One remembers when one Igbo internet science man was recognized by a US president, people of SW petitioned for years until they rubbished the man. Yet, SW would not form its own country and leave the Igbo alone. Because SW believes if Igbo leaves Nigeria, the south south which contains lots of crude oil may also go. |
Let someone tell Yale that it is a small SW section of Nigeria - incurable ethnic bigots - who talk of Yale withdrawing award that Yale made to Iwealla. |
HiGod:No body taught you that in Ironsi's unitary government system, 50% of wealth that was derived in any region was retained by the region; that in Ironsi's unitary government system, regions still maintained some degree of autonomy; that it was when the Fulani/Hausa saw crude oil in large quantities that they gradually started dividing Nigeria's regions into states, and ultimately proliferated 19 states +Abuja in the once one region north of Nigeria, but only created 17 states in the once three regions south of Nigeria. With political representation from these states, north thus holds overwhelming political representation in any gathering of Nigerians. Normally, at the end of states creation, the new states ought to be equal multiples of the number of region's that existed when states started to be created. In no other country of the world was new federating units like states created using land mass as criterion, as was done in Nigeria by northern Nigeria soldiers. Yakubu Gowon who started state creation lamented in Kaduna about three years ago that states creation was eventually hijacked to create a super political class in one section of Nigeria - north, no doubt. After creating the 36 states, northern soldiers supervised the ultimate 1999 constitution to legit the political structure which makes north take home most of the revenues shared in Abuja since then. To worsen matters, north has chased out non-northerners that once lived in the north who would have enjoyed the development infrastructures provided in the north with oil money. In no other country in the world does a situation exist where people from one part of the country cannot comfortably settle in another part of the country. One Nigeria still exists because of crude oil in the south of Nigeria. You ignore what problems keep you second class citizen in Nigeria, but vent your spleen on Igbophobia. |
gregg2:Baba Buhari went to 10 Drowning Street, London to talk about military ties between Nigeria and the UK, while Nigeria he was to inherit was being crippled by fuel scarcity. Baba must be having the mentality that brutal force is what is required to preside over Nigeria and keep it united. |
tayebest:Do you even know what you want in Nigeria? For decades, fuel scarcity frequently crippled Nigeria. Jonathan became president and stopped fuel scarcity all the six years he was in office. Jonathan planned to remove subsidies to fuel so that fuel shall become buy as you can. You said no. Election time, you voted out Jonathan. So what do you really want? |
BabaO2:You should be grateful if there is benevolent military rule now in Nigeria to reposition the country to true federalism. From the look of things, Buhari still has the mentality of use of force to coerce citizens to do what the leadership wants. Even before Buhari is sworn in as President, he had already gone to talk of military tie with the UK; and that's while fuel scarcity was murdering Nigeria. |
spako4:For Nigeria to have all the above goodies in quantum, fiscal federalism must be operational in the country. In the present unitary government system, no matter who is the president, corruption shall deny Nigeria all the goodies you mentioned above. The present unitary government system makes leaders to be far detached from the citizens; as the long distance between the leaders and the citizens make accountability by leaders to the citizens next to impossible. |
Its no point for APC to build all its programs on return from crude oil sales. Let APC tell Buhari that Nigeria needs fiscal federalism to survive and have development in all of Nigeria. APC has return to fiscal federalism in its manifesto, but shall the north with its uncountable number of self-created states and local government areas that benefit north from the present unitary government system accept reforms to fiscal federalism? |
CR77:Magic? .Nigerians are hurting themselves. Ethiopia is a miltiethnic country like Nigeria. But Ethiopia practices Fiscal Federalism. It is just announced that Ethiopia is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa. Before he died in 2012, former Ethiopian Prime Minister boasted that what kept Ethiopia United and fast developing was its Fiscal Federalism. But in Nigeria, because of crude oil in the Niger delta region, the north and SW regions clutch tightly to a now most monstrous form of unitary government system never practiced in any country in the world. The SW ask for Fiscal Federalism during the night but reject it during the day. Some sections take some sections of the country as conquered estates. That's why Fiscal Federalism is being seriallty denied in Nigeria. And the population degenerate to dependents on hand outs from government. |
doublewisdom:How did you make Nigeria's celebs ? You rather owe them because they tried to keep you happy in Nigeria; and in your Nigerian unhappiness you raise no noise over the forced lopsided political structure that every four years threw up the OBJs, GEJs and now the Buharis as leaders; in the midst of heavily educated, youthful, and healthier Nigerians who are very willing to lead Nigeria, but are usually filtered off by the lopsided political structure. |
Na Celebs Nigerians shall now vent their fuel scarcity anger upon? GEJ is now elusive as not even his office cares to issue periodic statements on the fuel scarcity situation. Methinks, GEJ and Team are humans. In whatever method, they killed fuel scarcity that for decades tried to kill Nigeria before Jonathan government came up. But majority of Nigerians refused to reciprocate Jonathan's good gesture. It has been mum from Jonathan government side since. |
Atiku, the man many times rejected for apex leadership of Nigeria owing to accusations of corruption, is now on decision-making category for Nigeria's leadership and political process. Buhari, the coupist long rejected for apex leadership of Nigeria because of various allegations, many unprintable, is going to be atop Nigeria. Is Nigeria going forward or backward,? Backward, for sure |
lygn19:The present 6 geo-political zones are not what Ekwueme envisaged and suggested. North's Abacha latter used state creation to make some geo-political zones more equal than others . Seven states in the NW zone. About three years ago, Gowon who started state creation lamented in a public lecture in Kaduna that state creation was ultimately hijacked to create a super-political class in Nigeria - unarguably in the far north. The same manner, unitary government system introduced by late Aguiyi Ironsi was gradually over-centralized as crude oil emerged as Nigeria's major bread winner, and ultimately left Nigeria with the present monstrous unitary government system. |
barcanista:A prayer: if peoples in the Lower Niger Congress Area want to liberate their areas and themselves from being sucked dry by rest of Nigeria, they need to vote for one country in the Lower Niger Congress Area in a referendum; that's one country with Resource Control/Fiscal Federalism as the guiding principle, and possibly, with a clause that any part can secede from the country if its people want. If the peoples of Lower Niger Congress Area vote for multiple countries in a referendum, it is most likely they are not getting even one. The rest of Nigeria must apply divide-and-rule, as usual, with bribery and pay-offs, to neutralize the leaders of the L. N.Congress Area. |
omoeso:How many cars in Alimoshon do you or your tribespeole own? Perhaps less than 1%. |
Mimee803:.And you do every trick in the books so that people you call crazy cannot leave Nigeria to form another country. Even as Nigeria created by Oyibo remains dysfunctional, you can't think for an alternative because of your diffidence. |
babyosisi:Only God knows why the former southeast region should still remain with Nigeria where rest of Nigeria share no value systems with the people of former south east region of Nigeria. |
xmich:Southeast produces crude oil from its soil enough to last its domestic needs and export. Southeast refined crude oil in war time. How can't south east refine their crude oil in peace time? |
Vivly:Abians would gladly be part of Biafra than being associated with that Nigerdelta thing under one Nigeria. All those southsouth, southeast, and Nigerdelta things were creations of Northern soldiers to divide people of the former southeast region so that no strong challenger can rise from former southeast of Nigeria as resources were being plucked from the former southeast region to sustain one Nigeria. |
skyps:Without crude oil, Naija wouldn't be up till now. Without crude oil, many sections of Nigeria would have gotten their areas independence from Nigeria long ago. |
But Oyibo joined the campaign that GEJ and government were useless. |
Firefire:Nigeria is the greatest fraud in Africa's experiment in nationhood. The northern area that has benefited from the fraud of Nigeria has continued because the south south and southeast refused to stick together to free themselves from the fraud. Worse, northern soldiers proliferated states in nearly every former small northerner district through which the north overpopulates the National Assembly. Thus no more important change can be made in the 1999 constitution unless north is mostly favoured in the amendment. |
noblezone:Prof. Tam David West was jailed during IBB regime because as Minister of Petroleum then, David West received a gift of wrist watch from a foreigner. David West fought hardest from his south south to have Jonathan return Aso Rock to Born to Rule. No Born to Rule leader or their appointee - OBJ - has ever been probed after office despite that allegations of lost billions of Naira or Dollars trailed all the administrations. They will probe or even jail Jonathan and his ministers. It is a way of telling the people of southsouth and southeast that they are second class citizens in Nigeria unworthy to lead Nigeria. If former leaders of the south south had known the importance of ganging together with the southeast right from the 1960s, no group in Nigeria could afford to take the two groups for a ride. |
Obijulius:True? Creek people of southsouth refuse to understand politics Nigeriana beginning from beginning. Jonathan was hobbnobbing with TYDanjuma and other northern leaders even till the last minute till they literally forced Jonathan to surrrender Nigeria to Born to Rule. Jonathan even appeared to believe then that those northern leaders shall return him for second term on a platter of gold. Now, Jonathan and crew fit escape their wrath?. |
mobaking:They told you that Baba Buhari was incorruptible and you ate it hook, line and sinker. Was Jonathan the best Nigeria could afford? No. Was Jonathan not imposed by OBJ who was imposed by born to rule? Is corruption a Nigerian? No. Is every Nigerian born to be corrupt? No. Has every administration in Nigeria been smeared with corrupt practices, including Buhari's? Yes. Restructure the polity for equitable representation to enable learned, committed and energetic leaders emerge. Or return fiscal federalism to Nigeria so as to drastically reduce official corruption. Otherwise, continue to speak long grammar about corruption and scarcity in Nigeria. |
bigass123:Go for the dismantling of the real thing that brings you endless misery in Nigeria. Go for restructuring of the polity in a democratic atmosphere to usher in equal representation in the polity so that well-trained and committed leadership can emerge for Nigeria. Or return fiscal federalism to Nigeria. It's no gain pointing fingers to every failed leadership which the present unworkable political structure in a unitary govt system throws up to you after any election - OBJ do-or-die election - Yara go slow - Jonathan clueless; who knows what we shall name incoming Baba Buhari? Suggestions please.... |
Your lot have captured power by proxy; what use are Obasanjo's words again? |
ichidodo:About 70% of present population of Nigeria is ill-informed. They grew up with information recycled and recounted to them by gold diggers. And they insult when one tries to inform them better. |
Lol, long after the presidential election campaign ended, they are still trying to sell Buhari candidacy to Nigerians. They are aware Buhari emergence of president is unusual - in a. country endowed with young, well educated, healthier people capable of leadership. Buhari they rejected thrice became president - how. Definitely not because of Jonathan's much touted failure. A lopsided political structure threw up a Buhari as President, the structure unless adjusted must continue to throw up Buhari-like presidents till.... |
Returning Nigeria to colonial masters - Buhari style. Buhari is afraid he can't withstand all the forces of "reform Nigeria politically in a democracy or we pull out of Nigeria." Let's see how British leaders shall lead both Britain and Nigeria for Buhari to sustain the unworkable political structure created by soldiers of Buhari clan to politically and financially favour politicians from Buhari northern clan. Can't remember any African country's president-elect officially visiting British Prime Minister - for what? |
deb:You must have believed that past leaders, except Buhari, did not know the importance of having functional refineries. And which Oyibo go agree to come to Nigeria to repair the refineries in the midst of Boko Haram attacks? Only fake Oyibo engineer. Even before Boko Haram attacks, few honest Oyibo engineers would want to come to Nigeria to do work, because they usually had more attractive offers elsewhere. I pray we get a miracle to get crude completely refined in Nigeria for domestic use. But thinking that mid-70s old Buhari will do the miracle does not fit. |
And when knowledgeable people suggest to restructure Nigeria politically in a democracy for equitable political representation to enable the emergence of quality leadership - or return to fiscal federalism - the north refuses fiscal federalism which may reduce its oil earnings, the SW and north refuse political restructuring because they believe it may give people of southsouth and southeast equal rights to the rest of Nigeria. So the sufferings from leadership failure continue in Nigeria. |
