EducationRe: Chinedu John: 19-Year-Old Who Sued JAMB For N1 Billion Over Result Arrested by HADI854: 7:52pm On Sep 03, 2021
Sixsigmahub:
Update from

There was mild drama at the headquarters of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) Bwari, FCT as a 19 year – old candidate in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Chinedu Ifesinachi John, who accused the board of altering his original score of 380 was handed over to the Police for investigation.

John had claimed he scored 380 in the examination conducted in June and was surprised to receive 265 from the board after the results were released, reports.

After several enquiries, 265 kept appearing as his score as against the 380 score.

Following the alleged “alteration” of the UTME score, his father, John Ifenkpam approached an Enugu – based lawyer, Ikeazor Akaiwe, who wrote to JAMB for another opportunity for the boy to retake the examination and demanded N1 billion as damages.

The lawyer said in an official letter addressed to the board that the N1 billion was to cover for the physical and emotional trauma the boy had been through from being offered “two separate scores from 2019 – 2021.”

Master John claimed that his UTME scores from 2019 till 2021 had been “altered” by the board, thereby denying him the opportunity to study his desired course – medicine.

According to , on Friday, the candidate, his father and lawyers traveled down to Abuja from Enugu state following an invitation from the management of the board led by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is – haq Oloyede.

Initially, the boy was given few minutes to “come clean” in a closed session with his father and lawyers about the results he was parading but insisted that his original score from the examination was 380.

After going back and forth, the board tendered evidence to counter the claim by John and his legal representatives.

At the Friday meeting, documentary evidence tendered by the board showed that John actually scored 265 not the 380 he had claimed.

Oloyede accused the candidate of result tempering, adding that he will be handed over to the police for investigation and subsequently prosecuted.

The registrar said John was among 11 eleven other candidates who allegedly forged their results that the board would prosecute.

He said the original result issued to John would be withdrawn pending the end of the investigation.

The registrar said: “We will give you five minutes for your child to tell you the truth. If he doesn’t tell you the truth and come back we will show you what your son has done and hand him over to the police.

“Who is helping you to do it? How much did he pay; if you don’t tell your father the truth we will hand you over to the police and you must be prosecuted.

“We have 11 of them who tampered with their results. Two of them are already being prosecuted.

“The remaining ones we are going to withdraw their results and prosecute them. The main purpose is to sanitise the system, including our own staff.

“There was never any communication of 380 with this boy. Because this boy has accused JAMB, we are going to withhold his result until the investigation is concluded. We are going to request that our interactions with him be subjected to the public.

“As far as I am concerned I am reporting you to the IG now except you tell me who helped you to commit this crime.”

The registrar said the boy needed redemption with the crimes he had allegedly “committed.”

He also said a team of security agents would visit Enugu state to arrest members of a tutorial group the boy confessed to belong to.

According to Oloyede, tutorial owners are at the heart of examination malpractice in the country, saying the board would not relent in fighting them.

His lawyer, Ikeazor, appealed to the board to give room for further investigation.

He said: “I will not stand against investigation. Let there be investigation but what I will not agree to is to prejudge him.”

John had said: “The result I have been receiving is not the result I am entitled to. I wrote the first JAMB in 2019.

“The first time they sent 328 later I saw 278 score when I checked it. I printed it. I couldn’t meet up for admission that year. I wanted to study medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan.

“In 2020 the same thing happened. I scored 343 by the time I went to the portal to print I saw 306. I used the 306 and it gave me admission in UI. But because I didn’t have further mathematics I had to forfeit it.

“I decided to leave medicine and surgery for them in 2021 so I picked petroleum engineering. In 2021, JAMB issued me two results. I saw 380 the first time I checked then the second I saw 265.”

Evii:
7 REASONS WHY DEGREE HOLDERS ARE POOR?*

*Gbenga Adebambo*
The Guardian

BASICALLY, there are seven reasons why degree holders are poor.

*1. THEY DON’T THINK BEYOND THEIR CERTIFICATES*

Albert Einstein said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” Have you ever heard creativity term “Think outside the box”? One of the major reasons why most graduates are poor is simply because they can’t see and think beyond their certificates.
I have seen engineering students work as bankers. I have seen medical doctors with great skills in web and graphic designs. I have seen lawyers that are very dexterous with finances. The list is endless!

The basic truth of life is that the skills that are needed to be much sought after and become more successful in life are not really found within the walls of the classrooms. Your certificate is just a proof that you are teachable, it does not suggest what you are totally capable of doing. You are full of possibilities when you think beyond your degrees and certificates.

*2. THEY PRIORITIZE THEIR CERTIFICATES MORE THAN THEIR GIFTS AND TALENTS*

I have often advised some of my colleagues, never to leave their gifts dormant while pursuing and hunting for jobs with their certificates. There must be a complementary balance in the pursuit of your passion and in the search for jobs.

Everybody is gifted for something, but the winning edge comes from our ability to work on our gifts and bless the world with it. The very best way to develop yourself is in the direction of your natural talents and interest. In order to live a fulfilled and impactful life, we need to work harder on our gift than our job. We need to discover our gift, develop it, and sell it. Don’t bury your TALENT with your certificates.

*3. THEIR CERTIFICATES PREPARE THEM FOR A WORLD THAT NO LONGER EXIST*

It has been found that most of the skills taught in schools are becoming obsolete in the present world. The world has changed a lot, and so are people’s need! It is imperative to know that the present form of university education does not prepare students for the future.

Graduates are becoming endangered species in the face of a changing world. Our archaic methods and approaches of learning are preparing graduates for a world that no longer exist, as we are churning out degree holders every year with certificates that have face value but no intrinsic worth. Most learning institutions are filled up with lecturers and pseudo-educators with lecture notes, methods and approaches that have lost relevance in a changing world.

*4. THEY KNOW LESS ABOUT THEMSELVES BUT MORE ABOUT THINGS*

Certificates and degrees don’t reveal people to themselves; they at most measure our IQ (Intelligent Quotient). I have often tell people that there is no Recovery without Discovery. A poor man is simply someone that has not discovered himself.

The more you discover yourself, the more you realize the treasures that are hidden deep within you. We carry inside ourselves latent treasures that can only be unveiled through self-discovery.

*5. CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES CAN KILL INITIATIVES*

Degrees and certificates can close up your minds to ideas while initiatives open it up. If you are not careful, your degrees and certificates can close up your mind. The purpose of education is to keep your mind perpetually opened towards limitless possibilities!

Fred Smith saw an opportunity for overnight delivery of anything anywhere in the USA, and ultra-fast delivery anywhere in the world, FedEx was born. It will be interesting to know that Fred Smith got a grade “C” in a Yale economics class for an idea that the professor belittled as unworkable.
Fred Smith’s company became the first American business to make over ten billion dollars in annual profit. Beginning with just 186 packages delivered the first night, FedEx now delivers in over two hundred countries using over 6,030 aircraft, 46,000 vehicles and 141,000 employees.

*6. DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES POSITION YOU TO LOOK FOR JOBS AND NOT FOR OPPORTUNITIES*

Our certificates and degrees prepare graduates to look for jobs and not open our eyes to life-changing opportunities. You are not poor because you don’t have a job; you are poor because you are not seeing and seizing opportunities.

Being POOR is simply Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly! What keeps people ahead in life is not their education or degrees, it is simply the opportunity that they seized. Jobs may be scarce but not opportunities.

As long as there is a problem to be solved, there will always be opportunities. It is a waste of our education, exposure, and experiences if after we graduate from school, all we think about is searching for a job. An enlightened and educated mind should be able to see and seize opportunities.

*7. CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES PREPARE PEOPLE TO LOOK FOR SECURITY AND NOT TO TAKE RISKS*

We must be willing to make mistakes and take breakthrough risks. Taking risks and learning from mistakes help us in knowing what works and what does not! When Thomas Edison was being questioned by a mischievous journalist on how he felt for having failed for 999 times before getting the idea of the light bulb, his response stunned the whole world when he confidently said, “I have not failed 999 times, I have only learned 999 ways of how not to make a light bulb”.

Many graduates and degree holders are becoming progressively poor because the skills required in the modern world to get rich are not taught in schools and institutions.

By 2025, we’ll lose over five million jobs to automation. This means that future jobs will look vastly different by the time many people graduate from the university.

*Future jobs will involve KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION/CREATION* and innovation, and people that are only equipped with skills found in the classroom will definitely be a misfit in an ever-changing world. Skills like critical thinking, creativity, people’s skill, STEM skills (e.g Coding), complex problem-solving skills etc. are central to living a more comprehensive and productive life.

THEREFORE, in conclusion, my humble and candid advice to graduates and students in institutions is to think wide, deep and outside the box. Take voluntary jobs, and don’t be afraid to navigate fields that are different from your field of learning. Your future career will require you to pull information from many different fields to come up with creative solutions to future problems.
Start by reading as much as you can about anything and everything that interests you. Once you get to college, consider double majoring or minoring in completely different fields. Trust me, it’ll pay off in the long run.

Don’t limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail; that’s a better entrepreneurship. Contest an election and lose. It will teach you something political science will not teach you. Attend a seminar. Read books outside the scope of your course.

Think less of becoming an excellent student, but think more of becoming an excellent person. Don’t make the classroom your world, but make the world your classroom. Step forward and try something extra.

Invest in something you believe! Real financial security and freedom is not in your job, but in your passion, gifts, talents, and your ability to see and seize opportunities.
A good point
I had this bro that read mechanical engineering and he was even the one that motivated me into reading that same course but he has decide not to take any work dat has to do with self employment like being a mechanic or working in mechanic workshop

Some students of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE) who were recently awarded First class honours were made to write a qualifying test today to prove they merit their first class status.

Some of the students who spoke to just before the exam started, criticized it saying the information about the test was vague and on short notice. Others welcomed the idea.

Some of the students also spoke to our correspondent after writing the 45 minutes test which they said on quantitative reasoning.

As you may know, the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education decided that all graduating students for the year 2021 on Cumulative Grade point Average of 4.5 and above take what they called qualifying test following concerns that certain factors may have influenced the first class degrees obtained by some students

Nairaland GeneralRe: 5 Most Important Things You Should Never Rush In Life. by HADI854: 6:58pm On Aug 06, 2021
Vipro:
An inspirational writer once wrote “Don’t be in such a rush to reach a goal that you reach the goals before you are ready”. Put your heart into a goal but don't rush, good things in life take time.

We are in a generation where people prefer instant gratification to long-term enjoyment. Little wonder why the world is filled with confused and dissatisfied individuals. People make grievous mistakes and live the rest of their lives in regret.

This article exposes you to five very important things that you should never rush in life.

1. Building A Business
You have got a great idea, so what's next? Raise a capital to start up? Don’t be in a hurry. Having a great idea does not equal having a successful business. A lot of people are so excited about their plans that they immediately venture into execution them. Building a business is an important thing you should never rush in life.

Before you start up that business take time to ask yourself little questions. Questions like if that idea aligns with your passion and future goals? If you will be able to stick to the venture in hard times?

You should also learn more about your proposed business, network with other people in your niche and work on building quality services and products before starting up.

2. Marriage
Walking down the aisle with someone to spend forever with them isn't something to be rushed into. It is a critical life decision most people allowed the pressure from family and friends to make them dive into marriage.

Marriage is a sensitive aspect of every human's life and you must be sure to be ready before you commit. Being in your 30s does not make you prepared for marriage. Marriage goes beyond age.

Asides even if you’re prepared, is your intended partner willing? No doubt it is not possible to fully understand someone but then you must take your time to study and noticed certain behaviours of your partner.

Always bear in mind that being married does not mean that a person will change or drop certain characteristics. If your partner does not change before marriage, the chances are that they may likely not change even after marriage.

3. Large Financial Commitments
You need think through and weigh your options often before you get into any substantial financial obligations. So, maybe you just got some considerable amount of money, on your list is buying a car or you saw a house for sale at fair price and you are thinking of acquiring a bank loan to purchase it.

For getting a good ride or home of your own is lovely. But do you think you can manage them based on your present financial level?

4. Making A Promise
Promises mean nothing without the accompanying action. No matter how small you may think of promises, it has the potential of causing a massive hurt to others, if not fulfilled.

To make a promise is to put your reputation on the line. Your integrity is a valuable asset that you should not trade with. One reason why people make promises and fail to keep, is that the promises were made hastily.

Hence an anonymous writer wrote, don't make a promise when you are happy. People don't respect you because you make Commitments, they do when you keep your Commitments. For this reason you should be careful when you give your words to others

5. Making Your Relationship Public
How do you feel about celebrity breakups? Well, many at times the primary causes of those breakups especially the fresh ones, is the media and publicity.

Too many eyes on a relationship is bad enough and worse when the relationship is a new one. Often, people get carried away by their sweetness of the early stage of their relationship that they hastily start expressing love in public, social media especially.

We know that good things take time but we get carried away by our desires that we end up rushing through things.

Thanks for reading through.

Please don't forget to share and leave also leave your comments below
