Crime / Re: Fulani Herdsman Dies After Fight With Female Farmer In Delta by Habyz(m): 9:40am On Jan 13, 2018
Farmerforlife:

There is no objectivity here. That some Fulani herdsmen killed some people does not make them all killers liable to 'self-defence'. If that were to be a defence in court, then I can claim the spate of kidnappings in the East as an indicator that all Igbos are kidnappers and drug dealers, and therefore it is acceptable to kill them from fear of being kidnapped. I can also claim that news reaching me of human sacrifice in Yoruba areas are an indicator of all Yorubas being cultists, therefore any Yoruba that comes near my house is a suspect. The law should not work that way. I admitted that the media has a lot of culpability in instilling this hostile mindset towards the Fulani that result in such tragic deaths, but the law will not take this into account. And no one should be above the law based on a warped social media idea of right and wrong.
As for the stone throwing, we do not know that the Fulani man was the first to throw stones forcing her to retaliate. It seems that you also are falling into the trap of emotional judgment, the assumption that the Fulani are guilty until proven otherwise. This is not a valid argument under any law. A wise commenter should maintain total objectivity.
I was and still am maintaining total objectivity when I blamed the herdsmen for encroaching her land, I was maintaining the same objectivity when I blamed her for killing.
You make it seem as though I am taking sides albeit I don't know either one of them and just so you know I happen to know a few Fulani and igbo persons, funny how I'm at the receiving end of this 'Lecture' cos I am a Muslim and I have been termed a terrorist by different people simply because some asshole in one part of the world hurts people and shouts God is great in Arabic so even if I don't like the Fulani the hurt I feel when I'm called a terrorist should be enough to stop me from labelling them all as killers.

You're still a baby Muslim. Next thing remaining is for you to visit Afghanistan and Pakistan to learn the violent part of your new religion so you can call yourself complete.
Since you know about the "violent part" of her new religion why not point out a verse in the Quran that supports violence. If you don't do this then it means you're a brainwashed riffraff.

I wonder how anyone will convert to Islam. I don't know how. How is it done? You leave one uncertain position, the more reasonable to another uncertain position that is less reasonable. How do you leave that guy called Jesus for Mohammed? I have no doubt in my mind who among the two should be emulated. But all hail the colonialist.

Muslims follow Almighty not the Holy Prophet Muhammad, to us Muhammad is just a prophet and messenger, Christians follow Jesus Christ to them he is God who died on the cross of cavalry and took away their sins albeit there are still sins in the world today. Which one of the two do you still think Is "less reasonable"?

Hmm... so why didn't she convert to Islam before meeting her husband Wasiu?

Some of these people just share hate against Christianity when they were never truly Christians themselves. It's her type that will be looking for C&S and Cele churches where the prophet has ''powers'' regardless of the origin of their magic.

If truly she was rejected by the ''Church'' and she was a true believer, she would know that even Jesus Christ our Lord was rejected.

I hope she won't turn to a pagan when she sees the other side of Islam... undecided

It's suddenly hate against Christianity when she decides to share her reason for conversion after five years.
So C&S and Celestial churches are the only churches who have prophets now, the have suddenly become the magical parts of Christianity.
If truly she was rejected by the ''Church'' and she was a true believer, she would know that even Jesus Christ our Lord was rejected.
Since she's converted she was never a true believer abi.
Tell me the "other side of Islam" that would make her a pagan when she sees.
The level of hypocrisy you Christians exhibit when there is a conversion baffles me.

No one is denying that. However, it is clearly wrong to kill a 15 year old boy because his cattle encroached on your farm. I tend to think that the problem is the demonisation of Fulani herdsmen. Had some goats belonging to a person from a neighbouring village and under his 15 year old son's care encroached on her farm, I doubt that she would have tried to stone the boy.
I'm not denying the fact that she committed murder rather I'm trying to let you see reasons why anyone in her position might have reacted the same way she did, this herdsmen encroached her farmland trying to feed their cattle, with the spate if alleged killings by these herdsmen it is understandable if she feels uncomfortable around them, they threw stones at her the farm owner and she reacted doesn't that sound like self defense?

How come?

One of the sources in the area said , “ When the owner of the farm , a lady , accosted the herdsmen while they grazed on her farm with their herds , a verbal confrontation ensued."

Why graze on another man's means of livelihood? This is pure wickedness. But stoning to death is way too far and we condemn jungle justice.

This is a sign that Nigeria under APC & Buhary is gradually becoming a failed and lawless state.

RIP to the dead.

I support any collective efforts to fight against the Fulani terrorist. Let it be the entire community against them and their sponsors but not one poor woman against the Presidency.
They were both stoning themselves.
Farmerforlife:

The article says that they were running away, when one of them got killed, and I am sure that the events are not as simplistic as is spelt out, given the tendency that we have to demonise all Fulani herdsmen. I relate with many of them during the course of my business, quite a lot, and when they are given respect, they are harmless, they have never thrown stones at me. This is why hate speech is so harmful to society, it puts the communicants in a hateful mindset and makes them unwilling to even think of discussing issues.

Whatever the case may be, I do not believe that encroachment on my farm is a capital offence. I can always go to the community leadership and lodge a complaint for compensation, or failing that, inform the police. Even if the death happened by mistake, it is still a case of manslaughter and should be treated as such. The 15 year old victim's belonging to a specific tribe is no excuse to kill him and get away with it. That is sick.
Killing is wrong and so is encroaching a persons property.

Mr President your silence on this matter has made a lot of people rethink whether you truly are a man of honor or not, how is it that these bastards called herdsmen keep killing people and getting away with it, I don't want to hear the crap about the presidency and security agencies trying their best because we are all witnesses of your different levels of success with other terrorists like the Boko Haram, IPOB, Evans, and most recently Don Wanny. Why is it that you have refused to even label them as terrorists despite the killings and worst of all you have said nothing about it. Agreed the anti-grazing law might not be comfortable for them but what about the other citizens who number up to at least 150 million that bear the burden of the grazing, even if it isn't favourable to them does that make it right to kill people?
You are a joker if you think you'll retain your position without doing the necessary.

But you read where he embraced Wike's amnesty before returning to his evil ways. And that was after he had gotten the mansion. So tell me what pushed him back to crime.

Some of these criminals would want to quit once they get something like this, amnesty or no amnesty. They will reason among themselves that if crime can take them this far, then it's a worthy venture. And they will never rest until they get their own mansion.
It depends on the way we see things?

So that future kidnappers and ritualists will draw inspiration from the edifice whenever they drive past it?

One of them will now tell the other, "Bullet, shebi you dey see that mansion wey dey there? Na Don Wanny get am oo.
And Bullet will reply "Choi! Money dey this business oo but the guy no use im head well. If na me, once I get that kind mansion, I go embrace amnesty sharperly.

Again, once that building is converted to something else, it means Don Wanny has been immortalized. Because whenever the residents see the building (irrespective of whatever color you choose to paint it), the picture of the daredevil and his atrocities comes to mind. Is that what you want to be reminding them everytime?
If future kidnappers see the building it might make them reason that he didn't live long enough to enjoy the happiness the house gave him. Do you think every government would implement any form of amnesty program for criminals?
If Don wanny is "immortalized" citizens who see the building and know his story would reason that any form of vice results in untimely death.

Africans don't understand how the world works, that's why no matter how educated we are we still act no differently from our illiterate brothers and sisters living in our remote villages because we believe the same way that they do. We are too superstitious and we hide and mask behind our various religious beliefs to further our childish and primitive superstitious beliefs. It doesn't matter if we are in Nigeria, UK, France, US, China etc. We just keep carrying our ridiculous superstitions where ever we go.

The whites find that hard to believe and swallow. A white man can not understand how God will make you a millionaire by simply praying to him, or cure you of cancer. If God cures people from cancer hospitals and their very expensive medical equipments will not exist. If praying to God, sowing seeds and paying tithes makes people rich then African christians will be the richest people on earth.

When I first went to Germany over a decade ago I was astonished to realize that the christians there don't believe in miraculous healings the way we do. The way Nigerian christians have discarded all the old testament laws (except tithing ) is the way they have discarded things like miracles and other magical beliefs that comes from the bible.

Imagine people living in UK holding childish beliefs that if they sow seeds, God will make them pass their exams. What kind of primitive and childish superstitious nonsense is that?
A white man can not understand how God will make you a millionaire by simply praying to him, or cure you of cancer.
He doesn't believe these things but he believes the superstitions about black clothing during funerals, he believes the crap about the number 13.
I am an African and a Nigerian, I don't believe in superstitions so please stop generalizing.

Unfortunately, there's no organization in Nigeria empowered by the government to monitor finances of religious organizations for transparency.

One only needs basic common sense to know that Nigerian pastors are fraudsters and they ought to rot in jail.
CAN should be busy dealing with "Pastors" like these but all they do is talk trash.
