It is very easy to say these things. You need to understand that circumstances differ. Not everyone has the luxury of leaving a child behind. As a widow with an aged mum, who do you leave your child for? Sometimes the only feasible option is to take your child along, pray, hustle and hope you find your footing. That or you don't make the move at all. Throwaway12345: Glad you are settling in. When we tell people to not bring in their kids, they would think you are lieing to them. The biggest hurdle to your initial success is how you land and how easy it is for you to move around and get things done.
You need a house close to school or place of work? Bringing in kids would scuttle this.
You need to do part time work while studying? Your kids would scuttle this.
You would spend *4 of what a regular person should spend with them if you insist on bringing them in. Ordinary 10mins drive destination that you should use a $3 bus you would have to take Uber amd pay $20. Carry trolley and car seat if they are toddlers or below 9. Imagine carrying trolley around in a new country when trying to find your foot and settle in?
Most times it isn't even about money, it is about the inconvenience. With all your money, you might not get daycare placement until 6months down the line. Even if you get it might be tens of kilometers away. And remember you can't buy a car without a license so you have to depend on Public transportation pending when you sort licensing. So how do you drop the kids and pick them up from daycare everyday? $20 uber to go drop before you find your way to school another $20 to take them back home.
How do you attend classes or go to work with a child? You lock them indoors? I don't even need to talk about Landlords and seeing you as the only parent who is on a student visa with a child. It is crazy to think anyone would do such. Why would you have a kid with you while studying without a partner to take of the kid? That's a red flag to them already because their understanding is you can't earn money to pay rent and they can't evict you easily. So you would toil to even get a landlord to agree to renting to you and might get ridiculous terms like paying 12months rent upfront or even more .
So please Nigerians should listen especially the female folks. Listen to people when they tell you the realities of here. Stop daydreaming and believing you wield some stupid powers or your God is different and has a Miracle in store somewhere to navigate you through bringing kids especially toddlers when coming over. You won't die if you leave them behind no matter how tough it is. Get over it and do the right thing for the kid. If you are trying to provide a better future for the kid, you need to be able to do that from a point of strength.
Of what use is the saner clime when you can't even work, get into debt paying $1000 per month day care fees , can't feed the kid properly, can't concentrate in class because of stress and pressure, have to pay more for everything because you choose to not follow basic logical reasoning? Studying is hard enough, ask even singke people here how they want to use assignments and coursework to kill them . Let alone when you now have to tend to kids.
Sorry for the strong words. But it annoys the hell out that people keep doing this even with all the advice given and posts shared. Stay back in Nigeria if you know your spouse isn't following you to come help with the child responsibiliies or you drop the kid and come alone. Don't even dare try thinking about coming alone with kids. |

This is very true and key. I am a widow as such no spouse to share the load with. I came with my child as an international student. It is hard !!! You have to be prepared mentally. Getting daycare is a huge challenge and your whole movement is tied to getting your child settled. I am currently dealing with that and it is not funny. I am ready to work but I cannot work till I get a daycare for my child. online jobs are not forthcoming, money is going down. It is well ! If you are lucky to still have your spouse, please come with your spouse. Come mentally prepared too because here, there is no help. your spouse is the best help you can get. OldwomanWoman: Words of advise to women who are coming without their spouses..if you coming with kids..get ready!!! I notice nobody talks about the reality on ground…It will hit hard, you will question why you embarked on the journey..
Don’t let any agent deceive you to leave your spouse behind..I know they say it increases one’s chance ..who go get visa to get visa or better still..come alone first and do all the ground work then your kids can join you later..
People are not giving feedback on their first few months as international student with kids and no spouse.
If you insist, pls come into the country earlier..like two months before resumption..common mistakes women without their spouse make..
Come with plenty money too..plenty plenty money..if you know anyone in Canada (family) connect with them to see if they can accommodate pending when your sort accommodation..
Accommodation is one hell of a task for women with kids..you will go through hell and back before you find one .. even if you can prove that you can afford they won’t still give..
Last last some of us paid 6 months upfront!
Not to put fears but prepare yourself..prepare hard!
Don’t make the mistake of coming alone without spouse..spouse can accompany, then he returns once you are settled..
The worst time to travel as a mom with kids and no spouse is winter!!!!!!
No fears..just prepare yourself! Relocation is huge! Prepare!!!!!! |

Hi Simti, I suggest you visit VFS office personally to follow-up. When I submitted, mine was ready for collection by the next day. Also was that of your child approved because that is the issue I am having currently. Mine was approved while my child's own is still pending. Oh and mine was approved without medicals but I did upfront afterwards to avoid issues when in Canada. Best of luck ! Simti: Good evening all, Please any suggestion would be appreciated as I really need it.
This is the summary of my application. I applied for a student visa on the 16th of March, 2022. I did an upfront medicals on the 2nd of February 2022 before I applied. I also submitted a dependant visitor visa for my two years old alongside my application.
Fast forward to 12th of September, 2022, I got a medical request which I immediately booked for. 13th of September, being the next day, I got PPR so I thought probably my upfront medicals have been seen so I did not go for the scheduled medicals.
I just submitted my passport to the VFS Lagos office on the 15th of september because I just assumed everything has been settled with the medicals hence the passport request. I got an email that my passport was with IRCC on the 20th of September, 2022. Comrades!! As at today, I have not gotten back my passport from IRCC and I have sent series of webform to this effect. My portal has not changed since I submitted and medicals not yet updated.
What do you think is the issue guys? Could it be the medicals causing the delay? I have sent webforms and emails with the upfront medicals i did. I dont understand anymore. |

Bobomaigida: Hdior, congratulations, firstly inform the school of your approval, they will either allow you start this term of ask you to do a deferral to another term. Secondly the passport request for your child will come but you might need to send webform and email to remind them.
Please try and share your timeline and documents submitted. Thank you, will do so. Timeline: Got admission late last year. Please for those using the new IRCC portal. I noticed my digital passport was not requested for as such no where to upload it. Please is that the case as I noticed while applying for my child's visitor's visa, there was provision for digital passport.
Thanks. |

Crystal10395: There are no forms, you just answer the questions accurately and submit all required documents.
You would need to apply for "visitors visa separately"
While starting, you were asked if you're making a group Application, the answer should've been yes. Thank you for the response. Appreciate. |

Hello house, please I am confused. I am trying to submit my study permit via the new portal. I noticed it did not give option to download and submit IMM forms. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for this, I actually forgot to factor that in. I will adjust accordingly. Ashirioluwa: Uk government requires visitors to quarantine for 10 days. So are you telling us that you are traveling to UK just to stay in hotel for 7 days without visiting anywhere in UK.
Even if you opt for test to release. Remember you cannot take your Test to Release test until you have been in England for 5 full days. |

Do I need to book for hotel accommodation and flight ticket before application? Is 1.2m reasonable enough as budgeted expenses for the trip(flight, hotel, feeding, transportation etc) and please what supporting documents do I need, I am currently employed.
Thank you. |
