modupea:Of the top of my head: 1) Zungeru hydro power plant = 700 MW 2) Mambila Hydro Power plant = 3050MW 3) Omoku II thermal power plant (gas) = 225MW 4) Egbema thermal power plant (gas) = 338MW 5) Ihovbor thermal power plant (gas) = 451MW (partly complete) 6) Kaduna power plant (LPFO/GAS) = 215MW (partly complete) 7) Gurara II Hydro power plant = 360MW Others are power plants that can't be connected to the grid because they are below grid capacity and are under development are: 1) Kashimbila = 40MW 2) Gurara 1 = 30MW 3) Itisi hydro power plant = 40MW |
abouzaid:In the case of gas, under the NIPP project, the nearest power station to a major gas pipeline is 90km. That is why Prof. Nebo was shouting about vandalism, OBJ didn't plan the siting of power plants well. How can gas be in SS and you locate 3 power plants in the southwest and one in Kogi? Does that make sense? Do you know the km of pipelines that has to be laid including metering stations to reduce or sustain gas pressure to the gas turbines? Ordinary Geometric power plant in Aba has to lay 27km of pipeline alone. GEJ saw hell with the NIPP project, the guy saw that gov't couldn't sustain it hence he privatised the power sector. For power generation through coal i know of one private company, Zuma Energy, that is currently working to achieve 1200MW. For hydro, lots of work regarding environmental, resettlement, logistics, finance and civil engineering most especially has to be done and this can take 4 - 5 years. Currently, am happy with the effort GEJ put in order to get Zungeru and Mambila of the ground but more needs to be done. Nuclear power plant is one of the most complicated plants because you major concern is safety, environmental and waste disposal. That's why as an insider in the power sector, i laughed when Fashola said 8 months and GMB said 4 - 5 years. I don't like arguing with GMB fans because no matter how you want them to see things from your point of view they are not willing. Since GMB is a miracle worker, the part of the bible where God said "LET THERE BE LIGHT" is what am expecting from GMB and when he says this, wires and towers should appear and string themselves, gas/coal/hydro/nuclear/solar etc power plants with an ok tariff should also be in place. ![]() |
dearpreye:Very true statement. We need at least 10 years with major drive and financial investment to achieve this feat. Also, the issue of tariffs is a discussion for another day. |
I'm going to make an argument from my experience in the power sector as a Power Systems Engineer. It costs $1.5 million to generate 1MW by gas (If the pipelines and metering stations exist). For solar, it's depends on the technology involved which is far costlier than gas. For wind, it is 10 times more expensive than solar (Depending on the technology of solar). Coal is kind of cheaper than the rest. Now building a power plant above 750MW ranges from 15 months to 24 months (note this is just construction). From planning to design to logistics to financing to construction and commissioning takes 4 - 5 years except for Nuclear which can take longer than 5 years due to planning. Secondly, the transmission capacity right now (last time I checked) is 6000MW. Distribution is a different matter entirely. My point is in order to get 20000MW to the country, we are looking in excess of $35 Billion for generation alone. |
Hmmmnnn |
I need to watch before commenting |
rudedough:From my experience, in the power sector, 8 months can't deliver adequate power. Depending on the size of Power stations, it takes between 10 months to 5 years to build massive power plants and that's without planning ohh. On the distribution and transmission side it takes more than 8 months so forget this politicians |
Hmmm |
I need to watch this |
Take them to the park after Niger barracks. I heard there are animals there as well. You can also do it like a picnic. The place is nice and quite with a lot of grass so the kids can play. |
What's the exchange rate for Pounds sterling? |
koonbey:He is actually working. The problem is that Nigeria is a big country (land mass and population wise) and has been messed up to the extent that any meaningful development will not be easily felt by the general populace. Case in point is the work in the Power sector, but with our current population (180 million estimate), what we are generating is nothing. Another is on Education, with the additional universities more students, who can't afford private universities or go abroad, can study here in Nigeria but our student population is too large for the New 14 Federal universities... hope you catch my drift |
EdCure:No the federal govt doesn't generate power. Haven't you heard of privatization? |
Any language class. Be it Nigerian or any international language apart from English. I speak my native tongue though, slaps made that possible |

First of all, from what you have written, I'm guessing you studied accounting. Let me use myself as an example. I was in your shoes (am a Power Systems engineer) some years back before I went for my masters. For me I found the job not challenging enough / what I saw didn't tally with what I expected. My advice to you is 1) Among those 3 careers you listed, it's either you find a career path that encompasses them all or among them do a SWOT analysis and from there specialize in a niche (never generalise) and ride with that or 2) go into entrepreneurship. |
Na your area ohh. Over here in Abj PMS goes for 87 bucks but the queue na die. |
Guy, no play rough play ohh. We are talking about lives here shun sentiment and name the bloody airline. We need to start holding this guys responsible... |
Wait a minute, didn't Gen. Buhari attend the last debate that was organized by this same group in 2011? Am confused. |
While some people think the present administration is not doing enough, here is some news for them: Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited on Tuesday announced that a section of its Northern Option Pipeline that will supply gas to the National Integrated Power Plant at Alaoji in Abia State has been completed. According to the firm, the pipeline would boost gas supply to the power plant, a development that would increase the country’s power generation. Total, in a statement issued in Abuja, said the NOP pipeline, which stretches from kilometre 38 at Obigbo to Kilometre 50 at Imo River, was completed on January 12, 2015 and is now ready for gas inflow to the NIPP at Alaoji along the Imo River in Abia State. “This milestone will help bring to reality, the Federal Government’s aspiration of improved electric power supply in Nigeria and demonstrates Total’s commitment to meeting its promises to deliver better energy,” the firm’s Managing Director, Elisabeth Proust, was quoted in the statement. The NOPL is a 24-inch wide, 50km long pipeline under construction by Total E&P Nigeria Limited on behalf of the NNPC/TEPNG Joint Venture. “When completed later this year, the project will deliver 100 million cubic feet of gas per day to this strategic power plant,” the statement added. The firm noted that in an effort to ensure early gas supply to newly built power plants, the Federal Government requested TEPNG to complete a section of the NOPL from km 38 at Obigbo to Km 50 at Imo-River where the line connects to Nigeria Gas Company facilities. It added, “This is the point that allows gas inflow to the Alaoji power plant. This intervention for early gas required that TEPNG mobilised additional resources to fast track the works in order to meet the deadline despite numerous changes associated with the difficult terrain. “The gas now being supplied to the Alaoji power plant during this interim period will come from Seven Energy, while NGC will transport the gas through their pipeline and the section of our NOPL.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/total-completes-gas-pipeline-for-alaoji-power-plant/ |

Dude, I just have one question. Are you her only friend? Even if you are, you must stop this useless act immediately whether you have a girlfriend or not. How can someone use "friendship" as a means to extort you and you agree? 1) Friends are not parasites. You had better unfriend her in your interest. |
kepal99:I saw that as well.... |
Your situation brings to mind a saying which states: "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". Dude use ya head.... |
Merlissa:O girl, we exist and are closer than you think. Its just that strong thing was done to most of us, hence we changed. But all in all, Good single guys are many |
