Agbaletu:Lol. Why this paranoia na? People who trade on the Nigerian stock market nkan? So they shouldn't use app? Lol! Una funny! |
Transcorp? PE of over 7, profit margin over 5 years ranges between -2 to 10%. Current debt to assets of 34%, has a price to Book of 1.04, So what is undervalued about this stock currently? lol! To the newbies, there are better companies fundamentally out there that have better stats than this stock, but didn't even move up in price like it. Except you know for certain that we will be having a Bull market, you have no business in this stock as at now. You are basically speculating, if you expect someone to buy it from you at a higher price. That's my 1 kobo. Loco has said it all. |
Valueinvestor:How much stock you hold doesn't matter. You should have what you use to value your stocks, if they fall in that criteria buy it, if not move on. Even Warren Buffet agrees that diversification in stocks is for people who don't know what they are doing. That's my 1 kobo, I am not an Oga though. |
einsteine:Just confirmed I was actually using the Official market rate instead of the parallel. The people at the short end of the stick are actually those who don't invest at all. sigh This Official rate and parallel rate nonsense is screwing my calculations, I have to go back and check some stuffs. |
Stanbic IBTC equity fund did over 800% in 20 years, that is an average of over 40% per year. This is a wonderful result. The only tragedy is by my calculations if you had left that same amount in dollars without even investing you would have been richer today. This really gave me perspective. A very sad one. You should also note that the all share index did over 400% in that same period. A good result too. |
yom2:My man, if I knew the answer to that, I will be getting ready to be a very rich man. We all know all assets or commodities move up and down in price, the problem is mere mortals like us don't know exactly when. Though I can bet some people know of certain triggers and catalysts that trigger this things. |
zendi:Exactly my fear too. Gives me sleepless nights, even though up and down swings in assets I own don't scare me. That says a lot. It's the same thing I have been telling the Tbills people, if such happens we are bleeped. All of us from bonds to stocks to tbills and other naira assets. I don't want to be optimistic and say it can't happen, but I just know I need to prepare/hedge for it. |
Jonathan:No! I am telling you it's not okay to abuse people for their opinions. You can disagree, but abusing them for said opinions is not okay. For instance, when addressing you, did I abuse you? That is it. |
Jonathan:Are you saying people shouldn't scream bull in a bear market? If someone believes in Bonanza/bear or Bullish that is entirely up to them. You are not subscribing for anyone here, neither do you have any right to abuse anyone for their opinion. You have your opinion, every other person has theirs. As for whether we are in a bull or bear, we can all see from the ASI what we are in, so what is your point? |
veecovee:This is contradictory and hypocritical since the bulls like you are not taking your side easy. It is because the bullish guys are not taking it easy that's why they resorted to insults. There will always be bulls and bears, people make money and lose money both ways so please let's stick to the rules and stop the insults. |
adurisas:Mutual funds involves buying an asset and making gains from it, hedge funds involve short selling assets and other forms of derivatives. They are much riskier and you can lose all your money and probably still owe more. What they have in similarity is they are both managed funds. |
There was someone who bought Sukuk or FGN bonds or so for 7 years on this thread at above 15% yield. Can't remember the details. Forgotten his name. Can you please tell me the institution you used? Was it a bank or Investment bank? Thanks in advance. |
tritritri:Aptly said, couldn't have said it any better myself. I wonder if there was short selling for everyone on the NSE, will many still be thinking the way they are thinking? |
It's funny how some people resort to insults just because another person has a difference in opinion. Is that not why we are here in the first place? If everyone had the same opinion, this thread is useless. There will always be Bears and Bulls, hence up and down swings in price of assets. Optimism is the enemy of an investor. If any stock you are aiming for has gone below fair value, by all means load up or start loading up gradually anyhow you deem fit, but I still stand by what I said earlier. |
C505:They do. |
bigjay01:Lol! Of course, no one can say where the bottom is, I am only saying we are still going to go down, the journey down has not ended yet. Though if you see a stock at bargain price, by all means pick it up. |
There is still optimism about a bull market, I will keep calling it, we are not at the bottom levels yet. |
I am surprised people are still arguing this Diamond bank stuff. Lol! Let us use simple Logic, when Diamond bank was having really bad times stock price wise, I said if people that bought it believe it is a good stock to own then when people bad mouth it, and price keeps falling down they should buy more, due to the fact that when you buy a stock you buy because you feel it is undervalued and will be priced correctly someday, not because you think someone will buy it from you at a higher price. One of this things is investing, the other is speculation. I don't have any problems if the pro-diamond people did not/could not buy again, maybe they don't have money to buy again or couldn't handle the emotional stress, this is actually fine as it's easier said than done. My problem is one of them quoted me to attack my point about buying more when people attack it and price drops. My people meaning this said person never saw the logic in what I said, then tell me, how and why should that person feel like they have a point? Especially after I repeatedly asked if the said person bought at lower prices? And they couldn't reply. We all saw the said person lamenting back then. So what are we arguing? Since when did investing become luck? Things could have gone any which way. The most important thing is, people should understand why they are investing and why they keep holding an asset. If why you invest is dependent on what people here say or what blogs are saying, then you are not an investor. As an investor your job is to separate the noise from the facts. If you were able to logically know that Access will acquire Diamond and then prices will go higher, then good for you, if you are on that train because of luck and you know it, and we know it, why then will you come here and be trying to prove a point as if you knew what you were doing? |
Akby:This strictly applies to things like equity funds, and all this other sort of specialized funds. It doesn't really apply to Bond, money market funds and the rest like it etc. Because they are low risk and no super skills is needed. Most people here do the low risk mutual funds, which is just the investment house investing in Tbills, government bonds etc. The fees they take is almost the same as would normal Tbills or Bonds. |
ernie4life:I think both. Some of this companies call theirs with different names. |
Bonanza period has not started yet. I keep saying you all will know when it does. Many are still optimistic and buying. This is not Bonanza. A Bonanza period will scare even those screaming Bonanza. Let's stop acting as if some firms, I mean good firms haven't paid dividend yield of 20% and above before. It could take time and some will think I am wrong, but trust me, it will come. |
bravesoul247:1,000 USD. Then 500 USD subsequently. |
emmy4lov:Ask them for a performance sheet over the years. |
The financial markets transfers wealth from the impatient to the patient. I can see some of you are already optimistic. ![]() We will all learn last last. |
Yem0350:Well true. I will suggest you talk to them though to be on the safe side. Or some people here might have used them. |
Mpeace:The question is will they make enough money to support those new assets that will supposedly make them big? Will they make enough to cover this losses? Will they make enough profits per share? Anybody can acquire assets or buy any company, but few can actually make money. GT bank already has the largest MOAT, followed closely by Zenith, then the rest including access, UBA etc are sharing it. Do you feel people will suddenly start flocking to Access? They can write off loans all they want, if they are not making any money to offset liabilities and keep the company in operation, then shareholders had best hope the liquidation value won't turn around and f@ck them in the ass. Last time I checked Diamond was trying to offload land assets, they didn't succeed, because no one wants to buy, but like you said only time will tell. I wish them luck, but if I could I will short sell them. |
Dfavouredone:Currently over 15%, it has been kinda consistent over the years to be honest. |
Mcy56:Chai. Who chop this sweetheart status o? |
BMZK:Sighs Bigger than GT bank in what Exactly? Asset wise? Let me break it down for you, there are some banks already bigger than GT bank asset wise, Zenith? UBA? Even the Access you are talking about is currently bigger than GT bank asset wise. How much bigger do they want to be? The problem though is they are also bigger than GT bank in terms of Liability, but I don't want to talk about debt or Liability today, because they don't matter today. What does matter today? Sales, or to be specific? Profits! To be more specific? Profit margin! I don't have to spell it, but a smart investor knows at the end of the day, when a business is making money, everything else will follow. Bigger than GT bank in what Exactly? Go and look at their profit margins for the past 5 years and receive enlightenment. If Access Bank with their new luggage of Diamond bank assets and liabilities do not improve greatly on sales and profit margin, they will be in trouble. No amount of assets will save them. Last time I checked, Diamond bank was on a negative ROA, let's see the miracle that will happen. |
Dfavouredone:Do you do their Vantage Guaranteed Income Fund? I think that one has the best performance till date. |
Why am I feeling like this current upswing is a bull trap? |
