Sports / Re: How Come African Teams Dont Have Indigenous Coaches? by haronky7: 7:03pm On Jun 17, 2010
I am as distraught as yourself.

Sometimes ago when I asked this same question on NL, some 'wise guys' concluded that the worst of these Oyinbo coaches are better than the best of our indigenous coaches

Call it inferiority complex or colonial mentality, but I probably will think it's the former

It is a slap on our face that no African country, particularly the Black ones, are so sure of their own to go to WC year in year out but will continue to feel thy are incapable of developing a coach they could believe in. Very sad!
Sports / Nff Should Be Sacked by haronky7: 6:31pm On Jun 17, 2010
The lack-lustered show of shame of the Super Eagles today in South Africa should be the peak of embarassment sport-loving Nigerians both home and abroad should have to put up with

To call those bunch the best to represent Nigeria is laughable, but it is only fair to say that the broken-hearted sport lovers whose unshaken faith in Nigerian capabilities in this beautiful game remains despite the fact that the Eagles are a shadow of themselves, are entitled to better representation in the future

And for the sake of all good things, someone must accept responsibility for the disgrace and historical win for the Greek, whose first win ever in a WC was over the Super Chickens

Of what use is the change of coach to a foreign over-paid one? Of what use is the change of an indigenous coach who qualified us for the WC and replacing him at the last minute with an European one? It seems now almost concluded that a fair and white-skinned magic wasn't enough to secure our lot

I think the blame should lie squarly at the door of the NFF, the footballling Administrator whose appaling decisions, often politicised, has continued to give Nigerians a heartbreak. It is hypocritical for these incompetent administrators to be calling for the heads of coach with their own jobs intact.

Many are still hurting and hoping this is all a nightmare they will wake up from. Sports is the only thinf that makes us happy and bring us together

So, should the NFF be sacked and replaced with football-loving and unpoliticised people? Will this help restore us once again to being a toast of the world in the arena of the beautiful game?
Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Greece: [1 - 2] On June 17, 2010 @ World Cup by haronky7: 5:01pm On Jun 17, 2010
Have u seen a bunch of grown-ups running aimlessly around the pitch like a headless-chicken?

You're not wrong to conclude they are the Super Eagles Chicken

Thought some people said the worst of this Lagersback of a coach is better than Amodu despite his selection not any different?

Who is laughing now??

What a nauseating match

They must rank among the worst team of the tournament; good riddance to bad rubbish! What was the game plan? embarassed

Did say I wont shed a tear

Next question; what do we do with this coach as well?

Hey guys, as much as I condemn in the strongest term this outrageous cheap-shot, I must say that our image is in tatters already.

No amount of complaints will resolve this except our security services really cup-on and chase down these 'yahoo-yahoo boys'. But come to think of it - who will chase them down and put them out of business when our politicians are mega-thieves and often pocket the security operatives?

This doesn't mean that well-meaning, honest and decent Nigerians should't keep complaining however

It's amazing that as a pure-bred Nigerian who grew up in Lagos and vast in all the cunning antics of these low-lifers, and though currently outside of the shores, I often get their unsolicited e-mails in droves

Tell me how would you mend an already tattered image abroad with this ridiculous thing still going on?

Conclusion of the matter - COME TO TERMS WITH AND GET USED TO IT!
Politics / Re: Have U Ever Experienced Injustice Abroad? by haronky7: 12:03am On Jun 02, 2010
Injustice abroad is nothing compared to the one in Nigeria!

And I can live with that, because there are channels my voice could be heard

But to avoid injustice and maltreatment, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT VISA AND DON'T GET IN ILLEGALLY OR REMAIN ILLEGAL!

Politics / Re: Nigerian Police Uniforms Should Be Without Pockets? by haronky7: 11:52pm On Jun 01, 2010
Hmmmmm

Except they go unclothed (this would be ideal but unacceptable) or wear a restraining jacket like those used in assylum to restrain violent dudes (but then, they wont be able to do their policing work)

Otherwise, a modified pocket-less overall with zips at the back that can be locked/unlocked before leaving their stations

But believe me, these guys are ingenious!

They might start taking days off work for stomach upset because they might instead resort to swallowing the money - and to go collect it in the toilet after a 'busy day's work', if you know what I mean.
Politics / Re: I Want Abiola Immortalised, Says Babangida by haronky7: 11:35pm On Jun 01, 2010
Just doing a bit of research and found this;

Psychopathy  is a personality disorder characterized by an abnormal lack of empathy combined with strongly amoral conduct, masked by an ability to appear outwardly normal.  Psychopaths are described as "intraspecies predators”. Psychopaths use charisma, manipulation, intimidation, sexual intercourse and violence to control others and to satisfy their own needs. They are lacking in conscience and empathy, they take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without guilt or remorse

Does this sound familiar?

The worst part; NO REAL TREATMENT for this human plague  sad sad

Though not an Amodu apologist

But what is so difficult in this list that even clueless, lowly, lesser-paid and crucified Amodu cannot come up with? undecided undecided

I cannot help but chuckle at some people who still are fantasizing the Eagles can go far, winning ugly or not smiley smiley

Travel / Re: Passengers Weep As Aero Aircraft Struggle To Land For Hours by haronky7: 10:08pm On May 07, 2010
@Geezle
That is a damn cheap shot from you

Whether air travel is the safest and fastest way to travel isnt the point here but the point is that I'll be quite suspicious of the plane itself and would question the judgement of the pilot who was attempting 7 times to land a plane in a reportedly bad whether. It's easy to say cos u werent in it

You need the permission of the tower to land a plane of course, and planes could be diverted and landed as an emergency procedure at other airports, and of course with permission from control tower of the new airport

It's not cool to say the post is dumb when you havent given me a more wiser explanation, oga pilot; and to make mention of the Polish crash (which unfortunately killed the President and some top officials) is completely out of point cos I doubt if u knew the details of the crash which I could briefly summarise;

1. the plane itself was an aging Russian plane ( and I asked about the age of the plane in question) Poland has long discussed replacing planes that carry the country's leaders but they lacked the funds.

2. pilot error was blamed as thick fog allegedly was said to be a factor. While traffic controllers generally have the final word in whether it is safe for a plane to land, they can and do leave it to the pilots' discretion. That plane in question was allegedly advised to divert from Smolensk airfield (where the crash occured as this airfield is not equipped with an instrument landing system to guide planes to the ground) but the pilot made the judgement to land it anyhow with devastating consequences.

3. foul play was suspected; there has been longstanding issues of mistrust between the Russians/Polish, dating back to the 2nd world war. And to kill the President and top Govt officials in a crash occuring in Russian airspace was suspicious

Lastly, it is highly repugnant for people to come to this forum without any cogent and convincing statement and yet be calling others 'dumb'; I take offence to that angry Let's be a bit civilised
Foreign Affairs / Re: Pakistani -american To Charged For Nyc Bomb by haronky7: 9:11pm On May 07, 2010
And for those religious warriors killing in the name of any god

Go and learn from the Voodoo masters how they could send their gods to kill by 'remote control' in the comfort of their bedroom without ever having to go on rampage with swords and daggers. These are 'common idol worshippers' opposed and even in the past destroyed by the major religions i.e Christianity and Islam, and yet appears to be more potent killing machines without sending Almajiris

I still stand without fear of criticism on this point, if your god request you to kill in his name in this day of an age (either with quotes from the Bible, Quran, or any other religious books), and he claims to be all-powerful, then bid him to go do his dirty job like the Voodoo masters. And if that god is incapable of killing mere mortals himself, I very much will doubt his power.Q.E.D.

And who is still calling USA a Christian nation? If anybody out there is still under any illusion (apologies to Illusion2 for use of the word) of calling a nation like USA a Christian nation, then I bet you, Margaret Thatcher is the current Prime Minister of UK  cool cool

The facts we have is that this disgruntled would-be bomber, a Parkistani-American, with confirmed links to the world-acclaimed violent and blood-thirsty sect, changed his mind at the last minute he wasn't needing the 72 virgins in paradise by not going with the kaboom, did a runner but caught at the airport; and he is a Muslim. End of story!

So I guess we should stop these ramblings!

How old is the molue plane?

It's damn too ridiculous that a plane would be attempting to land 7 times blaming the weather. Mordern planes with functioning gadgets have landed safely in very challenging weathers, but the second-hand rejects disposed off from the West will face enourmous strain under mild-moderate weather. The worst of our weather is not anything close to severe

If weather is too bad for landing @ Lagos, even an amateurish pilot with few flying lessons will head for the nearest safest airport. Abi dem bury the pilot's placenta for the particular airport?

In this vein, I congratulate NLs Jarus cos it could have been worse; congrats man for the lucky escape!

And for the 'prominent Nigerians' on board who had a lucky escape, what a delusion of grandeur!

Sports / Re: Super Eagles 23 Man List To South Africa by haronky7: 4:39am On May 04, 2010
It's very interesting that some of you guys say this man has a short term contract and Amodu shouldnt be mentioned because he would have "failed more" because he gave us a heart attack with his unenterprising, lazy and 'ancient' but experienced legs

But the reality of things is that 'failure' is still failure - someone who failed 'a bit' and he who failed much in my opinion belong to the same class; if this is a draft or indeed a real list, we very much will need the services of not only experienced legs (like Kanu, or even Rufai as somebody said grin) but Angels on the field to get out of the group stage

To say the football house hasnt supported Lars very much by playing friendlies isnt new but a perrenial problem, and a short term contract (which fortunately for him is on a very plum and eye-watering salary that he probably cant get in his home country and no indigenous coach can even dream of getting) is no excuse not to get the result

We as a nation are quite passionate about football and often unrealistic and expecting a lot, but not doing enough to develop new and fresh legs that are good enough to play top-flight football around the world, and to patiently develop a cohesive team over time through continuity like the 94 team. We very much like 'fire brigade approach', which is a sign of absolute administrative laziness all the way down from the football house

Unlike in places like Brazil, our players dont have to compete for shirts, but only need to know the right people and just lazily stroll into the camp even though they havent been playing well (or playing at all for months) and often with tons of injury (not surprisingly even in whole leg POP)

Without mincing words or fear of criticism, I honestly want to watch good football in this world cup, wishing the best team to clinch the title, not necessarily expecting (all in the name of patriotism or passion for the Eagles) a crap team to 'wobble and fumble' to the final cool cool . Reality could be painful but it's better than fantasy in my opinion!

I do hope those crucifying Amodu are now happy and can now see the 'big difference' with this expartrate coach. Before you tongue-lash me, I'm no fan of Amodu but a realist who believe in continuity.

If this is the list, why was Amodu removed in the first place? He could do the same I guess

@Sky Blue
What is the legacy of all of our office holders?

As I am not making a case for him, and like you rightly said earlier, he is human; right? His case is not peculiar

When a dysfunctional system has no set standards of performance, but bedeviled by widespread corruption, there is usually no progressive expectation, but for you 'to chop ya own and leave'. That is the prevalent Nigerian culture

Iwu, I say again, is not INECs problem; he has only done like many before him. I do not suggest he shouldnt be probed and even convicted if found guilty, but my point is that, it would be disappointing if indeed he was corrupt, judging by his level of education and international prominence
Politics / Re: Breaking News: Jonathan Removes Maurice Iwu by haronky7: 1:30am On Apr 29, 2010
@Sky Blue
The likes of Babangida and Abacha existed because the seriously diseased Nigerian state bred them, as it is still breeding many like them

Did the removal of Abacha from the scene solve our problem? Naaah!

And as Iwu is removed, and replaced by one of these 'breeds' waiting for their 'turn', the problem will continue to perpetuate itself

I also think my friend, that it is unfair to suggest that this man pushed for no reform while there. I am no fan of Nigerian politician, but it may be that the people that surrounded him actively made this impossible. Maybe you'll understand better if you know someone who is a public servant, but I do not say this derogatorily
Politics / Re: Breaking News: Jonathan Removes Maurice Iwu by haronky7: 1:10am On Apr 29, 2010
@ Sky Blue

It seems you dont get my point, and my intention here is not to win or lose this argument

Iwu is human, and the system surrounding him is corrupt, and it takes a brave man to challenge the odd system that is called Nigeria

For those rejoicing that Iwu is gone, I want to say emphatically here that he actually is not INEC's problem; the whole thing like Nigeria itself needs complete overhaul

But I can say, though humbly without boasting, that if I were in his shoes,it's either I wont accept the offer of the job if I wont be given room to make changes, or simply quit when it's obvious the changes could not be made, rather than tarnish my international reputation as a well-deserved academician in his own right

If he is found to be corrupt, then he has brought himself down in my own opinion, and in the same category as the guy hiding around in the swamp from EFCC. Being learned should at least differentiate you from these agberos

It's a fact that intelligence and education confers on you greater mental capacity toreason and learn, the same reason no company will employ a stark illiterate to be a Managing Director, though the dumb owner could be the Chairman or CEO
