeboye himself.

Religion / Nigerian Catholic Priest Pleads Guilty In Theft Case by Golders: 12:45am On Jul 18, 2010
A Catholic priest accused of embezzling about $200,000 from two Crawford County parishes and the Diocese of La Crosse entered an Alford plea to reduced charges Wednesday.

The Rev. Robert Chukwu, 59, made the plea in Crawford County Circuit Court to three counts of misdemeanor theft and entered an 18-month deferred prosecution agreement, said Jim Birnbaum, attorney for the La Crosse Diocese. The plea means Chukwu admits no wrongdoing but concedes a jury likely would have found him guilty.

Two of the three charges will be dismissed after 18 months if Chukwu obeys all conditions, Birnbaum said. A restitution amount will be determined at a later hearing.

A felony theft charge filed Jan. 29 accused Chukwu of sending money to priests, a nun, a school and family in Nigeria from 2007 to 2009, according to the complaint. He holds dual U.S. and Nigerian citizenship and had been assigned to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gays Mills and St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Soldiers Grove.

Chukwu spent $6,000 in 2008 to buy and mail a 40-foot container filled with $100,000 in artificial flowers, candlesticks, pedestal tables and other merchandise to Nigeria for profit, the complaint stated. Chukwu spent $50,000 filling another shipment.

The items were purchased with the parish’s debit card using insurance money for 2007 flood damage to the churches, according to the complaint. Chukwu also made cash withdrawals with the debit card to send to Nigeria.

Erastus Akingbola’s N28bn assets frozen by UK court

By Kingsley Ighomwenghian, Finance Editor, Lagos (With Agency Report)

Intercontinental Bank on Tuesday won round one in its legal battle in the United Kingdom where a court froze assets worth £83 million (N27.816 billion) belonging to Erastus Akingbola, the bank’s former Managing Director.

About two weeks ago, federal Attorney General and Justice Minister, Bello Adoke, had written to the British Government seeking the extradition of Akingbola, who fled to London immediately after his sack over alleged mismanagement of the bank he co-founded 20 years ago.

He and seven other bank MDs, were sacked last year, together with their Executive Directors, among others, by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) based on an audit.

He is now wanted in Nigeria to face charges of mismanagement, resulting in the bank having non-performing loans worth an estimated N700 billion.

Intercontinental Bank won the global freeze in a lawsuit accusing Akingbola of using the bank’s money to help buy apartments in London and enrich entities he controlled.

The bank got the court’s permission to add new claims to the case, alleging that Akingbola wrongfully directed the lender to buy its own shares, resulting in a loss.

The money, the bank alleged, was “misappropriated by the defendant and is due to the claimant,” adding that he used the money in “breach of fiduciary duty.”

Akingbola’s counsel, Ed Crosse, of Osborne Clarke in London, declined comment when approached by Bloomberg.

But the defence papers filed March 19 argued that the alleged transactions were either valid or were mischaracterised in the lawsuit.

“Those claims are false, and have been made by the bank without any sincere belief that they are true,” Akingbola stated in the filing.

Another lawyer of his, Segun Osuntokun, of Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP in London, also declined comment.

The British Home Office is yet to respond to Nigeria’s request for Akingbola’s extradition, which Abuja wants granted in the interest of justice.

Adoke’s letter, dated July 1, said the request “is made pursuant to the Extradition Act (Designation of Part 2 Territories) Order 2003 (SI2003 No.3334) of the United Kingdom.

“Nigeria avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the central authority of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland the assurances of its highest regards and reciprocity.

“Akingola is charged with a 28-count charge for offences of financial misappropriation, money laundering, financial malpractices, corrupt practices, and other related offences at the Federal High Court Lagos.”

The request was supported with an affidavit deposed to by a Deputy Superintendent at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rita Ibeakaku.

A certification was also attached, signed by Senior State Counsel in the Justice Ministry, Ahmed Almakura.

Justice Tijani Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Lagos had last December ordered the freezing of the accounts of Akingbola for total financial offences amounting to N346 billion and £10 million.

Also frozen by the court pending the final determination of the case, are the accounts belonging to Akingbola’s wife, his companies and agents.

AND THIS ERASTUS AKINGBOLA IS AN ORDAINED MINISTER IN THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD? AM THOROUGHLY GOBSMACKED!

the sins of this world is not yet up to that of sodom and gomorrah, we will get there someday i believe, in sodom and gomorrah they were fornicating publicly in sacred places of worship, most people still do it in secret. so we are still far fromm there.

Where is the evidence for your (highlighted) claim? What yardstick did you deploy in gauging the 'sins' of postmodernity in comparison to those of the days of Sodom and Gomorrah? About fornicating publicly, you should go deep into those white garment churches and you'll realise fornication take place right there in the so-called "sacred places of worship" in the name of "ABE ABO." Besides, do you know how many church buildings across the UK have been converted into warehouses, pubs and clubs, shoe and carpet factories, where pretty much anything goes on there. You must be deceiving yourself and likeminded ones on this forum. Get real, please.
Religion / Re: Women On Trousers In The Church by Golders: 2:14pm On Jul 10, 2010
To cite a few examples, Urhobo and Isoko men, some of whom are Christians, traditionally tie wrapper, Scottish men, some of whom are also Christians, wear skirts called Kilts both in times past and even today. Indian, Pakistani and Iraqi Christian women wear baggy and slim trousers before donning the sarees. Would Urhobo, Isoko and Scottish Christian men who wear wrappers and skirts (considered women's clothing in another culture) and  Indian, Pakistani and Iraqi Christian women who wear trousers (considered in other cultures as men's clothing) be condemned by God as sinners because they wear clothing which, in one culture pertains to the other gender, but in another culture does not?

I think people should be able to wear what they're comfortable with and which makes them feel good. If it disturbs you, look the other way. Take a walk around anywhere in London during this summer time, you find women: old and young, wearing next to nothing. The best thing to do if one feels uncomfortable about it is look the other way.
