Business / Re: Shoprite To Leave Nigeria After 15 Years - News24 by gratefulalways: 9:25am On Aug 03, 2020
Is there even a middle class in Nigeria. It's been long eroded. Such a shame.

aybabz101:
well, that is another job loss in this trying moment, but las las, we go dey alright.

But seriously, what is happening in 9ja? konga I think was recently put on the market for sale and jumia is really struggling. This means e-commerce is not "really productive" in Nigeria.

Also, our major supermarkets are closing up!

I think the purchasing power of our middle class is really dwindling at a very fast rate coupled with the fact that the naira is on a free fall.

these companies are not Nigerian companies so, their profit will be declared in their corporate headquarters in dollars not in naira. regardless of the marginal profit made in naira, if naira is below the cliff, it will be seen as a loss in their headquarters.

So what age would kids start primary school?

Pious101:
Na wa o...that means they re expected to finish secondary school at 18 years of age when even at 16 some are already in level 1 or 2 in higher institution.
Education / Re: Lagos Pegs Entry Age Into JSS1 At 12 Years by gratefulalways: 1:58pm On Apr 07, 2020
The parents dont need to relocate to another state. They'll simply send their kids to boarding school in those states

DBestDoc:

So you’ll quit your job and move your family to a different state just to evade the system? Or do you intend shipping off your underaged to a boarding house in another state or to go live with relatives because of this?

Parental love and guidance is very important for kids in their formative years. It’s the same anomaly the government is trying to correct. Ship them off early whether they’re ready or not. So sad!

Education / Re: Lagos Pegs Entry Age Into JSS1 At 12 Years by gratefulalways: 1:55pm On Apr 07, 2020
You are very right.

Ijoni:
If they want to address this, government should first of all tackle the practice of imposing age limit as a condition for employment especially in government owned companies. The mad rush for parent to enroll their children to school earlier is meant to beat the time wastage and difficulty in getting admission into higher institution for their children and the inherent disadvantage their children suffer in the highly competitive labor market when age limitation is introduce as criteria in securing employment. So government should go beyond curing the symptom, but rather, the main issue should be addressed.

With this policy, I see parents in Lagos sending their kids/wards to other states for secondary education

The reason why most kids skip Primary 6 is finance. Cost saving measures. The high cost of tuition particularly in private schools is responsible for this trend.

You are indeed pained.

MelesZenawi:
Pentecostal churches are the problems of this country.

They have configured, subjugated and brain washed the minds of their followes and creating followership without proper God's word.

You can as well refer to them as CEO of their churches( Company) and chairman board of directors in the church company business.

They are many Redeem, winners, mountain of fire, Iginla, house on the rock, synagogue...etc

These churches has made christianity a laughing stock in eyes of men and other religions.

Until all these churches are abolished, they will continue to work on minds of people with their tactics.

Nobody should dare quote me with rubbish about then stay in your country and give birth... You know yourselves!

Anyways it's well, very soon this same rejected stone Nigeria will become the corner stone IN JESUS NAME;AMEN.

Exactly my sentiments too.

It's okay, everyone is now trashing Nigeria & her citizens. It would get better one day. The same people & nations that have laughed at & scorned us will seek us & come to our rising.

And for those Nigerians living abroad who out of complex are running down their fellow Nigerians just because they feel they are in 'privileged' circumstances, who climbed the ladder to get to where they are & have decided to pull down the same ladder in order to prevent others from getting to where they are, who never see anything good in Nigeria & Nigerians, who tar every Nigerian with the same brush of crime, criminality & corruption, I hail una. You guys will one day eat humble pie.

Na wa o.

Women don suffer for this life. There is no way this policy won't impinge on gender issues. Particularly if they resort to mandatory pregnancy tests at POE.

From the cable sent to Consular Officers by the State Department, I think the Consular Officers were guided on how to address this issue of not directly putting across the question of pregnancy to female applicants.

lami88:

Are you pregannt and intending to give birth there?. Whether you change the purpose or not, i doubt it will make any effect. The visa officers will be extra cautious for women now especially those applying for visiting Visa's.

+++++ LONG POST ++++++++

Dear Forumites, I’ve read with amazement the various comments on this thread about recent trends in the issuance of & renewal of US visa. I’m aware that this thread started sometime in March 2011 by someone called SKELEMBA who was seeking information regarding cost & procedures for birthing in the US (Refer to Part 1 of Thread). Since then, this thread currently on its 6th Part has been a go-to source & reference for information on the subject of birthing in the US. It has been a very helpful thread & guide to many people who otherwise might have considered the ignoble path of birthing their kids in the US without paying at all or resorting to Medicaid.

I am also aware that prior to this period, many people got away with birthing their kids in the US without declaring their intention or even without paying a dime for services they received. However, since the inception of this thread, a lot of Nigerians are better informed. They have over time made their intentions known at the US Embassy & at the POEs. They’ve ensured their bills are paid (even to the extent of chasing service providers to get their payments effected). Some others also set up payment plans with their service providers. This much has been acknowledged in some cases of visa renewals by the Embassy.

This thread has been very helpful in getting people prepared for their visa interviews & POEs, pre-natal, post natal & documentation activities. Even issues like accommodation, shopping, mobility while in the US were openly, genuinely and honestly discussed and advise proffered. Ideas & information were freely given & shared. This platform, though faceless has seen real friendships metamorphose in reality. We’ve equally seen people with wrong intentions collectively corrected and advised to tow the line of truth & sincerity in their birthing project.

It’s been a learning curve.

I am however amazed that recently, some people in their comments on this forum have decided to tar the generality of Nigerians with one brush of dishonesty & fraud. Let’s be mindful of the fact that it is the perception we give outsiders/foreigners about ourselves that those foreigners will benchmark their dealings with us on. If we call ourselves a country of armed robbers so will foreigners address us. Let’s therefore not be deceived.

Let it be known that crime & fraud exist in every country. Criminals exist in all countries. I do not know of any country that does not have a justice system, prisons or correctional facilities.

Yes, Nigeria is going through tough times presently, and until we rebuild our institutions we shall continue to face challenges. However, it is my belief that Nigeria shall surmount its challenges someday soon.

Previously (as listed on Page 1 of the Thread), some of the following would most likely earn you a visa issuance / or POE as the case may be:

1. Making your intentions of birthing known;
2. Budget / Cost Estimates
3. Burden of Proof
4. Doctor’s / Hospital Appointment or documents
5. Financial Capability
6. Change of Intent (For a previously issued valid visa), etc

The above-listed were previously accepted. That has now changed. Even visas previously issued based on those considerations are now being questioned by the same VOs who most likely issued them.

Finally, it is a country’s prerogative to issue visas & admit foreigners into its territory. It is solely at their discretion. That can’t be wished away or taken away from them. But it is also obvious that there’s a global shift in immigration & consular policies of developed countries. These policies are both written & unwritten. These policies only manifest or play out at the point of service delivery (that is, at the point of visa interviews, POEs etc). Since the issuance of visas is a discretionary consular function, a visa can be denied on the flimsiest reason / excuse. We might never know the actual reason for a visa refusal.

If we have contrary opinions let’s convey them in the best & most respectable way we can. No single person knows it all. One size does not fit all. People’s circumstances are different. Please let's be guided therefore. Whatever help or advise you can give to your fellow Nigerian should be the focus. After-all that is the essence of this forum

Justwise has done a very fantastic job of moderating this thread. It is a thankless job. I really do commend him for a job well done.

What kind of arrangement is that if I may ask? Isn't it child trafficking in another guise?

Sarahwilliams19:
is it easy to come to the uk when you are pregnant. A friend of my sisters is coming over for 3 months and while she is here she is having her baby. Which she is going to leave in the uk to grow up and have an education, and British passport etc.

If it is that easy why am I struggling to find a child to come over and live with my family.
Do you know anyone who wants to do this.

Wooooowwwwww!!!!

What a convenient & evasive explanation.

AZeD1:
Too many illiterates on this thread. All revenue generating agencies return a percentage to the federation account while they spend the remaining.

If the VP says NNPC is paying for it, then it's coming from their share of revenue generated.

Also the NNPC does crude oil swaps.

If you've worked in a big company, you'd know departments have budgets and they kind of spend it in different ways.
