Car Talk / Re: Finally, My Car Got Fixed With Just A Reset; Car Owners Learn From My Experience by harrison24: 8:42pm On May 03
Cation25:
Here is my earlier tread regarding the fault my Camry 012 developed, https://www.nairaland.com/7691025/camry-012-jerk-when-changing

Some car gurus, like xperiencelove, Jimts, etc. gave me their professional suggestions on the possible cause of the issue and solution.

So, I took my car out for diagnosis and repair. The first "gear specialist" told me the gear has developed faults and needed to be replaced. He totalled everything, including his workmanship to be 450k.

I left there unconvinced, went to the second person, and he diagnosed the car and told me the gear sensor is faulty and some other things. He told me he will rectify the issue at the sum of 150k.

I was still unconvinced, so I went to another rewirer, he diagnose the car and told me the machine was pointing out the gear sensor, and that I should take the car to my mechanic to replace the sensor(he failed to mention which particular gear sensor). So I took the car to my mechanic, and after allowing the car to cool, he cleaned all the sensors, still the issue persist.

So, I called another gear specialist at Ladipo. He told me it is the valve body, and I need to change it. So we booked an appointment. Prior to that, I met someone in the church who referred a gear specialist/rewirer to me at Ladipo. So, I booked an appointment with that guy too. And, following my spirit leads, I asked the other specialist who suggested the valve body has developed faults to wait until the following day. I did that to meet with the other guy first to hear his own suggestions or findings.

When I finally meet this new guy(one young guy), he drove the car around and told me he will fix it but it will cost me 60k. So, we bargained and finally settled at 30k. He initially told me he will need to allow the car to cool for a minimum of 6 hours b4 he will open the gearbox, and that the car will be ready the next day. So I said okay. Later, he told me to enter the car and let's drive it again. We drove it a few distances then he parked and fixed his machine in the car. He carried out a TRANSMISSION ADAPTATION RESET and that solve the whole issue. This same thing was suggested to me by Jimts AutoJando here, but since I don't have the device to do it, I had to allow those guys to have their way.

I wanted to still bargain the initially agreed price(30k) but he declined that we already had an agreement. I was like something you did that did not take you 5 mins, he said "na my work." lol.

Guys, this issue affected my car fuel consumption seriously. Besides, the car doesn't move smoothly or speed as it use to. But since the rewirer guy reset the transmission adaption, the car is back to normal.

I took out time to narrate my experiences so other car owners can learn from them. Those mechanics and rewire guys are ready to milk you dry if you don't shine your eyes. Again, don't totally trust your mechanic, irrespective of your relationship with them. Try to verify things from 2 or 3 others before agreeing to most of their suggestions.

Thank you, xperiencelove, Jimts AutoJando, etc., for your suggestions and advice.

Mod please move this to the front page to reach a wider audience. Thanks.

Boss, can you pls send me the guy’s number. Thanks

Some riders don't understand the way rating works. And if you try to put them through, most of them will prove they know better. Imagine someone praising me as a good driver and still dropped 3 stars grin

Those people that praise you and still give you 3 stars are from the decedent of those lectures that will never let you pass their course no matter how you give the right answers to the questions they set during exam grin

It's literally 3-15k and had been a law since at least 2011 as long as you move people and get paid for it. And it's the responsibility of the OWNER of the car.

Remember that argument about owner vs employee? Well these are the kinds of things you have to deal with if you are not an employee. You cannot have it both ways. If you want Uber to protect you, you need to be employed by them. That's why they put on their contracts that you are independent. To shield them from responsibilities like this. That being said, is not the end of the world. The sky is not falling.

Just do 5 minutes research.

P.S. Y'ALL ARE BROTHERS! STOP INSULTING EACH OTHER AT THE DROP OFF A DIME OVER UNFOUNDED TALES!! I like y'all but chill please.

Bro good day. Pls can you give me your contact, will like to ask some questions privately. Thanks

I agree.

If he has a GTBank salary account, it’s a 1.33% monthly which is a bit fair. Cooperative society is still the best where they offer 5% total interest rate and even dividends. I’d been there. Took a loan for my first car which I later sold and made a loss. Asides, loans are so easy to take but when you start paying back, you’d feel it.

I for one don’t like being stressed; I always end up liquidating such.

As much as he wants to look at the bright side of things, he should think through your advice too. Best to see your car and be happy than seeing someone mishandle it (Gazzuzz gave me this advice).

All the best bosses!

Driving to Accra, suicide or doable? Thinking of road trip with the family.

Good Morning Aunty Radu. The road trip is doable, done it with a close friend, more than 4 return trips, we took turn driving. The roads are very good once you cross over from Nigeria border.

The map is kinda correct, but you don’t have to go through Port Novo, except you are using the Idiroko border. The road to Accra from Lagos is pretty straight forward.

Before you move, there are some documents you must have since you are taking your car. Your individual travel documents. You need your international drivers license, Ecowas vehicle license/certificate. Can’t remember , Ecowas brown card, which serves as your international vehicle insurance. Then at the border, since it’s your first time, you pay some money I think about 30 something thousand, don’t know if it has been increased. After you clear from the Nigeria part, you will get a Lessie passie, from the Benin republic side of the border. Which will enable you to drive freely in their country. Forgotten how much it is, but since it’s the first time you are traveling with you car the fee will be a bit high, after that, to renew is just about 7k. When you get to the border btw Benin and Togo(Hila Conji), you have to stamp out of Benin and also get Lessie Passie for Togo. On the Togo and Ghana border( Aflao), you stamp your Lessie passie, for leaving Togo. On the Ghana side of the border, you will to get an undertaken, which also enables you to drive within Ghana. Everything is fully automated, there is also instructions on how you can go about it yourself.

After all of that it’s smooth sailing, there are several police check points, one immigration check point and 1 custom check point, where you have drive into their compound to be checked. When on the Benin republic and Togo side, when approaching the a check point, pay attention, when you hear the sound of a whistle, pls find a way to park ASAP and be checked, plus have some of their currency to pay for toll fees. On the Ghana side where you see signs for speed limit, pls adhere to it, so you don’t violate traffic law, plus also have some cedis to pay for toll.

If you need more details, i will be happy to provide.
