Being an extra year student makes one feel bad, but the truth is which many people don't know is that it has numerous advantages it only depends on how you are able to discover and maximise them.

The truth is I had once been in your shoes before, infact yours in just "one extra" year, as for me mine was "double extra year".

It wasn't easy for me at Ist as I did some running around to see if the courses ( two) could be waived but it was not possible.

I didn't even let my parents know I had extra years, so I had to struggle to pay my school fees, during one of my street husstles in Lagos to pay school fees I got arrested and spent two days in police cell.

But the truth is never did I know that God was preparing me for something big and special and I overcame.

I overcame those trying periods which I expect you to do.
I made up my mind that, I mean change your mind set by making up your mind that you are still a student, you can tell yourself that your course is a six year course.

Withdraw yourself from associating with most people from your set and make friends with incoming final year students ( part 2) . This will help you a lot.

Get closer to God. My extra years made me know that God really wanted me to know him more, I began to read my bible everyday, pray hard and changed my wayward life style.

Now that you are an extra year student you will have lesser course work, it's a time to get involved in extra curricular things which you couldn't do before, develop your talent or skill this is a great opportunity.
As for me, I was involved in campus politics before my extra year, during my extra year I got involved in outside politics, I created student political movements for outside politicians.
To the glory of God, I'm waiting for my service call up today. Due to my extra year and developed my political skills and got connected with many political leaders and aspirants, to glory of God as fresh graduate waiting for call up I have used ny connections to provide jobs for and a building contract for three people in my set who graduated two years before me. Infact my problem now is where to choose to work after my service.

Today I work as media assistant to a former Governor and a Governorship Aspirant who owns an oil company and I get paid well for it, funny thing is I work from home and sometimes I travel to represent them at functions because one is based overseas another majorly Abuja.

As for the worry about your grades, that's nothing because it won't guarantee you a job, besides I don't know about your school, but as an extra year student using mine as an example you can register for some restricted elective courses which you consider easy to pass to boost your GP.

So don't be cast down look at the positive sides, your mates graduating before you does not mean they are better than you! It's just a matter of time, you never know what badluck God used it help you avoid.

Your case is not new neither would it be the last to have an extra Year!

Pray Hard! Get Closer to God! Develop your skill or talent with the plenty time you have and I assure you at the end of the day you will thank God for giving you an extra Year.

The level of hate I see and read every day in facebook, based on religious or ethnic differences, is so alarming that I am afraid the next Nigerian General Elections, will be fought on religious, ethnic and regional realignment base, and not on the basis of competence, integrity or achievements.

I am tempted to say, this country is jinxed, if care is not taken, the looming crisis will end up tearing this country into shreds.

The country's development, progress and indeed our fragile democracy, are also seriously threatened and all are pointers towards the final crumbling of the giant of Africa and the world's greatest and most populous country of the world's black race.

In every community there's a work to be done and in every nation, there are wounds to be healed.

In every heart there is the power to do it, if only we should live and let live.

A nation that buys its peace, is honestly indebted to war.

They are noise-makers and exhibitionists! The major reasons why they are always haunted in and out of Nigeria. And had it been their business is even always legal, maybe they can be left off the hook. But, interestingly, most of their businesses are fraught with frauds, fakes and illegality. And that's why most communities detests them a lot. Yes, others do such stuffs too! But, they hardly 'make a show' with such proceeds, hence, they are overlooked. Most Igbo men can't do without 'showing' stuffs which makes the host communities to torchlight into their matters. Discovering the guilt around them, they then begin to 'hate' and 'detest' them. Go to SA and Malaysia (yes, including Singapore) and see how they detest them and extend it to anything Nigeria.

I understand your point well, we shall surely get there, our democracy is maturing. Not all prominent Igbo Politicians are thieves. We have some that have excelled. Winning an election with an unknown candidate is not easy in a country like Nigeria let's just say the truth.

On a more serious note I think an Igboman becoming a Nigerian President, would make Nigeria better. Putting tribal sentiments aside. The Igbos are the only tribe that confidently associate and establish in all geo-political zones of the country.

For me I think we should just give them a try. If they can excel in business I see no reason they can't apply such in developing Nigeria as whole. This suffering is just too much abeg.

Kalu: I’ve not been paid any pension, entitlements


Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has distanced himself from the report on how 108 former governors are living off their states through pensions and other entitlements from the coffers of state governments.

Kalu stressed that since he left office in 2007, he has not received any entitlements or privileges of any sort from his successors.

Responding to questions from newsmen at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Kalu disclosed that as a non-serving government official, the Abia State government has withheld and refused to pay his pensions and entitlements, making him the only ex-governor in the 36 states that does not receive pension.

Kalu, who served as Abia State governor between 1999 and 2007, told journalists that the report in a national daily are heartbreaking considering that many ordinary pensioners were being owed by some of the people currently receiving the pensions.

He noted that as a governor, it was one of his most important obligations to see that all the pensioners in his state were being paid appropriately and timely, adding that he left the state with no pensioner being owed.

He also disclosed that while leaving the government house on May 29, 2007, he left behind all the government vehicles and other properties that belonged to the government.

Kalu explained with no regrets that none of the privileges that accrue to former governors have been extended to him, not even the security attachee or vehicles.

He expressed disenchantment over noncompliance of the laws of the land by some leaders, adding that this does not speak well of a leader. When asked if he is broke because of the nonpayment and his next line of action, he said: “It is not about being broke or not.

The pension laws of the state did not exclude me from being paid as expected. In fact, it is illegal according to the law to deny one his rights and privileges. “Since 2009, I have not received any pension nor entitlement from the state government, but I took it in good faith.

I have earlier written to my two successors in different periods notifying them of how they were flouting the laws by withholding my pensions, but it was ignored.

“If it is out of will to disregard the law, I shall instruct my lawyers to take a legal action against the governor for denying me my rights.

If the present governor cannot resolve it, I will seek redress in the court. It doesn’t matter what I will be doing with the money. I can channel it into humanitarian service and philanthropy, but the laws must be obeyed.”

I've been to both Igbo and Yoruba wedding receptions. One thing I know for sure is that in Yoruba weddings food is usually surplus amd they don't discriminate whether you are "mo gbo mo branch" one reason is that Yoruba foods are cheap to prepare unlike Igbo foods.

In Igbo weddings the meat is very small unlike yoruba weddings which you have bigger meats in Igbo weddings drinks most especially beer is very very surplus that I can boldly attest to .
So it's a matter of choice when next you attend a wedding party or any other party be sharp and calculate ahead when it's time to share food. Make friends with the servers, be ready to flip seats or better still keep two seats at a time one in front row and other in back row cos u can never tell where food will ist be served.
Normally at parties make the servers of drinks and food are usually different make friends with both of them, and promise both servers that you are gonna get them both if they serve you. I.E: collect drink from a server get ur food from another sever and give the drink to the food server and vice versa after such gesture u'll get anything u want from the servers.
Dress very well I recommend traditional infact more than the invited and never beg for food at parties use commanding tone to the servers if they attempt to misbehave threaten them.
I rem back then at school friends loved sitting with me at parties cos they know they will not only eat but eat double.
Never settle for "there is rice but no meat'' it's crazy.

Your problem is not new, to be sincere it's similar to what I'm experiencing with my mum in the same age bracket. She wants things done her own way and complains too much, well I see it as effects of old age ( though not all mums are like dat).
Well as for me. I try to mind my business and do what she asks me to do ( so far it has no effect on me) meaning so far it's not going to affect my decisions.
So do your own part as her daughter or son. Try and mind your business stop trying to please her. Just do what you know you are supposed to do. And also make plans to leave the house for her by marriage or relocating.
