Small bull today and everyone is shouting already?

Lol. The probability for a downside is still higher than an upside. Nothing has changed. Trade with caution.

It is a very dangerous idea to listen to the recommendations of stockbrokers. It is synonymous to asking a banker if you should buy Treasury bills or Fixed deposits.

its unfortunate where we found ourselves. in as much as i might not be willing to pick up MTNN at the current price and as much as i believe the listing could have been better handled by the REGULATORS. MTNN itself had not done anything wrong.. The failure is that of the REGULATOR (SEC) and MARKET STRUCTURES (NSE) that gave the go ahead for such behemoth to be listed via INTRODUCTION without variating same with some level of offer for sale (particularly from the principal/ controlling interest) to douse what was evidently a pent up demand for the SHARES.

Unfortunately we live in an era when its is criminal to be successful / rich, when law enforcements agencies / apparatus cant differentiate that while some rich / successful people / enterprises could be criminal not ALL rich / successful people are criminals. That success/ riches are shades of gray (gray itself being a shade of black/white) and hence we have the harrasment of MTNN.

However it shld be noted by the authorities that NO SOCIETY ever progress that harassed its own successful / rich. Such SOCIETY, history had shown always end up going into extinction
Thank you very much. I have noticed too that our country has started attacking the rich and corporations. The motto is if you can't join them, bring them down and as you said, ultimately it is all of us that will suffer it. Bright minds are already leaving the country. You don't want the rich to leave too. That will be the final nail in the coffin.

The raid was totally uncalled for. Instead, they should have raided SEC and NSE.
Exactly! This is the truth and we all know it. All this unprofessional business relations in Nigeria is unbecoming.

That is why I personally find it difficult to believe that EFCC has ever really fought corruption since it was created in 2004/5. Imagine it leaving the main body of the issue and chasing the shadow as if MTN's alleged abracadabra listing didn't go through SEC in the first instance.
Exactly! It's the SEC and NSE that should be investigated and not MTN. They will only do what compliance allows them to do.

Lots of drama.

Good that it was unavailable for a while so that newbies will not be moved to key into it due to the many analysis by Lord Chibuking.

The Lord has stopped chasing suddenly and now seeing values in the stocks he said CEOs sold.
Hahahahaha I tire en...

People that want to buy MTN should be happy people are saying Negative things about it. If I have all the info and they hit my price range I will buy.

The saying "be greedy when others are fearful and be fearful when others are greedy" is quite a hard quote to practice in real life. People are very emotional. When MTN was pumping like it was on steroids many here wanted to buy, now that it has calmed down small people are already getting cold feet. Very funny investors here. grin

If you are privileged to have MTN prior to listing or enetered at @90 on the day of listing, would you have said all this or would you have sold your shares.

Make una allow us buy in peace...MTN never wanted to list their shares, FG forced them. They have not done any wrong rather blame your govt. and regulators.
There are few people here who blame MTN of wrongdoing. In the grand scheme of things, I am sure they did nothing wrong. What we are talking about is the price, you can buy if you want, if you feel it will go higher fine, the fact that you are defending what you are about to buy or have bought continuously based on the assumption that others will buy higher tells me you yourself are not comfortable, you are wary that you might be wrong. I don't know about others, but I don't talk about assets I feel are undervalued and I am interested in buying, even if people attack it, I will be happier. If you feel MTN is an opportunity, buy it and relax, don't stress yourself. We are all basically competing against each other though. Always remember we can't all buy at the same price and we can't all sell at the same price.

If your source is accurate that one is Aliko's business, I am buying MTN today...like it or not MTN would overtake Dangote Cement in price, for a stock that pays out 80% of its profit as dividend.

Wait until institutional investors, pension managers and foreign investors start buying MTN...or which stock do you think these people are more likely to buy going forward, ask yourself?
You are basing your buying analysis on what you think will happen? Very risky my man.

This as MTNN's shares outstanding would have made their EPS, PAT, PE ratio, etc a more interesting read.
But they chose to split it into 20bn OS at 2kobo par value (for a coy of MTNN's size and calibre).
Why not at least 50 kobo if not N1 norminal value? Who does that @2kobohuh
I still feel this is where the "wayo" was crafted.
Las las market will correct the inflated price.
In as much as I feel MTN is overvalued, what did they actually do? IMO they did nothing wrong. If there is any wayo, then my bet is on the NSE, SEC and brokers themselves, not MTNN or their shareholders.

eddyakinrinde:
But pls I don't understand the term true yield yet, do you mean after reinvesting the interest and compounding?
They mean the yield gotten on the capital after removing the discounted yield.

For instance if you invest 1 million at 10%, 900K will be deducted, leaving you with 100K. Your true yield will then be 100K/900K x 100 = 11.11%.

I do not agree though about their assumption that this makes Tbills better, because MMF also has a trump card over Tbills. I will just say do what is most convenient for you.

https://businessday.ng/lead-story/article/efcc-shuts-down-mtn-nigeria-head-office-for-alleged-fraud/
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday raided the MTN Nigeria head office in Falomo Ikoyi Lagos, shutting down all activities in the Complex, BusinessDay has learnt.

Although the reason for the raid could not be ascertained at the time of reporting, BusinessDay, sources say members of the anti-graft agency stormed the telco’s head office, stopping all activities for alleged fraudulent financial activities pertaining to the company’s recent listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

“I believe the EFCC was informed that MTN was manipulating figures and also, maybe because of fraud pertaining to the company’s listing,” the source said.

BusinessDay contacted Funso Aina, MTN’s Public Relations Officer, who neither denied nor admitted that the company was raided, but said: “We will send out a statement to that effect very soon.
Drama everywhere.

We Called this a long time ago and some people were angry like we don't know what we are doing or wishing the market bad ... we will review the prices again and give updated forecast ... this price action seems to be in a capitulation move but not 100% sure...

Already lapses in the fiscal policies are beginning to reveal themselves, unaccounted funds in CBN and The Governor giving a hint of a second recession, who knows what is next.
You are right, capitulation is near, but not yet.

There is going to be a catalyst first (maybe it is here already?), then we shall see.

Remember it's just what the probability is, and it's not a perfect 1, so there is a chance that I can be wrong.

That's why I said I know MTN reversal might not be so soon but when it reverses, its not to take others down the more....... anyway lets keep watching how it all turns out to be. smiley
Sweetheart, on this one I have to be frank with you, with current state of the economy the probability others go down with it (if it does go down) is high.

The probability is still moving towards depressed prices.

Baba in addition, i wld say if u a going to play NSE look at the possibility of buying FX forwards (dont know if it is open to individuals) to hedge the risk of currency volatility that u a wary of

the number 2 though is quite preferable because at cost of 4% your transaction wld only become a carry trade (of 5% net) in same currency so no currency risk
Number 2 is the best option because you end up doing what banks do at a very low risk and without stress. One can even turn it to business/hustle depending on how much funds you can get access to.

If you must take foreign loan, don't play the NSE with it.
Two options:
1. Play the NYSE
OR
2. Play Eurobond @ 9-10% coupon rates.
Number 2 option is a smarter choice. grin

and for how long shall we keep doing this? is there no smarter alternative?
The smarter alternative will be quite painful in the short to medium term.
