Commended To The Word - Saturday, September 12th .

Pastor Chris

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

The Apostle Paul couldn't think of a better way to bless the brethren at Ephesus than to commend them to the Word of God. As Christians, we're born of the Word (1 Peter 1:23); the Word gave birth to us; therefore, our lives can only be built and sustained by the Word.

From the moment you made Jesus the Lord of your life, the building process began; the Word builds you spiritually, mentally, physically, financially, and in all areas of life.
Furthermore, the Word is able to "give" you an inheritance among all those that are sanctified. This is quite an interesting thought. The Spirit of God, through the Apostle Paul, wrote this to the Church. Why would He say this to Christians who already have an inheritance in Christ Jesus? First, understand that He wasn't talking about the ownership of the inheritance; rather, he was talking about the inheritance being delivered into your hands.

For example, you might be the rightful owner of an inheritance, e.g., a landed property, and never be able to get into it, perhaps because of litigations due to difficult individuals claiming ownership of the same property. In the same way, though all things are legally yours in Christ Jesus, there're rebel holders of authority —Satan and his cohorts— who often try to sway God's people from enjoying their inheritance. The Word of God is able to literally deliver your inheritance into your hands, to enjoy, irrespective of the activities of the adversary.

If you'd constantly meditate on the Word, not only will you be built for success, excellence and the victorious life, the Word will also deliver into your hands, that which is rightfully yours in Christ. So, open up your appetite for the Word. Bombard your mind with Scriptures until you're completely inundated, and you're configured to think from the Word's perspective only.

Prayer...
Dear Father, with faith, meekness, and gladness, I receive your engrafted Word, which is able to build me up and deliver unto me what rightfully belongs to me in Christ. Your Word is effectual in me today, producing in me what it talks about, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Further Study:
James 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

1 Timothy 4:15-16
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Jesus' teaching was to his disciples

the ones who received the Holy Spirit in the upper room.
Wrong again.

They considered what Jesus taught them before his death as instructions to be followed, not just learned from.
Fact is, they didn't even believe Him enough (don't come and say that I said they didn't believe Him o) ... They were even surprised to hear he was not in the tomb, even after He told them He was gonna rise again.

The disciples knew Jesus by the flesh. (2 Corinthians 5:16) They didn't know Him by the Spirit, for to them, He was to them a great Jewish teacher. Peter however said something by the Spirit, but he didn't really understand what he said. No wonder, after Jesus died, they all went to their different occupations, even though Jesus told them He'd be back again.

It was during Jesus' ascension (not before His death as you falsely claim) that He told them to make disciples of the nations, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever He commanded them:

Granted they may have been limited in their understand
They knew Him after the flesh.. Simple.

Well, not to prolong matters. I think (in the light of scriptures) that Christians are suppose to learn from the old testament (not live by it) in the light of the complete revelations of Christ and his finished works. These people of old had great times and experience with God but they don't have Christ and him death\crucified, burial & resurrection. These are the 3 anchors of our faith as believers!
.. But their salvation was hinged on the same Jesus, not so?

I don't think you answered the question - What should Christians do with lessons of old when it is no longer valid on this side of the cross; that is, issues of the old that doesn't balance out with Christ's teachings and His finished works
Hmmm... I'm reading on

Take for instance, there're teaching of Christ that contradict the teachings of Moses and lifestyle people had been living before Christ came - e.g, Elijah calling down fire from heaven on God's\his enemies but Christ's teaching clearly kicked against that when He corrected His disciples.
No na.. You're heading for the rocks, although you may be right in a light. Folks who rain than fire on their enemies don't know much of the scriptures... That's why we have to preach na.

What I'm trying to point out is... Thinks like;

Giving
Faithfulness
Faith (folks who did extraordinary things.. Samson, David, elisha/elijah etc)
Obedience
Etc

They all have lessons for us in the NT life.

But today, we have churches and their G.Os mounting pulpit and leading prayers of fire on enemies and we see this is contrary to the teachings\revelations of Christ on this side of the cross & his finished work. How should Christians handle these teachings is what I'm asking.
I understand... Most atimes, we pray to break such strongholds, that's what we get when we've being we've been wrongly indoctrinated... And we fight the devil like he's not been defeated by Jesus.

Bottomline, Christians should understand that it is in Christ that we're complete and need no addition. If the word of God says I'm complete in Christ...I don't know what else I should believe if not the word.
Can you then explain Romans 15:4?

So, if the teachings of old or examples of old are not valid on this side of the cross, Christian are to follow Christ and not the old! It's like following shadows when the substance is available
Now, that's your saying, not mine. Thanks wink

There're many things wrong in the church today but I'll save some issues for another time.
Pheeeew... Thanks for saving us the time. grin

Passion For Soul-Winning - Friday, September 11th .

Pastor Chris

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16).

As a child of God, you must be passionate about soul-winning; it must burn in your heart to take the Gospel to the lost. You're the custodian of the Gospel. It's therefore your divine responsibility to publish it around the world. When you understand that Jesus is the only way, you'll stand up for the Gospel.

The Apostle Paul in Acts 13:38-39 said, "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man (Jesus) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." There're no options to the Gospel. No wonder David said, "Send us around the world with the news of your saving power..." (Psalm 67:2 TLB).

In David's day, the Gospel hadn't been fully made manifest, but he had insight into the revelation of Christ the Messiah. The time hadn't come and the redemptive work of Christ hadn't been consummated, but Christ now has come. He has died and has risen, and now lives in our hearts. Halleluiah! No Christian is left out of the instruction to preach the Gospel. It should be your passion!

Fuel your passion for the Gospel. Keep preaching and talking to others about Jesus. Discuss the Gospel continually with those who are also fired up in their spirits for the Gospel and intercede in prayer for the lost who are yet to hear the Word of salvation.

Prayer...
Dear Father, I thank you for the news of your saving power, the Gospel. I'm grateful and honoured for the privilege to be a minister of reconciliation. Through me, many are coming to the knowledge of the Gospel of Christ, which you've graciously committed to my trust, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Primary similarity between Covenant and Testament #1, is that, they both fundamentally are agreements,
however with covenant, sometimes it can be a one sided agreement, other times its an all party involved mutual agreement
Quite apt an explanation. Great job.

Primary difference between Covenant and Testament #1, is that, covenant takes effect immediately after an oath
which usually or at times, involves blood shedding of some sort or kind, to make it official, binding or legal
An example of a covenant without blood shedding is the Edenic one
An example of a covenant with blood shedding is the Abrahamic Covenant (i.e. blood shedding via circumcision)
Debosky... Ain't this lovely? We're all seeding you with knowledge... Freely. cheesy

Primary difference between Covenant and Testament #2, is that, reiterating, covenant takes effect immediately after an oath
and unlike a Testament, it doesnt wait for the death or doesnt need the death of any of the participants before its application
Someone was here asking me who died for the 'OT' to take effect. undecided

The new agreement or covenant was done at the last supper (i.e. Matthew 26:28, the Covenant ceremony),
the testament or His last will, however wouldnt take effect until after His death
Debosky... Come with a pen and notepad, please. smiley

Exodus 24:8
Then Moses took the blood from the basins and splattered it over the people, declaring,
"Look, this blood confirms the covenant the LORD has made with you in giving you these instructions."

Jeremiah 31:31-34
31The day is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah.
32This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand
and brought them out of the land of Egypt.
They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the Lord.

33“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the Lord.
“I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts.
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
34And they will not need to teach their neighbors,
nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’
For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already,” says the Lord.
“And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”
Great!

Matthew 26:28
for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people.
It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
Sweet.

Well, maybe appropriately, it marked the end of an old covenant or old agreement
Aha...now,you're getting there. Nice job cool

It is true that there are at least up to seven different covenants or agreements in the Bible,
which spanned from Adam in Eden, to Noah and in regards to the flood, to Abraham and in regards to the Promise, to the Israelites and in regards to the Promise land and to etcetera other agreements or covenants
cheesy grin grin

But since no one died before the application of the so called ''OT'',
then in a manner suitable for such a case like this, ''OT'' should be called old covenant or old agreement, as opposed to an ''OT'' tag
Wonderful piece... Awful conclusion. Great news is, I'm here to fix it. wink

I posted this few lines away..

Jesus Christ is that single person upon which the entire Old Testament is based.

God's agreement (covenant) with the Hebrews (Exodus 19 through to chapter 24 ) under Mosaic Law all hinged upon the coming Messiah. (no need to prove this for you cool )

The Old Testament covenant was very much like a personal living will, which only became effective when Christ died and full payment was made for man's sins.
What need was there for a new testament, if there wasn't an old one?

Luk 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Your Success And Joy Are His Dream - Thursday, September 10th .

Pastor Chris

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content (Philippians 4:11).

Someone once asked me, "Is it really possible to be full of joy all the time?" Very quickly, I responded, "I'm joyful all the time!" Then, he said, "Don't you think that's a bit unrealistic?" "It depends on what reality is to you", I responded.

For some people, reality is their human experience, but our reality is Christ. In Christ, it's possible to be joyful all the time. You can be joyful every day, and be successful every day, irrespective of what happens to you or around you, because that's God's desire for you. He wants you to be joyful and successful.

The Bible says, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" (3 John 1:2).
Jesus came, lived, died, was buried, and resurrected; all for your sake! He suffered that you might live in the glory of His sufferings. That means you should live joyfully every day, enjoying your life. That's what He died for: for you to live the best life, be the Father's dream, and be a success in everything you do, irrespective of the challenges that you might face.

James 1:2 says, "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations." The challenges that come your way are described in God's Word as light afflictions: "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory" (2 Corinthians 4:17).

There's nothing that can overwhelm you. The distress is for a moment; it'll surely turn out for your good! The problems you encounter that seem to be contending with your joy are temporary; they're the springboards for your promotion and the next level of glory.

Therefore, refuse to yield to pressures and adversities; subdue them with the Word. Stir up the joy of the Lord from within your spirit and laugh on in victory. Satan and his demons are discomfited in an atmosphere of joy, love, and laughter. So, live at the top all the time by maintaining a joyful heart.

Confession...
My life is an expression of the glory of God. I live independent of the circumstances and situations around me, because I know that all things work together for my good. Therefore, I rejoice always in the Lord, conscious that I'm a victor for life. Glory to God!

Further Study:
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

No further questions my lord.

(I wish you can understand these. That's why you've got to understand what the man Jesus did)

Oh... Here is a clue. The PASSOVER LAMB Became The LAMB OF God. Hallelujah.

As to your question of who died for the OT to come into force.. I really laughed. It shows how little you know your bible.

I told you the OT was more of a personal living will, but if you've read your bible well, you'd have read, that BOTH the Old and New Testaments absolutely required BLOOD to be effective.

Surely, Hebrews 9:22 tells us that WITHOUT THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD THERE IS NO REMISSION OF SINS!!!

The prophesied PASSOVER LAMB of the Old Testament became the sacrificed LAMB OF GOD in the New Testament. (glory to God... Wow!)

The Old Covenant lays the foundation for the coming Messiah Who sacrificed Himself on the cross for the sins of the whole world in the New Testament (1st John 2:2).

Interesting that, as it was then, so it still is today
Yes, Jesus functioned under the old Testament, and He really couldn't teach new revelations,
because the folks of then could not receive it,
because they had not the Spirit to KNOW THAT the old Testament is for us to learn from (Romans 15:4), and not to live by.
We will never enjoy Christianity by living by the old Testament, especially not by living by old Testament TITHING

As the new revelations teaches that, we ought to live by His grace and cheerful giving,
and not by an old Testament TITHING coercion, compulsion, arm-twisting or pressure

Lets not go into the nitty gritty differences and similarities between ''covenant'' and ''testament''
Question is, is TITHING in this new will?
What exactly are the others things in this will that took effect after Jesus Christ shed His blood and died?
What exactly are they, especially if agreeing with you that the new testament therefore began with the Acts of the Apostles?
TITHING de facto, is it in this new will?
I really do not appreciate redundancy, but... Let me just indulge you with one question.

Was Abraham under the old covenant?

A Yes or No would be just fine. cool

Goshen360:
I agree with everything taught here. However, let's us get something straight! If the old testament is for our learning and not for our living-it-out, I completely agree also but question:
Hello Goshen, being a while! Good to have you around.

1 - How should Christians learn exactly from the old if we're not suppose to live by what we learn from the old?
Let's look at what Paul wrote us in his letter to the Romans, chapter 15 and verse 4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

The message translation renders it thus...

Even if it was written in Scripture long ago, you can be sure it's written for us. God wants the combination of his steady, constant calling and warm, personal counsel in Scripture to come to characterize us, keeping us alert for whatever he will do next.

It's clear as the noonday sun that God kept those records for us, to learn from the mistakes of others, to learn of his dealings with men of old... So that we will be in line with his workings.

For example, idolatry.
God shows us how nations were wiped for idolatry, how suffering and poverty were brought upon cities... How kings deviated from a course he set for them, because of idolatry. He shows us their end, and the lessons worthy of note.

*I didn't choose tithing as an example, so that we can have a smooth going thread. Thanks cheesy

2 - What should Christians do with lessons of old when it is no longer valid on this side of the cross; that is, issues of the old that doesn't balance out with Christ's teachings and His finished works
The lessons has a lot to guide us from... Take for example,Folks in the new testament read of these books and learnt lessons (notice the Plural) from it...

Jude 9 KJV
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Looks to me like someone learnt a lesson from the folks of old..don't you think so?

Hebrews 11 shows us our heroes of faith... It's there for us to learn... James told us about Elijah... Peter told us about prophets of old and how they sought a glimpse of our salvation.. Faith, was taught by Paul of Abraham... Esau's blunder was taught us to learn from... So on and so much to learn.

Giving was taught to churches by Paul, from the old testament folks... Etc

I will like us to address these issues for\with Christians in this thread
You're in good hand then! cool

Your Faith Will Triumph - Wednesday, September 9th .

Pastor Chris

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4).

Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Imagine that as a Christian parent or a minister of the Gospel, your son or daughter isn't living according to the training that you gave him or her in the Word. There may be some who'd be quick to judge and say, "So-and-so's parents are Christians, yet he behaves like a sinner." If this happened to you as a parent, don't be moved by what others may be saying.

Challenges come to everybody; so, at the time you're facing your own challenges, stay focused on God's Word, and put your faith to work. Soon enough, that child will come into the right place and be all that God destined for him to be. Even the time others might have thought he lost will be regained, because God said, "And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm..." (Joel 2:25). So in such matters, don't allow the negative sentiments of others dissipate faith.

God gave us His Word so that no matter what we see or hear, we're not distracted; we stay focused. After all, as students, we weren't Doctors, Lawyers, and Architects whilst in the university. We were in school, being trained for what we were going to be. If someone saw you while still in school and said, "Hey, you don't look like a Doctor, Lawyer or Architect", you'd probably have replied, "I don't look like it yet, because I'm in training for it."

In like manner, we're all still being trained by the Spirit of God through the Word to be all He's destined us to be. If you already have children, keep training them in the Word. Even when it looks like they're not imbibing the culture of the Word, keep at it. Recall what we read in Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Give some time; the results of the training will be evident.

Never give up your faith because of the negative opinions of gainsayers; learn to live by the Word. No matter what you see or experience, your faith will triumph. Glory to God!

Prayer...
Dear Father, my faith increases as I give myself to the study of your Word. I take advantage of the grace that's in Christ Jesus, and to live a life of faith that's based on your Word, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
