Although Vancouver is an expensive city to live in, i don't think you need up to $25k per year for living expenses as a student. Plus or minus $10k should be enough based on the way you wanna live a lifestyle.

Monthly rent is usually the main expense.

Riddeek:
Guys living in BC
Can a UBC grad student survive on $10k per year for personal expenses after paying for tuition? What i have been reading online is like one needs to budget $25k a year to live in Vancouver.

I'm sorry sir. That is not for me to judge/decide. I only said that based on my recent experience this year and that of friends that i know are married.

You can give it a try!

Why would they not want to give a spouse visiting visa? what if the spouse is not ready for open work permit? just want to visit and go back. I dont think this is correct
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Gymme(m): 10:38am On Nov 13, 2016
See, i am just gonna advise you based on my experience and that of a friend.

First, i won't advise you guys to apply for Visiting Visa because it seems they hardly (if they have not totally stopped) give Visiting visa to someone with a spouse in Canada.

It is a bit late as someone rightly said. However, i believe you should still put in the application for SOWP since you still have atleast 6 months on your study permit. This is because you need to get a job in Skill Level O, A or B with your PGWP which is the requirement to grant SOWP : A job in skill level O, A or B

Nevertheless, if you are sure you will get a job in level O, A or B, then you can wait till you get your PGWP before you apply for SOWP.

I NEED ADVISE O ABEG
Hi everyone,

I need urgent advise on what to do. I am currently a graduate student in Canada. Recently I came to Nigeria to marry my fiance of 4years. Prior to my arrival we had plans of bringing him over to Canada through the SOWP. I have told him about the whole process, getting some cash for fixed deposit and all. This was in a bid to save time because I am being mindful of the time left on my TRV. Unfortunately after our wedding, he could not raise his own part of the proof of finance on time. I know quite well that it is not a requirement but then we needed to cross our i's and t's. Right now, we have all the required document. However, I am 5 months away from graduation(April) and 9 months away from expiration of my TRV(August). I am not sure if we should still go ahead with this application, or let him apply for visit instead. I am utterly confused and I really need advise. cc oga siga , onyeoma8, oga akanni oga justwise, oga chrigo everybody help o!

More explicitly, if she's got a child already, he/she can be used as home tie.

Austinpee4:

Absolutely. The person must give in his/her letter of invitation reasons for inviting you, show and state relationship to you, show financial status to caretare for you and all or any dependant(s). On your part, You must show strong home ties to compel your return at the end of your stay.(business, family, work, assets etc). Best regards.

Here is the pointer: the date he submits his complete PR application and the date he gets married.

If he submits his application AFTER getting married (considering the fact that he got an ITA before getting married), he may likely be denied. Since we don't want him to lose his ITA, i have already suggested that he submit his application BEFORE getting married, then AFTER marriage he can inform CIC that his status has changed (this time AFTER submitting his application).

Friends of mine have done it and no problem because the dates are different (submitted PR application and status change).

bigfido:

yes vcole you are right. I looked at the situation. the lowest score is 475 and he had 475. adding a spouse will definitely not make him qualify. I also don't think he should decline the ITA. he might not get another one. I would suggest he goes ahead with the invitation. He can get his PR card and file for the spouse or let her get into the express entry too. My friend in question has since gotten back into the pool with his spouse and his new score is 425. i am not sure he can make any ITA again. maybe going through the route of filing might be a better option. MAYBE.

Husband, American citizen and you want to visit Canada why not US?
A VO would probably think in this light.
If you so like Canada (as in one of your previous post), i would suggest you get a US visa (though takes longer for a US citizen's spouse), then getting into Canada from US will be a piece of cake for you.

You can still try with a strong LoE though!

What a friend of mine did was that after submitting his application for PR, he then included his wife. This is because it takes longer to bring your spouse AFTER getting your PR.

I would advise you submit/complete your application BEFORE you get married. After marriage, you can then include your spouse in your application. Otherwise, you will need to decline your ITA because it is likely your score may not meet the cut-off point with which you got your ITA.

Bumdesh:
Please people let's help a brother that's in a fix

Hi All,
I need small clarification. My score is 475 and I received ITA in the last draw. I got these points as an unmarried. I am getting married next week and I am confused on how to proceed.

Option 1:
Should I continue my application as a single applicant and apply for dependent visa once my PR is issued? Is it still valid?

Option2:
Should I include my spouse's details before applying for the PR? In that case, does she needs to take IELTS and get her transcripts verified? This is not at all feasible in 2 months time.

Pls advise.

Since it is paper, you must have submitted through VFS. So they won't email you. They will send any correspondence through mail (VFS).

Nah. No worries, it's not gonna be an issue.

Thanks very much. On my IMM form the duration is January 2017 to January 2018. Now that I may likely defer to September wont it be an issue.? Thanks
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Gymme(m): 12:49pm On Oct 25, 2016
As per medical, you should wait until you are instructed to go for it since it was not upfront. If 'visa' is not ready when it is close to January resumption, you can defer your admission without informing VFS.
'Student visa validity is the duration of your program as you indicated on the IMM form. So if you applied for TRV yourself, you would know what you put there under 'duration of your program'.

Oyemat123:
Hello house, I have been a follower of this thread and it has really been helpful. I just want to inquire something.
I have gotten admission to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology to study Masters in Information Security for January 2017. The admission letter came in late September and I applied for the study visa on the first of October, I did the biometrics on the 6th of October. I haven't gotten any information yet on Medicals. I am worried that the study permit may not be out before the resumption date. If I am to defer my admission till September do I need to contact VFS about the decision or just wait till the visa is out and move September. Secondly how many years validity is the student visa

It makes sense but not actually possible to 'a large extent'. You can give it a try by applying to as many jobs as possible on the 'site'. But please if you are required to pay any money, just forget the 'Canadian site'.

You can check Selkrik College but not sure if January is still visible. This is because they said they can't issue an offer letter for january because of the long visa processing from Nigeria. You could try May semester nevertheless.

Congrats Vcole! What a timeline! Just 5 days after creating an EE profile.

vcole:
WOW!!!!
I just got ITA. I had no idea there was gonna be a draw today. Gosh! this feels so surreal. I only entered the pool last friday. WOW!!!

For other doctors and health professionals, I would try to give details of my process so far and I hope it would help give an idea of timelines if you need it.

So, finally decided to start the process for EE in June, 2016.
Set up my physicians apply account($278) on 18th June and commenced the SVR ($157) for my medical degree.
I sent the necessary copies (all notarized) of documents required by MCC (certified identity confirmation, medical degree, passport bio-data page, consent release form and marriage certificate) via DHL and they acknowledged receipt and uploaded to my account on 29th June.

However, I got a message at this point that the copy of my marriage certificate was cut off on one margin and so my medical degree was given an incomplete status until i sent a full copy to them. I had to send by courier again and I was so not happy about paying that DHL fee twice.

My medical degree was changed to an accepted status after they received and approved the new copy of my marriage certificate on July 21st. They sent it to ECFMG same day and ECFMG sent the verification request to my school on July 22nd.

My school received the request by September 8th (about 7 weeks after it was sent via regular post) and I paid for the reply to be sent via courier on September 14th. It was delivered to ECFMG on September 21st.
ECFMG returned my verification: passed to MCC on Oct 7th. (it took about 11 working days as opposed to 20 as advised on their site).
I paid for my ECA ($102) same day and courier fee to Nigeria ($140).
I received an email on Oct 14th from MCC notifying me that my ECA was ready. (it was issued on OCt 11th. so it took 3 working days as opposed to 21 working days as advised on the site). I received my ECA via courier today.

I created my EE profile on Oct 14th with CRS of 482 (claiming 10 points for my spouse's degree and 18 points for his IELTS).

ITA received today. Now, time to prep all documents.

Congrats to everyone who received an ITA with this recent draw and all the best to everyone still awaiting an invite, it will surely happen soon.

It starts counting after studies if the work NEEDS the educational qualification.

Omonjoe:
Just a quick question

Is ones years of experience caculated after studies?
I started working in my field in 2011 and in 2013 I enrolled for my masters while still working.

I resigned from the work December 2015 after working for four years and three months to go for a program outside Nigeria; still in the program though.

My question is will my 4 experience still count despite not working now and doing a masters in between?

Thanks @dupyshoo. So on point!!!

dupyshoo:
1. Yes, you can remove the employer so far it does not affect your eligibility of 1 year work experience under NOC 0. A or B. I am certain of this as I removed a work experience that did not fetch me extra marks after ITA. I however included the work experience under Personal History/Activities.

2. I am not really sure of this but what I will do if I were in your shoes is to get an evidence that the company is no longer in existence. I will also get payslips, ID card, bank statements, offer letters and any other documents to show that I worked there. Finally, I will write the letter of experience and get a former colleague or supervisor to sign the letter.

Quick questions here please:

1) If one can't get a Reference Letter from an old employer, can one remove the employment history from the EE profile after getting an ITA for PR?
To explain better, i got an ITA under PNP while the old employer in question relates to getting an ITA under FSW. So will removing the employer have an effect?

2) Also, what do you do if an old employer is no more in business (company folded/bankrupt) with respect to getting a Reference Letter?

Hopefully, i get someone to brainstorm my questions here for the first time. All idea is needed and welcomed please.

He is already in Canada though.

expertman:

He should email them asap. From my experience if he is applying as a student.

He should check the resumption date he input on his application.

For instance we in October now and on his app he choses January as resumption time then such is likely to cause delay in processing as later cuz would claim purpose of visit.

Nevertheless he should email them asap.

I'm currently studying in Canada, I want my wife to come and join me, but without our 7 months old baby, I want both of them to apply for the visa but when the visa is approved, i want only her to come and then the little one can join later. The question is will she be allowed to travel alone without the baby??

Thank you very much for your anticipated answer.
