I am not a regular visitor here. A visitor is treated with respect.

I know you visit here and that's the point. A visitor that deserves it. Some people would even scold you if you sit when not asked to.

I am a regular pest. That is what your mods and some of your members treat me like.

Every non-muslim is a pest according to the code of conduct of this section. You've always read it on top, "muslims only please..." . But not the less, herbs maybe useful pests and you can make yourself one.

You ask about contributions....did you know that one of my write ups here on islam made it to an online newspaper?

And that's good for you, if that adds to your profile - none of anybody's business. I could also get a journalist/blogger get my article here on one too.

I am one of the few non-muslims that understand islam and yet, I am treated like vermin. How much then a non muslim that deosnt understand?

You don't understand islam so much as you think buddy, you may only have some guts and points you feel is good enough to antagonize. Imagine the british had to disappoint you on your "unfair islamic criticism of the west".

Yes, some non muslims have been disrepectful. However, muslims can insult not muslims here and get away with it. Mislims are given special priviledge. I will never forget when vedaxcool derailed my thread and I was banned by maclatunji for reporting....

Are you talking small on the disrespectful non-muslims? You've got to be kidding me. My posts have been hidden too and so almost every muslim here. The thing is when you're good at choosing your words, you pass your message satisfactorily without being banned. I learnt that here. So sorry for the mac mix up, might be a mistake.

But I assure you that @ifyalways came here with a rational motive and you know what?..she found herself in islam. I'm not saying you must become a muslim, but you should bet you'll never get a pat at the back for bringing antagonising/militant views which we would find offensive to our religion, better still, you may keep off grin

This section is intolerant

And you and your folks have never stopped visiting. Please do call again grin but not with this kind of hypocrisy.

This section.....smh

I think you have been a regular visitor of this section and most likely, you and your non-muslim folks are in the best position to answer those questions. Muslims here are just fine, and have not complained at anytime to anyone.

People just like me have decided to keep mute because any of the yes or no answer given to those questions, will definitely spring up a basis of argument which we might not be up for.

Now I think we should add some more questions, because this shouldn't be only about the mods and the muslims here;

1. Haven't the some non-muslims been antagonistic with their comments and opinions.

2. Have they contributed to the section like someone who deserves to be tolerated?

Just let's treat this too...no arguments.

A true measure is confirmation of their exact height - something that the text doesn't state. You can go around in circles but it doesn't change the text

Who's going in circles here? A certainty we can hold on to is the is my grasshopper theory and its there!!! You're the one trying to change the text that is verbatim and crystal clear.

Again, if you can prove their stated heights, then you have provided facts; until you can, you speaking without words

You do the experiment and maths yourself. Multiply the number of grashopper heights that makes yours with your actual height grin

FACT FROM THE TEXT = THERE IS NO WHERE IN THE TEXT, THE HEIGHTS OF THESE GIANTS WERE MENTIONED.

The fact from the text is that the scouts looked like grasshoppers in the sights of the giants. Shikena!!! Bros you stubborn o grin

Good question? Why didn't the Hadith tell us Eve's height or the number of years it takes for man to shrink from one size to the other? grin. If an event is not capture, it simply means it wasn't capture. Only fools will sign up for such courses smiley

I agree with you, only if you tell me what you'd call a man who signs up to an account of a man looking like a grasshopper in the sights of another man worse still one who claims his holy scripture has accounts of exaggeration grin

Trashed it grin. You have already conceded that the 90 feet Adam is not scientific so there is no need to say anything else.

You would also claim you addressed my questions even when you failed to produce a single fact. My grasshopper theory is biblical, my mutation theory is scientific. pleas what's is your exaggeration and assumption theory
.

Another ignorant statement from someone that can't research grin

You've started with your assumptions again. How is it an ignorant statement?

And where in the the Bible does it show God created Adam as 90 feet tall? This is getting interesting. Please refer to the Book, the chapter and the verse(s) grin

Read clear bro... You missed the question mark grin

Yes I did. However, I never said the Bible did. The point is simple, the height of these giants were never stated. You are the one stating otherwise. I still find it interesting why the Bible came into the picture when it is the Hadith that claimed Adam was 90 feet tall grin

Please tell me how the scouts described their heights as against the giants smiley

If one waits patiently, a muslim will ALMOST ALWAYS shoot themself in the foot. First, you said the creation of Adam was millions of years old as compared the dinosuars which there thousands of years old. You are now here stating that that he lived thousands of years before the 7th century. Interesting smiley. How old is the Quran/Hadith explanation of the creation of man?

I'm just human and I agree I must have mixed it since I don't know the figures. See I admit, and that's how a big heart does, not sticking to assumptions and false excuses while debating accusing someone else of going in circles when you're the victim.

Take this from someone which Arabian lineage. The creative impulse underlying Islamic art, Islamic philosophy, Islamic science and Islamic literature came from outside Islam, from contact with older civilizations with a richer heritage. Artistic, philosophical, and scientific traditions were totally lacking in Arabia. Only poetry emerged from the Arab past, and its continued creativity owed little to spedifically Islamic inspiration. Without Byzantine art and Sassanian art there would have been no Islamic art, Islam was hostile to it's development. Similarly, without the influence of Greek philosophy and Greek science there would not have been Islamic philosophy or Islamic science for Islam was certainly ill-disposed to these "foreign sciences". For the orthodox, Islamic philosophy was a contradiction in terms and Islamic science futile.

I don't blame the guy because he is an ignorant originally, I only blame you for ingnorantly following the blind and with this, you have just shattered your prestige I hold you on, because I thought you could make your own research and you accuse me of not being able to make research. I'll help you with just one out of many. Do you know ibn sina? Please search.

smiley

An agreeable analysis, non the less an analysis

Bros, we make assumptions/possible outcomes when there is no concrete evidence. There is no concrete evidence of the height of these giants; you are the one insisting on your grasshopper theory smiley

My grasshopper theory is biblical, so you know who to blame smiley and that is the measure when their's no concrete evidence because it's what we've got, not ASSUMPTIONS

The exaggeration was brought up as a result of the "evil report". I was displaying how several people could look at the situation but here you are stating it's my stand on the matter. My stand is simple as I have answered you earlier - THERE IS NO INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE EXACT HEIGHT OF THE GIANTS. You can keep your grass-hopper theory if you like, I guess it's similar to your "mutation" theory grin

We need facts, not people's look at situations. Be factual please. My biblical grasshopper theory is factual, you can read it too.

Unfortunately, the text doesn't provide that explanation. All I offered was assumptions and possible explanations but like always; you have taken it and ran with it in another direction. Either way - the height of the GIANTS was never mentioned.

Your assumption theory is getting out of hands. Can't you produce facts?

Now that is an assumption smiley. Well done, you are following along grin

Nope mr, it is not an assumption. The height of some giants were given in detail in some biblical accounts, why not these? Okay let me make another assumption please; the tape rule was too short to measure their heights cheesy

It's amazing how this has turn to a Bible debate smiley

You had your reservations about the hadith and I thrashed it. Here, you are accusing biblical accounts as exaggerated and I was trying to protect that fine book grin

Really, please check their lineage before you shoot yourself in the foot grin

I don't care about their lineage, they aren't the anakims in question.

So where did Muslim learn that Adam was 90 feet tall?

From the bible? smiley

Coy!, you don't say. All my answers have been confined to the texts you mentioned in the Bible. Your "mutation" theory is my snooze button to laugh during this discussion. However, I admire you that you admitted you there is no scientific basis for Islam account of Adam being 90 feet.

Your exaggeration theory has not been confined or confirmed in that biblical story which makes it all worse or maybe my tickling finger to giggle smiley . And then you know I won't admire you bragging on producing nothing but assumptions and possible explanations (you admitted to that pls read above in case you forget) not facts.

Your questions at the Bible are efforts to justify such 7th century fairy tales. However, I appreciate you

Your question at the hadith is an effort to antagonise the muslim inventions and scientific pre-information in islam. However, you've tried too and thanks for the appreciation, but mind you, Adam lived thousands of years before 7th century.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Inventions That Shaped The Modern World by golpen(m): 9:47pm On Nov 27, 2013
cloudstar: golpen

My intent had nothing to do with scoring points mate. It was to address your questions smiley

Ok ok ok...it's okay.

If you are an honest debater, you will confirm that no record of their actual height was given in the Book of Numbers. For example, they weren't 60 cubit tall or 90 feet tall. You can cross reference and try and cast shadow of doubt on what was written but you can't deny that no height was specified grin

I already made that point by saying not absolute, but by saying they looked like grasshoppers in the giants' sight, that is confirmed enough a record.

I gave you a reason, it was an assumption and I called it "fear" and I stated it. Secondly, there is reason to believe they exaggerated because they brought an "evil report"

I think you should stop right here because you're getting yourself trapped. I accused you of making assumptions and you're confirming it's true that you're making assumptions, but you know assumptions aren't too acceptable in debates.

Secondly, you're going against your own self first by saying they exaggerated and now, look at what you said above. Haba!!!

Nope, it is not. They brought an evil report with an exception of Caleb. What was evil about what they saw? Nothing!.

The evil report isn't an evidence for reason of exaggeration. The evil report is that they actually looked like grasshoppers in their sights and they feared loosing, only for caleb who trusted God to win!!!

Please see my answer above

Your answer is mere assumption and you confirm it. That shows how good a debator you are grin

No it didn't Bros. The Hadith, gave an exact description of Adams height. The Bible in the book of Numbers you referred to, DIDN'T. The Bible could have easily described this giants like they way it described Og and Goliath but it DIDN'T. So, forcing a statement on the Bible doesn't change anything; it only shows your level of reasoning.

How would they have measured what they feared? grin but the description of what they could easily draft is they looked like GRASSHOPPERS in their sights, which is good enough a measure. They could have looked like younger brothers or ants! Why grasshoppers?

I don't see what makes the Bible ill Bros. I said the accounts of the scouts was exaggerated; I never mentioned the Bible exaggerated; you did smiley

Whoa! But I don't remember the bible has a mouth to speak except for what's in it and I don't remember saying the bible exaggerated, I mean some accounts in it. And what makes it worthy by that?

Again, I drew this conclusion; I never said it was a fact. If you notice, I only state what was confirmed and where things were not definite, I offer plausible reason.

You drew this conclusion? Read yourself again smiley

Oh it has - you totally ignored my explanation of Og and Goliath as well as the evidence of Giants fossils in our present day - questions that I totally addressed but you that you failed to admit to. All you are seeing is grasshoppers smiley. Perhaps you should take my approach at explaining Adams "mutation". I have been honest with you and did my best to answer your question.

Your og and goliath weren't the anakims we are discussing. Their accounts are irrelevant and a distraction to this debate. Never bring them up again. smiley

HOWEVER, THE BIBLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ADAM BEEN 90 FEET TALL. AGAIN, WE HAVE A CASE WHERE A MUSLIM IS RELYING ON THE BIBLE TO EXPLAIN THE HADITH. THE GIANTS IN THE BIBLE ARE NOT RELATED TO ADAM - ARE THEY?

The bible is what you believe in and you wouldn't believe an hadith. Maybe a bible account may help you learn. That's what the muslims are like. We learn from others and we don't sit in peering at the window of our religion to criticise.

So, let us not side-step the issue. Islam can't explain 90 feet Adam and you claiming it's "mutation" is simply LUDACRIS

You just say you are coy on your account of the biblical anakims which maybe embarrassing to you and you assuming that account is exaggerating is eeerrrmm... SNOOP DOGG!!! cheesy

Whoa!!! I must confess you really strived so hard to tackle the question and here you gave it a nice try. A nice try I must confess, but don't you think saying you have addressed my questions when you actually haven't rightly, is a way of trying to score cheap points?

But here the verse clearly states;

Numbers 13:33: And there we saw the giants,
the sons of Anak, which come of the giants:
and we were in our own sight as
grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Upon all the epistle you have painstakingly written, what can be deduced referring to the heights of the giants which the reporters said they look to them as if they (the reporters) were like grasshoppers, is that the reporters exaggerated their heights.

My question would have been 'why would they exaggerate? But thank God you've given your answer in your previous text that you don't know, but that's a pity. A pity because;

1. No part of the story gives an account of the fact that the scouts actually exaggerated, so I'll take the exaggeration excuse to be a fabrication of your own assumption.

2. Reason for exaggeration, you do not know, so why would you say they exaggerated?

3. The bible gave the account of their height (though not absolute) by giving the measures of the scouts height compared to the giants' - 'like grasshoppers'

4. Saying their's an exaggerated report in the bible is ill of that precious book grin . It means the bible is not worth referring to as an holy scripture. Imagine there are some worldly cases/places where you won't even dare to exaggerate, not even when you're in the lowest level courts.

5. Just saying to make 5 grin , the size of the fruits is not a measure of how and why the giants are that huge, but if it really does, a man of og's or goliath's hugeness could manage grape fruits sizeable enough for a warrior scout to carry.

Please make your excuses more tenable. I think this long epistle isn't getting anywhere, but portraying the bible as a scripture of exaggerations which can't be followed hence, calling it a lying piece. Thanks.

Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in
those days; and also after that, when the
sons of God came in unto the daughters of
men, and they bare [children] to them, the
same [became] mighty men which [were] of
old, men of renown.

Num 13:33 And there we
saw the giants, the sons
of Anak, [which come] of
the giants: and we were
in our own sight as
grasshoppers, and so we
were in their sight.

Deu 2:10 The Emims dwelt therein in times
past, a people great, and many, and tall, as
the Anakims;

Deu 2:11 Which also were accounted giants,
as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them
Emims.

My questions;

1. Do you believe that the anakims who looked down at average men as though they were grasshoppers, as mentioned above once existed?...

2a. If yes, do you have any fossil or otherwise record of such humans to have lived?

2b. If no, would you say the bible is a lying piece?

3. What would be their measured height if they looked down at average men as a man looks at a grasshopper? According to the bible.

I dey still wait for your answer Bros

Again, side-stepping the question and playing smart. Please prove Adam was 90 feet tall smiley

Perhaps if you provide the proof that Adam or any human was ever 90 feet tall, my statement will make more sense to you

It is only rubbish when it comes to Islam smiley. It is only in Islam where a human can be 90 feet tall and there is no proof of it smiley

I would if you could offer a specimen for me to work on smiley. I hope I don't have to wait too long

Provide your 90 feet Adam and I would easily debunk it. Or provide any human remains over 50 feet tall and I would debunk it. That is all I have been asking for. Imagine us experimenting or trying to conclude on a subject matter that doesn't exist or that we have no evidence of. How irrational is that! Perhaps that is how you learned Science, I didn't learn science that way.

Bros, your theory is just what it is THEORY. It is only theory because you can't apply it to a 90 feet Adam. Will it work on a 6 feet human, of course - why? We have tried it on humans and it works. So, your analysis can claim it can work on your imaginary Adam, until you can provide proof of your Adam or any or human that was ever 90 feet tall, you are groping in the dark

I fail to see how Sarah's pregancy has anything to do with Adam. I also wonder what Sarah has to do with Adam? smiley. If it's not irrelevant then I don't what is smiley

The simple fact id evident - you can't prove Adam was 90 feet tall. Your X-men mutation is a joke and all you have been successful is doing is going around in circles.

PROOF! Really. So, your proof basically is to take your word for it grin. So, Adam is so old and all the people that were 90 feet tall, their abodes, their tools and their entire existence is lost because their existence was millions of years old. Again, you have proven nothing Bros. You can't give one account of any human (NOT A SINGLE ONE) that was over 50 feet. You are here claiming the dinosaurs are thousands of years old - you sure say you go school? Please go read on your dinosaur history and stop making a laughing stock of yourself. If Adam and his likes (90 feet people) are millions of years old. What is the hadith and Quran time-line of the existence of mankind?

Attempt? Are you really serious? All you have said in summary is "I have no evidence of Adam been 90 feet tall". If that is your stand, I will gladly engage you on the Bible scripture you referenced.

You have kobalised yourself grin ... Ok ok, I agree I have no evidence Adam was 90ft tall. Please engage me by answering the questions I put forward.

You should have waited to read the remaining.

To nullify the possibility would be to present only ONE FIND. [size=14pt]PLEASE REFER TO ONLY ONE ARCHEOLOGICAL FIND OF A HUMAN OVER 50 FEET TALL[/size]

Rephrase your english or go back to primary school.

Cha, when did body mass index come in the picture, I was talking of the person's height. And here you are again, taken my statement and running off in another direction smiley

You don't seem to know what you're saying again o. What did you say would have made him crumble on himself?

Basic science bros, basic science.

Rubbish science bro, that's rubbish science.

Really, give me an example of any animal that is over 50 feet tall where this has worked

Its my claim, so you give me an analysis of how that would fail.

Irrelevant to the discussion

Irrelevant to the discussion

Irrelevant to the discussion

How is it irrelevant? Please stop joking, they are the measures that would have been taken in order to avoid the VACUUM LOCK you mentioned.

Please prove this my giving a practical example

You got my analysis don't you? If no, then you'll have to go read your ali and simbi again. My claim is that every part responsible for the body activities in this sense is proportional to each other. Debunk it by analysing that it is false, simple!!!

Can you provide proof of this imaginary man, perhaps not Adam himself but at least one find of the millions of giants between 90-50 feet tall. THAT IS ALL I HAVE ASKED YOU TO PROVIDE. You haven't been able to so far. You have called me a hateful and have avoided answering my question.

Can you criticise any of my analysis? You haven't been able to so far. All you do is say my claims are wrong and irrelevant without proving them wrong. Please argue like an intellectual or I'll think you're just keeping yourself in the argument with all this nonsense.

lol, now this is laughable. Again, a muslim leaves his Quran and Hadith and goes to the Bible for his rescue. What has Sarah got to do with Adam being 90 feet tall?

Imagine you don't know anything about islam. The muslims also have the story of Abraham (as) and his two wives with them. Sarah's case is only a proof of my xmen mutation theory that man is prone to.

How does this prove Adam is 90 feet tall. Why can't you just provide evidence instead OF GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES BROS

Its just another of my Xmen mutation theory.

You haven't even touched my question Bros. So far, you have talked about the imaginary Islamic Adam and told us about his nostrils smiley. Think about it for a second, we have evidence of the dinosaur, the mammoths, the elephants, the giraffes, the whales. Why is your 90 feet Adam an exception?

I have given you a proof that a 90ft Adam could have existed and here you can't fault my analysis so you want me to give you a snapped photo of him abi! further as an archeologist first! grin and mind you, the dinosaur which is the oldest of all you've mentioned here is said to have happened thousands of years ago. Adam died millions of years ago and I've not seen or heard of any record of anything millions ago, found in this time.

But atleast I've attempted your question even though you aren't satisfied. Will you please attempt mine now and stop dodging?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Inventions That Shaped The Modern World by golpen(m): 4:33am On Nov 26, 2013
Out mr cloudstar may become the joke of the century after giving us an assumption of his own imagination rather than scientific facts. Let me get straight to your three claims;

1. Owing to the fact that the archeological world might not be able to proof that man was once the tallest being does not nullify the possibility. In fact, archeologists agree to the fact that some beings might have existed and gone to extinction in this world that they have no record of. So asking them to start looking for the skeleton of Adam who died millions of years ago is almost not logical.

2. It is scientifically proven that your weight is proportional to the cube of scale and that is why in calculating your body mass index an abnormality in the proportion is counted obesity or otherwise. Therefore, even a 1000 feet tall man has a weight proportional to his height and the tensile strength of his bones, so he wouldn't have crumbled on his weight.

3. Where did you get your highest height theory from, uncle cloudstar?

As the scale of an animal increases the body weight and volume increase with the cube of scale. The volume of blood flow required to feed that bulk also increases with the cube of scale. The cross sectional area of the arteries and the veins required to carry that blood flow only increases with the square of scale. This means that there is an area-volume relationship in order to carry out a perfect circulation. Learn please, that there some other factors that will be put in line to aid perfect circulation of a 90ft tall man without a vacuum lock (for your mind) grin

1. The surface area of the lungs for absorbing oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide.

2. The surface area of intestines for absorbing food nutrients.

3. The surface area of the skin for dispersing heat and waste.

4. The cross sectional area of the arteries, capillaries and the veins which make up the heart, for the transportation of the blood carrying the oxygen, food nutrients, carbon dioxide et al.

Now let me describe the look of a 90ft tall Adam (as) for you.

He was a 90ft tall man with a bone of tensile strength N/m2 as proportional to the height and standard weight complying with the BMI. He must have had large nostril with enough trapping device grin , large surface area of lungs, intestines, skin and a sizeable cross sectional area of the every heart tissues just for a 90ft tall man. Please do the maths yourself and keep the answers.

But please before you go, here's a proof of my Xmen mutation theory.

It was still possible even by a means of miracle for sarah to give birth in her 80s and according to my Xmen mutation theory, you don't want to see your granma in a preggie pot belly expecting a baby in her 80s grin

The average age for females to attain menopause in the 1960s/70 was around 60 years, but now we have a record of early menopause of age 35. How people are open to changes.

And I could talk and talk about some more, but please you may now answer my previous questions as regards the giants in the bible.but while you rack your mind for answers, make I sleep abeg.

Again, the question still stands, please prove that Adam was 90 feet tall; if you can't - then just say so

Do I need to proof anything to you? You don't need a proof, you need a pill.

I don't want to laugh at you for saying you agree because the skeletal system of apes and men are almost the same and that is possible, but a mutation in height mustnt have been possible. So that same human being undergoing some sort of changes overtime is impossible? You must be joking. But you haven't answered my question; have you seen a fossil record for yourself to prove your claims?

I'll prove it to you that Adam was 90ft tall on a condition that you can answer these two questions;

1. Do you believe the anakim giants existed according to the bible references you got? If yes, please give us a proof.

2. And if a normal human being could look as though a grasshopper in their (anakim's) sight, then what is their estimated height?
Celebrities / Lessons I Learnt From Blindness - Cobhams Asuquo by golpen(m): 7:49pm On Nov 25, 2013
Cobhams Asuquo gave the talk below recently at TEDxEUSTON where he was one of the speakers.

I’m a dreamer, and I don’t mean that in the literal sense or in the literal context of going to sleep and dreaming even though that’s very nice because that’s when I get to drive and play golf.

But a picture of an average guy who lies down and faces the ceiling and just dreams away. Fortunately for me, a lot of things I have dreamt about in my life have come true. I believe strongly that one of the strong elements that fuel my very strong sense of imagination and my ability to dream is the gift of blindness. And I’m going to share with you, a couple of things that I have leant and a couple of life lessons that could be invaluable to you as well that I have learnt from Blindness.

So to start with, I will state the obvious fact that I was born blind. No one else in my family of six children is blind. There’s no known cause. No links. No explanation. Just the reality that I cannot see with my eyes.
I was born and raise in the military barracks. I don’t mean the great side of the military barracks but the other side of the military barracks. I lived in a small block of 18 two bedroom flats. I shared a flat my two parents, my three siblings and whatever stray pet came out way at a time. As well as my father’s Honda Roadmaster 180 Motorcycle, which slept in the living room with me and my siblings for fear that one of its mirrors might be stolen by morning.

In my neighborhood there were always something  to look forward to. My mornings were characterized by news of whose pumping machine had been stolen by morning or squabbles between neighbours over who had eaten their chicken. Actually some people try to resolve the chicken situation by tying to attach a piece of red things on their chicken legs. I don’t know how well it works…
Now, blindness does not have any physical, psychological or social meaning.  Since I’ve never experienced sight, I wasn’t aware that I was without sight. And so, I indulged in the innocence of young boyhood. I ran downstairs, jumped over gutters, played hard. Fought even harder. And got into any imaginable trouble that a Skinny young child could get into.

On a number of Occasions, I ran into walls. Ran into people. Ran into furniture’s so hard that that observers will shake their head and say in Pidgin English:

‘Person wey we dey feel sorry for, e no dey feel sorry for himself.’

Of course my response to such a rebuke was to scurry off and catch up with my friends and hide whatever stray bruises I had sustained away from my mother’s disapproving eyes.
Initially, scoffed at other people’s well
meaning concern and pity, because I do not understand what the force was all about. As I grew older and I gained more understanding of the intricacies of living as a sightless person in a world designed for sighted people, I was faced with the looming possibility of failure in my life. But what I actually considered to be much worse was people were ready to excuse my failure because of my disability.  Which brings me to my first lesson.

Do not Excuse Failure, for any reason on any account

Now, I don’t mean we should be unmerciful and impatient towards those who are either less-able or weak or disadvantaged because I believe that we should share one another’s burden, because we’ll all face low points in our lives.  What I’m saying is this. That failure will come. But the same way that it comes that we should see to it that goes. Instead, what I’ve observed is that whenever there’s a larger than life seemingly insurmountable flaw,  in a system, in our cities, in our leaders, even in our own character, we tend to excuse the failure. We overlook it. We pardon it. We indulge it. And become even comfortable with it. Sometimes, we even find different terms for the failure. In my country, we sometimes call it the Nigerian Factor. So, if something isn’t working the way it should, we shake our heads, and we automatically blame it on the Nigeria Factor. And then we move on with our lives.

But see by excusing failure, and blaming it on some systematic flaw, we miss the opportunity to scale through those seemingly insurmountable obstacles. To elevate ourselves and elevate others.

When I turned 10, I was enrolled in a Primary Boarding School for the Blind, fast forward to graduation day, teachers and other well wishers were giving us advise on going into the outside world. We were forwarned that we would come across people who be genuinely mean to us. People will snatch away our guide canes, pull out our typewriter ribbons, not give us the correct change, and generally just take advantage of us because we are blind.

And from my experience, and I’m sure most of you must have discovered, not all public opinion is correct opinion.
So, I personally decided that I didn’t want to want to worry myself about Guide Cane Snatchers, Ribbon Type writer thieves, and the likes. I decided not to take that advice. I don’t know if it was conscious, but decided to just trust. I figured that there was so many unfortunate things in life that has happened to you regardless of whether or not you were blind. So, why should I heap on an extra burden of worry on myself  just because I’m blind.

This is my second lesson, and it’s a tough one, to Trust.

I have learnt this from blindness to trust. Sometimes, even when I have no reason to. And as you can imagine I have learnt this lesson over and over again. now, as a child I was quite a Kid to have fun with and play little pranks on. My older brother taught me how to jump over open street gutters so anytime I was walking with friends and they inform me that we were approaching a gutter, I would jump – No questions asked. Pretty soon, I discovered that my friends were telling me to jump even when there were no gutters.  Just so they could have a laugh. But even after I found out, I still continued to jump. I chose to trust them because quite honestly, staying out of the smelly sewage gutters was very very important to me.

Now some people might ask. Can’t a person be too trusting? But I think trust has no expiration date. Blindness has taught me to keep trusting. To keep hoping. To keep believing. And by the way in case you haven’t heard, technology came along, thankfully. And not only did it take the rhythms from the typewriter, it also took away the typewriters themselves and replaced them with computers and screen readers.

And as for my guide cane story, I’ve yet to meet one friend of mine whose had their white canes snatched from them.

As a matter of fact, at some point I got too desperate and  I went ahead in my first year in the University to buy myself a Mercedes Benz Wagon. It broke down on the first day I bought it. And I remember my friend, we were trying to change the tire, and anyone who called me I will say, you know what, I’m having a little car trouble. And thankfully, we can afford better cars and I have a faithful driver, and he’s under the watchful eyes of my wife. So no guide cane ‘stealers’ and all of that.

Be blind to be focused

So speaking of my wife. My wife sometimes go shopping together. Now note, I stressed the word, sometimes. Because while most men would share my sentiments towards shopping. I really feel the same way for a different set of reasons. Because shopping, as a female sport, and I do believe it is, it is about feasting your eyes on goods and things of assort. So you can generally imagine how quickly I will lose interest.

Now some time ago, my wife and I, we walked into a duty free shop at an Airport. We wanted to buy a bottle of water. Before I knew it, she had stopped by to browse through a magazine, had picked up a book… seemingly normal actions for her but I found it quite alarming.

Now, here we were. We went in to buy an item but ended up browsing for other stuffs. And that was when it hit me. Sight, sometimes, is a distraction. Now, I have to say that when my wife goes shopping, no matter how good her intentions are to purchase only the items on her list, she somehow manages to come home with extras.

Good Deals! She will like to call them.  She knows a lot about good deals, and sales and half sales.  And I have to say my wife is a fantastic wonderful woman.
Now don’t get me wrong, sight is a precious gift. But on your way to your destination, what you see, can also be a big distraction from your goal. So, I have learnt that you have to be blind in order to be focused. Focus is blindness in a sense. I'm sure you can relate to this because you have been focused on your goal and attained your successes by being blind to several things in your life.
Now, we live in a culture that esteems sight over blindness. And associates blindness with weakness. Yet, blindness in all of its weakness, I have drawn some key strength in my life’s journey.

When I love the veil of childhood innocence, the brutal reality of blindness stared me in the face. Self pity, and failure loomed over my shoulder. Some, I’m sure would have excused me if I became a failure. But I found it more fulfilling to break away from the expectations of mediocrity. To successfully navigate and negotiate my way through life. Even if it ruffled the feather of those who genuinely cared about me.

Salaam to you sisters in the house. I've been following this thread for a while now, but this is my first time of commenting.

I've read the stories and they have all been touching such that I asked my mum about it when I visited her today (she was ttc for 13 years) and when she was telling me of how ttc felt, she couldn't hold back the tears. I guess she still couldn't believe she has these 3 grown boys. But one thing I noticed she told me and I think I've heard from several testimonies is this; she had my elder brother (the first born) when she already gave up giving birth and was almost going for adoption. This same case, I've heard from some couples too, so I deduced two things;

1. When we're down to nothing, ALLAH (swt) is always up to something. So keep up the hope in ALLAH.

2. I think excitement, depression and worries may contribute to the delay. From my examples, the pregnancy came not because they gave up, but because they were in a relaxed mode, giving up, so you may try this; relax as much as you can while you hope on ALLAH, shake off those worries, do your supplications and take your medications while trying.

In shaa ALLAH, pious kids of your own will recite the holy Qur'an into your hears. And your tears by then will be different from this. It's going to be tears of joy as you hold them, not wanting them to go.

I have discussed with several christians, even here on NL, and your argumentative style is just the same. You won't finish what your chewing before taking another piece in your mouth. Is it a shock to you that the penalty for apostacy in the bible is death? What happened to the proofs I requested? Oh! Maybe I got you there, so your chances of staying in the argument is hammering on an answered question.

See, islam is not a religion that is preached by all means. If you don't know, phillipians 1:18 has thought you how to evangelise. For those going through this thread, Read;

"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,"

You see?, evangelism even by lies!!! And that is what they tell you about waking the dead and the NDEs. But the bible has debunked their claims. Hebrew 9:27, please read;

"And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment"

Please get out of this illusions. Travel to the real world. Reinhard bonnle couldn't raise the dead the twice he visited nigeria. He couldn't even make the lame walk. All he did was stage acting. He refused when they brought correct lame abokis from sabo. You better wisen up!!

And before you say I'm dudging your questions, let me ask you this. Please give me a proof from the Qur'an that there's a good reward for killing a non-muslim?

Please get out of won ni won pe and take a trip to the real world!!! Make your findings yourself just as the bible has ordered you to investigate on every issue and hold on to the truth. Imagine you'll be sinning by laying false accusations okay?

ebenice: Thanks n lìke i said earlier i aint a novice 2 d islamic faith n doctrines. 2 ur ultimate suprise my mum has an islamic background but whose nw a devoted christain..infact am proud to tel u dat my best frnd is a muslim .waheed by name.so knw that am not an alien to islam n neither av any thin against them..u said islam gives peace nd u r only judge by our intentions gud but u see how can i live n only be judge by my intentions? What about my actions.? if there is one clear thing like abt islam is just the devotion dat muslim gives to it.but regardin ur answer as to muslin nt avin anythn against other faith is a capital NO..i got bountiful of proves to disclaim ur answers i dnt evn need 2 do any research it obvious and u knw that so dnt pretend.

I don't think you understand what you're putting forward. My answer of intentions in worship was to your accusations that islam is of total body practice and now you're saying another thing. Now get it straight. For every practice, their's always an intention. That intention, together with the practice (solat, fasting and all) with your sincerity is judged all together. This means that your deed is not complete and rewarding without the good intentions. Hope you got that. And on human relationship please read my previous post, this time, with clear minds.

Furthermore, i ask u 2 explain quran ch.pter 9 for me u intionaly omit dat.n u acuse me bein cynical in my belive toward muslims

What is it you want me to explain

Most muslim who convert 2 christains dat i knw were persecuted nd death treathenin ,sum were even run mad by their sects..this is wat i knw nd is writen in d quran dat d father of the convert shud be d first 2 start d jihad .wat do u say 2 this?

I hate it when you just give your assertions based of what you've heard, claiming it is what you know. Can you please give me the verse of the Qur'an where it says the father is to be the first to carry out the motive. Imagine you don't even understand the meaning of 'jihad' and you're ranting saying you are a scholar of islam. For your information, here's the biblical ruling on apostacy, hope you read happy;

Deuteronomy 13:6-9 "If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying: Let us go and worship other gods (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other, or gods of other religions), do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people."

Also let us look at Deuteronomy 17:3-5 "And he should go and worship other gods and bow down to them or to the sun or the moon or all the army of the heavens, ..... and you must stone such one with stones and such one must die."

And so many more.

I stil maintain my stands on the ambiguity soroundin the islamic faith.just dont expect a learned person like me 2 just belive u that i wil get peace if i practice islam. I dint tell u dat i lack peace. I mean i need a better prove of what is obtainable in islam aside that..n if am wrong i acept dat but is it true dat there is a reward for any1 who kill a non.muslim? Pls be sincere.

Islam is not a religion that lies to you. The fact is that as human, you are not guaranteed of a challenges free life. You are only encouraged to submit wholely to your creator even in times of sorrow, and you supplicate to only HIM alone, then in doing that, you may earned internal peace even if you fall on the wrong side of issues and ALLAH may replace with a better one. The one testimony I'm sure of is that I've put to you earlier. Thanks.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Inventions That Shaped The Modern World by golpen(m): 8:35am On Nov 25, 2013
novicali: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.(Gen 1:1) And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.(Gen 2:7). The Bible verses above imply that there is a creator called God who created man and breath life into man and man became a living being. Therefore man got life from his God and the living gene of God was pass on to man, the creative ability inclusive. This shows that every man existing or have exited under this sun has endowment in him (when I talk of man I mean man and woman) to create things (Fabricate, manufacture, produce and invent). This has nothing to do with your religion, because you are a Muslim today right, and your forefathers were heathen or idol worshipers and it is very correct that you might have inherited some genes from them that is in your traits today. So a Chinese, a European man, a Yoruba man, an Ibo man a Hausa Man has the ability to do anything he wants because it is inherent. This has nothing to do with salvation, it is only the man's religious inclination that will produce at the end where he is going to spent eternity.

Heaven knows that you're fumbling. SMH!!!

ebenice: Thanks @golpen am impress but nt convince .judgin by d fact u did say wat u knew. But my worries is if at anytime i meet a muslim i want 2 be confortable bein around them ,but this questions embedens in my mind make it hard 4 me relate with them wholely n heartily thats why i ask them here. Nomata hw i try n try 2 reason with d learnerd ones sum wud just cum with sum atitude n spoil d show so i suggest i dnt want d same here

I'd enjoin you to make your researches. The probelm I think you may have is that you might have been fed with enough ill impressions of the muslims that affects your relationship them. Your impression about muslims makes it hard to relate with them, so when next you see a muslim, erase your filthy impression and give them a benefit of the doubt.

6. That is part of the testimonies you'll give as a muslim. I have a feeling that you must have thought the same of christianity - unanswered question. Islam encompasses every bit of one's life and when you are a total muslim, you gain your peace and thoughts of it being a myth is off.

7. The practice of islam is with the total body soul and spirit. In fact the prophet (saw) says, every action is judged by intentions, which means your intention is first checked before the action. Searing allegiance to Allah (iman) which is the first pillar of islam goes beyond speaking of the tongue (though the tongue must speak it), it is an heart held creed that must not be shaken off. Likewise other islamic practices too. Praying, fasting and all.

8. Here I think you need to read about the christian crusaders and in your intelligent mind, you'll realise that it is christianity which has been spread by force. Their's no compulsion in the religion of islam. Those who perpetuate evil acts are cowards who only do so in their personal interest. They only use islam as a cover.

9. A true muslim is one, who submits completely himself to the will of ALLAH swt in expectance of self peace.

10. We don't believe that Jesus christ died. The qur'an confirms that he was never dead, it was only made to them to look so. What can save man, believing in ALLAH, adhering to what HE enjoins and permits and keeping away from what HE forbids. Then man shall be saved.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Questions I Wuld Love 2 Ask A Muslim. Pls I Need Strait Answers. by golpen(m): 11:07pm On Nov 24, 2013
I must say I feel privileged to be commenting on this thread, but my answers may not serve you that well and I believe in shaa ALLAH, my fellow knowledgeable brethren shall shed more light.

I'll answer the ones I can quickly answer now and leave the remaining to who wants to answer them. I may not be able to give out references because its late and I'm lazy tonight. You'll either get it from others or from me when I'm up.

1. Islam promotes every good virtue. Swearing allegiance to ALLAH and testifying that Muhammad (saw) is His messenger is just the first and the most important of the five pillars of islam (which I suppose you know them).

2. Islam never preaches hostility to any different person by any standard. In fact, islam preaches that and enjoins muslims to live and act towards others peacefully for there and then, a muslim may pass across the beauty of islam to others. The holy prophet (saw) lived peacefully with the christians, jews and pagans of his time. In fact, they transacted business, entered into treaties and exchanging gifts wasn't forbidden.

Though our religion is meant to shape us to a better person, the behaviour, temperament, attitude or actions of a muslim may sometimes go out of the preachings of islam. This is because we are human and that can't be ruled out. I have also witnessed hostilities from christians too, but I don't take it against the religion because some christians have been good also. I think the person should be questioned here, rather than the religion.

3. 'Islam' as a word is coined from two roots 'aslama' (submission) and 'salaam' (peace) so by definition, islam means the total submission to the will of GOD (ALLAH swt) in order to attain peace. The only testimony I'm sure you'll have amongst many others is that of a sincerely heart felt peace of you serving your creator in the right sense. Many that converted to islam have always confessed to getting answers to that those un-answered questions and earning that long searched peace. This may require you make some findings rationally before concluding.

4. There's no compulsion as regards religion in islam. My immediate uncle is a pastor who converted from islam and he is still alive with his all converted christian family. We still do the normal family things together and we're still close as families.

The death sentence for apostacy in islam that most people misconcept is only applicable to a state that is islamically governed. And the death sentence is given when the converts tries to pollute the air with his newly found faith. He has no problem if he keeps his new faith to himself. It is just like a citizen renouncing his citizenship of a country in order to chicken out to another country. And the last time I checked, the ruling for apostacy in the bible is the same or even worse.

5. Islam is a very rational religion. Firstly, I'll like to put it that marrying more than one wife - 4 maximum, is only voluntary in islam.

Logically, the ratio of female to male population is a wide margin, say 10:1 if I'm not underestimating. We have countries where ladies are about 11 million more, that as an example, one man to one woman will mean about 11 million unmarried women, which tells a result on the society, e.g lesbianism, prostitution and all.

Morally, marrying more than one wife is allowed in order to prevent a man from furnication. Instead of hanging out with different mistresses, which affects the family and yourself, why not safely marry another wife and keep your family and self?.

On education, islam promotes female education to a large extent. Some of the prophet's wives are educated. We have learned females too.
