These thieves are now so brazen and brag without shame about their loots and the avenues through they milk the nation. One wonders if they'd be this brash and bold were someone like Gani fawehinmi to be alive. i |

The National Assembly yesterday passed the 2012 Appropriation Act of N4,877,209,156,933 with a startling revelation that President Goodluck Jonathan allocated more money to the ex-Niger Delta Militants than the nation’s critical health sector. A breakdown of the budget shows that the Presidential Amnesty Programme for ex-militants has a recurrent expenditure of N66,176,411,902 while the entire health sector was allocated N60,920,219,702. The staggering allocation to the ex-militants is separate from the huge amount also allocated to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, which is to gulp N48,673,424,630. In other words, the ex-militants and NDDC, which ought to create a conducive atmosphere to discourage militancy in the Niger Delta, were cumulatively allocated N114 billion. The controversial fuel subsidy has the lion share of N888 billion followed by Works which is to gulp N244 billion. Education, which is another critical sector of the economy, received only N66 billion, while Power was allocated N75 billion. Transport is to gulp N89 billion and Water Resources N75 billion. The 2012 budget, which was increased by about N228.3 billion after it was amended by the National Assembly, is predicated on a crude oil benchmark of $72 per barrel and a production output of 2.48 million barrels per day, as well as an exchange rate of N155 to the U.S. dollar. After the passage of the budget, Senator President David Mark congratulated his colleagues for the quick passage of the budget and enjoined the executive to submit the 2013 budget to the National Assembly “latest by September this year, to enable us consider and pass it before the end of the year.”http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2012/03/16/jonathans-budget-shocker-ex-militants-get-more-money-than-health-sector/ |

Federal Government has identified 1,497 irregular routes being used by illegal immigrants to gain entry into the country. Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, said this at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday. Moro said the development had made it difficult for the government to properly secure its international borders. He said the government was concerned about the nation’s porous borders, especially when some of the illegal immigrants had been allegedly playing active roles in the security challenges facing the country. He said, “There is no doubt that in any country, foreigners come in. There is no exception to that but when criminally-minded foreigners come into the country with legitimate papers, without proper travel documents, it becomes a concern for the government. “Moreso, when these foreigners are alleged to be part of insecurity by participating in suicide bombings and some of the conflicts that we have on our hands, certainly it is a serious concern for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “It is as a result of this concern that the Federal Government has started to increase attention to addressing this border porosity.” Apart from building watch posts, Moro said the government would introduce electronic components to the surveillance of the Nigerian borders with a central post in Abuja or any part of the country. He expressed the hope that the electronic surveillance would help reduce if not completely eliminate border infiltration. The minister reiterated the resolve of government to capture the biometric data of all persons entering and leaving Nigeria. He said, “We are presently partnering with Galaxy Backbone, it is the major platform for capturing this data and of course the national identity commission is in an aggressive move to ensure we have adequate data record of all persons that enter and leave Jos and all persons including Nigerians resident in Nigeria. We will get there soon.”http://www.punchng.com/news/govt-identifies-1497-illegal-routes-to-nigeria/ |

lagerwhenindoubt: A Word of Advise - In Nigeria you never loiter near the scene of a Fresh Crime - Run away just like the Police do and watch from the safety of your home (move if it is close to the crime scene until things pipe down). Seriously, you could just be picked up for being a close suspect.RIGHT you are! |

If truely a telecoms mast, the guy has just succeded in exposing further our security inadequacies. Telecomunication is one of the critical infrastructure that should be protected like such. BH may have just gotten another target that will hurt the government and the west. |
This is quite irresponsible of Fashola. He exposes himself to unnecessary security risks - he should not be lining up with others. This is just an irresponsible and cheap publicity stunt.
And what makes you think that those guys are not his security aides, or is it because they are not wearing police black on black? |

I can't stop regretting i should have gotten married to him instead of my husband.Your choice, live with it and stop nagging. You are right on this one. maintenance is key to either a low mileage or high mileage car. Terrain of use is also an important factor; compare a 70,000mile car in Nigeria with a 70,000 mile equal in the US. |

@poster, answer this question: Did Nairaland crumble / crash for it to be rebuilt? |
Unable to leave right now but will visit less often, and in future stop visits altogether. I hope on the poll choices, poster will add 'will you stay if good points in both NL1 and NL2 are merged?' Just my one kobo; dear john(NL), oh how i hate to lie, dear john (NL) i must let you know today that my love for you has died away like grass upon the lawn and may consider marrying (joining) other forums. |
If you've got someone who can do the wahala of purchase abroad, it s a hell better than buying off dealers in Nigeria (Not NL-dealers o) but the countless horde of unscrupulous dealers in Nigeria. My SUV came from the US and i tell you apart from regular routine oil change and mandatory tire change (tires are not good for long in our climate if they'd been used in snow weather)for me, it has been pretty smooth. I know some people are unlucky to get bad deals even from abroad but this is largely very rare as against the prevalence in Nigeria. |
I have posted the same message here about five (5) times because you do not see your post immediately like on the old NL.. Dividend of the new site, there is no thrill to this one. Even before i joined the forum fully, as a visitor, the site's outlook appealed to me than now (that is about 5years back). |

Seun, it is never too late to revert or at least restore the old forum till this is fixed up. Many NLders will have that you retain the old forum style and improve functionality. Look at Facebook, twitter etc even astalavista, what will happen if the guys there decide to change the outlook completely, disaster i tell you for their finances. They will only optimize the old system and not carry out a wholesome change as you've done; even if you want to move it to the next level as you say here, you should consider the users who have made the Nairaland what it is today. A word is enough o. |

Don't know the time this OP was carried out but ideally should have been done at night using the cover of darkness and surprise. SSS and the M16 need to tell us how long they planned the operation and its classical failure. RIP to the two guys killed by this blunder. |
