I am just always amazed at the level of stupidity in people. Just so you are aware of it; here are just some of the inventions made by African Americans:

http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/inventors/
http://www.tnj.com/black-history-makers/major-inventions-african-americans
http://www.howstuffworks.com/innovation/inventions/10-inventions-by-african-americans.htm#page=1
http://www.biography.com/news/african-american-inventors-20737249

After reading your statement I have decided that you are not a mathematician. There are about 45-50 African Americans in the USA. Half of that number would be 22.5 to about 25 million people. In the USA there are only 11 million people on welfare. Only 39% of that group are African American. How does 4 million people equal 22.5 million people? The largest receipts of welfare in the USA are White people. They receive welfare benefits, food stamps and housing in far greater numbers than African Americans.

http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics/

In closing; I hope that your job doesn't require you to do math; because if it does then your employer is in trouble.
Apparently, you do not understand the comment. Saying blacks were not "accredited" to any inventions doesn't necessarily mean they didn't invent anything. Its similar to Igbos not being accredited to any of their developmental contributions to Lagos just because Lagos belongs to the Yorubas. Go figure

You need to work on your understanding of the English language.

Besides, everything the black man achieved on European soil is as a result of the enabling environment created by whites. If you disagree, then explain to me exactly why Africans have not been able to replicate such great feats on African soil. Whites created welfare for whites and they do have every reason to take advantage of it as opposed to blacks who have been unable to create this same here in Africa. Even South Africa's current level of development cannot be attributed to SAcans

@ hahn, very well put. I couldn't agree more.

I belong to the earlier Mills and Boon's girls readers club. You read about the beautiful girl who met her tall, dark and handsome Prince Charming and after they had an argument, they would make up with the guy sending her roses and so on.

Reality set in when I felt I was right and expected my husband to at least apologize. For where!! I wait tire. I have had to unlearn and break free of so many preconceived (unrealistic) notions. As per my hubby he grew up with a family of boys and the way they grew up and rationalized things were different...

It's all good.
Tell me about it. My wife grew up among 8 boys, wrestling and all other boys stuff so you can imagine how hard it is having to become subjective to a man when she's used to beating them up. Lol

Couples also tend to expect their spouses to think like them instead of understanding and appreciating the differences each spouse comes naturally with

My dear brother I am happy for your marriage and you are correct. But things like this also happen to people who marry for all the right reasons.
I've had people tell me they married the love of their lives but still cheated on them. Marriage is hardwork. The way you study hard for an exam, or put a lot of effort into doing well in any endeavor is the way a lot of effort goes into making marriage work. But more and more these days we find that many are not prepared to do the work.
Na true talk o. Marriage IS hard work. Myself and my wife argue everyday but we always settle our differences immediately and move on. It takes a lot of understanding and patience.

Another I realised is that no matter how long you date, marriage tends to reveal your partner's weaknesses that you failed to realise during courtship. Also the transformation from dating to becoming life partners has a certain effect on one's psycology.

What I meant by "the wrong reasons" are simple things like expecting your spouse to be perfect, not being able handle the responsibility of being aswerable to your spouse. Funny enough, most of the things I detested when I was living with my mom are the same things my wife does. Like the freedom to go out and come back at anytime I feel like. Now, I can't stay out long because I know she's at home and worried and atimes it gets at you, especially when she complains and you start feeling like, "I'm a grown man".

But those are the things that actually make a marriage beautiful. And it takes a mature mind to understand it. In marriage new challenges come up everyday. One party should be able to exercise patience when the other partner isn't

The problem here rather obvious. Nigerians should write our own list with only Nigerian comedians and title it "best comedians in the world". Shikena

When whites write "best comedians in the world" they actually mean in THEIR world

Personally, I was part of the one year brigade until I started to witness the antics of our people.
1) They will lie in their rental application about their source of income or the lack thereof.
2) They will go out of their way to rent a property they know they cannot afford on an ongoing basis.
3) Aunty, Uncle, man and woman friends, dad, mum and all the extended family will contribute the first year rent and after this they will start to beg or fight you to remain in the property that they cannot afford.
4) Like children some also develop this sense of entitlement to free rent amongst other free things and the concept of paying your way is alien to them.
5) Unfortunately a lot also act irresponsibly about their obligation and try to play a fast one at every opportunity.

I still collect 1 year rent but fully support and understand why people will collect 2 or more. For people like me its an investment and I still have second mortgages taken out to cover their repayment such that I cant afford this kind of behaviour from our people. There is a reason why everywhere we go in the world people get apprehensive about letting to 9ja. Its an unfortunate situation that needs to be addressed.
You write up makes a lot of sense. There's no point among what you've written that can be disputed. Its really sad though. We are the architects or our own misfortune

What you fail to realise is that the countries tthat have monthly rent will also guarantee eviction for non payment of rent. In Canada you will get a court date in 21 days and once even 1 day late rent is established that gets automatic judgement for the landlord on top tenant go pay all court costs and interest.

Tenancies are also for minimum 1 year in Cansda and 6 months UK
I'm well aware of that actually but some landlords here collect 2years minimum and only few clients collect yearly rent.

I just feel it will make it easier for people to get access to accomodation if its monthly rent

Christianity Etc › My Pastor Asked My Father For The Keys To His New Car by hahn(op): 11:45am On May 05, 2015
When I was a kid, my dad bought a new car and drove us to church one Sunday. It was a prophetic service and our pastor was being used by God that day to deliver people from poverty.

Suddenly, our pastor looked at my dad and said, "Mr. Lasisi, God is set to bless you" my mum jumped up and shouted excitedly, "Amen!!!"

My dad was excited too.

The pastor then came closer, placed his hand on my dad's head and prayed for him. As our pastor turned to climb the altar, the spirit of God told him something.

He stopped, looked at my dad and said, "Mr. Lasisi did you buy a new car last week?"

"Yes sir" my dad responded with much surprise on his face.

Then our pastor said; God said I should tell you to sow your CAR KEY into my life"

I was shocked that my dad did not argue with the pastor, he just put his hand in his pocket, brought out the car key and gave it to our pastor.

Chai... Chinekeeeeeeee...

After about 5 minutes, my dad stood up, went outside the church, he didn't even wait till the end of the service. I could see him entering Okada going home.

"He must be very worried" I reasoned in utter fear and confusion.

After a while he returned to church with the SPARE KEY of his car and drove the car back to the house.

I was so stunned at what I was seeing.

So when I asked him why he acted that way he said:

"Onassis, use your brain, the pastor asked for the KEY and NOT the CAR."

Have a great week ahead.

It used to be like that in the 70's. One month rent one month security and pay monthly after that, until things changed for both Landlord and Tenants. Lots of stories from both sides.

Do you have any idea of the things that "changed"?

Your posts are usually on point. This one makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, Nigerians are more concerned with "keeping the tradition". I wonder when we'll ever get to realise that tradition and cultures need to upgraded to fit the reality of the current time. Nigerians have so much to learn.

*coughs* Now that you mention it, I need some cash for business plsssssss

babyosisi:
Why do we spend this much money on funerals
Why must people break the bank ,go a-begging and a-borrowing in order to bury a dead relative?
Why do Nigerians think this way ?
A relative dies leaving nothing to his name and the living have to go through hell just to put the person into the ground.

A relative I love so much called me asking for monetary help to bury her sister ( they are my dad's cousins)
I would have felt better if she was asking me money with which to pay her rent or feed herself since she is now retired
But money for a funeral?
For a sister that has children?
I will send it because I love my aunt, but it is such a waste IMHO
What exactly do they intend to do there?
If you didn't keep anything for your funeral, why should the living go through this much stress to bury you?

I appeal to the younger generation, this stupidity must stop
Don't carry on this ignorance of the generations before you
There is no common sense behind it

Please voice your opinion,I am getting sick and tired of all this hoopla over funerals.
People have even turned it into business ventures here in the USA
Doing fund raisers for family members they never gave a dime to when they were alive
