perfectcrown:request to see their food menu list for each day/week and ask what time of the day each meal is served. also ask if there is an onsite chef and if meals are prepared fresh from scratch at the nursery everyday- (this is very very important as I once visited a nursery whilst I was searching for one for my child and they told me the meals are prepared 2 weeks in advance and kept frozen. . WTF !! ). also ask for a brief visit/tour of their kitchen. if the menu is varied and covers all the key food groups and they are all prepared fresh from scratch everyday onsite by cooks/chefs in a clean/decent kitchen, then maybe you should consider this option - if you can afford the extra cost. my child attends a nursery where all meals are provided covering breakfast, lunch and supper. there is also a bowl of different fruits just by the exit door and the kids are allowed to pick on their way out whatever fruit they want to munch on. this means that rather than having a child snack on unhealthy food like cake, biscuit or caprisoone, etc on the ride home, the child snacks on fruit which is very healthy. kids that age would love to eat what their mates/friends are eating so your child might refuse to eat his homemade meals and get upset and insist on eating what his friends are eating. personally, I actually prefer the option of meals provided by the nursery as its super convenient for me (who has time to make fresh spaghetti Bolognese or chicken mushroom soup at 6am for a toddler's lunch). ![]() |
queensnow:Awww. Pele. You should have given him paracetamol before he was given the injection. Give him paracetamol at regular intervals. He will be fine. But wait o. You mean you believe in immunising babies? Don't tell me there is no AGBO available to prevent/treat measles, small pox, polio, pneumococcal, meningitis, mumps, rubella, whopping cough, tetanus, rotavirus . . . . |
goodfortun:Congrats dear. |
Just to add to the agbo debate. Personally, I'm strongly against administering any form of herbal treatment to a child. These herbs have been linked to the high infant mortality rate not just in nigeria but in Africa. Detailed/proven research have been carried out on this. There are so many research extracts on this issue available on google. http://journals.lww.com/jpgn/fulltext/2003/02000/death_due_to_use_of_traditional_medicines_in.28.aspx Doctors and nurses singing against the use of herbs for infants know exactly what they are talking about. |
Ammy5565:It's best you take him to a doctor (preferably) or a registered pharmacist. It will be wrong for me to name a particular antibiotic (based on what a doctor has previously prescribed for my child) because there are different infant antibiotics for different ailments. |
Throwback:You forgot to mention Benjamin Netanyahu. ![]() |
beyedew:Amen. God bless you too |
Benignasweety:No, it's not compulsory at all. There are cheaper, healthier and other stress free options. |
Ammy5565:How old is your son? He might need a course of mild antibiotics. If the boil still persists, I will suggest you take him to the hospital. Boil can be very painful even for adults. You can give him paracetamol pending when you see a doctor. |
J0hnTrevolt:Focus more on using disinfectant (original dettol) to rinse ALL his clothing including bedsheets and pillowcases after every wash. There are also antibacterial washing powder available that you can used to wash his clothing. Stop the use of his current body cream/lotion/oil. Stick to original Vaseline blue seal. |
emmasege:@ bolded. Exactly. This is the first time I am hearing of an Oba sending an olori packing. Even if he was no longer interested in the marriage or he wanted to marry more wives, she is supposed to remain in the palace with him. So much noise has been made on this his "divorce". It's sad to say that this Ooni is bringing a lot of embarrassment to the throne. He is not the first or last Oba to fall in and out of love with an olori. He should go and ask Aalafin how many wives he has - yet, they all remain in the palace and they are well taken care of. |
ofedegbe You should be more concerned about a potential visit from the police at your home address and subsequent arrest. It must be a very serious case that's currently under investigation for the bank to have taken this step. |
Thehomemaker Please share your hair regime. I like the way you styled your hair - especially the curls. Thanks. |
jazzyjazz:Lol @ skoin skoin If she's given you the go ahead, then trust her. Another option (which is really hard) is to stop breastfeeding till you are done with the drugs. What's the core ingredient of the tabs? Google it and see if it's safe to use in pregnancy. |
jazzyjazz:Did you tell the doctor you are breastfeeding? |

bookholla:1. Get lasinoh cream for your nippless. Any cream with lanolin as core ingredient will also work. 2. Introduce formula pending when your nippless heal and you can cope with the stress of expressing. Your baby is crying so much because he is hungry. Do not starve him. |
Why did he wait till long before crying out? The tumour is quite big and it's most likely at state 3 or 4. He should have rallied around friends and family and requested they began an online fund raising campaign on his behalf. |
Omron She might have destroyed the certificates and photo album or thrown them somewhere that's not traceable. If not, she would have returned them by now. For her to have gone to the extent of destroying your wife and baby's dresses, then she has destroyed those certificates. I will suggest you keep off totally from that your sister. She has got deep seated mental issues. Calling her won't make her return certificates that she has burnt to ashes. |
babythug:Hehehehehe. Not even close. ![]() My background/career has nothing to do with teaching. The closest I got to teaching in my life was when I was asked to give a career talk to secondary school students during NYSC as part of my CDS. (I actually saw this as a punishment from the zonal coordinator at the time as I was found out to be an absentee/arrangee corper) ![]() I have been given a lot of free books and free reading materials by midwives, etc right from pregnancy stage on all these practical/useful tips on parenthood and raising children. Some of them are literally 'big' textbooks which I do take time to read and implement. Luckily, I enjoy reading and I do not find them a bore. I hope someday this is something the Nigerian government or a very rich Nigerian will fund/support. It won't cost the government much to set up a Book Trust and hand out free books, etc to parents and children at regular intervals at least for the first three years of their life. As for the long post, it's just one of those questions from a very concerned mum that one cannot help but share as much tips as possible and offer support. |
Sansa143:to be honest, mine was the reverse. during pregnancy, i had zero interest. But as soon as i gave birth, oh la la .it is on record that barely a week after my C-Section, i was back in action. ![]() i think it is a phase that will pass. it must be all the stress that come with settling down to motherhood, a crying baby, etc. Ask your hubby to concentrate more on extended pre-intimacy. Plenty fingering, playing with your titss, fingering and so on to get you really in the mood. Then try a different sex position and not missionary. |

babythug:babythug, this one na PhD project oh ![]() i kinda agree with ifyalways approach. one thing for certain is that there will be a period of separation where we will both live in separate homes. this will give me time to think about what my next course of action. |
the child has been in care since 2012.. . . . . and we are in 2017. they should quietly accept their fate and wait till the child is 18 or work on their personal circumstances and prove to the courts that they are fit and proper parents. all this noise in the media is a waste of time. "the boy suffered a displaced fracture to the right femur, a metaphyseal fracture to the lower humerus, a right parietal fracture to the skull, a fracture of the first metatarsal bone and cut to the lip.'' look at the multiple injury the child sustained. how did his mum and aunt escape a prison sentence? ![]() why did the previous nominated guardians - the mayodele - return the boy back to the government? were they getting threats from the boy's family in Nigeria? maybe this is the reason why the judge has refused to appoint any other guardian suggested by the boy's parents. |
SURElee:It's possible the child was not taken to a hospital immediately the injury happened/was noticed. It's the doctors that would have called the police to report the injury. It's the same UK that I read of a case of alledged child neglect. one of the allegations against the parents was that the child wasn't registered with a dentist. Imagine that!! Those peeps don't play. From the doctors to the midwives to the health visitors who come to your house (whether you like it or not) for routine checks on the child right to the staff at the crèche. They are constantly watching the kids and parents like hawks. If anything doesn't sit well with them, they report it. |
Afolak:Gbam!! When I tell people on this site that UK authorities do not play at all when it comes to the welfare of a child, they think I'm joking. Those family courts don't play. They should even thank their stars they have small access to the child. As long as the child is resident in the UK - whether or not the child is a UK Citizen, the government literally owns that child and will go to any length for the welfare of that child. It will take the Grace of God for them to have full custody of that child before he's 18. Making noise in the press won't help them. Their only hope is to demonstrate that they are good parents and they've repented from their negligent ways and then approach the courts again to see if the judge will change his mind. |
coolniks:I think there is nothing wrong with your son. Kids that age can make so much progress in milestones within a month. A child can go from saying just one word at 20 months to saying 10 words at 23 months. My son is about 2-3 weeks older than yours and I know where he is speech wise now compared to where he was at 16 months. Do not compare your child with other children. I have come to realise that if you ask a parent how old their child is, if the child is actually 2years and 11 months old, they will tell you the child is '2years old'. The fact is that there is a massive difference in the speech and communication skills between a child aged 24 months (2years) and another aged 34 months (2 years and 10months). so when next you see that 'two years old' child telling her mum what she had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, ask well, the child is just shy of 3years. That said, I believe in trusting a mother's instincts and I do not think you did wrong by having him checked by a doctor - it only shows that you are a caring and proactive mum. Sometimes our instincts are right. Now, let's assume there is the slightest trace of autism - the doctors are not going to put him on any medication. All they can do is come up with different mental development exercises/techniques that you can use to help him improve his speech and communication skills, so you can as well imbibe some of some techniques and start now. All it takes is a lot of love, patience and commitment and you will see drastic improvement. First of all, you need to work on his diet. There are many articles online on foods that aid brain development in children. This is the time to replace ogi (if you are an ogi voltron ) with oats/oatmeal. This is the time to introduce varied vegetables and fruits in his diet. Prepare efo riro heavily garnished with assorted fish, small prawns, etc and give your child. Give him bread with peanut butter (you can actually make peanut butter yourself at home). Google - there are many articles from reputable websites discussing food that aid brain development in toddlers. Multivitamin syrup should not be used to replace feeding a toddler a rich/varied diet. Secondly, since he goes to a crèche/nursery/day-care/preschool, you need to find out from his teachers what activities they engage him in. At the end of the day when you pick him up, always ask what they've been up to during the day - this chat doesn't take up to 5 minutes. No matter how pressed I am for time, i always get a recap of my son's activities for the day. what he was fed with, how many wet/soiled diapers, how much sleep he has had during the day and what activities they engaged him in. You are paying for the services they render, so you have every right to demand daily answers to these questions. Regularly discuss areas of improvement you will want seen in your child -if its speech or his interaction with other kids, you let them know, so they can also focus on these areas. When you do see improvements, commend his teachers and let them know. The educational foundation of a child is very, very, very key and it encompasses not just speech, communication and writing but also social skills. This is not the stage to teach him how to write 1,2,and 3. This is the time for activities that will enhance his mental development. This is the period for them to engage in activities such as painting, drawing, recognising and naming animals, sorting items into boxes, messy play, singing, dancing, etc. if you are not happy with the activities he is engaged with at his crèche, then speak to them about it or move him to another crèche where things are done properly. Again Google and you will see examples of activities that you can engage your child with. You need to seriously reduce his TV time. Personally, I am not a fan of cartoons at this age. I feel nursery rhymes are more beneficial to kids because they are a lot easier for kids this age to remember, hence it develops/improves their memory. It also helps their speech. My son learned how to name body parts from the popular nursery rhymes 'head, shoulder, knees and toes''. You should also learn to sing along with him to nursery rhymes and amuse him. I sing, make funny faces and do a choreography for my son and he absolutely loves it. Sometimes he attempts to copy the choreography and he also attempts to sing along or finish the song with me. We do this so often that sometimes I get bored and want to stop but he insists I continue. Popular classics like 'row, row, row your boat''. ‘‘Old MacDonald has a farm'', if you are happy and you know'', etc are great with kids. You can get so many easy to follow rhymes from YouTube. As a mother, you need to communicate with your child in English and speak to him like an adult. For example, you want to take him to the bathroom. You tell him what you are about to do and while in the bathroom, you pick his sponge and say sponge about three times and then drop it. Do the same with soap. With time he would be able to recognise these simple items and say them. Regarding obeying instructions, you need to teach him. If you want him to get his ball, you tell him what you are about to do 'let go and pick your ball', then you hold his hand and you both walk together to pick up the ball and then hand it to him. As at 14months or so, my son could drop his diaper in the dustbin. I taught him by using the technique is have just explained. If I want him to get something for myself, for example my phone. I will tell him calmly 'mama wants to get her phone from the bedroom. I will hold his hand, we will walk to the bedroom together, I will pick up my phone , show him and repeat the word 'phone' about three times and then we walk back''. Now my son runs errands for me. He gets my charger, brings my phone from the bedroom, brings my handbag, drops rubbish in the dustbin, he gets his shoes, brings a fresh diaper when it’s time for diaper change, etc. Repetition and routine really works at this stage. My son can count 1-3 and how did I teach him? Anytime we both walk on steps, I will hold his hand for support and count 1-2-3. I did this so many times as a routine and now once he is on any stairs, he starts counting 1-2-3. Repeating words to your child works - especially simple words. For example, you want to give him an apple. You tell him ''apple'' and repeat the word like 4 times. Before you know it, he will say 'apple''. Start/stick with one syllable and two syllable words. As soon as his speech improves, then move to three syllable words. You also need to get books - basic pictorial books with few words but big pictures (popup books are a waste of money at this stage as he would most likely get them torn). Get books with pictures of animals with one/two syllable names like dog, chicken, donkey, etc. so you open the book, point to the animal, pronounce the name of the animal and then make funny sounds to amuse him. For example, if you say 'dog', then you make barking noises. If its chicken, point it to him in the book and you flap your arms like a chicken. Not only will all these amuse him but he will also be interested in all you are saying. With time, not only will he say the words after you but he will also mimic the animal sounds you are making. That a child is shy and quiet doesn't mean they should not be able to communicate when they are in their comfort zone. Saying 'baba' and 'mama' at this age is normal. My son only calls me ‘mama’ when he is upset. It is only within the last week he started calling me 'mum'. The 'not kissing' you part is normal. my son has his moments and sometimes he ignores me when I request for one. In fact now he tells me 'noooooooooooo' and shakes his head when I ask for a kiss when he is not in the mood. Sometimes he will just bring his forehead to my lips. However, when I least expect, he would hug me and splatter my face and lips with saliva on top of this kissing issue. I learnt recently that he knew what a 'hug' meant and how to give one. Apparently, at his nursery, if you upset another child (for example, by not sharing a toy or pushing a child, etc), you walk up to that child, they are instructed to say sorry (even though some of them can't pronounce the word sorry) and then you hug each other. In summary, communication and patience is key. Speak to him like you would speak to an adult. Even while you are doing tasks that relates to yourself, let him know what you are about to do. If you want to drink water, tell him 'let’s go to the kitchen. Mama wants to drink water''. Then you go to the kitchen, get the water, say the words 'cup' and 'water' a few times, drink and offer him some. If you want to go to the bathroom to pee and he wants to accompany you, you tell him what you are about to do, you pee, wash your hands and wash his hands too. Now my son always wants to flush the toilet on my behalf and even without prompting, he wants to wash his own hands too. Finally, kids this age thrive on praise. Anything he does well, no matter how small, you need to praise him, clap for him, give him a big smile and say 'good boy'. I do this all the time that now my son praises himself and says 'good boy' when he does something he feels is an achievement (eg. spilling water on the floor and then getting the mop). It could even be for rather cheeky things like pressing a random button on the remote control when I am engrossed with what i am watching - he then smiles and says 'good boy'. Be positive, pray and tell God what you want for your son, try not to shout or get angry or frustrated anytime you feel he should be doing something and he isn't. All will be well ![]() |
Very talented yet an underrated artist. |
spiceeamiee:TTC or not is no excuse for ANYONE to feed a 5 weeks old baby ice cream. It is totally wrong on all levels. It's a totally stupid thing to do. Not only is the baby exposed to cold/cough from the cold ice cream, the baby is also exposed to diarrhoea, dysentery, cholera..... name it!! You did absolutely nothing wrong by expressing your displeasure. She knows what she did is totally wrong hence the reason why she is making up all the stories. Say NO to any emotional blackmail from her. God forbid anything happens to your baby, does she know she will be labelled a witch and all sorts. Only go to her and apologise when your baby is out of the hospital and given the all clear by the doctor. When you apologise make it known to her that your baby fell ill and had to be hospitalised because of what she did. Do not even mince words about it. I do not understand why people feed other people's children without obtaining consent from the child's parent. I cannot offer anything to a child without obtaining consent from the parent. I expect the same from other parents and that's exactly what other parents do to me. A child can have allergies or all sorts that's only known to the parents. People really need to learn. |
