Politics › Re: Why I’m Against Restructuring Of Nigeria – Obasanjo by Guestlander: 6:45pm On Aug 27, 2017
When the British left they didn't leave and tell us to restructure our mentality. They carefully negotiated our country into a federation which was later bastardized by the military.
It makes no sense to fix what is clearly wrong with Nigeria by simply restructuring our mentality.

I've observed recently that Yorubas on this forum are increasingly ignoring the IPOB's constant jabs at them.
I don't know if this is a conscious action by the Yorubas but the effect has been a lot of iPOB threads where they just talk crap at each other.
Sweet.

Politics › Re: Plans To Make Hate Speech Treasonable Is A Plot To Silence Opposition - Fayose by Guestlander: 9:34pm On Aug 19, 2017
ndcide:
Fayose is much in order to raise alarm, knowing the antecedents of this government to silence any voice that speaks truth to power, by all means. No vocal critic have been spared including fayose himself. Look at all their supporters, no one hales buhari on good governance, rather on how he will deal with people.

Now you say, derogatory names of the former president is not hate speech, no problem. You can't be so sure such names for buhari won't be regarded as hate speech. The name I posted earlier, is even censored on nairaland. Remember the wailing wailers came about when, people asked buhari to form government and stop wasting time.

Fayose's alarm is preemptive and absolutely in order.
Fayose is just playing politics. Has anyone been arrested or sent to jail for criticizing the government? I don't think anyone has been arrested for criticizing the government since the military went back to their barracks.
Fayose was trying to score a cheap political point with his statement. Lest we forget, there's a real danger the country might descend into serious violence if the levels of hate mongering is not discouraged in the country.
All you have to do is log on to nairaland politics section and some other Nigerian websites to see what the government is concerned about. You might also want to check out radio biafra.
Politics › Re: Plans To Make Hate Speech Treasonable Is A Plot To Silence Opposition - Fayose by Guestlander: 8:58pm On Aug 19, 2017

I think you should read my post again.

Besides, I don't see any of Fayose's positions since buhari became president, as hate speech. Of course, any supporter of buhari government will be uncomfortable seeing people consistently speaking truth to power.

Also, Fayose's position with this press release, is about the government regarding criticism against them as hate speech as they do with their selective corruption fight. That's the point. Let's not pretend about it.

Now, you noticed, "daura dulllardd" changed to daura President?

Was, odechukwu, kindergarten President, clueless President, ineffectual buffoon, etc, censored on nairaland? That's what we are talking about. Again, I say, let's get real.
The government did not mention anywhere that criticism of the government will amount to hate speech. None of the derogatory names for the former president will qualify as hate speech still. I don't think anything Fayose said about Buhari will qualify as hate speech. The question then is why is he raising an alarm where there is none. If the new bill is making grandstanding an offense then I would fear for Fayose's liberty.

I agree with fayose jare. In fact, that was the reaction in my post when I read the news. Is calling buhari daura dulllardd, hate speech?
Calling Buhari a Daura president is not hate speech but calling Daura people goats and animals is definitely hate speech.
All hateful rhetorics targeting a person or a group of people based on their religion, race, nationality, ethnic background or sexual orientation will qualify as hate speech.
It is up to Fayose to determine if his own speeches fall into any of the categories.
Calling someone a flatiron may sound funny but it will qualify as hate speech.

The rallies by Shiites cost them many lives and CB who wasn't even beaten by anybody is what you're calling being killed. Be honest with yourself and tell us the difference between what the Shiites were doing and what Kanu is doing? What would you call it had the state applied the same measure to iPOB as they did to the Shiites? I am sure you'd call it massacre of Christians.
God bless you for this post. The level of restraint by this government towards Kanu and his followers is astounding. We need to start being honest with each other and not see everything through a narrow prism tribal and regional division.

What is this you are trying to do? Cross examine me? Are they all not in cahoots? Please do not try to deflect from the facts on ground. Buhari even if bed ridden has the capacity and force of will to calm frayed nerves in the nation he governs. He is the commander in chief of the armed forces. His body language alone is enough to affect state policy. You are not arguing with a kid here.
Buhari in his sick bed has the power calm frayed nerves but Osinbajo who is hale and hearty and in charge doesn't?
Mind you, I have nothing against Osinbajo I just wanted to point out your bias, all your opinions are clearly tainted by it.

We both know Pastor Yemi is not in charge at Aso rock. He is merely acting "on paper". The main men are Abba Kyari, Babagana Munguno and Mamman daura. We yorubas ain't fools. We know what is going on but God is on the throne.
If those men you mentioned are in charge why then did you accuse Buhari of dividing Nigeria because of what happened to Charlie Boy in Abuja?

Osinbajo is a push over who can't even speak up for himself not to talk of fellow citizens. If I start talking about his weakness, we won't leave here. He has not only failed Christians, he has failed RCCG, Ogun State (My dear state as we ain't no pushovers), he has also failed the South. I do not reckon with him as he is a pastor who may not be inclined to play real politics. I rather not discuss him, please.
That is your own opinion of Osinbajo, what is certain and what we all know is that he is in charge in Abuja and if things are going wrong it is only fair to lay the blame at his feet rather than someone who is on the sick bed in London.

Nonsense, all the crap written about him during the elections are still fresh in my mind. I'm not even a big fan of Buhari but what is fair is fair.

I am a Yoruba man and a Christian for that matter who never liked Jonathan for his corruption. Buhari however came on the groundswell of goodwill and support going by what he met on ground but he has failed woefully. He has divided his citizens on the basis of ethnicity and religion. Under him, thousands of Christians were killed and we didn't say anything due to party affiliations (Card carrying member of APC) but this is getting too much. What justifies the attack on CB in Abuja? Is the right to peaceful assembly not guaranteed in our constitution? Have we faired better economically under him? As for your allusions or innuendoes that I am part of the igbos who from inception hated Buhari, I state that it is not surprising as I have been baptized with that since Saturday and I am used to it. Nigeria won't be a police state. Not now, not ever. We all have a right to constructive criticism of a government wombling and fumbling. You think we have not seen how they have silenced pastor Yemi? What have you as a Yoruba man said about that? Enu e le wa yen, ato ye yin!
Buhari is presently undergoing treatment abroad and the the in charge of the government is your fellow Yoruba man, why are you not blaming Osinbajo for what recently happened but rather someone who is thousands of miles away from Nigeria?

By the grace of God, I can feed myself. On the issue of my contribution to Natipnal unity, I would admit I have not been too loving of my fellow Nigerians but I am just a citizen and you can't compare me with Buhari who is suppose to be a father figure to all Nigerians. His tenure has less than 2 years left and his legacy would forever be there for all to see. Posterity would never forgive him.
Buhari is a citizen just like you and I my brother. He has only one vote just like you and I and I don't consider him my father figure. He is my employee as far as his position as president is concerned. If in the next election I don't consider him or his party worthy of my vote I will give it to someone else, period. But the accusation that he divided Nigerians is just not true.

Buhari divided Nigeria when his first statement as president was to treat the 97% of those who voted for him better than the 5% who didn't vote for him.
His first statement after he became president? That is not true. Why is the statement so divisive? Buhari is a politician, if you don't like him or his policies don't vote for him, how does that create a division between you and your fellow citizens?
