There are people who are Specifically called into Agriculture..

If you are not one of them.... Don't venture!

If you Do, Agriculture will Throw you out!
I agree with some of the assertions but I just have to say this ' Agriculture is for everyone' it is a chain where we have producers, wholesalers, processors and other chain actors including the consumers. I would prefer if you say ' production is not for everyone '

TravelCOVID-19: Saudi Plans To Repatriate Over 11,000 Nigerians by Hallams(op): 7:40am On May 14, 2020
Saudi Arabia has identified about 11,600 Nigerians reportedly stranded in the country, many due to the coronavirus disease, and is making plans to airlift them back home, an official has said.
The Nigerian embassy official, who is privy to the development but asked not to be named as he was not authorised to speak to journalists, said the Saudi’s decision was contained in a letter addressed to the embassy a few weeks ago.

The source added that the list, according to the Saudis, includes Nigerians who had visited the country for umrah – a lesser hajj – and were held up by the movement restrictions introduced by Saudi authorities as part of containment measures.

The kingdom, which recorded its index coronavirus case on March 2, had initially imposed a travel ban on some neighbouring countries before extending it to include European countries and 12 others, on March 12.
Minister confirms

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, confirmed the development. He said Nigeria’s logistics challenge has been responsible for the delay in the repatriation.
Speaking on Tuesday shortly after taking part in the daily media briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVId-19, Mr Onyeama told PREMIUM TIMES that some of the stranded Nigerians would have landed about a week ago, but that the country does not have enough facilities to accommodate them all for the 14-day quarantine period.
He said; “We are aware of this… In fact, they wanted to land last week, but they couldn’t because there was no arrangement to receive them.

“As you heard, we have a capacity we can absorb. The medical people have to monitor them for two weeks for quarantine. But there is only a certain number of port health authority staff who are able to monitor all these people as they come in.

“As the SGF said, we have to finish the ones we have, then allow some more to come in. We can’t allow everybody to come in because we don’t have the capacity to house them and also to monitor them medically.”

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the Nigerian embassy in Saudi Arabia was surprised by the huge number of Nigerians contained on the Saudi’s list of Nigerians to be repatriated, and has responded to the letter by seeking clarification on how the kingdom arrived at such.

Our source said in the letter, the Saudis noted that only 340 Nigerians have indicated their willingness to return home. The Saudi authorities, therefore, wrote to seek the embassy’s cooperation in the search “for the remaining 11,260.”

“The Saudi authorities officially stated that they will be taking charge of airlifting all Nigerians who came into the Kingdom for Umrah and or visit and got stranded here as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the official said.

He added that the embassy “has requested the Saudi authorities to furnish it with more detailed information on what they have to enable it know how to play its own role accordingly.”
Earlier, when contacted, the consular officer of the Nigerian mission in Saudi Arabia, Muhammed Aliyu, refused to speak on the issue.

In a message shared on WhatsApp with our reporter, Mr Aliyu said the embassy has no right to speak to the media on such matters.

He, however, directed this newspaper to Nigeria’s foreign affairs ministry, saying the approval to communicate with the media would have to be conveyed in writing to the embassy by the ministry.
“Mr. Alabi, professionally, Embassy has no right to speak to the media directly or indirectly, except with express approval from MFA (ministry of foreign affairs) Headquarters in Abuja. The approval will be communicated in writing to the Embassy, with clear instructions,” he said.
Mr Aliyu, however, confirmed that every official correspondence received by the embassy has been forwarded to the ministry.

EducationAfe Babalola: How FG Can Reopen Schools, Universities Within Four Weeks by Hallams(op): 6:08am On May 12, 2020
The founder, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola, has advised the Federal Government against waiting till all towns and villages in the country are free from COVID-19 before reopening schools.

Babalola, who said “only the Almighty God Himself can determine when the current coronavirus pandemic will be eradicated globally,” added that “the daily increase in the number of patients does not suggest that COVID-19 will soon come to an end”.

The ABUAD founder, who, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Monday, said schools nationwide were “hurriedly” closed down by government fiat on March 23 when some pupils and students were either writing examinations or embarking on final-year examinations, offered advice on how the Federal Government could reopen the schools and universities within four weeks in phases.

Babalola listed the conditions under which “private institutions should be allowed to resume academic activities within four weeks”.

These, he said, included that “the school must establish that it has residential accommodation for all students including most, if not all the staff.

“Parents shall give written undertakings supported with medical certificates that the student is fit/healthy to resume academic work.

“There shall be about three running water tanks at the gate where students will wash their hands with soap. There shall be portable sanitisers. Each student must be armed with the portable sanitiser. There shall be infrared thermometers at the gate where students, staff and anybody coming into the university shall be tested by a nurse or medical personnel.

“The university must have in place the following testing machines: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR Machine) and Serological Test Machine.

“Each school must have in place a building specially designed to accommodate any student who is suspected to have any type of infectious disease ranging from cough, chickenpox, measles, diarrhea etc other than COVID-19.”

He added that each university must have two functional fumigation machines and “ensure all hostels, classrooms, cafeteria, conference halls, and sports facilities shall be fumigated before resumption”.

Babalola also advised that the schools must have testing kits as “the students must undergo test fortnightly in addition to the provision for face masks which shall be used by students and staff in classrooms, conference halls and everywhere on the campus”.

He also advised staggered resumption, saying, the final-year students forced to go home while preparing for their final examination should resume first, take their examination and vacate the university within two to three weeks. Thereafter, the next level of students that will resume shall be new students who will undergo the same set of tests like those of final year students”.

According to the ABUAD founder, the prescriptions for private universities shall also apply to public universities with some variations.

He should remember that power is transient.
As much as I don't support the demolition of the hotel, I do not support the conversion of the hotel to an isolation. The hotel appears to be in a residential area and having an isolation centre there might put people at greater risk of contracting the virus especially now that we have funny stories such as ' 2 patients abscond isolation centre

We have the grandparents stock, parents stock and the commercial birds. The commercial birds do not procreate but the grandparents and parents stocks do. So the commercial birds are basically offspring of the parents stocks. The parents stocks usually mate and hence lay fertilised eggs. Some parent stock farms usually carry out artificial insemination on the parents stock also

AgricultureRe: How To Grow Tomatoes For Business? All You Need To Know! by Hallams(m): 6:38pm On Sep 23, 2019
Truth234:
Please this a pure lie, there is nowhere over 50 percent of farm produce rot. Its a lie made up by lazy research/data analyst or would you as a farmer leaves your over 50 percent of your farm produce to rot?

Dangote tomato processing plant just shut down again after six months of production for lack of raw materials.

Where are those saying 70 percent of farm produce rot before it reaches consumers, that Nigeria needs processing plants?

The factory was forced to reopen in March due to the high cost of maintenance, estimated at N30 million per month and resumed with 100 tonnes per day out of 1,200 production capacity. Six months later suppliers couldn't meet just 8.3% production level.

In this article, I said, "it is now obvious that the issue is not just the lack of tomato processing factory but also the lack of necessary raw materials."

"It is the shortage of fresh tomatoes that fuels the demand for imported tomato paste and also explains why the price of fresh tomatoes fluctuate with dollar liquidity."

Nigeria is a very poor country with exaggerated capacity or how does one explain 23.1% unemployment rate, 55.4% underemployment/unemployment of youths and 85 million extremely poor people?

I wrote an article on it last week, you can read it here https://investorsking.com/again-dangote-shut-down-tomato-processing-factory/
Good. Thanks for enlightening me but I honestly feel that not all tomatoes farmers know about Dangote tomato processing plant. Hence because dangote's can't get enough raw materials does not mean there are no raw materials

Fun fact

Nigeria is the Largest producer of Tomato in Africa and also the largest importer of Tomato paste in Africa .....
shows how poor we are doing in terms of processing and post harvest handling. How can about 50percent of our production be wasting every year. It is simple we are just producing so that our tomatoes can get wasted. Imagine if we could just process 80percent of the tomatoes wasting every year?
