A security man, identified as Wasiu Okanlawon, has been stabbed to death by armed robbers in the Ile Zik, Ikeja area of Lagos.

It was gathered that Wasiu, who was attacked last Friday at about 9pm, was killed while he and a female colleague were returning home from work. It was gathered that Okanlawon and the colleague, whose name had yet to be ascertained, were going in a commercial bus, when the bus had a flat tyre.

The bus passengers were said to have alighted, while the driver tried to change the tyre. The robbers, whose number had yet to be identified, reportedly came out of hiding and attacked the stranded passengers.
A colleague of the deceased, said Okanlawon was stabbed to death when he intervened when the robbers tried to sexually harass his female colleague.

“He and the lady from our office were in the commercial bus going home. When they got to the Ile Zik Junction in Ikeja, the commercial bus had a flat tyre, and all the passengers alighted. They stood by the roadside, while the driver changed the tyre. Suddenly, the robbers came out and began to rob the passengers of their possession. “They came with weapons and attacked them. Wasiu, who was with his laptop, tried to escape from the area, but he noticed that they had descended on the lady, so he went back. It was then that the robbers collected his phones and the laptop, before stabbing him in the neck.”

It was gathered that Okanlawon was rushed to a nearby hospital after the robbers left, but he died on the way. Okanlawon was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, but their efforts did not yield any result,”.

It was also gathered that the matter was reported at the Ikeja Police Division, while Okanlawon’s corpse was deposited at the LASUTH’s morgue.

Although the deceased was a muslim, his burial was delayed so that an autopsy could be carried out. It was added that the female colleague had been invited by the police for questioning. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He added that investigation was ongoing.

In November 2014, the two young men pursued the victim, David Maxwell, down a street on Long Lane, Southwark, and stabbed him in the back, chest and shoulder in broad daylight. David later died in hospital. One stab wound had pierced his heart.

The boys were arrested days after the sad incident after CCTV footage showed David being followed by the two young men...and also showed them running away from the scene. Eyewitnesses also identified them. Even after being found guilty and jailed, the motive for the attack is still unclear.

CrimeIkorodu Bank Robbery:all Of Them Were Not Caught, They Were Led By A Lady-witnes by harbdulrasaq88(op): 9:07am On Jul 08, 2015
On the 5th of July,2015, 4 alleged members of the Ikorodu Bank robbers were paraded by the police .They confessed to helping the robbers cat away their loot but claimed contrary to reports, there was no lady in the group.
However, eyewitnesses insist a lady decorated with bullets and charms was part of the group that stormed Ebute Ipakodo, Ogolonto area of Ikorodu, where they attacked the branches of First Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, and carted away about N100 million. They were all said to be in their 20s.

Reporters had a chat with some witnesses who gave similar accounts..

GEORGE ODIGIE

“The incident of Wednesday, June 24, 2015, was terrible. That would be my first time of witnessing that kind of robbery. I have only heard of Shina Rambo, I never saw him and his gang in operation. Those guys that came to Ebute Ipakodo are well trained armed robbers. The way they handled the gun was fearful.
Even I don’t think the police can shoot the way they did that day. I believe they’re the same set that terrorized Ijede about three weeks ago. Their mission was to rob and not to kill anybody because if they were there to kill, I don’t think I will still be alive today. I also came to Zenith Bank to withdraw with my ATM card. Suddenly I heard a loud voice followed by a gun shot. When I looked up, I ran out of the place alongside others who were also scampering for safety. They commanded all of us out of the premises. Before we knew it, they had blown the outer part of First Bank, then Zenith Bank too with explosives. They gained entry into the two banks and came out after about one hour of uninterrupted operation. The money they stole was too much. Everybody was just watching helplessly. They reduced the police to a piece of cake that day. They were fully armed and most of them were not that tall. I guess they must be in their 20s. They’re likely to be cultists. No one could identify anyone of them.
“The operation lasted about two hours before they drove out of the place. We later heard another round of shooting few metres away, after which flame covered the whole atmosphere. Some of us still rushed there, we got to know that they had burnt the three jeeps they brought for the operation and escaped through the waterways.”

RAFIU OSALABI

“The Wednesday, June 24, 2015 robbery was shocking. We’re all scared. I thought the end had come. The robbers were many. No one knows exactly their number. I only know there was a lady among them. She wore a lot of things round her neck. I believe they’re charms. It’s like a dream. They were devilish in their conduct. The only thing was that they didn’t shoot anybody but if the policemen had come out that day, only God knows how many of the policemen would have been killed because the type of guns these guys paraded were first class. They started shooting soon as they stormed the road here. They came around 8.30 a.m and operated for about two hours non-stop. We ran into this house, watching them through the window. They were shooting and screaming. They even dared the police. They stood in front of the police station for more than an hour, no police came out.
“After they had blown the entrances of the two banks, they came out with huge cash loaded in Ghana Must Go bags, big ones. You can imagine how much they carted away. I am sure it can’t be less than N100 m. We only thank God that nobody died in the incident. The only person hit by a stray bullet was an okada rider who brought a lady to the bank. And he was rushed to the hospital alongside three others who were injured while running for safety. We were hearing their leader shouting, ‘Don’t kill anybody, we’re to rob not to kill but if they fail to co-operate, we will destroy them and their banks.’
“They left around 10.30 a.m and drove to the jetty where they set ablaze their three jeeps and escaped in a speed boat.”

CHRISTIANA SEGUN

“I am the owner of this shop. I always come out around 8 a.m every day except Sundays because of church. I came out that same time on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. And as usual, I was arranging my goods. Suddenly, I heard a sound, Gba o! I thought it was from the exhaust pipe of one of the vehicles passing, but in another couple of seconds, it became sporadic. It was then I knew the reality of what was really happening. I didn’t know when I abandoned the shop unlocked and ran away. Everybody ran for safety. I hid in an uncompleted building up there with many others. That’s where we were, watching how the robbers were terrorizing the whole place.
“It was like a make-believe thing. See young boys shooting like soldiers, few of them wore military camouflage, shouting on top of their voices. They operated from 8.40 a.m to 10.30 a.m, almost two hours uninterrupted. They were shouting as they were shooting, commanding the bank staffers to cooperate with them unless they would find themselves in the pool of their blood.
“They blew the entrances of the two banks with explosives. They robbed them simultaneously. About three of them stood in the front of the police station directly opposite the banks, challenging the police to come out if they’re ready to die, ‘Come out if you can face us. You will die like chicken. If you know you have signed your will, dare us, we will leave you dead before leaving this place. But if you love yourselves and your families, just remain indoor. We’re here for business, not to kill anybody but if you dare us, we will kill you like chicken.’

“A girl was among them, wearing charms round her neck and waist. She was so bold and confident of herself. She held a SMG, commanding the rest of the guys. Some of them wore black dresses. They threatened to destroy the two banks and their workers if they refuse to cooperate with them.

“That morning, a lot of customers were already inside the banks, many were also outside making use of their ATM cards. They all took to their heels when the robbers started their terror attack. Nobody could wait. After like 30 minutes, they had succeeded in robbing First Bank and I learnt about N20 m was carted away instantly. In the two banks, they used about five Ghana Must Go bags to load the money and put them inside their jeeps. I learnt they stole about N60 m from Zenith Bank while some said it’s more than that.

“We heard them screaming when they saw the money. Even about three of them were dancing, celebrating victory on the road right in front of the police station.
“The robbery was massive. I have never witnessed such a thing. All the motorists, Marwa and okada riders were turning back. Some, out of fear, parked and abandoned their vehicles. They came back in the afternoon to pick them. The guns the armed robbers operated with were more sophisticated. That’s why I don’t blame the police that hid because I don’t think they could stand their guns. Let’s call a spade a spade, our government should equip the police with more sophisticated weapons. Most of the robbers terrorizing banks are not ordinary people. And police too have their wives and children at home. We only thank God the incident didn’t claim any life. Only few people were injured and they were rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.”

PoliticsKenya Legalises Ploygamy by harbdulrasaq88(op): 9:13pm On Jul 06, 2015
President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has signed into law a controversial marriage bill to legalise polygamy.

The new law amends a civil law, where a man was only allowed one wife and brings it in line with customary law, where some cultures allow multiple partners.

Controversy had surrounded an amendment to the bill, supported by many male lawmakers, allowing men to take more wives without consulting existing spouses, the British Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Under the traditional law, first wives are supposed to give prior approval before a man takes another wife, the report says.

But last month, female lawmakers walked out of the country’s parliament in disgust after their male counterparts voted through the amendment.

They argued that a decision to take on another wife would affect the whole family, including the financial position of other spouses.

The controversial bill was also opposed by Christian leaders who urged Mr. Kenyatta, also a Christian not to sign it into law.

They argued that the amendment would undermine Christian principles of marriage and family.

“The tone of that bill, if it becomes law, would be demeaning to women since it does not respect the principle of equality of spouses in the institution of marriage,” the BBC quoted Archbishop Timothy Ndambuki, as saying.

Mr. Ndambuki belongs to the National Council of Churches of Kenya, NCCK.

The marriage legislation has been under discussion for several years and some initial proposals were scrapped at committee stages.

It has abolished the practice of unofficial traditional marriages which were never registered and could be ended without any legal divorce proceedings.

But plans to ban the payment of bride prices were dropped – although a person must be 18 to marry and this now applies to all cultures.

However, the lawmakers are said to have rejected the amendment which provided that a woman should only be entitled to 30 percent of matrimonial property after death or divorce.

Under the new law, equal property and inheritance rights are guaranteed against the previous law where a woman had to prove her contribution to the couple’s wealth.

The law stipulates that a wife is entitled to an equal share of whatever the couple acquired during their marriage but in the case of multiple partners, it is going to be difficult to determine what each spouse is entitled to if one of them divorces or their husband dies, argued BBC reporter Frenny Jowi.

There had also been a proposal to recognise co-habiting couples, known in Kenya as “come-we-stay” relationships, after six months, but this too was dropped.

It would have allowed a woman to seek maintenance for herself and any children of the union had the man left.

Christianity EtcPastor Turns Woman’s Hair Into ‘Delicious Food’ And Worshippers Eat It (Photos) by harbdulrasaq88(op): 9:37am On Jul 03, 2015
A pastor in South Africa who operates a church called End Time Disciples Ministries has performed another bizarre scene in which he purported ‘turned’ the hair of a woman into food which was consumed by church members.

The photos which were shared on Facebook in June, 2015 on the church’s page show a man placing his hand on a woman’s head and then other people are seen eating a patch of hair, supposedly, from the woman’s head.

The post says, “Man of God held the head of woman of God Thapelo from Mabopane and her hair turned into food for the sons and daughters of God to eat. Everything depends on what we say because we carry life in our tongue.”

Magicians in the church? It doesn’t get weirder than this. Just take a look for yourself.

SportsIfeanyi Ubah Gingers U-23 National Team With N2 Million by harbdulrasaq88(op): 9:06pm On Jul 02, 2015
The Managing Director/CEO of Capital Oil, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah has charged the U-23 National Team, Dream Team, to beat their Congolese counterparts in the first leg of their African U-23 Championship qualifying fixture and get a two million naira reward.

Addressing the players and their officials after a 3-2 victory over Amakson Academy in a friendly game in Abuja 3-2, the oil magnate said he is making the cash donation as his little contribution in ensuring that the team is well motivated by Nigerians to make the nation proud come Sunday, July 19 in Port Harcourt.

"You guys should know that you carry the aspiration and dreams of over 170 million Nigerians and as such you must put it at the back of your mind to go all out against the Congolese so that the return leg will be a mere formality. Nigerians will not take any excuse from you."

Assuring the team of more financial windfall if they scale the Congo hurdle, Chief Ubah, who watched the game, said the boys should realize that if they do well and qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games, their career will become brighter as they will not only get good contracts overseas, they will also graduate to play for the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Dream Team will on Saturday tackle 36 Lions F.C of Lagos in its last friendly game in Abuja before departing for Port Harcourt on Sunday. The encounter, which will come up at the mainbowl of the National Stadium, Abuja, will kick off at 4pm.

The Nigeria Football Federation and the League Management Company have come out to commend the impact of new measures and the NFF’s capacity building programmes in turning around the fortunes of the various domestic League competitions, viz Nigeria Professional Football League, Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women Football League and the Nigeria Nation-Wide League.

At a joint briefing of the NFF Organizing Committee, the League Management Company and the NFF Referees Committee in Abuja on Tuesday, NFF 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi expressed confidence that the Leagues can only get better, in the face of the commitment of the Amaju Pinnick –led NFF towards taking Nigeria football to new heights.

“These wonderful results, we have always expected because of the carefully-laid-down training programme for the referees and the referee assessors vis-à-vis capacity building for referees in the United Kingdom and the series of seminars organized here in Nigeria for the referees and referee assessors.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, reiterated the readiness of the present NFF team to run a transparent, accountable administration for the good of the Nigeria game, and charged the media to provide its invaluable support all the way, and also not to be shy to come forward with useful information that could help eradicate unhealthy practices.
