People who trade on the Nigerian stock market nkan? So they shouldn't use app? Lol! Una funny!

Transcorp?

PE of over 7, profit margin over 5 years ranges between -2 to 10%. Current debt to assets of 34%, has a price to Book of 1.04, So what is undervalued about this stock currently?

lol! To the newbies, there are better companies fundamentally out there that have better stats than this stock, but didn't even move up in price like it. Except you know for certain that we will be having a Bull market, you have no business in this stock as at now. You are basically speculating, if you expect someone to buy it from you at a higher price.

That's my 1 kobo. Loco has said it all.

Success in investments comes from learning from ones past experience (successes and failures) and other people's past experience.
I was just thinking, how many stocks should one hold in his /her portfolio at any given point? Considering the fact that NSE is peculiar

Copy : @ all my ogas in the house
How much stock you hold doesn't matter. You should have what you use to value your stocks, if they fall in that criteria buy it, if not move on.

Even Warren Buffet agrees that diversification in stocks is for people who don't know what they are doing.

That's my 1 kobo, I am not an Oga though.

@ bolded, I am not sure that's true. Parallel market rates at 1999 were about 88 NGN in 1999 (Official market rate was 22 naira but it was a racket, hardly anybody got at that price). So you wouldn't be richer than investing in the Stanbic IBTC equity fund.
Just confirmed I was actually using the Official market rate instead of the parallel. The people at the short end of the stick are actually those who don't invest at all. sigh

This Official rate and parallel rate nonsense is screwing my calculations, I have to go back and check some stuffs.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GonFreecss1: 10:46am On Feb 08, 2019
Stanbic IBTC equity fund did over 800% in 20 years, that is an average of over 40% per year. This is a wonderful result. The only tragedy is by my calculations if you had left that same amount in dollars without even investing you would have been richer today. This really gave me perspective. A very sad one.

You should also note that the all share index did over 400% in that same period. A good result too.

My man, if I knew the answer to that, I will be getting ready to be a very rich man.

We all know all assets or commodities move up and down in price, the problem is mere mortals like us don't know exactly when. Though I can bet some people know of certain triggers and catalysts that trigger this things.

Election fear in the case of Nigeria is real but unfounded.
The two presidential candidates, both northerners, will not plunge country into war over election dispute.
So, as is characteristic of the market, speculatiors are running when nobody is pursuing.
This is when to be greedy when others are fearful.
My real fear for the Nigerian economy is this premoniition that crude. oil will crash to $20 one day.
The forces threatening to make it so anytime are too numerous for me to go into right now.
Exactly my fear too. Gives me sleepless nights, even though up and down swings in assets I own don't scare me. That says a lot. It's the same thing I have been telling the Tbills people, if such happens we are bleeped. All of us from bonds to stocks to tbills and other naira assets.

I don't want to be optimistic and say it can't happen, but I just know I need to prepare/hedge for it.

No! I am telling you it's not okay to abuse people for their opinions. You can disagree, but abusing them for said opinions is not okay. For instance, when addressing you, did I abuse you? That is it.

The fact that he’s still screaming bonanza after what we all saw in the banking stocks yesterday tells so much about his personality.
Those kind of people will see red and tell you it’s blue and they will continue to argue about it . Even when others cautioned him that we humans can’t be right all the time and he should accept he was wrong and move on . He is still doing agidi
Are you saying people shouldn't scream bull in a bear market?

If someone believes in Bonanza/bear or Bullish that is entirely up to them. You are not subscribing for anyone here, neither do you have any right to abuse anyone for their opinion. You have your opinion, every other person has theirs.

As for whether we are in a bull or bear, we can all see from the ASI what we are in, so what is your point?

Didn't mean to offend you sir, but like they would always say, "too much of anything is bad".

Take the bear and bonanza things easy ...
This is contradictory and hypocritical since the bulls like you are not taking your side easy. It is because the bullish guys are not taking it easy that's why they resorted to insults. There will always be bulls and bears, people make money and lose money both ways so please let's stick to the rules and stop the insults.
InvestmentRe: Mutual Funds by GonFreecss1:

pls can someone difrentiate between mutual funds and hedge funds for me
Mutual funds involves buying an asset and making gains from it, hedge funds involve short selling assets and other forms of derivatives. They are much riskier and you can lose all your money and probably still owe more. What they have in similarity is they are both managed funds.

You think so ? Why not do the Opposite scream BUY and see if the ASI will move up 0.50% not to talk of 1%.
Aptly said, couldn't have said it any better myself.

I wonder if there was short selling for everyone on the NSE, will many still be thinking the way they are thinking?
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GonFreecss1: 6:24am On Feb 01, 2019
It's funny how some people resort to insults just because another person has a difference in opinion.

Is that not why we are here in the first place? If everyone had the same opinion, this thread is useless. There will always be Bears and Bulls, hence up and down swings in price of assets.

Optimism is the enemy of an investor. If any stock you are aiming for has gone below fair value, by all means load up or start loading up gradually anyhow you deem fit, but I still stand by what I said earlier.

There is still optimism about a bull market, I will keep calling it, we are not at the bottom levels yet.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GonFreecss1:
I am surprised people are still arguing this Diamond bank stuff. Lol!

Let us use simple Logic, when Diamond bank was having really bad times stock price wise, I said if people that bought it believe it is a good stock to own then when people bad mouth it, and price keeps falling down they should buy more, due to the fact that when you buy a stock you buy because you feel it is undervalued and will be priced correctly someday, not because you think someone will buy it from you at a higher price. One of this things is investing, the other is speculation.

I don't have any problems if the pro-diamond people did not/could not buy again, maybe they don't have money to buy again or couldn't handle the emotional stress, this is actually fine as it's easier said than done. My problem is one of them quoted me to attack my point about buying more when people attack it and price drops. My people meaning this said person never saw the logic in what I said, then tell me, how and why should that person feel like they have a point? Especially after I repeatedly asked if the said person bought at lower prices? And they couldn't reply. We all saw the said person lamenting back then.

So what are we arguing? Since when did investing become luck? Things could have gone any which way. The most important thing is, people should understand why they are investing and why they keep holding an asset. If why you invest is dependent on what people here say or what blogs are saying, then you are not an investor. As an investor your job is to separate the noise from the facts. If you were able to logically know that Access will acquire Diamond and then prices will go higher, then good for you, if you are on that train because of luck and you know it, and we know it, why then will you come here and be trying to prove a point as if you knew what you were doing?

Akby:
I came across this quote while reading a book yesterday... Why 'A' Students Work For "C" Students - Robert Kiyosaki

Bogle points out that in mutual funds, you, as the investor, put up 100% of the money and take 100% of the risk. The mutual fund company puts up no money, takes no risk, and yet keeps 80% of the returns. The investor gets back 20% of the gains, if there are gains.

Warren Buffett Agrees
Warren Buffett is regarded as one of the greatest investors of our time. He is a capitalist. He is an entrepreneur. He is not a managerial capitalist. This is what Warren Buffett has to say about these corporate money managers, managerial capitalists, most of whom are "A" students from great schools.

He says:
"Full-time professionals in other fields, let’s say dentists, bring a lot to the layman. But in the aggregate, people get nothing for their money from professional money managers."

If this is true, it might be stated another way: Those who choose not to become financially educated or play an active role in their investments and, instead, turn their money over to professional money managers, are abdicating responsibility for their financial future.

Any comment on this?
This strictly applies to things like equity funds, and all this other sort of specialized funds. It doesn't really apply to Bond, money market funds and the rest like it etc. Because they are low risk and no super skills is needed. Most people here do the low risk mutual funds, which is just the investment house investing in Tbills, government bonds etc. The fees they take is almost the same as would normal Tbills or Bonds.

Bonanza period has not started yet. I keep saying you all will know when it does. Many are still optimistic and buying. This is not Bonanza. A Bonanza period will scare even those screaming Bonanza. Let's stop acting as if some firms, I mean good firms haven't paid dividend yield of 20% and above before.

It could take time and some will think I am wrong, but trust me, it will come.

Diamond will clean up its books before the merger. Have you seen Unity bank result? 0%NPL. They will write off the NPLs. That is why it is expected that Diamond bank will release it's worse ever result(the impairment will be massive).
Only time will tell Sha.
The question is will they make enough money to support those new assets that will supposedly make them big? Will they make enough to cover this losses? Will they make enough profits per share? Anybody can acquire assets or buy any company, but few can actually make money.

GT bank already has the largest MOAT, followed closely by Zenith, then the rest including access, UBA etc are sharing it. Do you feel people will suddenly start flocking to Access? They can write off loans all they want, if they are not making any money to offset liabilities and keep the company in operation, then shareholders had best hope the liquidation value won't turn around and f@ck them in the ass. Last time I checked Diamond was trying to offload land assets, they didn't succeed, because no one wants to buy, but like you said only time will tell. I wish them luck, but if I could I will short sell them.

Contrary to what some analysts think about Access bank post merger, by virtue of becoming one of the biggest bank, it will stand the chance to overtake GTB. It is good to also view perspectives from positive angle without always being pessimistic

Bigger than GT bank in what Exactly?

Asset wise?

Let me break it down for you, there are some banks already bigger than GT bank asset wise, Zenith? UBA? Even the Access you are talking about is currently bigger than GT bank asset wise. How much bigger do they want to be? The problem though is they are also bigger than GT bank in terms of Liability, but I don't want to talk about debt or Liability today, because they don't matter today. What does matter today? Sales, or to be specific? Profits! To be more specific? Profit margin! I don't have to spell it, but a smart investor knows at the end of the day, when a business is making money, everything else will follow. Bigger than GT bank in what Exactly? Go and look at their profit margins for the past 5 years and receive enlightenment. If Access Bank with their new luggage of Diamond bank assets and liabilities do not improve greatly on sales and profit margin, they will be in trouble. No amount of assets will save them. Last time I checked, Diamond bank was on a negative ROA, let's see the miracle that will happen.

What do you mean by divided is not paid regularly?

Interest in their Abacus MMF accumulates daily and they reinvest the accumulated interest automatically every quarter. They reinvest my interest on Jan 1st 2019 as at the last count.

And don't be undermine them because the interest is reinvested quarterly o, because that their quarterly reinvest still ends up giving me more total interest compare to IBTC who claim reinvest interest weekly.

I have been with both for more than 6 months, so i know what i am saying.
Do you do their Vantage Guaranteed Income Fund? I think that one has the best performance till date.
