spiceeamiee Pele dear. ![]() I can feel your pain. After all your plans to slay with the hair. Pele. ![]() It might not actually be the stylist’s fault but the quality of the weave itself. Another thing is that she might have curled the hair using overly hot straighteners/curling rod. I once had a weave “destroyed” in similar fashion at a very popular salon at ikeja. The only remedy I can think of is to damp the weave with water and then apply a lot of hair conditioner on the weave. you leave it soaked in the hair conditioner for at least 24 hours. I recommend Garnier ultimate blends “the sleek restorer” conditioner with coconut oil and cocoa butter. After 24 hours, rinse with warm water and leave to dry naturally. I use this method for my weaves and it works well. I always use John Freida serum for all my weaves. If you can get one, it will help in ensuring the weave is soft with lustre without looking overly shiny. |
All those American runs girls and “video vixens” will be delighted with this news ![]() Expect them to start trooping to nigeria to “host” pool parties and the likes. ![]() |
Jaygrl:Pele dear. Glad to hear your son is much better. I enjoyed reading your write up. You make a very good story writer. It’s very typical of men to think that we are overreacting over certain issues. ![]() Ever since I had to go to the hospital with a sick child around 2am, I have learnt never to allow any symptoms fester for long before going to the hospital. My threshold for “wait and see” is maximum 24 hours (and that’s for a child older than 12months). Younger than 12months, we are off to the hospital that same day. I have realised that the longer you wait, you only end up with a child whose symptoms go from bad to worse, you have sleepless nights, you are stressed, you can’t go to work, you can’t do anything. So the earlier the child is seen by a doctor the better for both the parents and the child. Self medication is very bad. These days, there are just too many drugs out there that it’s impossible to just “guess” which one will work except one is an experienced medical professional (doctor). As for the laboratory technologists no words. some of them “learn” the role as apprentices without any formal tertiary education. |
SULPHUROXIDE:Your matron is literally a nurse. She’s not a doctor. It’s not in her place to decide what medication you need for malaria. Malaria as we all know if left untreated is dangerous - both for pregnant and non-pregnant women. Please go and see your doctor. He will recommend the necessary malaria tests and weigh all options before deciding on the right medication to give you based on the age of your pregnancy. It’s actually safer for a pregnant woman to take medication for malaria than to leave it untreated. Leaving it untreated puts the lives of the mother and baby at risk. |
ammy5565 Happy birthday to your son. Lovely pictures. |
Realtalk19. You are both legally married It appears from all you’ve said that there’s a lot of resentment and anger from all the parties involved in your relationship. Resentment and anger from yourself because your husband isn’t pulling his weight financially in addition to the previous domestic violence issue. Resentment and anger from your husband because of his current financial status and the hurtful things you might have said to him. Resentment and anger from your family because he hasn’t completed the traditional marriage rights and they also have to keep supporting your family financially. Resentment and anger from both families over the fact that both of you chose not to marry from within your tribe. I came across this perfect definition of resentment: “Resentment, or the strong and painful bitterness you feel when someone does something wrong to you, doesn't have actual physical weight, but it feels very heavy and can last a long time. Forgiveness is one way to get rid of resentment.” https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/resentment You need to find it in your heart to forgive your husband and rid your heart of all bitterness. It is something that you have to consciously work on and specifically pray over. Ask God to rid your heart of all bitterness and anger towards your husband and restore love and peace. All the anger and bitterness might actually be the reason why your prayers for financial breakthrough, etc remain unanswered. What’s the point of going to church, fasting, praying, etc when you harbour such bitterness towards each other? I believe a part of him must really love you hence the reason he made all efforts to reconcile with you. He could have easily remarried or chosen to remain single. How has your behaviour been to him since you reconciled? Do you nag him, keep malice, ignore him, bring up old arguments, etc? Some women are destined to be richer than their spouse. However, it’s how we react in that position of financial superiority that makes all the difference. Just because you are financially well off than him today doesn’t mean he won’t be richer than you few years from now. In the same light, God can also open doors for you to the extent that you will have more than enough to take care of your family including your husband without batting an eye. Have you made any efforts in helping him with getting a well paid job? There’s no harm in helping him prepare his CV to a good standard, applying for jobs on his behalf and forwarding job adverts to him. Sometimes people need a little helping hand/push/support. You can actively play that role in your husband’s life without belittling him. Personally, I feel communication is key in every relationship. You both need to sit down and talk about the present stage of your marriage , discuss your finances, open up to each other on areas you’ve offended each other, trash out any lingering issue and apologise to each other. You need to let go of anything that has been done and said in the past and not keep opening old and bitter wounds. He is probably going to CAC because he feels he needs their firebrand type of prayers in his life and he wants you to partake in the prayers with him. See it as one of the sacrifices of marriage. Days you are extremely tired, just explain to him calmly and if he’s upset, hold your peace and let him go alone. Do you ask him to help out with housework? Men tend to believe that we are superwomen and we know how to multitask. Don’t just assume that he should know you need help. Ask him politely and thank him afterwards. I believe something must have triggered the insults he dishes out to your family. Whatever it is, apologise on their behalf. It seems you’ve really badmouthed him to your family and he has lost all respect with them. Stop reporting him to your family (except he hits you). Stop lamenting to them about your husband’s inadequacies. Think of ways to augument your income rather than running to your family all the time for financial support. Is there any married elderly person (non family member) whom you both respect that you can open up to and can sit both of you down and act as a mentor/counsellor whilst you navigate this tough phase in your marriage? I feel all options should be explored before talking about separation. Finally, I hope you have no plans for more children . . . At least until your financial situation improves and there’s peace and harmony in your home. |
realtalk19:Before I address the issues you’ve raised, can you please provide clarity on the bolded? When you say he hasn’t married you rightly, is it that he hasn’t paid your bride price and concluded all customary rights ( or he has done some)? Are you married legally? That, is registry (court) wedding? Did you exchange wedding vows in a church ? Or is it the case that you two started living together after you got pregnant for him and you are yet to formalise your relationship legally or in the church ? |
Ammy5565:hmmm. musical chairs will work well indoors. same with face painting. you can also come up with current affairs questions or simple maths questions (quiz) and have the kids answer within a given timeframe. you can also play character games. eg. pretend to a kangaroo and jump around like one and have them guess what animal you are. for all the games/competitions, you will have to hand out a prize (no matter how small) to each winner. |
realtalk19:I have many questions to ask before I can give my opinion. @ bolded. . . why should it be your mum and family to decide that you should walk out of your marriage and move on? are they the decision makers in your life/marriage? what has triggered the constant insults on your mum? what led to your husband keeping malice with your mum? does your mum and family interfere with your marriage? does she come to your home often? I feel this family interference is the crux of the issue in your marriage. once there is undue third party interference either from the husband's or wife's family, that marriage can't be a happy one. your husband probably feels you update your mum and family on every single thing that happens in your home and your mum is the one 'teaching' you what to do, hence the reason he has so much resentment against her. that said, are you still facing domestic husband from your husband? do you know how much he earns monthly? does he take financial responsibility for some household bills (e.g. feeding) or he does absolutely nothing at all? do you attend the same church? |
Ammy5565:its best to get the jabs after the birthday party. last thing you want is a cranky baby added to the stress of planning a party. Activities: *you can get a bouncy castle (not sure if they come cheap in PH but there is no harm asking/shopping around/negotiating). bouncy castle is usually well loved by kids at parties and it keeps them very occupied. *face painting for kids (and maybe agbaya adults ) is another favourite for kids. again, i do not know how much this will cost but shop around, check instagram and negotiate as well*you also have to keep the parents entertained, so it is a good idea to get a DJ (or buy DJ mixtape CDs) to play music non-stop. *musical chairs competition for both kids and adults is also very exciting. *sack race competition for both kids and adults is another good idea. *splitting the kids into two teams and have each child take penalty kicks (an adult that act as the goalkeeper). the team that scores the most goals wins. this activity can also be done by the adults. party packs: plastic whistle, pencil, eraser, small notebook, assorted lollies, small plastic rulers, key holder, colourful hair bands/ribbons, fashion hand bands, plastic combs, sharpener, crayons, small colouring book. .. . |
ahnie:Can’t check my PMs . . . Email login issues. How old is your son and what meals does he currently enjoy eating ? |
Chanbaby:How old is your son? Did he previously swallow food without any issues or is this something he started recently? What’s the texture of food you are feeding him? Puréed? Mashed? Lumpy ? He might be experiencing pain or discomfort whilst swallowing hence the reason why he’s holding food in his mouth. It’s best to take him to a doctor to have him checked. It might be a case of tonsillitis, sore throat or a cold (mouth) sore. |
Everwhiz:She’s not yet 3 years old. She’s 2 years + I know some kids that age and even older that are still wearing diapers. She’s still a little child that’s learning. Every child develops/learns at a different pace depending on the love/support/environment they find themselves in. Please no spanking or shouting. Both won’t work and it might actually be counter productive and instill fear in her. You need to be patient with her. If you apply the right technique, she will be toilet trained in less than a month. Have you asked her parents if she exhibited the same toilet habits whilst staying with them ? The problem is that she might still be adjusting to a new home/routine/environment (yours) , so you need to give her some time to adapt both physically and psychologically to her new environment and the people around her. That said, hold her hand, explain to her calmly that it’s time for a wee and take her to the toilet(or put her on a potty as she might be scared of falling if she sits on the WC) every 2 hours. Regarding the poo issue, are you sure it’s not a case of very loose stools as a result of what she’s been fed? If her stools are loose, then maybe you should watch what she eats. If that’s not the case, then you need to help her build her confidence so that can freely walk up to you and let you know when she wants to have a poo. A reward system works great. You could get a cheap colouring book with crayon and tell her that everytime she poos in the toilet/potty, she gets to colour a full page. Offering treats such as sweets or biscuits as reward for good toilet habit also helps with toilet training. There might be the occasional slip up but don’t make a big fuss out of it. This is only a phase that will pass before you know it. You’ve done really well by accommodating her in your home. God bless you. |
77FOT:You’ve done really well so far. Remember to stay focused. That said, investment/savings nko? What have you done with the extra cash (no matter how small ) that you’ve managed to save this month ? Do not leave idle cash in your bank account as it’s easy to fall into the temptation of spending it. Get your spare funds locked up in an investment product pending when you decide what you want to do with the bulk funds. I mentioned the MM Fund. Have you thought about it ? |
xeexee1:Just as other ladies have said, stop the particular formula you are giving her and see if the rash disappears. If the rash persists and there’s any changes to her health (eg. High temperature, loss of appetite), then take her to see the doctor. I don’t really know much about milk allergies so I can’t really suggest another formula for you to try. I do know some babies are lactose intolerant though and there are a wide range of formula/brands that cater to babies with specific allergies. You might want to speak to your doctor about it (which is the ideal thing to do when you discover allergic reactions in a child that age) and see what they recommend. |
maradelkitchen:Glad to hear that neurofen worked for you. I think you should take your daughter back to the hospital. This is the 5th day (counting from Wednesday) since she started the medication and by now, there should be improvement in her health. The high temperature on Friday, loss of appetite, outbreak of rashes, little urination (which is a sign that she’s possibly dehydrated) and frequent crying are worrying symptoms that should be looked into by a doctor. She might need another type of antibiotics or have further checks carried out. I remember once my son had very little rash which didn’t look really worrying but I took him to the hospital all the same only for him to be placed on two types of antibiotics for 3 days. I was told the rash was the onset of scarlet fever. So please take her back to the hospital today and tell the doctor all the symptoms you’ve noticed since Wednesday. |
xeexee1:is the rash on a specific part of her body or all over? does it make her uncomfortable? that is, is she unusually cranky or crying frequently than usual? the rash might be pure coincidence with the introduction of the milk or it might be she is reacting to the milk. that said, why not post a picture of the rash? this will help in offering a solution as a mum here might have experienced something similar. |
tombeck:at 12 months, she would have received the following vaccines if she had remained in the UK: 1.Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, (given as a single jab) 2.Pneumococcal (PCV) vaccine ( third dose) 3.MenB vaccine (third dose) 4.Hib/MenC vaccine, given as a single jab containing vaccines against meningitis C (first dose) and Hib (fourth dose) So look for a private hospital preferably one that can administer the above vaccines. in fact the best thing to do is see a doctor (not a nurse or midwife o) at a private hospital with a copy of your UK red book so that he can determine which vaccines are outstanding and then give you an adapted vaccination schedule that can work for your baby. what I have realised is that not all vaccines in Nigeria are administered as combination doses, some vaccines are omitted totally and are not even part of the standard schedule while others are administered when the child is older than 12 months. so a doctor would be the best person to speak to concerning this issue. I won't suggest you miss skip any vaccination until you speak to a doctor. personally, I would rather repeat certain vaccines (such as measles) than omit it totally. measles in children can be life threatening. |
tombeck:what age did your child return to nigeria? with the UK vaccination schedule, the most important vaccines are given within the first 12 months of the child's life and do note that they also give combination vaccines. so one shot could cover a wide range of diseases. by the time my son clocked 12months, he was done with the last vaccine and the next vaccine he received (flu vaccine) was when he clocked 2 years. i think you should ask mums here to post their nigerian vaccination card and then compare it to your UK red book so that way you do not end up repeating the same vaccines for your child. the only vaccine that I know is not offered to kids in the UK (except the child falls into the sick/vulnerable category) is chicken pox vaccine, so you might want to get that from your health center. |
fruitfulhome:No, baby tribotan doesn't bleach (except they've started selling the fake). it is one of the mildest topical skin products for babies that I have ever come across. It is so mild that it takes a fairly long time to see any improvement in the skin irritation but it does work. have you introduced solids to your babies diet since he is 6months plus? have you introduced formula? his persistent crying might actually be hunger. breast milk might not be filling him up hence why he keeps waking up so you might want to introduce formula to his meals - maybe a bottle just before bed time or maybe when he wakes up at night. another option is to feed him baby cereal just before bedtime and give him a bottle of formula when he wakes up in the middle of the night. regarding his hair, its choice your really if you want to cut it off. my son's hair was soooo full that I gave him his first haircut (did it myself with a pair of scissors when he was around 5months old). I felt it made him uncomfortable and I was also tired of shampooing, conditioning and applying detangling hairspray literally every morning. |
queensnow:when it comes to buying skin products, where you buy them from actually determines whether you get yourself a fake or the real thing. you can buy aveeno from any reputable supermarket in Nigeria or buy online from a US or UK store and have it delivered by one of the numerous companies that offer cross border delivery services. I think some ladies here use the delivery company MFA or so. it might actually work out cheaper than buying from a store in Nigeria but most importantly you are guaranteed you are not buying a fake product. |
queensnow:Carrot oil/carotene is popularly used in skin bleaching/lightening products. It is not a product that should be used on a baby’s skin. All might look good initially but once you stop, you are going to end up with a child/adult with dark skin patches all over/uneven skin tone. If you are concerned about your baby getting dark, then apply age appropriate sunscreen with spf 30 and above before you expose him to the sun. Nivea, aveeno all have popular sunscreen products for babies as young as 6months. Shea butter is also known to darken the skin in some individuals. Coconut oil is a very good alternative. |
LadyPrecy:No. It does not contain any major antiseptic properties. It might prevent rashes but not cure it. |
lightedpath:sorry @ age mixup. teething isn't responsible. its best she is seen by a doctor. it might be malaria or a viral or bacterial infection. . . . . |
Orente21:sis, no idea. I have never given it to my baby. I can only speak on aptamil and cow&gate range of cereal. |
lightedpath:take her to the hospital asap. teething at 24months (almost 25months) is not responsible for stooling, vomiting and loss of appetite. |
edithodg:Apply Vaseline (petroleum jelly). . . lots of it at regular intervals. you can also give her paracetamol. if it becomes very swollen or red or develops blisters, you will have to take her to the hospital ASAP. at this age, wounds get easily infected. |
olubankemi:I got the mention from ebony13. I think it depends on the school and if they want to mirror how things are done abroad (EU, US,etc). Kids do not wear uniform till they get to primary 1 (which is usually at age 4 - 5 depending on the country and what month of the year the child was born). If the school is of good standard, wearing uniform or not will be the least of my worries. I am more concerned on what activities they engage the child with. Regarding what class they should be in, it really depends on their age, what skills they've acquired and the school's placement policy. For example, if kids in the 24months class engage in activities such as painting, it pointless putting a 20months old child that cannot hold a pencil or a paint brush properly in the same class. |
Reliablejay This is not an issue to hide from your family. I will suggest you call your dad and tell him everything ASAP. He's older and he will be able to advise you on how to handle your husband. I won't be surprised if your husband has already confinded in a member of his own family. Who knows how long she has been in a relationship with your husband ? The lady obviously has a plan. Her lies are aimed at sowing seeds of discord between you and your husband. You do not know what promises, gifts, plans, etc including assurances she has received from your husband. With such lies, she is going to blame you for every headache or cough she experiences all through the pregnancy and also for anything that happens to her child if she goes ahead with the pregnancy. God is with you. E-hugs. |
Debclem:If the cough is as bad as you’ve explained, you have to take your baby to the hospital. The doctor might prescribe mild antibiotics to prevent the cough getting worse and clogging up her lungs. In addition to this, get mild metholatum (there are brands available for babies) and apply it on hee chest, back, sides and feet about three times daily. Try and treat your toddler’s cough so as to prevent him passing it on to his sibling. |
oluplus:Interesting. Nigeria’s ways of doing things sha. Why ask depositors to pay into a PENSION FUND account (money meant for old age o) when you then allow them to withdraw as often as they like? What happened to advising the depositor to use a standard savings bank account for that purpose? This your pension fund administrator get as e be. They are not helping you to be financially disciplined. Yet we wonder why a lot of pensioners live in penury ? I also pay voluntary topup contributions to my pension fund but the terms are very clear. It’s money for retirement and I can’t touch it till then. |
oluplus:@ bolded. Isn’t that a pension fund account ? Funds paid into such accounts are not redeemable until the depositor reaches a certain age (around the age of retirement). You should read the terms and conditions. If your pension fund administrator allows you to liquidate before you reach the agreed age, it usually comes with a very stiff penalty. Sometimes as high as 25-30% of your total investment minus taxes and other admin fees Pension Fund Accounts (PFAs) are solely meant for planning towards future retirement and should not be compared to other short term investment products. |
