@helovesme, please what are your reviews on Punch and Judy toothpaste
I have never heard of this brand of toothpaste.

However, as long as it's fluoride free or it contains very, very minute quantity of fluoride, it should be fine. It should also clearly state the age it covers.

It is also important to use an age appropriate toothpaste as indicated on the label and not an adult toothpaste for a baby so as to avoid the risk of fluoride poisoning.

Personally, I use a fluoride free toothpaste.

Happy Sunday Mamas,

My DS of 5 months has sprouted a tooth... How do I clean it? Should I add toothpaste to his finger brush?
Please recommend one if am to use a baby toothpaste... Thanks...

cc: helovesme and other sabi mamas
At my end, dental health/hygiene for babies is taken very seriously. I was handed a free proper baby toothbrush (similar to adult toothbrush just with softer bristles and smaller brush head) and a baby toothpaste when my son was around two months old and instructed to use both of them from the very day he sprouts his first tooth. I was also told to register him with a dentist before he clocks 12 months.

These instructions I have adhered to and at 21 months, he's been having dental checkup with the dentist every 6 months.

So it's not too early to begin brushing your baby's teeth with toothpaste and a toothbrush. The benefits are enormous. There are popular brands suitable for babies from 0 month. All you need is a smear of toothpaste and you brush once daily.

Thank you ma. Am using avent. it is feeding bottle. Thank you
I used avent too and they are still in excellent condition including the teats and covers.

Take good care of them by washing them with a different sponge (do not use the same sponge for washing dishes to wash your baby's bottles) and sterilise them with hot water. Personally I'm not a fan of tablet or liquid sterilising fluid. I use electric steam steriliser.

Please mama in the house, I have a question that has been bothering me for a while.
How long should someone dispose a baby bottle to buy another one whether bpa free or not?
Cc , helovesme, and all other experienced mom
Except a bottle is damaged or the markings on it (to indicate ml or oz) has erased, there is no reason to dispose a bottle.

Bottles have been passed on from one baby to another and I have seen cases where a mum that's done with child bearing gives out her used bottles to a mother in need.

This is why it is important to invest in quality and genuine bottles right from the very first baby a woman has. On the long run, it's very economical.

well she said, whenever I notice any form of pain or weakness I should come in, she said any inflammation will make her dizzy and fuzzy. That since she is OK! It might be a phase
your baby is already 'fussy'.

the word 'fussy' is used to describe a baby that's otherwise healthy but is restless, not keen on food, crying and just generally cranky.

anyway, its your choice on whether or not to have her seen physically by a doctor or not.

do bear in mind that babies lose weight quickly. you will be surprised what weight she can lose in 3-5 days of reduced appetite.

I don't know what age your baby is. If she is less than 6 months old and a "paediatrician" suggests a "wait and see approach" for a baby that's not feeding normally, I would personally question such person's professional competence.

Just this morning my DD refused to suckle, I had to express to give her with bottle she didn't gree and went on to use cup and spoon and she managed to finish it and since today she can't latch on...She is hungry, she grabs the breast and bottle but can't suck it. She is healthy, no symptoms whatever.I spoke with a paed and she asked me to watch closely for symptoms.
How old is your baby?

Please do not do phone consultation. Take her to the doctor for physical examination and ask them to check for/rule out tonsillitis. If it's indeed tonsillitis, mild antibiotics prescribed by a doctor and used over 3-7 days should stop it.

If her tonsils are inflamed, she will find swallowing very painful and she will refuse to feed.

As a mum, it's hard to tell it her tonsils are swollen/inflamed as doctors have a way of checking the glands by the neck using their hands and they know what sore tonsils look like.

cc helovesme

@ how do you make your tombrown for your LO to drink?? mix with water and daz'all?
Zaynie had explained.

Mashed food is usually done using a fork or masher (stainless still or plastic). Mashed food is usually lumpy and best for babies from 8-9months.

Puréed food is done using a blender. It is smooth with absolutely no lumps and it's best for babies who are new to solids/have been weaned off exclusive milk and are transitioning to solids (from 6 months).

STOP BEING A SILENT PARTICIPANT DURING SEX.....

I wonder how some men cope with ladies who do not moan and scream during sex.
Let's be frank and sincere, is it a sin for a Christian to have a ringing tone while having sex to show how much they're enjoying their spousehuh

How can Oga be banging you and you will not be making any sounds at all?
Kilodehuh?

Sex that has no moans, is that one sex?
Some even referred to it as ringing tones.
There are some things that don't need to be taught and moaning during sex is one of them.

You don't need to be taught that you have to moan or voice out your ringing tone while being screwed.

But unfortunately, some ladies are so boring, so archaic and so religious that no matter how hard oga bang their wet spot and no matter how sweet the sex is, they will rather suppress the confession instead of letting out the irresistible moans.
Please try and moan while he is sexing you like mofedaku!!

Moaning makes his erection to last longer.
Moaning gives him a sense of confidence.
Moaning tells him that your body and soul are into the show.

Moaning makes him to hit you harder.
In fact, the louder the moans, the sweeter the wet spot to him.
Don't just lie there as a dead body.
Be part of the sex.

Moaning energises him.
Some ladies are so annoying that while they are being laid, they will be so absent minded to the extent that oga will be wondering whether he is sexing a human or a dead body.

Some will just spread their wet spot while the oga is sweating himself out hitting the wet spot.

That is so bad.
It kills the passion.
It makes the man feel he is forcing you to have sex with him.
It makes a sex that should last for 50mins to last for 15mins.
Please moan!
Baby moan out loud!
It does not matter what you are moaning about, just make sure you are screaming and making some romantic sounds.
It could be:
''arrrg, mmmm,
oh my God,
chai baby,
chimoooo,
baby injure me,
baby labam,
lasiem ike,
scatter it,
please baby don't cum now,
oh baby,
hit me hard,
do me harder,
it's all yours,
tear it,
baby wound me,
ouch, ouch!
You're bitting my nipples ooooooo!!
And sometimes, start crying out of excess sweetness of the sex.

Also remember to suck his ear lobes as you both are glued to each other.

If you have never sucked his inner ear lobes during sex, then you are missing out.
Wet his ears with your deep licking. It tickles him and sends him out of this world.
Make sure you don't miss out on the nipples ooooooo!!

You will even enjoy it.
Try it tonight.
And please don't forget to moan .
My Moaning can wake a dead person....

Good day mama's. Just this afternoon my Dd of 5 month squessed her body and cried in pain when she wanted to poo in fact she turned red. Her pop was very hard and dry and it has been like this for some days. She used to be exclusively breastfeed but I just introduced banana and avocado puree to her 2 weeks ago.
When I noticed the hardness of the pop I reduced the milk to one scoop but am surprised the hardness persisted. What do do? Please sabi mama's don't jump and pass. Cc:helovesm
Stop giving her banana.

Replace it with puréed vegetables (carrots, green peas, etc) + sweet potatoes.

Give her WARM water to drink as often as possible.

Please can I use the sponge in the first and second picture to bath a 3 week old. I'm currently using the one in the last pic but it's useless.
What really matters is how soft the sponge is on the skin.

What I do (no matter how soft the sponge is) is to soak the new sponge in boiling hot water with added dettol for some hours. This further helps in softening the sponge.

Personally, I would use No 2 for the body from 4 weeks and No 3 for the face.

At least once a month, for hygenie reasons, I soak all sponges in fairly hot water and dettol. I also ensure I replace them with new ones often.

But I will say 3 things though, your stupidity is ALARMING. Even with your powerpoint presentation of a post and your bolded numbering lol, it is still alarming! You deduced I worship white people from wherehuh You are beyond stupid!

Secondly, you can live and work in the moon for all I care. That doesn't mean your company ain't shitty! In my field you are not required to be on-site. A colleague of mine took mat-leave back to back in 2 consecutive years! You are NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL ANYONE YOU ARE PREGNANT UNTIL YOU WANT TO! If this makes you mad, well go look for another job! Don't take out your frustrations on me. And blah blah blah....yes I KNOW IT ALL, does that irk you too? Join the queue!

Finally, I have read it all here about the person that married me. I wonder why yall are so bothered on who or how he is coping? Maybe I'm some deadbeat ho that gets pregnant by random men? Who knows? tongue

Take a hike with your broken record gang. Typical Nigerian women who carry husband on their head, small fight...them go dey refer to spouse. Probably y'alls greatest achievement is having a man find yall worthy! I won't even respond to that becoz the nonsense line has become boring!
Kisses! kiss
grin grin grin

Not trying to take sides but disclosing pregnancy at work depends on many factors such as what country you reside.

The key factor is the terms of your employment contract.

For example, as a day rate contractor, you can choose not to disclose as you are not eligible for maternity pay. Such person is not obligated at all to disclose any pregnancy. I have seen contractors work right up to the day before their delivery and they are back in few days later. grin

As a permanent staff, if you are entitled to maternity pay, then there is a deadline to inform your employer which is usually around the second trimester. This is to give them time (as well as DWP) to process your maternity pay.

Maternity leave isn't compulsory. Some women chose not to have it.

I do agree that the rule of not taking both annual leave and maternity leave the same year is rather weird and unfair. Only an unscrupulous employer will come up with such. As an employee, you are entitled to annual leave (this is your basic employment right) and as a pregnant woman, you are also entitled to some time off (if you choose to do so) - this is also an employment right.

good morning and happy Easter to everyone.
please I need your help. my sin has been stooling since Thursday. though in different variations. initially it was thick and then it became watery and slimy almost after every meal. right now I can't remember the last time I changed a nappy without poo in it. and its giving me cause for concern. its almost like marathon.

he takes cereal and pap which I give him with spoon and I only use the feeding bottle for giving him water which is properly sterilized. initially I was adding tom brown to his pap but stopped when the stooling started. I took him to the hospital yesterday and the did test for him and the result was OK. no infection. I was given ors in sachet to give to him.

I'm just tired and I feel he is losing weight. is there anything I can do. this is someone who only poops in a day. the takes Sma pro, the foreign one as his milk. he is teething because I can see a tooth coming out already. could that be the culprit. he completed his rotavirus immunisation.

in short make every mama.
Apologies I'm just seeing this.

I hope you've taken him back to the hospital.

How old is your son?

Her weight tally with the pampers description.

Cc:
This is actually my favourite brand/type of diapers. kiss kiss

They actually started with a size 4 and I was pleased to see they had introduced a size 3 some few months ago which means it's suitable for younger babies.

I have been using it since my baby was around 8 months old and now he's almost 20months old.

Alphahandmaiden, there's no flaw with its design jare. grin The classic diapers can be a struggle to put on and take off (without staining everywhere with poo) especially when you've got an active toddler.

With both the classic/pant diaper, I always make sure I have a scented nappy bag at hand which I put the poo filled diaper into before disposing into the bin. If I fail to do this, the house is almost guaranteed to smell the next day thanks to the smell of poo from the dustbin.

When i and some teachers got to knw abt it, we adviced them to do it quietly after closing hours, they called me when they were abt to start my intentiön was to go there and pray for her. But some other teachers heard their noise and told them to report themselves to the school authority. I tried to beg for them to jux take the stuffs home becos everythn will fall bk on me at the end of the day as i am their class teacher. At the end of the day i took the issue to the principal, cos i knw most of the teachers there they like to spite or implicate others. The principal said they should have involved the school, my mind was still not settled cos i was scared that the proprietor will still hear abt it so i reported the case to the proprietor, and he asked to see the student, but i feel bad abt the whole issue
Aww. Don't feel too bad. Don't worry. This too shall pass. I think you should have allowed the principal handle things and not involve the proprietor.

The principal is there for a reason. Such a "petty" issue is within his job description and he would have handled things well.

What is the punishment for erring students? As long as it's not expulsion, then it's okay.

What is the punishment for teachers that have been found to encourage students to disobey the ban? As long as it's not dismissal, then you are fine.

Apologise to the principal/proprietor and also have the student apologise profusely as well. After all it was an ordinary "class birthday party", it's not like they were caught bonking each other lipsrsealed undecided

i hope you are not overdressing her. Nigeria is HOT. there is no need for multiple layers of clothing, multiple/thick shawls, thick body suits, wool hat, etc. heat encourages these skin irritations to thrive.

so you need to expose her skin and just have her where one layer of clothing especially when indoors. the same rule should apply outdoors too.

that said, what soap/lotion do you use on her skin? you might need to get something else.

some mums with similar experience on this thread have mentioned bathing the baby with a particular red leaf or so . cant remember the name. maybe someone can help.

There is a Chinese version being sold in Nigeria for N3200. Please, the original Sophie Vulli is made only in France with very safe BPA-free plastics and hand painted with food grade paints. That is what makes it safe for babies. The Chinese one is made with random plastic (most likely laced with heavy metals like cheap plastic usually is, even pure water sachet is not safe) and the paints are synthetic. So buy at your own discretion (there are other teething toys that are safe and it's not like your baby will miss your N12, 000 plus Vulli Sophie whilst you bawl and ask hotel staff "una don see wan giraffe lyke dat??"

I really don't like seeing when our people go and get the cheap version/made for Africa version, of something safe and pass it on to consumers, all for profit. Things like feeding bottles, teats, creams, mens and co, manage the Western version. Cheap gets expensive in the long run and so many issues happen with it, so many health concerns. See what's happening with Coca-Cola. And so many companies do the same, the refined imported fuel sold here that we breathe in daily and cough out is banned in EU (because it's poor quality). The safety levels applied To African products are non existent. No-one cares about Africa's health, we are expendable and resources are scarce.
I agree.

the recently published court case involving nafdac and Nigerian breweries is shocking.

who would have thought that coke, fanta, etc produced in nigeria under the coca-cola worldwide franchise will fail UK/EU food saftey standards to the extent that they were all confiscated.

teething shouldn't stop him from swallowing food.

if he experiences pain or discomfort in his throat whilst swallowing, then he won't be too keen on food. you can take him to the hospital to have him checked and rule out any infection like tonsillitis.

the doctor prescribed it.

I told him my baby is coughing. he has been coughing for four days now. Two days back he was running temperature at night and I gave him PCM.
so he prescribed coartem and this syrup. picture attached.

cc helovesme
the right thing is to test for malaria and not prescribe blindly. cough+temperature doesn't mean malaria. it can even be tonsillitis (talking from experience)

testing for malaria in a child can be distressing for both mother and baby as a vein has to be found and blood drawn (sometimes from the baby's feet). so maybe this is why the doctor chose not to refer you to a lab. that said, the right thing he should have done was to ask for you to do a test first.

his cold/temperature may just be a virus that would clear on its own with pcm, water, food and sleep.

i think its your decision to make really. you can choose to follow your doctor and give your baby the drug or do a blood test first. personally, i will not give my baby malaria drug without a confirmatory test result.

the second drug (that is, the picture you attached) is an antihistamine. in other words, that is piriton. ideally, it is prescribed for treating symptoms associated with allergy (runny nose, etc) but I do know some doctors prescribe it for common cold and it works. It is quite a 'strong' medication and I won't use it any longer than 'once a night', 3 days only as prescribed by the doctor.

try and avoid exposing your baby to mosquitoes by using mosquito net, insecticides like mortein and also a mosquito repellent suitable for her age.

for the cold, try not to expose her to dust, too much air conditioning or fan. you can get Mentholatum (there are some available for babies) and apply the balm on her chest, back, sides and feet.

also get original silverbird (eucalyptus oil) and dilute it with coconut oil (or any other oil). one drop of eucalypus oil for every 5 drops of coconut oil.

apply the diluted oil on her clothing/cot. please make sure the oil is properly diluted and the smell of the eucalyptus oil is not too strong or overpowering.

you do not know her name
and then you suddenly want to walk up to her to dash her diapers and baby food grin grin Nahhh! Bad idea !

she might end up feeling offended/really insulted.
give it to someone else or just lock up the items in storage till you find someone that you know or a via a third party that will truly appreciate the gesture.

rant over joor
its not always easy but with a supportive husband/partner, an understanding boss/employer and proper planning, you should be fine.

I am a 'morning person' which means i am known to wake up at 5am to wash the bathroom grin and do other 'noiseless' house chores like loading the washing machine, folding away clothes, etc. the only thing i do not do at odd hours is using the vacuum cleaner and that's just because i would hate to wake up my baby.

I do most of my shopping online and in large quantities. Not only is this very convenient as everything in delivered to my door but it also makes financial sense. for perishables like plantain, yam, etc, i buy them about once in two weeks. items like ata rodo, sweet peppers, beef, chicken, i buy in large quantities and freeze. the only time i go to the supermarket is when i want to buy fresh fish, fresh fruits/vegetables and fresh bread - 15mins max and i am out.

i do not plan for the next day is because after the day job, picking up my son (usually between 5.30pm and 6pm) and preparing the family's dinner, laziness cool and tiredness sets in and all I want to do is relax, bond with hubby/son, press phone, watch tv and sleep.

another reason why I do not plan for the next day the night before because there is very little reason to. I leave a small batch of spare clothes at my son's nursery, the nursery also provides nappies and wipes and all i have to do is provide one meal a day while they provide the rest (it takes me less than 15mins to peel, boil sweet potatoes and some vegetables and sprinkle mozzarella). for more exotic meals like pasta laced with vegetables, chicken, etc, it takes longer. I am blessed to have excellent and reliable childcare that's open 8am -6pm which makes my monday to friday so much easier. day job comes with reasonable flexible work hours/terms - 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm or log in remotely and work from home if there is really no reason to be in the office physically.
