Just checking up Professor Iwu's biography, and got the following: Maurice Mmaduakolam Iwu was born on 21 April 1950 in Umuezeala, Umukabia, Ehime Mbano in Imo State. He attended St. Pius X College, Bodo-Ogoni for his secondary education. He studied at the University of Bradford, England, receiving a Master of Pharmacy degree in 1976 and a Ph.D in 1978. He was WHO Visiting Scholar to Dyson Perrins Laboratory, University of Oxford (1980), Fulbright Senior Scholar, Ohio State University and won the U.S National Research International Prize for Ethonobiolology in 1999. He was a Professor of Pharmacognosy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1984–1993).[1] Entering business, Iwu became Vice-President, Research and Development of Tom's of Maine, a personal care manufacturing company, and member of the Board of Directors, Axxon Biopharm inc. He served on the Board of InterCEDD, Fund for integrated Rural Development and Traditional Medicine, and Center for Economic and Social Justice. He was the United Nation's Lead Consultant for the development of Nigeria's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. Iwu has published more than 100 research articles and is the author of four books.[1] Professor Iwu was President of the International Society of ethnobiology (1996–2002), member and ex-President of the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy, Member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and Member of the International Society for Medicinal Plant Research. He was the Executive Director, Bioresources Development and Conservation Program and a Senior Research Associate at the Division of Experimental Therapeutics of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Washington D.C. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Iwu If a man of his intelligence and academic achievement could be so given an international recognition such that the West were asking for his removal (I didnt mention he was corrupt here though), and some of you were asking for the EFCC to pick him up, then where lies the hope of Nigeria? So this corruption cankerworm goes beyond being educated abroad, goes beyond intelligence, race, religion, tribe, social status and everything you can think of, and is unfortunately endemic in Nigeria We are desperately in need of a cure! |
But wait a minute! Where are the conspiracy theorists NL? I'm seriously bothered by their silence Is there not something fishy here? How come the camera-man was right at the spot, on a bus, where a fight was going to break out, and those guys continued the fight right in front of camera as if in Ajegunle? This must have been stagemanaged by the MI6 or CIA to discredit ![]() God save us from the sort of people we export! |
The whole system is a big joke ![]() How in the name of God did a man of his calibre manage to sneek into the Senate in the first place? This was a man who first single-handedly attacked the constitution of Nigeria by introducing sharia in a state that feeds on the Federal cake Frankly speaking, i'm not surprised at this pervert, neither will I be surprised if at all he saw anything wrong in what he has done. I'm sure he would be wondering in the comfort of his house what the fuss is all about Senator my foot! |
And what about those hateful statements he made in Arabic language? That too must be film trick, huh? We'll always have them with us, the conspiracy theorists! |
Hmmmmmmm! Talk about skipping kindagarten classes straight to the University Here is one classic example |
@Frosbel I get your points and admire your good intention 'Home' means different things to different people, but the baseline is that simply Home can be anywhere in the world, where you feel secured, reassured, regarded and comfortable, not neccessarily your birthplace I know guys moving back to Naija to hussle for the plum contracts in Abuja and their states Where are those who moved during OBJ's time? Of course you should know, many agreed then because of better salary with little or no tax, what you could only dream of in the West. Nigeria is a land of opportunity, no doubt, if you've got the contacts, but it has a long way to go in building enabling environment and infrastructures that will seriously support NIDs. The NIDs who cant afford to wade through the rotteness in the system won't agree with you For a fact you'll agree many Nigerians can give anything to get out of that country to husstle on a (nearly) level playing field in the West, and if you're not convinced, try leaving your passport at the Airport! Many nations develop through input from their people in diaspora, chiefly from the amount of investment and money that flows back to their country of origin, like China and India, not because all directly return. For those of us who like it where we are currently located, any permanent plan to move back to Naija might be after retirement or a sane political environment This does not take away the patriotism, please no offence to your laudable opinion |
@Frosbe I cannot agree more with you When our people have no human rights whatsoever and are dying of poverty and hunger, I just cant believe someone bringing this notion I have seen on an European channel someone campaigning for the Rights of Chicken! They could afford to say so because they have more than enough to eat, but go say that to a married man with 6 children, living in one room with his family, earning like N10k a month, who can only afford to eat chicken once a year @Xmas after saving for same over a year! I dont think we should just be copying everything Western, all in the belief that they are always right. |
Right! And I will be eager to know what causes tsunami, hurricanes, tornado, volcano, to name a few |
You guys make me sick ![]() Pls cut the crap! Next topic pls! |
@suxes2005 What's the source of your story? I'm afraid it's called a rumour when there is no credible source, and I very much stand to be corrected if anyone has found the source. Nigeria is a rife country for rumour peddling We need to be careful before jumping into conclusion based on mere emotion and not facts What has become of the proverb, look before you leap? Though I know Kosovo likes IBB, but he does not seem to have many admirers in NL. But no matter how much the man is despised, it is an all time low by all moral standard to wish him dead Rather, lets pray to whatever and whoever we believe in to bring good fortunes to Nigeria, and give us a good leader who has the people at heart Nigeria (and Nigerians) deserves a better fortune! |
I bet he wouldnt need to appeal to them if it were the budget that needs to go through! What are they scared of? |
This is in my opinion a confirmation that the fitness of IBB to run for predisency is questionable If he opposed and quashed everything that democracy and federalism stands for and sentenced millions of Nigeria into miserable lives of abject poverty, how is it that he has suddenly become a lecturer in democracy and true federalism? Believe me, if our votes really count, he's sure gonna lose emphatically Was he sleep-walking all those 8 yrs? |
But wait a minute! How could he afford to 'pay' $100,000 as a public servant, or does he have a minting press in his house? The stink is unbearable ![]() |
Never a dull moment on NL, walahi! |
Blaming the bride's parents isnt the issue There are desperate parents out there among us who even love-vendor their children in order to 'survive' The problem I personally see here is the apparent lack of judgement on the part of our respected and well-beloved Senator |
@ Aro Akigbo You've been watching too many movies o! Anyway, your mental picture not bad. The money just disappeared as if it was a pin, I'm convinced it was this new minute naira notes, much smaller than a pin Has someone told them to check under the table? Nigeria we hail thee! |
Newsflash guys! Stop calling this man a thief if you can't prove it - that was his confident assertion and open challenge to everyone on NL who had written and allegedly accused him, ', and you know what to do' My village elders will say that if a man who is greater and more influential than you abuses you, you have to turn to God, the Avenger of the powerless. This cannot be more timely So guys, here we go again ![]() |
This is a potential case of libel if this story is untrue But if it's really true, then it is a matter of deep concern By Nigerian and International standard and law, as at the last time I checked, age 13yr is still a child This 'Nigerian Senator' would be treated as a Paedophile in Western countries and even placed on Sex Offender Register sharp-sharp It is disgraceful that this is the calibre of people we Go save Nigeria! |
@Zubeyr Coming to this forum and calling people a bunch of ignorants and yet putting forward a less than convincing statement, only displaying religious bigotry, is very unimpressive. This is a forum for intellectual debate, not for some intolerant sharp-tongued religious fanatic ![]() And pls always get your facts right before posting any response |
Religion has always been a sensitive issue in this country, and I dont want to be dragged into its wrangglings As at the last time I checked, Nigeria is a secular state; right? So, my question is will the new proposed board be paid from the State's purse, i.e from Federal allocation to the state? If yes, then how is it right to use the money of a secular Nigerian state to fund religious setup? No offence to our Muslim brothers and sisters. How will it look like if a state declres itself to be Orisa, Bhuddist, etc, and channelling the centrally generated funds to support its regious order. It's llikely going to create a dissenting voice among faithfuls of other religion The only right approach is if Nigeria practises true Federalism, and all the states strive to generate its own funds without going cap in hand to Abuja for their allocation which comes regardless of their input to the nation. If the aforementioned is fulfilled, then no one will raise an eyebrow, even if the whole North declares Sharia law (or the whole West for instance declares Orisa etc), which they are funding independently of the secular Nigerian state In a secular state, this will continue to be hunting ghost |
Having had a feel of NL responses, particularly those of you who are eagle-eyed with sense of smell sharper than that of shark that can smell blood from miles away, I think the concensus here is that : 1. He didn't disgrace us like those before him 2. Even though not excellent by many people's standard, at least he was good and demonstrated some level of intelligence, a commodity commonly and seriously lacking in many of those who have led us thus far ( to no where in particular!) Give the man some credit, or better still, find time and listen to the interview, then you would definitely have some respect for him Though, not a fan of Jonathan or any of our political leaders thus far (except of course they can now prove themselves), but what I can cautiously conclude is that you guys should watch out for this man. A man of his antecedent history, who strangely has enjoyed an unprecedented steep and fast rise to power (almost supersonically) might be destined for greater destiny in the affairs of this nation, even very much beyond our expectation You mark my word. Just sit down and enjoy the show because you first heard it here |
And what are we supposed to do? Shed a tear? ![]() |
Why is this country so lawless? People just go on rampage killing others, and getting away with it without being arrested or brought to book. And I dont think Jonathan needed to be around to tell the Police or Men of the Armed Forces to respond to a civil unrest, and maintain order in their jurisdiction. Of course, this kind of lawless behaviour would only be reinforced if these people are not apprehended. God help us! |
So long as we generally will welcome such a development, Nigerian politics on the contrary had in the past come up with the incredible. I for one would love to see the end of this saga and power tussle before I comment. So, 'no comment, just siddon dey look' |
It is grieviously beyond sadness that one could conclude that this heinous crime could only be perpetrated by demons in human bodies, who came into this world without being born Robbing a woman in labour! This is disgusting and beyond human comprehension. I feel like throwing up! Very sickening ![]() |
Money answereth all things! |
I am trying hard to understand why IBB is the 'best choice' for Nigeria. Abeg people, make una help me o! No be IBB, the husband of late Mariam, who ruled us for 8 yrs, and wey dey live for the Minna mansion? Abi another IBB dey na? |
@ ReahRich I tire o my bro! Abeg, make this people have mercy on us na Nothing for this world wey no dey finish one day Make this people no sipphon Naija die na! ![]() |
Watching English Premiership football is different from addiction to TV, computer games and other non-essentials Failure in exams is multfactoral in origin, and I do not say that parents don't have a role We are too quick to postulate in Naija for sure, but the major problem might lay @ the doors of the teachers for example. I remember those days when people postulated we change the name of Green Eagles to Super Eagles following repeated bashings because according to them,' no eagle is green'. But it seems our lot havent changed much either. Up Eagles, oh I mean, Up Man U! ![]() |
The original plan was for the runway to be laid with gold, but now, na plane steel una go get. QED ![]() |
