freeman67: It's like my explanation wasn't clear enough to you there. What I was trying to say there is that even though I had issue with app, I knew who/where to contact which I did. I also knew my money is safe there and how else to access it other than the app. The owners of the app are Nairalanders and would have cleared issues if they wanted but they never have not done that before. Maybe they have never visited the thread or only do it without commenting I don't know. I am very sure the visit the stock market thread. If anyone is bold enough to speak for them they should be able to clear customers doubts too, that's how it works.. That said, the least I could contribute on this issue is what I have done so far.. Those using it own their money... The loss or gain is only felt by them.. Personally I already have already taken on it. I apologize for my assumption. I get you now. |

freeman67: I understand your position quite well, we are all here to increase our investment and it's knowledge. Yes, while its true that we should not just condemn the the technology.. which is the app. It is also important that we allow people freedom to ask questions and clear grey areas... Who is the custodian of I-invest because as far as I am concerned there are a separate entity investing money on people's behalf.. If the app stop working where should the people run to? I share your point in this absolutely. |

walcolm: We are talking about an app and a service not a website. I-invest resells tbills which is a legitimate security instrument and they do not offer outrageous return on investment unlike MMM
MMM was a fraud staring people in the face and the idiots who bought into it did by telling themselves they were making easy money and doubling their money
So compare apple with apple not apple with ogogoro But bro... They do have a point about what happens if the app shuts down. There should be something or certificates that should make people get their money + interests back. An app is only as useful as the people on the back end. What happens when the back end people leave? |

freeman67: Good question..! I was using GT app before then my phone was stolen. I got a new phone and installed the same app but as I tried to setup I experienced some issue.. And could not set it up even when I went to their closest branch to me for assistance. At the end I had to download another of their GTworld which is what I use now. Thank God I already changed my password through my Internet banking so even if they guy who stole the phone attempted something through the app it wouldn't have worked. It was this app we are discussing now, how would I access my money... Seriously? It seems many of you here are not technologically inclined. Lol! That is the problem. You can point out the obvious flaws in the I-Invest app, but this talk about apps in general shows a lack of understanding or flexibility in things that solve problems and make life easier. |

Akin3891: I remain analogue, that statement crack my ribs.going too digital when it comes to money may be too risky, not even in Nigeria. Can't imagine putting my 60 mils on i-invest, even with commercial banks i do shine my eyes very well. I read some news of a banker that collected more than 700 millions from TB investors , FG bonds, i think the guy paid the investors upfront intrests so nobody suspected any fowl play, ,he was later arrested, meanwhile he already perfected his visa to fly to USA with his family. Nigeria banks are full of crooks, kidnappers, thiefs,so guys beware and don't trust those bankers enough to give out ur personal infos, they smile at you when they see your account balances, but their cld more behind that smiles.
https://punchng.com/efcc-arraigns-banker-for-diverting-n700m-from-customers-accounts/amp/ That is why you should know what you are investing in. It has nothing to do with app or digital banking. The world is going digital! Lol! |

freeman67: Ordinarily I wouldn't have said anything more because enough has already been said even before now. Also every investment has some amount of risk. However, the way this walcom guy is coming to bulldoze people and force them to line even when people have contrary opinion with proof reminds of the days of MMM. Let us reminded that when investing in TB with any bank there is a custodian that holds your money for safety. Your fund is expected to be held by another entity. Yes it may sometimes be a subsidiary of the bank but then it operates differently with CBN guidelines. That's why you pay custodian fee for every primary market TB and I believe in secondary market the original buyer would have already paid for it. If you invest through the App money is only guaranteed for the app owner and not you. All it takes is for the app to refuse to login one day and the one location office they have will be closed that morning and you money is gone. Ordinary Customer deposits in banks are insured and banks are monitored by CBN.. That I-invest is not under the scrutiny of anybody ooo. Severally sterling bank has told those who care to listen that there are just customers/partners with I-invest and not the real owner. I am sure those banking with sterling bank will have the real sterling app if they have one. I don't know much about the I-invest app, but I came after the idea on attacking a financial services firm because they use an app. If what you say is true and I-invest doesn't give certificates per TB you buy, so you know your custodian too and all other necessary info, then I think they are not safe. So I apologize to all those who read my former posts, I was just against the attacking an App narrative. As for the app narrative it should be noted that even mutual funds too have a custodian. Let's all be guided. What I will not stand for is the app narrative, there are people with billions of naira in their bank accounts who use internet banking. At the end of the day, it's how a user takes care of their internet details to prevent social engineering that matters. |

eddyakinrinde: Yes o! People here really criticized the I invest app to a point in time that I was so scared I av lost my investment using the app. People need to change that orientation, so many way of doing things have changed. Several investment or asset management companies give their customers online access to subscribe and monitor their investments, be it mutual funds or tbills. It just make things easier and of a note is that they also responds to issues faster both online and on the apps. Exactly! Technology is the name of the game. Many people here discourage a lot of things. I remember when I was advising people to hedge with Eurobond fund, lol! They came after me like I was saying something evil. People think that rolling out of policies will bring them back but they have seen how many policies that have been rolled out the past 4 years, so they are not really interested.
I see them coming back when we hit a very low level or maybe floating of our currency (or any other changes relating to foreign exchange).
I became very afraid when market refused to react very positive to Zenith Bank 2018 FY result.

OgogoroFreak: We have corrupt leaders. The reserve is above 40 so they shouldn't have problems paying the ₦30,000 minimum wage but the reverse seems to be the case as they are talking about increasing VAT to be able to pay minimum wage.
I'm certain that the government would make sure that ₦30,000 is actually worth the ₦18,000 they were paying. And, I won't be surprised if they do pay themselves in dollars. That money will indirectly come from printing more naira and Tbills/bonds etc. Not from dollars in the reserves. Hence why I said inflation, though inflation could make us gradually loose value to the dollars. |

As Oga tritritri has said, so far we are above 40 billion USD, we will probably be okay. But take note of my use of the words might and probably, one thing I have learnt about finance is anything can happen. |

ernie4life: This will be helpful for those who may not understand ideological systems of ruling. They are simplified here:
*SOCIALISM:* You have two cows, and you give one to your neighbor.
*COMMUNISM:* You have two cows, the government takes both and gives you milk.
*FASCISM:* You have two cows, the government takes both and sells you milk.
*NAZISM:* You have two cows, the government takes them and kills you.
*CAPITALISM:* You have two cows, you sell one and buy a male. You multiply your cows and there is economic growth. You sell them, you retire and you live on your profits.
*MODERN CAPITALISM:* You have two cows, you sell one and buy a male. You multiply your cows and you buy those of your neighbors. Then your neighbors become your shepherds, you pay them in monkey currencies and they die poor.
*AMERICAN SOCIETY:* You have two cows, you sell one and you have to make the other one to produce milk like 4 cows. By stress of producing beyond her capacity, she dies. You hire a consultant to understand this death.
*FRENCH SOCIETY:* You have two cows, you go on strike because you want a third cow.
*GERMAN SOCIETY:* You have two cows, you modify them so that they live 100 years, eat once a month and take care of themselves.
*CHINESE SOCIETY:* You have two cows, you sell milk to your compatriots and you produce plastic milk to export to the rest of the world. You become rich.
*BLACK/ AFRICAN SOCIETY:* You have two cows, you eat them all in one month, and you dream that donors or the international community give you more cows. When that doesn't happen, you go to a church and hope for miracle cows. You fast 40 days and 40 nights without eating or drinking so that the cows will fall from Heaven. At last You die in extreme poverty
