Chief Coach of Nigeria’s U-23 national team, Samson Siasia says that he should not be blamed if Nigeria fails to qualify for the Rio Olympics next month because his team has been treated like “orphans”. According to him, the team has not been paid their allowances in the last 9 months and they have not been provided with training kits as well. “Nigerians should know that we are not well prepared (for the championship) and I should not be held responsible for whatever happens. We are orphans. We have not been paid our bonuses, while the Super Eagles were paid full bonuses even when they drew in Burkina Faso. We have been without allowances for the past nine months. How can you survive in this kind of situation, where you have not been paid for three months, no car, no training kits. We have to wash to wear our kits. It’s embarrassing. The NFF keep saying they don’t have money. Nobody from the football federation is concerned about our daily welfare in the camp. At times, we fuel vehicles to carry us to training. The players’ morale is down as most of them have not been receiving salaries from their clubs. How can one expect good output from these set of players? To me, Nigerians are liars. It has gotten to the situation that I won’t just sit down quietly and die, I’m tired of the system. I want Nigerians to know at this juncture that I won’t be responsible for any bad result that may come out of our campaign in the African U-23 Nations Cup. I should not be held responsible for whatever happens at the championship”he lamented http://www.newshelm.com/2015/10/dont-blame-me-if-nigeria-fails-to.html cc lalasticlala |
On Saturday, October 24, Emmanuel Chukwudi Nwankwo was laid to rest at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens after a celebration of life service. According to Atlanta Police, the 23-year-old security guard was shot and killed by his co-worker Dexter Harper (right), another security guard while at work on Thursday October 1, in Buckhead, Atlanta Georgia. Dexter admitted not just to the killing, but to seeing a demon and hearing the voice of God before he opened fire on Emmanuel. Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said 26-year-old Harper was charged with murder and taken to the Fulton County Jail. Homicide detectives said the two security guards were in the skyscraper alone when they apparently began arguing. Police said surveillance video didn't capture the deadly shooting but was helpful in showing them what happened. "We have two security guards who were working at this location. We are not sure what the motive was. We have been told there may have been some type of verbal argument that escalated into the gunfire," Atlanta Police Lt. Charles Hampton said. Powerful testimony in court came from the father of a murder victim minutes before a judge denied bond for the security guard accused of killing his son. "I believe that this court, on this land, in Atlanta, Georgia, with the state and this case will set a stand," said Emmanuel Nwankwo Sr as he fought to keep his son's accused killer in jail until trial. "How do you feel like you have son, an American son, the soul of your son, was murdered," Nwankwo Sr. said. "Well, the victim's family should be upset. I mean, anytime anybody passes it's a horrible thing. I'm just going to have to review the case, figure out the facts and see how I can defend him," defense attorney Manny Arora said. Police say during interviews, Harper admitted to the shooting because he saw a demon in the victim. "Another reason that he gave later on the interview, he said God told him to do it," said Detective Eugene Johnson with the Atlanta Police Department. "Based on the comments that were made by the client to the police at the scene, it would appear that there are going to be some mental health issues. I don't know what level they rise to, but we're going to start exploring that," Arora said. After prosecutors argued Harper was a danger to the community, himself and his family. The judge denied bond and bound the case over to court. The judge set another court date for Harper in November. Meantime, Harper's attorney says he'll work to get his clients psychological evaluation done as soon as possible. http://www.newshelm.com/2015/10/photos-23yr-old-nigerian-who-was-shot.html cc lalasticlala |
The recent tragic incident that saw a Bristow Sikosky S76 C+ helicopter crash into the lagoon in Oworonshoki, Lagos on Wednesday 12th August, 2015, have left quite a lot of people devastated and others, testifying. Two offshore oil rig Sedco workers, Chukwudi Onah and Ebiejuara Dolu, following their survival in the tragic incident, on Sunday, 25th October, appeared in the church of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua to testify that it was ‘God’s hand’ that saved them from the unfortunate incident. The duo, who both sustained injuries but have since recovered, were accompanied by more than seventeen family members who came to share their testimonies, thanking God for preserving their lives in the disaster that led to six death, including that of the pilot and co-pilot. Onah, testifying before the congregation of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations’, SCOAN, said it was ‘Morning Water’ he had received at the church that was instrumental to his survival. According to the survivor, “I never leave it anywhere I am going. It’s always with me, along with my Anointing Sticker,” he explained. “On that fateful day, before I left my room, I prayed that God would take charge, I thanked Him for mercies, and then I sprinkled the ‘Morning Water’ upon myself. “While on board, there were no signs of trouble as the flight was going “very smoothly”. However, merely minutes away from arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, tragedy struck. According to Onah, the chopper suddenly turned while still suspended on air. “Everybody became confused,” he said. “We were shouting Jesus! The chopper was dangling up and down. I didn’t even know when it fell inside the water. “As the helicopter began descending steadily to the bottom of the lagoon, I was strapped heavily into my seat-belt and could not move.” Recounting further his ordeal, he said, “I shouted, ‘God of TB Joshua, save me.” He added that his lungs were soon filled up with water. Onah also said what transpired next can only be termed ‘supernatural’. Staring death in the face, confused and struggling to free himself, he said he heard a ‘voice’ speaking clearly to him. “It’s just as you are hearing me now. The voice said, ‘Your seat-belt.’ I took my hand to the side of the seat belt and it became suddenly loose. The same voice came again and said, ‘Your life-jacket’. I took my hand to the side of the life-jacket and it suddenly inflated. It now carried me up from down to the top of the sea.” Onah solemnly narrated that the two passengers seated directly besides him were among those that died. Similarly, Dolu stated that he was a regular visitor to the SCOAN and had administered ‘Morning Water’ before entering the helicopter that day. Recounting his experience, he said, “All that I saw was the helicopter take a sharp turn and then we were just plummeting down. “Moments before the crash, all I could remember was that I saw myself swimming. There is no way I could have come out of the helicopter without removing my seat belt but I was not the one. http://www.newshelm.com/2015/10/bristow-helicopter-crash-survivors.html cc lalasticlala |

On Monday, October 26, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has directed MultiChoice not to air a particular homosexual programme titled “I am Jazz”, which has just been introduced by the cable network. In a statement released by the director of public affairs of the NBC, Mr. Awwalu Salihu stated that the programme is a mini-series about a transgender child and is capable of corrupting the youths as it is also at variance with Nigerian law which prohibits homosexuality. He said “the attentions of the NBC has been drawn to the concern raised by some members of the public about some alleged plans by the TLC Channel on DSTV to begin airing a programme, I am Jazz, which is about a transgender child. The commission has drawn the attention of the service provider to this concern and has received firm assurances that it will investigate and if it concerns that the programme is indeed promoting undesirable ideas that will offend the Nigerian public.” Due to the complaint of the programme, MultiChoice has immediately complied with the directive of the NBC not to air the controversial mini-series on DSTV. A representative of DSTV in Abuja disclosed that they are aware of the new development adding that their interests will always be considered. “We take comfort in knowing that our decoders are encrypted with the parental control feature that empowers parents with ultimate control over what their children view. We also encourage parents to make use of this feature as much as possible to ensure that their children only watch what their parents deem appropriate.” They said. However, parents have also disclosed their disgust on this development by making their voice heard via the social media platforms. http://www.newshelm.com/2015/10/homosexuality-movie-banned-on-nigerian.html |

He said this in a statement he released today congratulating the successful ministerial nominees .. I, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, hereby congratulate the 18 eminent Nigerians, who were yesterday, October 14th 2015, confirmed as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. While I recognise that the task before them is both herculean and complex, I am confident in their ability to succeed and set Nigeria on the path of greatness. With our fearless and visionary leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, at the fore of this team, ably supported by the erudite Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, I am more than assured that this new government will deliver on its promises and make our economy competitive and productive. I am particularly proud of the intelligence, poise and grace with which our own Former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), conducted himself throughout his time addressing us in the Red Chambers. His thoughts and plans were illuminating as always. He represented Lagos State very well on that podium and will do very well in the Federal Executive Council. Of that, I have no doubt. The revered National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should be proud of himself on a day like this. It was his farsightedness and uncanny judge of character and talent that brought the likes of our Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Former Ekiti Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and Mr. Fashola to limelight. These three are graduates of the Bola Tinubu School of Leadership and today, they are ministerial appointees. This is indeed a lifting moment for us all who have climbed on Asiwaju’s broad shoulders to our current heights in political and leadership accomplishments. May the Almighty bless our leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and increase him in wisdom and good health. As for the confirmed ministerial appointees, may you be filled with all the strength and patriotism required to deliver on your commissions. Please, make our party and nation proud! The National Association of Nigerian Students in Ogun State has criticised the national leadership of the student body for naming the senator representing Ogun-East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, the ‘Golden Man of the Year.’ Three weeks ago, the National President of NANS, Tijani Usman, was lampooned by the Coordinator, South-West (Zone D) of the association, Okikiola Ogunsola, for faulting the arraignment of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Bureau over allegations of false assets declaration. Similarly, Usman, while presenting the award to Kashamu last week in Ogun State, had said, “We decided to honour Senator Kashamu because we know that he is neither the richest businessman nor politician in Nigeria, yet we constantly hear of his philanthropic gestures to Nigerians of all shades and colours, especially the less-privileged. “We are fascinated by his large-heartedness even in the face of needless distractions. We reckon that if all wealthy Nigerians are like Senator Kashamu, the country will be a better place for us all. That is why we decided to encourage him by giving him this award.” But in a statement criticising the award on Tuesday, the Chairman of NANS in Ogun State, Dotun Opaleye, distanced the students in the state from the position of the national leadership. The statement partly read, “Our attention has been drawn to an ignominious NANS award presented to Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun-East Senatorial District by our National President, Usman. “This incidence is terribly disturbing to all sane minds and is capable of drawing the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari backwards when men of questionable character who are wanted by American authorities for drug crimes are celebrated by the apex student body. We sincerely ask: What is so golden about Kashamu? Is it because he destroyed the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West? “What has Kashamu done for Nigerian students domiciled in Ogun State to merit such award? Even in his immediate environment, he hasn’t been able to donate a single toilet to schools like Olabisi Onabanjo University or Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, not to mention other schools in his senatorial district like Tai Solarin University of Education.” http://www.edificationinfo.com/2015/10/nans-divided-over-award-to-kashamu.html cc lalasticlala |

As the Afropop icon gets on the good side of 40 several questions have been asked of him. Considered hugely successful, some people believe he may very well be looking at calling it quits with music and probably go into retirement to squarely face his many investments. But the star wouldn’t have any of it as he says in a new interview that he is not big enough yet to retire. 2face said: “I won’t say I am successful enough to retire yet. There is still a lot to achieve. We are still getting there we haven’t arrived yet. My plan is to refocus myself. If there is any area I have been slacking, the plan is to step up in that area. Many things are going to change about me, like the amount of shows that I do and all that. I won’t be able to be doing too much of jumping around, but energy still full body. http://www.newshelm.com/2015/09/2face-at-40-i-am-not-big-enough-yet-to.html CC LALASTICLALA |
