That said, Jesus Christ did not restrict His followers , as individuals, against celebrating whatever and whenever they please. So long as it is not celebration done or declared to be in His name, He gave no commands against such.

As for the death of Christ, Jesus himself said this in Luke 22:19 - And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Remembering his death is valid based on this event.
