Hello, do you still sell Danpalon sheets?

Well done. You have fulfilled your 2017 Purpose. You have inspired many to stir up the gifts within them. I have no doubt that your reward will be great. 2018 will see much manifestation for you.
Properties / Re: The Making Of The "Mbaise 6 Bedroom Duplex" by Grouppoint(m): 12:15am On Jul 07, 2016
Well done Spyder. i wanted to know if there is any reason or advantage to the all-round lintel installation. I think it would add to the cost of the building. It would also make it difficult to vary or expand any window or door space in future.
Properties / Re: Strong, Beautiful And Affordable Homes by Grouppoint(m): 4:50pm On May 09, 2012
Spyder, Good job so far. Success awaits you surel,y. Meanwhile, will you consider working in Abuja? I have a number of plots for bungalows and duplexes within an estate in Lokogoma, and I'm looking to commence work in the next few months. Let me know if Abuja is on the radar and if so, I'll try out your hand on one or two of the projects.

Politics / Re: Fg To Sell 51% Stake In Electricity Companies by Grouppoint(m): 10:25am On Aug 31, 2010
The current tried and tested global trend suggests that PPP should have been the approach embraced by Nigeria. Whereby the experienced private sector will design, build, finance and operate (DBFO) our power generation, transmission, and distribution of power.

During this operational period, the management is still under regulation by the govt agency (PHCN).

After say 30 years of stable power supply to our homes, the facility can be returned to the state.
Politics / Re: Fg To Sell 51% Stake In Electricity Companies by Grouppoint(m): 10:18am On Aug 31, 2010
Every responsible government would be expected to follow international trends when making major decisions affecting the future of a public utlity of such magnitude as power.

There are many reasons why power supply should not be wholly privatised. 'Asset-stripping' is just one of the more obvious ones. The lack of regulatory control by the state is yet another.

A privatized company is free to do whatever it pleases with its assets.
Business / Re: Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by Grouppoint(m): 12:49am On Jun 13, 2010
AkoEja:

But, I suspect,
This looks like a waste of time for those replying to this post. I don't think you are serious about relocating!

@AkoEja, Thanks for your input. However, I have not asked you to determine whether I am serious or not.

I already have a business in Nigeria. It s doing well. Let us kindly remove the focus from my business, as Nairaland is not where I would go to seek business advice (no insult intended on NL).

I travel to Naija approx 4 times each year. I already run a business in Nigeria. What I wanted was a practical checklist for relocation. Such insight can only come from those who have walked the walk, @FaithinNaija, @Chaircover and others have provided excellent insights. Many Thanks
Business / Re: Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by Grouppoint(m): 1:09am On Jun 11, 2010
People, I truly appreciate all your contributions. I do not believe anyone particularly said anything in bad faith. I can understand how a reader might take a viewpoint of my post as unserious. Its clearly because I have sought relocation advice, not business advice. The business side is well and truly covered; and has been for quite a few years now.

Also, Buying vs Renting. I believe one should buy real estate in areas that have greater scope for capital appreciation. However, you may not wish to live in such areas for now,  At the same time, you can afford to rent in the best parts of town. This way, you have the best of both worlds.

I mentioned Dolphin because I really could be living in Parkview, but I find that Dolphin provides the same accessibility for a lot less money.
Similarly, a Prado jeep provides durability on Nigerian roads, and would not cost the same as my Range Rover.

@FaithinNaija. You are clearly walking the walk. Its clear that you are not just throwing words around. Your top tips are well thought through, and very much appreciated.

@Chaircover. I also appreciate your views. Quite constructive.

People. I asked an open question because I hoped to get all sorts of views, which I did. I will now take time to absorb the suggestions accordingly.
Business / Re: Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by Grouppoint(m): 5:04pm On Jun 08, 2010
Thanks. However, I find dolphin to be a lot more accessible than Lekki area. I am aware that rents have dropped significantly in recent months.

Are there some other hidden expenses that await me? e.g. Diesel costs
Business / Re: Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by Grouppoint(m): 2:40pm On Jun 08, 2010
I would like to rent in Dolphin estate Ikoyi. My preferred car would be a Toyota Prado or similar, Generator would be 20kva. I imagine there are more items of expense to consider. Your anticipated input is therefore very much appreciated. Thanks guys.
Business / Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by Grouppoint(m): 2:38pm On Jun 08, 2010
After more than 10 years sojourn in the UK, I am now preparing to move back to Naija to run my own business.

On the personal expense side, what are the expected approximate costs involved e.g. House Rent, Car, Generator, shipping of personal effects from UK? I need to establish a personal budget, so as not to use business funds for personal expenses and vice-versa.
Music/Radio / Re: Fela Musical- Produced By Jayz And Will Smith by Grouppoint(m): 12:23am On Nov 17, 2009
Its time Fela became as great as the late great Bob Marley.
Naija music has to win awards beyond 'best african music'.
Music/Radio / Fela Musical- Produced By Jayz And Will Smith by Grouppoint(m): 12:22am On Nov 17, 2009
It's official: After weeks of speculation, Jay-Z and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have joined the producing team of the Broadway musical "Fela!" (feh-LAH')

Jay-Z told The Associated Press last month that he might be getting involved in the show, an Afrobeat musical about the life of Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti (ah-knee-coo-LAH'-po coo-TEE'). Now producers say he and the Smiths are in, though there's no word on how much of a financial investment the three have made in the show.

"Fela!" is now in previews at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and opens next Monday. It's directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones.

Romance / Re: The Real Things Women Want From Men Aside Money by Grouppoint(m): 4:43pm On May 28, 2009
What women really want

by Ayodele Alofe

Forget about the diamonds, the boxes of gifts covered in shimmering wrapping paper with carefully tied bows. Forget about the car keys and the exotic holidays.
Forget about the brand new flat or the business just opened in her name. Forget about the day trips and dining at expensive restaurants.
Forget about the lovely dresses, the gorgeous shoes and please please, most definitely forget about the cash, however way you dole it out.

While all these things are not bad in themselves, once she's walked down the aisle and said ‘I do', what she wants becomes kind of different.
• She wants your word to be your bond. By this I mean, she wants to know you will come back home when you say you will and if for whatever reason you're running late she wants a phone call or a text.
• She wants to know important dates (her birthdays and anniversaries) would be remembered and celebrated in some or all of the above ways; you know the ones I said to forget about.
• She wants to see and feel your love just by looking at the kids. The yoruba saying goes ‘iyawo ti a ba feran ni omo re n wuni' (it is the wife one loves whose children are admired) I think it has some truth in it.
• She wants to know you care enough to let her watch her TV shows. That you will indeed, resist the urge to ask questions about the plot or flick to the sports channel.
• She wants a hug for no reason, a kiss with no strings attached, spontaneous foot and back rubs with shoulder massages thrown in when you see tiredness written across her face
• She wants to feel like part of a team when it comes to outings and school runs; it grates her nerves to say the least when seen as a single mum.
• She wants not to feel undermined where disciplining the kids are concerned and not attend functions solo because you do not want to clash with your uncle's phoney speaking wife.
• She wants the simple things in life, ample notice that your friends will come instead of them arriving unannounced, fully serviced cars with filled tanks that start at the first turn of the keys, fuel in the generator and completed DIY projects.
• She wants specific information about where you are going when you say ‘I am going out' and your phone switched on whilst you are gone so she does not have to wrack her brain if she or someone else needs to find you whilst you are out, yeah she wants to know the saying ‘wherever you are, be there' means the same to you as it does to her.

• She wants more than anything to be able to talk and make plans with you because it makes her feel more grounded in your relationship - the fact that you are thinking 'tomorrow'.
It's not an awful lot don't you think? Yet so many men still do not get it or deliver it. As much as women love material things they prefer mindful men. Men who realise that making a woman feel like a princess is not so much about the tiara but mostly about the time.
Religion / Re: Why Do Christians Fear Cancer So Much? by Grouppoint(m): 11:32pm On May 18, 2009
We easily cast and bind the devil, satan, demons, aids, etc by name easily, but if someone has cancer, you wont even hear the name of the disease until the person has passed away.

Is cancer more demonic than the devil himself?
Religion / Why Do Christians Fear Cancer So Much? by Grouppoint(m): 11:31pm On May 18, 2009
why do christians fear cancer so much?

So much that they dont even want to mention the name.
Religion / Re: Are Reverend Fathers Qualified To Advise Couples? by Grouppoint(m): 2:42pm On May 05, 2009
When you consider that hundreds of couples relate their experiences with a reverend father, you will understand the depth of experience that a rev has.

Just like we learn so much in school and university, A clergyman's knowledge and expertise can be garnered from the experience of many others.

As part of our nation’s re-branding campaign initiated by the Minister of Information and Communication, Dora Akunyili, a new postal code system was on Monday officially launched in Nigeria.

Speaking at a workshop entitled, “Addressing as a strategic Infrastructure for National Development,” Mrs. Akunyili explained that the postal code system was a welcome development in re-branding the communications sector of Nigeria.

“In every part of the world, you are required to fill a postal code in almost all the forms,” she said.

“It used to be very embarrassing when I fill forms abroad and I have to leave out the column for a postal code.

When I came on board in December 2008, I gave the Post Master General, Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba, the responsibility of creating a national postal code in four months and I’m glad that he was able to meet up the expectation. This is a landmark in our system.”

According to her, the usage of the postal code should make it easier to deliver mail, in the first instance, to large organisations.

The minister also stated that with the re-branding of the organisation, NIPOST would aid national development as well as provide employment for the people.

The new post codes will be published in newspapers and will also be obtainable from post offices across Nigeria.

Most guys here will readily work for their own Dads, and eventually takeover the family biz.
And I thought that in Nigerian culture, when you marry, the father in-law becomes your Dad,

Family / Re: Would You Work For Your Father In-law? by Grouppoint(m): 11:52am On Apr 23, 2009
It seems because of male pride, people are simply saying 'Hell NO' without weighing the benefits.

Benefits:
- Job for Life. No threat of sacking.
- Rapid rise to the top.
- All the best support and training provided formally and informally.
- If the Dad-in-law is getting on in years, you may well become the next in line.

Maybe he can marry the picture of the deceased.

At least that one is common practice in engagement ceremonies when one or both parties are abroad.

Family / Re: Cheating Husband Refuses Wife's Request For STD Test by Grouppoint(m): 10:00am On Apr 03, 2009
The man may be afraid to take a test. Many men act tough but are really chickens when it comes to life and death matter.

In order to resolve her issues and fears, maybe the wife should take a test.
that way, if the hubby has an STD, chances are that she has contracted it as well.

Is it a big deal? I have heard many Naija guys say God forbid!

Does working for and answering to your father in-law undermine the man's position in the home or even in his immediate society?
