faithin9ja:
This is the type of colonial mentality that is affecting Nigeria and most of us are not even aware of it.

Aganga is trying to correct this anomaly.

In most developed (where we in Nigeria copied the intial idea of company registration from) it usually takes less than 28 hours to register a company and costs often less than $100 - in many countries you can register your company within a couple of hours online!!

In Nigeria, not only does it take anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months to register a company, you need a lawyer and it will cost at least $600.
Also you will be required to pay tax on your share capital, ie you are paying tax even though you have not even started business.

Banks/governments are equally complicit in this foolishness;

Banks will not lend you money until you have a limited company, for those who studied business will know that a limited company means your creditors cannot take any of your assets that are not part of the business, ie your share capital, but in truth the bank will still require all the directors personal assets to guarantee the loan, so why the need of the limited liability company?

No government will give you a contract until you have a limited liability company, the bigger the share capital, the bigger the contract you can apply for: but just like the banks the government department will still require the directors details and the share capital doesn't have to be paid-up, so what's the need?
Let the honourable minister work the talk. As we say, talk is cheap; only when it happend should we believe it.

Air stewardess jailed for cocaine smuggling

02 February 2012

An air stewardess who was caught trying to smuggle cocaine into the UK has been jailed for five and a half years.

Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma Ogbonnaya, 29, from Lagos in Nigeria had flown into London's Heathrow airport as a member of crew on an Arik Air flight from Lagos on 18 December 2011.

During searches by UK Border Agency officers at the airport's crew clearance facility, searches of her luggage revealed that she was carrying a rucksack with a false back.

Officers discovered packages of cocaine hidden behind the false back.

Forensic tests later showed the packages contained approximately 2kg of high purity cocaine, which if cut and sold on the UK streets would have had an estimated value of £250,000.

Ogbonnaya claimed that she had been given the bag by a friend and that she was unaware it contained drugs. She later pleaded guilty to attempting to import a class A drug, and a judge at Isleworth Crown court in west London on Thursday 2 February 2012 sentenced her to five and a half years in prison.

She will also face deportation at the end of her sentence.

Assistant director Pete Avery, from the UK Border Agency's criminal and financial investigation team, said:

'The cocaine found here was of a very high purity and there is no doubt that had this woman not been stopped it would have ended up being cut and sold on the streets of London.

'Ogbonnaya sought to abuse her position as a crew member by bringing these drugs in. As a result she now faces a long time away from home and behind bars.

'UK Border Agency officers are on constant alert to keep class A drugs and other banned substances out of the UK and take them out of the supply chain before they reach the streets.'

That's the best option in this case if the seller is unwilling to release the account for your takeover. Yank it out and get another installed, this is a sensitive case that demands urgent address. I hope it is not a toyota or honda product.
Autos › Re: How Do I Change The Number Of Auto Tracker by gulfer: 11:33am On Feb 02, 2012
You need to take over the account from the seller of your account, possibly renew the subsription. Do a change to the ownership and subscriber's details of the tracker. This should be easy if it was installed by a registered tracking company, however if it it is the one-off installation and payment type like tramigo, then you may need to contact the manufacurers.

Pukkah:
House of Representatives has threatened to revoke the concession contract between Federal Government and Bi-Courtney, following the slow pace of work on the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Chief Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, member of the House of Representatives, issued the threat notice in Abuja during the 2011-2012 budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Works presented by Mike Onolememen, Minister of Works.

Ozombachi, who was irked by the pace of the work on that expressway said: “Nigerians should not be held to ransom by any legal issue. We are going to summon the contractor and the minister and find an exit strategy,” adding that the company has not demonstrated competence.

“If he is not doing that project, we will find money or Option B. That road is a gateway into this country and we can’t allow one man to hold us to ransom,” he added.

I don't like to say this, Julius Berger will do a better and speedier job than this Obasanjo protege and front. On what basis was the contract awarded to the Bi-Courtney construction company.

Politics › Re: We’ll Wipe Out Boko Haram – Jonathan by gulfer: 9:33pm On Jan 24, 2012
supereagle:
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday in Kano vowed that the Federal Government would soon wipe out the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, pleading with Nigerians to join hands with security agencies by exposing suspicious elements within their neighborhood.

The President stated this at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, when he paid the monarch a courtesy visit in Kano where he went to assess the extent of damage of Friday bombings which claimed about 200 lives.

He said security would be strengthened in Kano State and other places across the country, adding that the Federal Government would not rest until terrorism was wiped out in the country.

He said, “Those causing havoc will never succeed, Kano has been in peace since the Boko Haram insurgence. The Federal Government will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to book.

“The people doing this are not spirits, they are among us. I seek the cooperation of all towards getting those involved in the havoc arrested.

“I can assure you that we will intensify security in Kano and all over the nation to look at our neighbours to know what they do, to enable us to fish out these miscreants.

“Let us police ourselves because if we don’t, one day, it may be against us. We will not rest until these terrorist are wiped out.”

Before boarding the presidential aircraft back to Abuja, Jonathan alleged that the Boko Haram terrorist group had sponsors.

The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Hafiz Ringim, was not on the presidential entourage, a situation which generated curiosity among residents.

Most parts of the state were condoned off to secure the Presidents passage during the visit.

After he landed at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport around 3.09pm, the President went straight to the Nigeria Airforce Military Hospital, situated within the vicinity of the airport to commiserate with some of the victims hospitalised there.

From the hospital, he proceeded to the Emir’s Palace before visiting the Zone 1 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force where the multiple bomb explosions last Friday began.

According to him, Nigerians should begin to take special interest in the activities of their neighbours and report suspicious one to the security agencies to stem the activities of criminals within them.

He added that the FG would help the Kano State Government to support those hospitalised and the families of those who lost their lives.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has relaxed the 24 hours curfew imposed last Friday to 7pm to 6am.

Though, the review of the curfew period was announced last night and early this morning, most residents still preferred to stay indoors and within their vicinity.

Sunday service were affected in most churches as turnout was low. Commercial vehicles and motorcyclists were also not available as it used to be, and most commuters had to walk to their destinations.

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, promised the readiness of traditional rulers from the northern part of the country to wage a war against members of the Boko Haram.

Bayero made the promise while welcoming Jonathan.

The traditional ruler said the war against the group would henceforth be total as he and his colleagues were ready to support the President in his bid to end the violence that had been characterising the sect’s activities.

He said, “The President is not alone in this war against Boko Haram.

“Mr. President, be assured that we are in this together. We all must join hands with you to combat this evil that is threatening the welfare and security of all of us.”

Politics › Re: Chadians Among Kano Attackers, Police Say by gulfer: 2:50pm On Jan 24, 2012
frosbel:
Abuja/Kano — Police yesterday said people speaking a Chadian language were among the attackers who waged bombing and shooting sprees in Kano last Friday, killing a total of 185 people according to the first official tally.

"The extremists are said to be speaking accented Hausa language, Kanuri and Chad languages," the state police command said in its first account of the carnage.

Friday's strike was the deadliest yet claimed by the Boko Haram sect, which said it launched the Kano attacks because the security agencies were holding its followers.

A statement by Police Commissioner Ibrahim K. Idris late yesterday said 150 of the dead were civilians, 29 were police officers, three were secret police officers, two were immigration officers and one was a customs officer.

Idris also announced that the police found 10 unexploded car bombs in the city, three days after the wave of attacks targeting security agencies.

The statement said: "Among the areas affected are police zonal headquarters along BUK Road, whereby a suicide bomber drove a car forcefully through the gates and detonated a bomb which destroyed part of the building. Same group of terrorists launched an attack at Farm Centre and Zaria Road Division, Immigration Passport office located at Farm Centre, SSS Headquarters at Giginyu Quarters, official residence of AIG Zone One and St. Louis Secondary School simultaneously.

"At the command headquarters Bompai, two cars heavily loaded with explosives devices, primed for suicide mission were resisted by the police. The first suicide bomber drove through the JFK end of Bompai Barracks and when resisted by the officers on duty detonated on the road and could not have an access to the barracks.

"While the second vehicle Toyota Camry was sporadically fired by the police, ran into the wall and could not have an access into the State Headquarters. The driver while attempting to escape was gunned down and the explosives were demobilized by the men of Explosive Ordinance Device.

"The extremists also attacked and brutally killed innocent civilian citizens who were going about their lawful business along Tudun Wada Road, Club Road, Old Cemetery Road, Abuja Yandusa, SDY Roundabout, Farm Centre GSM market, Sule Gaya Road, Dantata Road and St. Louis Avenue.

"The available statistics to the police indicated that 29 policemen, 3 SSS officers, 2 Immigration officers, 1 Customs officer and a total of 150 civilians so far killed by the extremists. In the same vein, a good friend and pressman Mr. Enenche Okogwu of Channels TV was also among those killed during the massacre. The extremists are said to be speaking accented Hausa language, Kanuri and Chad languages."

Idris listed the items recovered by the police as follows: "Ten different makes of motor vehicles comprising of Honda CRV, Toyota Camry of different models, Honda Brahma, Golf, Toyota First Lady etc were recovered loaded with improvised explosive devices at places like Sheka Quarters, NNPC Mega filling station Hotoro, Tishama, Goron Dutse, Farawa, Miller Road and Police Headquarters Road Bompai all in Kano metropolis.

"300 Coca-cola sized cans of improvised explosive devices recovered at various locations in the city. 8 Peak milk tins of 350grams loaded with improvised explosive devices (and) 8 drums size of 350 kilo grams with improvised explosive devices loaded in cars in various locations in the city."

Hours before the police made the official announcement, a source told Daily Trust that a retired police officer was caught yesterday afternoon with a bomb-laden vehicle at Goron Dutse area in Kano city.

The suspect was being held in police custody. He was arrested wearing a bullet proof vest, with a Toyota Camry car and carrying ammunitions and other explosives, the source said.

AFP news agency also quoted a senior police officer as saying on condition of anonymity: "So far we have discovered over 100 home-made bombs in the operation we have launched in bomb recovery in different parts of the city."

Yesterday, Senate president David Mark said he and the speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal had ignored security risks to travel to Kano.

"We want to ensure that a few misguided Nigerians who have been led into this action don't take this country hostage, it is not about religion, this affects the entire nation," Mark said in Kano.

In a BBC Hausa interview monitored yesterday, Tambuwal urged the Federal Government to forgive and dialogue with the Boko Haram sect as part of efforts to end its uprising.

Tambuwal said there was the need to "forgive them, bring them to the table and discuss with them to see how to end these problems."

Asked if he meant use of force should be replaced with dialogue, the Speaker said government could take all measures, starting with dialogue and if it fails then resorting to use of force.

Meanwhile about 200 Muslim clerics and political leaders offered peace prayers in Kano.

"I will pray to God that we should never re-live the catastrophe that resulted in the deaths and maiming in our city," Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said.

Emir of Kano Ado Bayero told the clerics: "I enjoin you to continue praying for peace and stability in our city. I call upon you to use any religious fora to pray for peace in our land."

A purported spokesman for Boko Haram using the nom de guerre Abul-Qaqa claimed responsibility for the attacks on Friday, saying they were in response to a refusal by the authorities to release its members from custody. Some detainees being held at a police station in Kano were thought to have been freed during Friday's attacks.
