hilroy:The Tutsis won the war and Paul Kagame a Tutsi became the president and accommodated the losing Hutus, he never seized any Hutu property nor give them $20 no matter the amount they had in the bank. You cant compare that to the case of Nigeria where Igbos lost the war, did not get the presidency like the Tutsis and had properties and money in banks confiscated. There was no indigenization policy at a time when the Hutus were too poor to participate having lost everything. Your comparison is plain silly! |
================ *WHY MANY ARE ANGRY WITH NIGERIA* My friends who are not from the East of Nigeria where Igbos come from often ask me why there is so much anger in the East and among Igbos. Some wonder why, despite the famed Igbo” wealth’ and enterprise all over Nigeria, the people still complain that Nigeria is unfair to them. Some insinuate that the anger comes from the loss of the 2015 election by Jonathan who the Igbos heavily backed. And why is it that the current generation of Igbos are so angry as to contemplate carrying arms against the country? With lots are following Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB with his secessionist message. Those not following may despise his antics and rhetoric but are sympathetic to his underlying message? And what is that message? That Igbos don’t feel wanted in Nigeria. That decades of official marginalization and discrimination should be stopped or they would be ready to take their chances in a new nation. First, for those who think this is all about Jonathan and Buhari. It is not. Igbos were disappointed that Jonathan did not win. But those whose candidates lose elections lick their wounds. It is allowed. It happens when your candidate loses election. Why did the Igbos invest so much emotions in Jonathan, a non-Igbo Ijaw? It was more because of the fear of their experience in the past 50 years. Nigeria has placed an embargo on any Igbo man becoming Nigerian president. Jonathan was the next best thing. Other parts of Nigeria have supported their sons to the presidency. Some have bombed Nigeria into submission to get their son to Aso Rock. Igbos have little capacity to blackmail Nigeria to the presidency. They chose Jonathan as their “Igbo”. But that’s not to say that they are angry enough because he lost to contemplate going to war on his behalf. Jonathan was not really the model of a President you would go to war for. And his Ijaw people have accepted his loss. So? Igbo anger has been building up in Nigeria since I was a kid in the 70s. As kids, we made choices in our school years based on the narrative of the Igbo place in Nigeria. We knew of the glass ceiling against Igbos before we were out of puberty. After the civil war, despite the “No winner, no vanquished” program, Nigeria placed glass ceilings and no-go areas for Igbos. The war reconstruction program was observed more in the breach. There was the “abandoned” property program that was introduced to drive a wedge between components of the former South-East Nigeria. While the country was too embarrassed to put the discrimination program down in an official gazette, it was there for anyone who cared to look. It was evident in the Igbo police officer who stayed in one position while less qualifies juniors progressed to become his bosses. It was evident when no Igbo qualified to become the Inspector General of Police, or leader any division in the armed forces. It was there when "sensitive" or "lucrative" positions were shared in Nigeria and Igbos were conspicuously absent. It was there when Igbos were only fit enough to be made Minister of Information until Obasanjo came to power. And even recently, it was there when Buhari appointed 47 people to man the critical roles in his government and no one from the South east was there. Any time there is a federal appointment in Nigeria, its usually the east that shouts. It was there from Buhari first term to his second term and anyone in-between. The Igbo elite called it marginalization. Other Nigerians countered by saying no part of Nigeria was getting enough. Marginalization was universal. But they forgot something. The Igbo cry of marginalization was official policy. It was expected. It was programmed. And occasionally, key government officials let it slip that Igbos should not complain. After all, they fought a war with Nigeria. Talk about No Victor, No Vanquished. There was a Victor alright. And they were reminded of that at every turn. Every appointment. Every national project. Nigeria was only pretending. Igbos were licking their wounds and complaining and the rest of Nigeria was too busy to notice. Go to the South-East today. Since the 70s and the oil boom. Nigeria has invested in commercial industries across the country. None has been sited in the South east. None. Refineries, Steel Plants, Cement Firms. Any Industry. The South East was systematically de-industrialized. Even when it was the best location for any industry, there was always a reason why it should not be sited there. What this means was that any Igbo man that wanted to work in a commercial federal establishment had to leave the east. Add this to the indigenization policy of the early 70s that pushed the Igbos out of private companies. It meant that international companies also avoided expansion into the south east. The Nigerian Breweries, the Dunlop and other such firms sited their plants outside the East and only set up distribution centers to sell in the region. This is one of the main reasons the exodus of Igbos from the zone accelerated after the war and continues to this day despite the hostility they face in certain parts of Nigeria. And why most became traders and commercial business men. Because access to organized work either in the government, government commercial institutions and even commercial institutions were limited. The only industrial enterprise in the east are built by easterners; Nnewi, Aba, Onitsha. These are Igbo indigenous industrial cities. This has been the practice since the end of the war. In addition to this, the Federal Government has systematically made it difficult for Easterners to do commercial business even in the East. The Federal Roads in the East are some of the worst in Nigeria. The Eastern Sea ports have been made ineffective. It was a war to get the Enugu Airport upgraded to an International Airport. The former Finance Minister shed tears on the day the first International Flight landed in Enugu. Yes, Okonjo Iwealla cried! Recently, it was only the South East that was conspicuously missing in the New Railway Plan of the Federal Government. Nigeria has 6 regions. And one was missing in a national railway plan. Incidentally, Igbos who reside here are the most itinerant in the country and would benefit most from a national transport plan. Even our President changed the plan to include his village Daura but a zone of the country was not included. When you go to the east, despite the lack of federal presence, the presence of police all over the east tells a story. They mount road blocks and make it difficult to have commercial activity. Recently, Customs has joined. And lastly the army. It is an occupied territory. They extort money. They intimate. They recently have started killing. Nigeria has made the east unlivable. Purposely. Carefully. I am often in conversations where people accuse the east of being clannish. That while we are welcome in all parts of Nigeria, outsiders cannot come to the East. My question is: why would you come to the east? To do what? There is no business to do in the east. Nigeria has ensured that. Why would someone from the South West of Nigeria go to the East to invest? No one would prevent you. But it hardly makes commercial sense. Nigeria has ensured that. Those from the North are there in droves. Igbos love to celebrate with cows. And the cattlemen, onions and tomatoes sellers go there to sell their cattle and products. No one molests them. In my village and most villages in the East, they live unmolested. But those are the only people who can find commercial reason to be there! So those who wonder why Igbos are angry, wonder no more. While most would not dare carry arms against Nigeria, don’t under estimate the level of disconnection and anger especially among the younger generation. Nigeria is made of nations that came together to form a country. No nation will like to be in perpetual servitude. That Nnamdi Kanu’s supporters starred down army tanks with sticks is a sign that the next generation will be ready to fight bare hands if necessary to stop Nigeria treating the Igbo nation as second-class citizens. There will be fiercer and angrier Kanus in our immediate future if Nigeria does not officially stop the “vanquished “program against the Igbos who fought the civil war. You cannot preach unity and indivisibility of the country on TV and all your actions point at discriminating against the components of the country. It is as dangerous as it is foolhardy. Let those who preach unity walk the talk and stop open discrimination of their countrymen. History has shown that you cannot decree peace. You cannot decree unity. You cannot force any group to belong to a country by force, it may work for a time. But never sustainable. Nigeria has a lot to look forward to as a united country. It also has enough for the regions and nations that make up the country. Our diversity is a blessing. Our failure to reach our potential is caused mostly by the internal contradictions and the inability to build a fair country that can bring out the best out of her component regions. Those who shout most about loving Nigeria today are mostly those its current unfair structure favor. But Nigeria will continue being as strong as its weakest link. And the weak links are all there to see. The East is one of the weakest links. Until it stops being a weak link, Nigeria cannot truly make progress. The recent Army declaration of victory against IPOB like was done after the massacre of unarmed Shiites in Zaria is totally unnecessary since no war was declared as they simply killed unarmed misdirected Igbo youths in cold blood, Victory for the Army is when armed groups such as Boko Haram terrorists which still controls several local governments in Borno State are defeated. *Now let's reason together and think about my counter views on Igbo bashing as expressed below* ______&&&&&&&----------- But ask yourself, did the Igbos put guns on anybody's head before buying up Alaba, Ajegunle, isolo and Oshodi in Lagos. Did they use juju before the Ibadan surrendered Iwo Road to them? And what were we looking at before the Igbos took over Isida and Adeti in Ilesa. Where were the YORUBAS when the Igbos thrived and built 90% of the Hotels at Abuja. Was there a law that excluded the YORUBAS from selling building materials? Dei Dei building materials market in Abuja is 90 % Igbo owned. So the more we point one finger at the Igbos, the more we have the other four fingers pointing at our laziness and lack of initiative as a society. The YORUBAS should have been better with all our education, but we may be worse that the Fulanis who just roam around the bush. Why? Because we lack the entrepreneurship spirit. We just want salaries from doing 8am to 5pm job. We proceed in foolishness and we persist in hoping to reap plenty without sowing hard. The Igbos are different, hence we are now jealous and envious. We love wasteful parties and Aso Ebi. Just a little business without even making any profit yet, we usually call musicians to spray money like confetti. Many of us are cheering the killing of Igbo youths agitating for Biafra by the Army mostly out of hate and jealousy, while we feel that Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters have taken the wrong route of subversion and attempting to divide the nation, but we are equally held down and bedeviled by the same issues that gave rise to IPOB which includes youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, poverty and hopelessness in the midst of plenty, poor leadership etc Where are all the Board Members of Ebenezer Obey today? Where is lawyer Omoyinmi and Lanre Badmus? Where is Oroki Social Club of Osogbo? Where is Felates of Ilesa and the likes whose trade mark was to bring Sunny Ade to Ilesa every Xmas, to waste all income gathered for the year? The Yoruba society wasted their leading lights on excessive consumption and wasteful attitudes. We wasted our capital on frivolous social gatherings. Yes we can boast of a few billionaires, majority of our people still languish in squalor, while some of our kinsmen are still shamefully engaging in rituals believing it is the route to quick wealth in this modern times, causing untold horror to ritual victims families. We took religion to ridiculous levels, such that the wealthiest pastors and churches are now Yorubas. But all the wealth extracted by the churches from the Yoruba nation is also merely flaunted to show who's God is the most miraculous. So we have become paupers and destitutes, as the Yoruba nation cannot now pay salaries. Pensions are owed for years. Tell me, is Osun State filled with human beings or goats to have tolerated Aregbesola, when they rejected Akande. Say it loud, is the Constituted Authority of Ibadan sane to just bring about 21 Obas from nowhere to receive salaries, where there is no money to reopen Ladoja Akintola University? Are the Ondos so wise to have allowed Mimiko to devastate their terrain as to be now saddled with 12 months salary arrears? What of Ekiti with rabble rousing Fayose and the intellectually arrogant Fayemi? Even Lagos, there is nothing to write home about it, despite all the hype. But the Igbos are hard workers. Let us not continue to deceive ourselves. 20 of their young boys can live in the shop from where they sell goods. There is no place too dirty or remote for them to hibernate and incubate their ideas. Give them 5 years, you will see them buy and take over all shops and lands. True, some of them are criminals, but majority of the Igbo youths build and build physical structures away, while the YORUBAS are content with looking for salaried jobs, so that they can have siesta in the afternoons and then attend parties on Saturdays. Then spend Sundays in church wishing and praying for divine miracles. How foolish, as the Igbo people are meeting and strategizing on Sunday, so that they can gather money and come and buy the houses and lands owned by our Yoruba fathers. Whether we like it or not, Obokungbusi Town Hall will soon be on concessional PPP sale. The Igbos will buy it. The proceeds will be used to pay backlog of salaries owed to impoverished Ijeshas. It will come willy nilly. It will happen even in a declared Oduduwa Republic. Afterall, the Chinese, the Lebanese and the South Africans are buying us out with reckless abandon. See how ShopRite is buying up everywhere. I heard that they bought Owena Motel estate in Akure. How come we did not sell it to the Igbos? We shall continue to grumble and hate the Igbos until eternity. Unless we spy on them, copy their ways and imbibe their can do attitude. The Yoruba nation and society have been pauperised and destituted. In desperation, we shall soon start to behave like the Almajiris' in the North. In grinding poverty and out of jealousy, the Almajiris of the North regularly loot Igbo shops and businesses. Very soon Yoruba urchins will start looting too to show that they hate the Igbos. Even some of us here will defend it to show our hatred for the Igbos. Whereas, the looting is as a result of hunger and uselessness of our society. How sad for the Yoruba Nation. ![]() Copied. |

If they are a terrorist group, the UN will not permit them to come near their Headquarters in New-York where Buhari is attending the UNGA meeting. It is regrettable that our Army which has fought gallantly in many theaters of war both within and outside the country and have won accolades was reduced into doing Police work and applying sentiments by killing what I may call ignorant youths deceived by Nnamdi Kanus propaganda in cold blood. Its dirty, disproportionate and inhuman, this will not help us to attract the needed foreign investments and help our tourism potentials. I hope that Vice President Osinbajo will use the few days that Buhari will be away to calm frayed nerves, restore confidence of the people like he did recently when he visited even the creeks and got the militants dropped their weapons, raising oil production and getting us out of recession. A feat that military invasions of the Niger Delta could not achieve for years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=647mr10vupM |
The Yorubas are the chief promoters of Nnamdi Kanu, they use their media to give him wide publicity, now that the focus is on IPOB and the South East they feel they can safely ask for restructuring. |

If tax in Nigeria is the new oil why is FG spending tax payers on looking for same oil in Lake Chad Basin that led to Boko Haram killing and abducting UNIMAID lecturers. Why is the core North not predisposed to restructuring of Nigeria so that they can enjoy the 'new oil' without using the Army to invade the oil producing states in the South South and South East. The killings of those youths in cold is a very act by the Army. Even many Igbos see them as ignorants following an ignoramus, why cut them down in such horrible manner ![]() |

Many Yoruba Muslims seems to have enjoyed the brutalisation of Igbo youths by the Army. Same way the celebrated the massacre of Shiites in Zaria. Falana should consider calling his Yoruba Muslim brothers to stop encouraging the killing of other people because of their blind support for Buhari. Handiwork of the Acting President to reduce inflation during his absence. Buhari came back from London and spoilt everything that Osibanjo had achieved to take us out of recession. This morning Hausas have opened shops in Aba and Umuahia, which shows that they are not anticipating any form of attack from the Igbos or IPOB contrary to what Yoruba media has been peddling in order to cause a rift and reprisal attacks on the Igbos resident in the North. They even claimed that 3 Northerners were killed by IPOB without any evidence and it turned out to be fake news. Igbos know that their problem is from the Yoruba controlled media which has been used to demonize them right from the civil war days, to the extent that the coup planned by Nzeogwu and Major Ademulegun as second in command was labelled an Igbo coup even though no Igbo citizens were consulted before the carried out the coup. Nnamdi Kanu got all the publicity that made him popular from Nigeria western media, they cover his every move and give it wide publicity and still pretend hat they hate him, I hope Nigerians will start seeing through this South West scheme. It was the western media that labelled the Niger Delta agitators as 'militants' which gave the Army the propaganda they needed to start a killing spree of youths in the Niger Delta asking for a fair share in their God given resources because most of the workers in the middle level are Yorubas while the Northerners own the oil blocks |
IPOB have not attacked nor harmed the Hausas in their midst. They know that the Hausa traders are not their enemies despite all the Yoruba propaganda to pitch Igbos against Hausas |

One point has now been proven that State Governors are not the Chief security Officers of their States, if a Gov can hold talks with the Army leadership in Abia to start withdrawing from the streets, then another instruction comes from Abuja for the soldiers to remain and occupy the streets. This is part of the reasons many have demanded for State Police. The killings in Abia is totally avoidable. A good part is also that no Northerner was killed contrary to fake news that was spread around. Its also unfortunate watching our Army doing what is supposed to be Police job on the streets which doesn't happen in civilized climes and disrespect shown to South East Governors and elders who have intervened on the issue of Nnamdi Kanu and his group. ![]() |
My Berom neighbour is angry that Hausas who dont own the city of Jos are engaging the Igbos and even having the audacity to ask them to leave their 'area'. While they dont support Nnamdi Kanu and his group and dont have any quarrel with Igbos resident in their State, they will not tolerate any iota of claim by any Hausa man to the ownership of Jos, Plateau State as that alone could lead to resumption of another crisis.
